Recent progress in the development of European standards has allowed the in situ testing of roadside noise barriers. CEN/TS 1793-5 describes a test method using maximum length sequences (MLS) for the characterisation of airborne sound insulation. However, many barriers are tested according to a laboratory standard, EN 1793-2, based on measurements carried out in reverberant chambers and in the case of timber barriers with a relatively low airborne sound insulation it is not clear to what extent the results of the two tests compare. The paper describes the results of tests carried out using both methods. Six samples of timber barrier were compared including single-leaf and double-leaf constructions and single-leaf constructions with an absorptive core. Very good agreement was found especially when account was taken of the valid frequency range in each test method. The results open up the possibility of routinely evaluating the performance of timber barriers at the roadside where build quality can be variable and there are concerns that the acoustic performance may not match that obtained under laboratory test conditions where typically the barrier is more carefully constructed.  相似文献

This work presents sound insulation and sound reflection measurements conducted over sonic crystal noise barriers according to the European standards EN 1793-2, EN 1793-5 and EN 1793-6. In most of the reference literature, sound insulation and reflection properties of sonic crystals are measured or a diffuse sound field or in a direct sound field including the top and side edge diffraction effects together with the transmitted (or reflected) components. The aim of this work is to perform free-field measurements over a real-sized sample in order to window out all diffraction components and to verify the points of strength and weakness of the application of standardised measurements to sonic crystals. Diffuse field measurements in laboratory are also done for comparison purposes. Since the target frequency range for traffic noise spectrum is centred at around 1000 Hz, a finite element based parametric investigation is performed to design unit cells capable of generating band gaps in the one-third octave bands ranging from 800 Hz to 1250 Hz. Then, 3 × 3 m sonic crystal noise barriers are installed in the Laboratory of the University of Bologna and sound insulation and sound reflection measurements are performed according to the mentioned active standards for normal incidence. Sound insulation is measured for diffuse incidence too. The two methods give different results. The method more directly comparable to calculations is the free-field one. However, if on the one hand the application of a time window allows to compute the transmitted or reflected component only, on the other hand the time window itself limits the maximum width of the sample for which all reflections of the n-th order having a significant spectral content are included, and thus results critical in the analysis of this kind of noise barriers. Nevertheless, the standardised measurements allow a direct comparison between the performance of sonic crystals and common noise barriers.  相似文献

Two numerical models are presented for the prediction of sound leakage through openings in thin hard barriers. The first numerical method is based on a simple procedure of numerical integration that can be implemented straightforwardly. This model is a more general approach, suitable for barriers with arbitrary gaps. The second model is a new method that permits prediction of sound leakage due to the presence of horizontal gaps in a long barrier. In the new method, effective barriers of appropriate heights represent the edges of the horizontal gaps. The sound diffracted by each effective barrier is calculated by a closed-form analytic expression. The total sound-pressure level is determined from a sum of these diffracted fields. Hence, the new method is fast, simple, and intuitive, allowing the leakage to be assessed accurately. The validity of these two numerical models is confirmed by precise experimental measurements.  相似文献

Outdoor sound propagation from road traffic is modelled by solving a boundary integral equation formulation of the wave equation using boundary element techniques in two dimensions. In the first model, the source representing a traffic stream can be considered as a coherent line source of sound. The results can then be transformed to derive a pseudo-three dimensional solution to the problem. In the second model the line source is incoherent. For receivers near the ground, the second model predicted significantly higher values of ground attenuation than the first. The first model generally produced better agreement with ground attenuation results obtained using the U.K. traffic noise prediction model. For conditions when a noise barrier was present and the ground was absorbent, the incoherent line source model generally predicted significantly higher values of attenuation than those from the barrier and ground attenuation calculated separately. Over a range of receiver positions and barrier heights a similar, but less marked effect was observed when the coherent line source model was used. On dual carriageway roads, it is possible to incorporate barriers on the central reservation as a noise control measure. These are “median” noise barriers. The incoherent line source model is used to assess the performance of median barriers in reducing noise when installed alone and also with associated roadside barriers. A sound absorbent median noise barrier 1m in height produced consistent values of insertion loss of between 1 and 2dB over the range of receiver positions and ground conditions considered. When the median barrier was used in conjunction with a roadside barrier it produced a consistent improvement in insertion loss of between 1 and 2 dB over the range of conditions considered.  相似文献

The absorption coefficient of acoustic materials can be measured either in the frequency or the time domain. At normal incidence, a sample of the material is fitted within an impedance tube and the absorption coefficient is calculated in the frequency domain from the measurement of the transfer function between two microphones [ISO 10534-2. Acoustics - determination of sound absorption coefficient and impedance in impedance tubes - Part 2: transfer function method. ISO, Geneva, Switzerland; 1996]. When the acoustic material must be characterized at oblique incidence or in situ (noise barriers, for instance) the absorption coefficient is calculated from measurements of the loudspeaker-microphone impulse response in the time domain, both in free field and in front of the sample [CEN/TS 1793-5. Road traffic noise reduction devices - test method for determining the acoustic performance - Part 5: intrinsic characteristics - in situ values of sound reflection and airborne sound insulation. CEN, Brussels, Belgium; 2003, ISO 13472-1. Acoustic measurement of sound absorption properties of road surfaces in situ - Part I: extended surface method. ISO, Geneva, Switzerland; 2002]. Since the absorption is an intrinsic property of the acoustic material, its measurement in either domain must provide the same result. However, this has not been formally demonstrated yet. The aim of this paper is to carry out a comparison between the absorption coefficient predicted by the impedance model of a Microperforated Insertion Unit and the absorption coefficient predicted from a simulated reflection trace taken into account the finite length of the time window.  相似文献

Nine-hundred-and-seventeen residents in a sample of attached houses constructed since 1970 were interviewed in the course of a national survey dealing with nuisance occasioned by noise from neighbours. The airborne sound insulation of the party walls, measured prior to occupation, ranged from zero to 120 dB AAD. Two-thirds of the respondents heard noise from their neighbours and even at performance levels meeting or exceeding the minimum requirements of the Building Regulations nearly 50% did so. Of the total sample, some 18% were seriously bothered by neighbours' noise. Highly significant relationships were found between physical performance rated in dB AAD (Aggregate Adverse Deviation) and a variety of subjective responses. These include reports of hearing neighbours' noise, of being bothered by it, hearing neighbours' conversation, and, in particular, the direct rating of sound insulation quality by respondents, which last appears to provide the most reliable and consistent indication of the likelihood of experiencing nuisance from neighbours' noise. These results provide, for the first time, empirical validation of the U.K. performance rating procedure. In addition, the survey findings emphasize the importance of impact noises, not included in the standardized performance measurements, but which contribute substantially to nuisance, particularly between houses where airborne sound insulation is comparatively good. Other findings indicate that occupants were very satisfied with their general environment and only slightly less so with their homes. Poor sound insulation was a prominent criticism of the dwellings, being ranked third among spontaneous adverse comments and first in a ranking of nine commonly encountered building defects. These results indicate the importance of sound insulation to occupants of recently built houses, placing this aspect of design and construction within a wider context. The overall results of the survey provide a practical guide to estimating the consequences, in terms of occupants' attitudes to noise from neighbours, of raising or lowering standards of sound insulation performance between houses.  相似文献

Road barrier diffracting caps have shown a renewed interest for several years since they give the opportunity of increasing the barrier efficiency without changing its overall height. First investigations on the efficiency of road barrier caps calculated with a boundary element method (BEM) have shown that the efficiency obtained with coherent line sources is underestimated compared to that with incoherent line sources, more representative of road traffic noise. The present work deals with the characterisation of the real performance of a T-shaped absorbing cap with road traffic noise conditions. Two different approaches are compared: on one hand calculations with the help of a BEM program able to achieve 2D and 2D simulations are made; on the other hand outdoor measurements on a test-wall using a maximum length sequence technique are carried out. The goal in the two approaches is to isolate the top edge diffracted sound field in order to determine an extrinsic value of octave band efficiency of the cap for many source-receiver pairs. These results integrated in a ray tracing prediction method enable the integration of air absorption along each ray path and give the real efficiency of such a device in the case of complex and realistic configurations for barriers of finite length.  相似文献

The laboratory test chamber described in this paper was designed to provide a test facility for the measurement of airborne sound insulation of party walls and their associated flanking construction. Initially developed as a research tool to overcome the need to carry out field measurements on new dwelling types, the results obtained in the chamber were found to be in close agreement with the results of field measurements in dwellings with similar constructional detailing. It is concluded that a chamber of this type provides a simple and economic means of assessing in the laboratory the airborne sound insulation of dwellings.  相似文献

The façade of a room is usually composed of different construction elements, one of which is the window. This fulfils both an aesthetic function and closes the wall opening. In order to improve thermal behaviour and control solar radiation, the window is fitted with different protection features, such as the shutter. In climate zones with many hours of sunlight, windows in residential buildings commonly incorporate a rolling shutter. Traffic noise and higher standards of energy saving, comfort, durability and sustainability in buildings means that windows now have to comply with stricter requirements, including their sound insulation from airborne noise. This work contains a summary of studies carried out on the sound insulation from airborne noise in several types of windows (double side-hung casement and double horizontal sliding sash) with built-on shutter and prefabricated box. For each type of window, an analysis was made of the effects of the interior finishings in the shutter box, the shutter position (whether fully retracted or extended) and the weighted sound reduction index of windows for traffic noise in accordance with EN ISO 717-1.  相似文献

Sound propagation through the gap produced by two parallel vertical barriers with overlapped ends is formulated for traffic noise sources. The analysis identifies both source and receiver regions according to the mechanisms that influence noise propagation in the vicinity of an overlap gap. A method to account for the contributions from the various source regions for a given receiver location is described. The derived method can be implemented using various equations for sound propagation. The results of using equations approved by the United States Federal Highway Administration for traffic noise propagation are given. Uncalibrated predictions are compared with field measurements for up to 30 receiver positions from each of four overlap gaps. The relative importance of contributions from reflected rays to the noise levels at receiver positions is given. The analysis confirms the initial hypothesis that a commonly used strategy of overlapping barriers by an amount equal to two or three times the overlap width is useful for controlling line-of-sight propagation but ignores the substantial effect of reflections.  相似文献

The present technique for measuring the airborne sound insulation of walls and floors, involving measurements in 16 one-third octave bands, is tedious and expensive. The method provides more information than is needed for most purposes, and is more suited to research.Several investigators have proposed the measurement of the overall A-weighted sound level difference using a sound level meter, with a broad band source of white or pink noise. Consistent results have been obtained but their relation to accepted rating methods such as STC is rather empirical. The reference curves used for airborne sound insulation, i.e. STC and HPGW are very similar to the A weighting curve, and if the latter were adopted as the reference curve, there would be a firm theoretical basis for measurement with a sound level meter. Measurement of the difference between the linear sound level of a source of white noise, and the A weighted received level, would in practice be a test of the conformity to the A weighting curve of the transmission loss curve of the partition. Adverse deviations would show as a higher received level. Favourable deviations would have little effect.A study of practical walls and floors, taken from National Building Studies Research Paper 33, showed that there was good correlation between the sound level difference calculated as if it had been measured directly with a sound level meter, and a proposed rating method similar to ISO R717, but using the A weighting curve as the reference curve. Ninety-six per cent of results were within ±1 dB.The practical difficulties of achieving a reasonably flat transmitted spectrum, and of correcting for room absorption will reduce this precision, but bearing in mind the practical success of other short tests, the proposed test should provide a rapid test which is adequate for approval purposes.  相似文献

If variations and uncertainty in building acoustic measurements can be controlled, construction costs can potentially be reduced since the building will not have to be acoustically over-designed. Field measurements of impact and airborne sound insulation were carried out for an industrially prefabricated cross-laminated timber (CLT) system of plate elements. The results from 18 rooms, forming three groups with respect to size, were compared to a similar study dealing with a prefabricated Volume Based Building (VBB) system. Large variations were found at frequencies below 100 Hz which is crucial for the low frequency adaptation terms connected to the weighted sound insulation indices. The measurement uncertainty was investigated by analysing the repeatability, measurement direction and the time dependence of the sound source. The variations due to the measurement procedure were found to be small compared to the total variations. It was also indicated that the variations in sound insulation are smaller with a prefabricated system compared to on-site production, since less work is required at the building site.  相似文献

Procedures for the field measurement of airborne sound insulation between rooms with diffuse fields are described in International Standard ISO 140-4. However, many dwellings contain rooms with volumes less than 50 m3, where low frequency measurements are less reliable; hence there is a need for a measurement procedure to improve the reliability of field measurements in rooms with non-diffuse fields. Procedures are proposed for sound pressure level and reverberation time measurements for the 50, 63 and 80 Hz third octave bands. The sound pressure level measurement combines corner microphone positions with positions in the central region of each room. This provides a good estimate of the room average sound pressure level with significantly improved repeatability.  相似文献

When sound measurements are made in flow ducts one has to insure that the signal-to-noise ratio of the sound signal to the flow noise, which is produced by the turbulent flow at the microphone, is sufficiently high. To accomplish this, knowledge of the flow noise level under the specific given flow conditions is required. In this paper two procedures for determining the flow noise level are described. For the first method, the mean flow velocity and the turbulence level have to be known to estimate the flow noise level as a function of duct diameter and frequency. For the second method knowledge of only the mean flow velocity is required. The procedure involves two measurements: one with a microphone fitted with a conventional nose cone and one with a microphone fitted with a slit-tube. The slit-tube is a special device for reducing the flow noise level. Finally, guidelines are given for sound measurements in the presence of flow and for the use of a microphone with a slit-tube under unusual temperature conditions or in gases other than air.  相似文献

The transmission in graphene superlattices with adjustable barrier height is investigated using transfer-matrix method. It is found that one could control the angular range of transmission by changing the ratio of incidence energy and barrier height. The transmission as a function of incidence energy has more than one gaps, due to the appearance of evanescent waves in different barriers. Accordingly, more than one conductivity minimums are induced. The transmission gaps could be controlled by adjusting the incidence angle, the barrier height, and the barrier number, which gives the possibility to construct an energy-dependent wavevector filter.  相似文献

The ‘A’ weighting curve, drawn from the 56 dB datum, forms a very good compromise between the British House Party Wall Grade curve, and the International Standard Organisation R 717 reference curve. Since the ‘A’ weighting curve is already internationally standardised for noise measurements, its adoption as a reference curve for sound insulation measurements would make for a unification and rationalisation of acoustic criteria. The adoption of the ‘A’ weighting curve would also provide a theoretical basis for a quick test for sound transmission using a sound level meter to measure the overall levels on each side of a wall, of a white noise source. When the received level is measured on the ‘A’ weighting network, any serious adverse deviation of the partition below the reference curve would be shown by the higher overall received level.Suggestions for the revision of ISO R 717 to incorporate this proposal are included.Good correlation is shown between the sound level difference, as measured by a meter, and the revised airborne sound insulation index measured by the ISO R 140 procedure, on one sample test.  相似文献

This paper is based on the results of a series of measurements of the performance of full-scale noise barriers of various heights, carried out under a range of wind conditions. It relates to the effects of a long barrier in reducing the noise from localized sources, such as the peaks of traffic noise.  相似文献

Vertical Greenery Systems (VGS) are promising contemporary Green Infrastructure which contribute to the provision of several ecosystem services both at building and urban scales. Among others, the building acoustic insulation and the urban noise reduction could be considered. Traditionally vegetation has been used to acoustically insulate urban areas, especially from the traffic noise. Now, with the introduction of vegetation in buildings, through the VGS, it is necessary to provide experimental data on its operation as acoustic insulation tool in the built environment. In this study the acoustic insulation capacity of two VGS was conducted through in situ measurements according to the UNE-EN ISO 140-5 standard. From the results, it was observed that a thin layer of vegetation (20–30 cm) was able to provide an increase in the sound insulation of 1 dB for traffic noise (in both cases, Green Wall and Green Facade), and an insulation increase between 2 dB (Green Wall) and 3 dB (Green Facade) for a pink noise. In addition to the vegetation contribution to sound insulation, the influence of other factors such as the mass factor (thickness, density and composition of the substrate layer) and type of modular unit of cultivation, the impenetrability (sealing joints between modules) and structural insulation (support structure) must be taken into account for further studies.

Although a considerable amount of research has been undertaken regarding the performance of T-profile noise barriers, the information available to the practicing highway engineer is confusing. For example, there is a widespread belief that the performance of a top edge, expressed as an insertion loss relative to that of the simple barrier on which it is mounted, is constant, irrespective of the relative locations of the source, barrier and receiver. In order to clarify the situation an investigation has been undertaken, using computer modelling, of the performance afforded by highway noise barriers with T-profile tops with different acoustic treatments. The relative insertion loss was found to increase systematically with increasing top width. Although the relative insertion loss afforded by a reflective T-top is small, significant attenuation can be obtained with an absorptive top. Examination of the effect on performance of the locations of source and receiver relative to that of the noise barrier indicated that, for source and receiver locations typical of those experienced for highway noise barriers, the relative insertion loss for a given width of T-top was a function of (a) the path difference between sound travelling to the receiver via the barrier top and direct sound from the source to the receiver and (b) the barrier height. Plots of relative insertion loss versus the path difference, normalised with respect to barrier heights, for a range of T-top widths and absorbent treatment, resulted in a collapse of data around well defined trend lines which offer the potential of being developed into a prediction method.  相似文献
