We report on efficient THz pulse generation via optical rectification with femtosecond laser pulses focused to a line by a cylindrical lens. This configuration provides phase-matched conditions in the superluminal regime. 35 pJ THz pulses have been generated with this technique in a stoichiometric LiNbO3 crystal pumped by 2 μJ femtosecond laser pulses at room temperature. An unusual superquadratic rise of the THz pulse energy with the laser pulse energy has been observed at high laser energies. This extraordinary energy dependence of the THz generation efficiency is explained by self-focusing of the laser beam in the crystal. Z-scan measurements and comparison of the THz pulse spectra created with laser pulses having different energies confirm this interpretation.  相似文献

A survey on the mechanisms of powerful terahertz (THz) radiation from laser plasmas is presented.Firstly,an analytical model is described,showing that a transverse net current formed in a plasma can be converted into THz radiations at the plasma oscillation frequency.This theory is applied to explain THz generation in a gas driven by two-color laser pulses.It is also applied to THz generation in a tenuous plasma driven by a chirped laser pulse,a few-cycle laser pulse,a DC/AC bias electric field.These are well verified by particle-in-cell simulations,demonstrating that THz radiations produced in these approaches are nearly single-cycles and linear polarized.In the chirped laser scheme and the few-cycle laser scheme,THz radiations with the peak field strength of tens of MV/cm and the peak power of gigawatt can be achieved with the incident laser intensity less than 10 17 W/cm 2.  相似文献

Femtosecond far-infrared radiation pulses in the THz spectral range were observed as a consequence of the energy modulation of 1.7 GeV electrons by femtosecond laser pulses in the BESSY storage ring in order to generate femtosecond x-ray pulses ("femtoslicing"). In addition to being crucial for diagnostics of the laser-electron interaction, the THz radiation itself is useful for experiments where intense ultrashort THz pulses of well-defined temporal and spectral characteristics are required.  相似文献

基于超短激光脉冲与气体作用通过光场离化电流产生太赫兹(THz)辐射的模型, 研究了用双色激光脉冲的方法产生强THz辐射的优化参数条件. 数值计算表明, 导致THz辐射产生的离化电流主要是由一阶电离过程产生的, 高阶离化对该电流产生的贡献很小. 通过调节基频光与倍频光的配比、相位差都能增大离化电流, 从而可以提高THz辐射振幅. 将激光波长拓展到中红外波段, 也有利于提高离化电流. 此外,改变作用气体的种类也能改变离化电流. 在激光和密度参数相等的情况下, 在氦气中可以产生高于氮气中2倍左右的离化电流.  相似文献

The features of the local nondestructive modifications of the bulk fused silica are experimentally studied. A method for the measurement of the refractive index in a transparent sample irradiated with femtosecond laser pulses is developed. The accuracy of the refractive-index measurements achieves about 10?5, and a spatial resolution is several microns. The quantitative data on the dynamics of the permanent modification of glass as a function of the radiation energy are obtained for the first time. The spatial localization of the modified area that is predominantly determined by the laser-beam divergence is analyzed. The femtosecond interferometry is used to investigate the laser-pulse propagation in amorphous silica.  相似文献

强太赫兹源是太赫兹科学技术发展的关键,其中大能量强场太赫兹脉冲源在超快物态调控、新型电子加速器等领域具有重要的应用前景.超快超强激光与等离子体相互作用是近年来发展起来的一种新型的强场太赫兹辐射产生途径.本文报道了利用超强飞秒激光脉冲与金属薄膜靶作用产生太赫兹辐射的实验结果,研究了激光能量和离焦量对靶后太赫兹辐射能量的影响,并通过监测激光背向散射光谱,定性揭示了其变化规律与不同光强下的电子加热机制的相关性.实验表征了太赫兹辐射的频谱、偏振及聚焦光斑情况.测量结果表明,实验产生了脉冲能量达458μJ、聚焦场强高达GV/m量级的超宽带太赫兹辐射,为开展极端太赫兹脉冲与物质相互作用研究提供了一种新的强场太赫兹光源.  相似文献

A new terahertz (THz) source in air based on the bifilamentation of femtosecond laser pulses is reported. This THz radiation is 1 order of magnitude more intense than the transition-Cherenkov THz emission from femtosecond laser filaments reported recently and shows different angular and polarization properties. We attribute it to the emission from a bimodal transmission line created by two plasma filaments.  相似文献

Experimental results on the generation of terahertz (THz) electromagnetic radiation under ionization of air by femtosecond pulses at fundamental and second-harmonic frequencies of a Ti-sapphire laser are presented. The mean power of the generated THz radiation as a function of the time delay between two pulses of different frequencies is found to be quasi-periodical. Theoretically, we show that efficient generation of THz radiation is governed by the inertial part of the nonlinear response of the medium, which is determined by the dynamics of population of highly excited states with subsequent emission of electrons.  相似文献

研究了双色激光场激发空气成丝产生太赫兹辐射频谱的变化规律.实验观察到随驱动光功率和光丝长度增加,太赫兹光谱主要发生红移的现象.分析表明,由于等离子体密度的增加,太赫兹辐射的趋肤深度减小,等离子体吸收主导了红移的发生.在光丝足够短的条件下,趋肤深度远大于光丝长度,从而产生等离子体振荡主导的太赫兹辐射光谱蓝移.本研究为超快宽带太赫兹辐射的频谱调控提供了新思路.  相似文献

The continued development of femtosecond mid-infrared (IR) sources with ultrabroad spectral width is critical for probing and controlling complex molecular structural dynamics on an ultrafast timescale. We report on a sub-20 fs, coherent mid-IR source with an octave-spanning spectral bandwidth (>2000 cm(-1)) tunable from 2-8 micrometers (37.5-150 THz), with energy >0.4 μJ/pulse at 1 kHz. The mid-IR pulses are generated by four-wave mixing during the filamentation of intense 800 nm and 400 nm pulses in various gas media. Spectral tunability is achieved by the choice of gas, pressure and input 800 nm pulse energy.  相似文献

Femtosecond laser filamentation is a method of generating terahertz, which has wide application in terahertz subwavelength resolution imaging. In this paper, the plasma filament formed by femtosecond laser focusing was terminated with an alumina ceramics at different positions and the influence of the cutting off position of the plasma filament on the terahertz wave was studied. The results showed that the terahertz amplitude increases as the position approaches the end of the filament gradually. The stability of amplitude and peak frequency of the terahertz generated by the filament formed by two-color femtosecond laser via a lens with a longer focal length is lower than that through a lens with a shorter focal length, especially the terahertz amplitude at the end of the filament. The study will be helpful for future researchers in the field of THz sub-wavelength imaging utilizing femtosecond laser filament.  相似文献

Terahertz (THz) pulses with energies up to 100 μJ and corresponding electric fields up to 1 MV/cm were generated by coherent transition radiation from 500 MeV electron bunches at the free-electron laser Freie-Elektronen-Laser in Hamburg (FLASH). The pulses were characterized in the time domain by electro-optical sampling by a synchronized femtosecond laser with jitter of less than 100 fs. High THz field strengths and quality of synchronization with an optical laser will enable observation of nonlinear THz phenomena.  相似文献

本文通过理论和数值模拟,研究少周期激光脉冲电离气体原子产生的离化电流 以及相应的THz波辐射.研究表明,少周期激光脉冲离化气体后能产生较大的离化电流, 因而可以产生较强的THz辐射.不同的少周期激光脉冲相位导致电离出的 电子初始速度和电离起始时刻不同,从而产生的离化电流有所不同, 辐射的THz波随激光脉冲的相位成周期性变化.该理论得到一维PIC数值模拟的验证. 对于给定的激光脉冲相位,离化电流和THz辐射振幅并没有随入射激光振幅的增加而单调增加, 而是存在一些极值点.与均匀分布气体相比,当气体分布具有一定梯度时, 辐射表现相似的规律,但频谱会发生一定的变化.  相似文献

利用光电流模型研究了气体辐射太赫兹波产额与驱动激光峰值强度的依赖关系.模拟表明,无论是单色激光脉冲还是双色激光场,当激光较弱时,太赫兹产额随着激光强度的增加而迅速增大;而当气体电离接近或达到饱和后,进一步增强激光场强度,太赫兹产额出现了振荡变化.与通常采用较弱激光强度相比,更高的激光强度(致使气体达到完全电离)会进一步增强太赫兹波的辐射强度.分析各个电离事件所产生电子的个数和运动轨迹的对称性,可以很好地解释这些结果.  相似文献

实验研究了双色超快强激光场作用于氮气分子束所产生的宽带太赫兹(THz)辐射光谱随等离子体介质的密度和长度的依赖关系, 发现THz辐射的中心频率随等离子体密度提高和长度减小而增大(0.8-1.4 THz), 且谱宽也随之增加(0.78-1.53 THz). 分析和计算表明, 太赫兹光谱的变化由等离子体振荡频率和谱宽决定. 该发现为等离子体宽带太赫兹辐射源的光谱操控提供了新思路.  相似文献

We review the generation of broadband THz radiation from femtosecond photo‐induced gas plasmas, with an emphasis on the highly efficient “AC‐bias” case where the plasma is generated and driven by a superposition of fundamental and second‐harmonic optical fields. The dependence on experimental parameters such as pulse energy, air pressure, polarization and focusing are presented, and compared to the predictions from semi‐quantitative models for the THz generation process, namely (i) a microscopic photocurrent model and (ii) a four‐wave mixing model. We also employ these models to the case of few‐cycle pulses, where the observed THz emission is related directly to the carrier‐envelope phase of the pulses, and hence provides a mechanism with which to measure this phase.}  相似文献

We present a terahertz time-domain spectrometer pumped by an all-semiconductor femtosecond laser system which emits 600 fs long optical pulses at 830 nm. Standard LT-GaAs antennas are used to generate and coherently detect THz radiation with a bandwidth of 1.4 THz. The measured time traces are in good agreement with simulations based on the Drude–Lorentz model. Spectroscopic measurements on polymers with different additive contents as well as THz imaging were carried out to confirm the successful operation of the spectrometer. Our approach holds great potential for the development of cost-effective, rugged and portable THz spectrometers for a variety of applications.  相似文献

Factors that lead to a decrease in the width and the mean frequency of the spectrum of terahertz (THz) radiation that were observed in recent experiments on optical rectification of powerful (∼0.5 TW) femtosecond laser pulses with a tilted amplitude front in a lithium niobate crystal are considered. A simple method is proposed that allows one to avoid the above transformation of the spectrum and to ensure a high efficiency of generation of THz radiation when laser pulses with a power of several TW are used.  相似文献

Terahertz (THz) radiation has been observed from multiferroic BiFeO3 thin films via ultrafast modulation of spontaneous polarization upon carrier excitation with illumination of femtosecond laser pulses. The radiated THz pulses from BiFeO3 thin films were clarified to directly reflect the spontaneous polarization state, giving rise to a memory effect in a unique style and enabling THz radiation even at zero-bias electric field. On the basis of our findings, we demonstrate potential approaches to ferroelectric nonvolatile random access memory with nondestructive readability and ferroelectric domain imaging microscopy using THz radiation as a sensitive probe.  相似文献

研究了窄带隙材料InAs和三种不同掺杂浓度的InN在不同抽运光强激发下产生太赫兹(THz)波的辐射特性.实验结果表明:在相同的抽运光强下,InN和InAs辐射的THz信号强度在同一量级,InAs较InN辐射效率要高一些.随着抽运光强的增大,这几种材料的发射光谱变得更宽,当抽运光增大到一定强度时,它们的发射光谱半极大值全宽(HMFW)趋于恒定.InN比InAs更容易在较低功率的抽运光作用下获得宽带太赫兹光谱.研究也表明,不同掺杂浓度对辐射THz波的强度及辐射效率有很大影响.这项研究对于探索半导体表面辐射太赫 关键词: InN InAs 太赫兹 抽运光强  相似文献
