A novel unstable external cavity for a broad area laser diode is presented. The cavity is based on a V-shaped setup that improves the slow axis beam quality by coupling the internal modes of a gain guided laser diode. The novelty here is the compact unstable resonator design without lenses in direction of the slow axis. For frequency stabilisation and to narrow the line width of the laser diode emission a diffraction grating in a Littrow configuration is used. With this setup up to 1 W of near diffraction limited light with a beam quality of M2 ? 1.3 and a line width of 1.7 MHz could be achieved. The external cavity laser was tunable over a range of 35 nm (FWHM) around the center wavelength of 976 nm.  相似文献

Resonator integrated optic gyro (RIOG), which employs narrow linewidth laser, is a high-accuracy inertial rotation sensor based on the Sagnac effect. The performance of RIOG is greatly affected by the frequency drift of narrow linewidth laser. A simple, effective method to measure the relative frequency drift of narrow linewidth laser based on delayed self-heterodyne technique is proposed in this paper. The measurement range and sensitivity can easily be satisfied by setting the length difference of the fiber segments between two interferometer arms. The relationship between the length difference and the frequency drift is derived based on the given principle of measuring the relative frequency drift. Then the laser frequency drift measuring setup is established and the experiment results demonstrate that a center frequency drift rate is less than 2 MHz/6.7 s under the room-temperature. Moreover, the measuring setup is applied to test the modulation coefficient of piezoelectric-transducer (PZT), and the modulation coefficient of 9.62 MHz/V is obtained, which satisfies the requirements of RIOG closed-loop operation.  相似文献

设计了一种新颖的快速可调谐激光器。这种激光器在恒定电流泵浦的有源微环组成的半导体环形激光器腔外部集成一个可调谐的无源微环反射器,其结构将决定激光器激射腔模的有源腔和无源可调谐部分分离,有助于提高调谐速度。与光栅结构的激光器相比,该激光器结构简单,具有强烈的选模功能,不需要相位匹配部分,输出波长不受调谐部分热效应的影响。基于多模速率方程建立了激光器的理论和数值模型,数值仿真结果表明该激光器能在选取的15个腔模范围内完成数字调谐,且具有40 mA的较低阈值电流和适中的边模抑制比。  相似文献

A novel monolithic integrated chaotic-optical transmitter structure is proposed in this paper. It consists of a distributed feedback laser, a semiconductor optical amplifier, a passive waveguide, and a photonic crystal waveguide. The length of external cavity is shorten to 1.125 mm by the slow light effect in photonic crystal waveguide. The performance of the integrated chaotic-optical transmitter is simulated. A series of dynamic states transiting from steady state, period state, and finally to chaotic laser is obtained. The size and power consumption of the chaotic-optical transmitter are both reduced by introduction of photonic crystal waveguide.  相似文献

In this paper, a narrow-band tunable external-cavity semiconductor laser with the Littman set-up is reported. The laser system consists of a semiconductor laser, a blazed grating and an external mirror. Its sideband suppression ratio over 20 dB was obtained. Conveniently tuning in wavelength region of 797.38 - 807.26 nm was achieved. The laser is operating in single frequency with narrow linewidth smaller than 0.06 nm. The output beam has good directional stability when tuned.  相似文献

A stable multiwavelength mode-locked semiconductor fiber ring laser incorporating a fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) filter was proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) serves as an optically controlled mode-locking element due to gain exhaustion caused by external injected optical pulses. Another SOA severs as a constant-gain medium. A fiber MZI filter with a temperature control is incorporated into the fiber ring cavity to acquire a stable and tunable multiwavelength oscillation. Twelve wavelengths are synchronously mode-locked at 10 GHz, pulse width of mode-locked pulse are about 30 ps. Proposed multiwavelength mode-locked semiconductor fiber ring laser has some distinct advantages, such as simple and compact structure, easy integration, convenient tuning, good stability, potential high repetition rate operating, which has potential application in the future WDM communication system.  相似文献

提出一种结合注入锁定技术的主动滤波放大方法,将光梳直接注入锁定至光栅外腔半导体激光器,产生窄线宽激光光源,该光源可以用于锶原子光钟二级冷却.实验中,将中心波长为689 nm,带宽为10 nm的光梳种子光源注入689 nm光栅式外腔半导体激光器,通过半导体增益光谱与半导体光栅外腔,从飞秒光梳的多个纵模梳齿中挑选出一个纵模模式来进行增益放大,再通过模式竞争,实现单纵模连续光输出;同时,光梳的重复频率锁定在线宽为赫兹量级的698 nm超稳激光光源上,因此,注入锁定后输出的窄线宽激光也继承了超稳激光光源的光谱特性.利用得到的输出功率为12 mW的689 nm窄线宽激光光源实现了88Sr原子光钟的二级冷却过程,最终获得温度为3μK,原子数约为5×10~6的冷原子团.该方法可拓展至原子光钟其他光源的获得,从而实现原子光钟的集成化和小型化.  相似文献

We present two external-cavity diode lasers that utilize a volume holographic grating as the frequency selective feedback element. By using the grating at normal incidence, it is possible to design simple and compact external-cavity diode lasers that have sufficient tunability for molecular spectroscopy. The first design utilizes a long-cavity designed for narrow linewidth and good long-term stability. The laser operates near 635 nm and it has a PZT-controlled tuning range of 28 GHz and a 1-s linewidth of 900 kHz. The second design utilizes a grating attached very close to the laser diode, making the laser compact, robust and easy to operate. The short external-cavity laser operates near 658 nm and it has a linewidth of 30 MHz. Continuous and mode-hop free tuning range of 145 GHz can be obtained by using a simple temperature tuning method.  相似文献

We have demonstrated a simple ring cavity tunable multiwavelength Brillouin/Erbium fiber laser (MWBEFL), in which 70 m highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (HNL-PCF) is used as the Brillouin gain medium. The fiber laser utilizes recycling mechanism to enhance stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). The configuration that consists of only 3 optical components is easy to be integrated and improves the practicality. At the maximum 1480 nm pump power of 110 mW and the Brillouin pump power of 3 dBm, 10 stable output channels with more than 10 dB optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) and 0.078 nm channel spacing could achieve 10 nm tuning ranges.  相似文献

We demonstrate, for what is the first time to our knowledge, long-term stable, continuously tunable operation of a doubly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by a single-stripe diode laser without the use of an external semiconductor amplifier. The OPO is based on periodically poled lithium niobate and is pumped by a 150-mW distributed Bragg grating diode laser. 18-mW total output power is generated at 1.3- and 2.3-mum wavelengths. A cavity-length servo system allows continuous signal tuning of 17 GHz and idler tuning of 10 GHz, limited only by the range of a piezoelectric cavity mirror mount. OPO tuning is demonstrated from 1.1 to 1.4 mum and from 2.2 to 3.7 mum.  相似文献

We present an experimental study of tuning characteristics and wavelength stability of a 1490 nm doped fiber external cavity laser. The standing wave in the erbium-doped fiber in an external-cavity laser causes spatial hole burning and absorption modulation and forms a dynamic grating. The dynamic grating can effectively suppress side modes and eliminate wavelength fluctuations in the laser. The operating wavelength of this hybrid laser is shown for the first time to our knowledge to be smoothly tunable by changing the semiconductor laser drive current or temperature.  相似文献

We report on a widely tunable, pulsed laser system with narrow spectral linewidth based on a continuous wave ytterbium fiber oscillator, a pulse shaper and a power amplifier stage. The system is tunable from 1055 nm to 1085 nm and provides a maximum pulse energy of 155 μJ with a pulse duration of 1-5 μs. The linewidth is less than 2.7 GHz over the whole tuning range.  相似文献

Wavelength tuning characteristics of a Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser with an external short cavity are analyzed, in which the oscillation wavelength can be changed by slightly altering the external cavity length. Analysis is based on rate equations for an optical power and carrier density. It is shown that the wavelength tuning range is dominated by a change of carrier density through the effect of carrier-induced refractive index change in the active layer of a laser diode. This depends on effective coupling coefficients of the optical field iteratively reflected back to the laser diode by the external mirror, and on reflection coefficients of an anti-reflection coated laser facet and the external mirror which compose the external cavity. The effective coupling coefficient is also derived using the waveguide theory and Kirchhoff ’s theory. Finally, an unstable condition which may limit a stable wavelength tuning range is shown by results of a linear stability analysis of rate equations.  相似文献

We describe a tunable double-clad Yb-doped fiber laser based on a long period fiber grating mechanically induced in a section of single mode holey fiber inserted into the laser cavity. The mechanically induced long period holey fiber grating acts as a wavelength-selective fiber filter whose central wavelength, linewidth, and strength can be tuned by changing the period, the length of the grating, and the applied pressure. The fiber laser gives a ∼12.6 nm tuning range, from ∼1079:4–1092nm, with slope efficiencies of 18.7–26.3% at this wavelength range, with respect to the launched pump power.  相似文献

A widely tunable (5-12.5 μm) continuous-wave (cw) mid-infrared (mid-IR) laser spectrometer based on difference frequency generation (DFG) by mixing an external-cavity diode laser (ECDL) with a Ti:Sapphire laser in an AgGaS2 crystal is described. The wide tunability was achieved by tuning laser wavelength associated with crystal angle tuning under type II phase matching condition. A maximum output power of about 66 nW was obtained at 8.06 μm. High resolution spectrum of methane (CH4) over more than 10 cm−1 near 7.7 μm has been recorded to evaluate the performance of the developed DFG-based mid-IR laser spectrometer.  相似文献

We demonstrate a tuneable laser operating in the 1-1.1 μm wavelength region with a tuning range of 43 nm (FWHM), an output power of 19 mW and coherence length of 14 mm. The source is based on a master laser consisting of a cavity tuned ring configuration with a fibre Fabry-Perot filter used as a tuning element and a semiconductor amplifier as gain medium. The output of the master laser is subsequently power boosted using an Ytterbium doped fibre amplifier (YDFA). In addition to providing a power boost, we demonstrate that by tailoring the gain spectrum of the YDFA it is possible to increase the FWHM scanning range by 7 nm compared to that of the master laser.  相似文献

A continuously tunable erbium-doped fibre laser (TEDFL) based on tunable fibre Bragger grating (TFBG) and a three-port optical circulator (OC) is proposed and demonstrated. The OC acts as a 100%-reflective mirror. A strain-induced uniform fibre Bragger grating (FBG) which functions as a partial-reflecting mirror is implemented in the linear cavity. By applying axial strain onto the TFBG, a continuously tunable lazing output can be realized. The wavelength tuning range covers approximately 7.00nm in C band (from 1543.6161 to 1550.3307nm). The side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) is better than 50 dB, and the 3 dB bandwidth of the laser is less than 0.01 nm. Moreover, an array waveguide grating (AWG) is inserted into the cavity for wavelength preselecting, and a 50 km transmission experiment was performed using our TEDFL at a 10 Gb/s modulation rate.  相似文献
