Multiplexing and demultiplexing are the essential parts of any communication network. In case of optical multiplexing and demultiplexing the coding of the data as well as the coding of control signals are most important issues. Many encoding/decoding mechanisms have already been developed in optical communication technology. Recently frequency encoding technique has drawn some special interest to the scientific communities. The advantage of frequency encoding technique over any other techniques is that as the frequency is fundamental character of any signal so it remains unaltered in reflection, refraction, absorption, etc. during transmission of the signal and therefore the system will execute the operation with reliability. On the other hand, the switching speed of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) is sufficiently high with property of best on/off contrast ratio. In our present communication we propose a method of implementing a ‘4-to-1’ multiplexer (MUX) and a ‘1-to-4’ demultiplexer (DEMUX) exploiting the switching character of nonlinear SOA with the use of frequency encoded control signals. To implement the ‘4-to-1’ MUX and ‘1-to-4’ DEMUX system, the frequency selection by multiquantum well (MQW)-grating filter-based SOA has been used for frequency routing purpose. At the same time, the polarization rotation character of SOA has also been exploited to get the desired purpose. Here the fast switching action of SOA with reliable frequency encoded control input signals, it is possible to achieve a faithful MUX/DEMUX service at tera-Hz operational speed.  相似文献

Reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) with the ability of dynamic configuration will be one of the core equipment for the future optical transport networks. This paper proposes an effective scheme for fully ROADM with parallel modularized structure and ability of upgrading. Each module consists of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG), a 1 × 2 optical switch and a Y-model combiner. Optical signal with single wavelength or multiwavelength could be dropped or added at one drop port or add port by configuring the optical switch in each module. The proposed ROADM with four-stage parallel connection is designed and experimentally investigated to prove its performance and advantage in dynamic selection of the wavelengths and upgrading. It is also showed that this ROADM can also reduce the ununiformity of power at output port and drop port to improve the optical signal to noise ration (OSNR) of the whole system.  相似文献

Optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) is emerging and promising alternative for future high-speed photonic networks because of its ability to accommodate higher bit rate and flexible bandwidth. Among other factors the performance of an OTDM system largely depends upon the switching characteristics of a de-multiplexer (DEMUX). Symmetric Mach-Zehnder (SMZ) have been found to be most suitable than all the available de-multiplexing switches because of compact size, thermal stability, and low power operation. In this paper, we simulate four-channel OTDM systems (all channel multiplexer (MUX) and DEMUX) with a Mach-Zehnder modulator and SMZ DEMUX to investigate the impact of signal power, pulse width and control signal power on BER.  相似文献

A novel integrated reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) structure is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. The ROADM employs an interface substrate that enables the integration of a fiber-lens collimator array and an Opto-VLSI processor to realise a 4-f imaging system through optical beam steering. Phase hologram optimization of the Opto-VLSI processor is investigated, for maximizing the number of wavelength channels while keeping adequate insertion loss and crosstalk levels. Experimental results are shown, which demonstrate a broadband operation and the principle of the ROADM with crosstalk of less than −30.5 dB and insertion loss of less than 6 dB for the drop and through operation modes.  相似文献

研究了基于光纤光栅光开关的可重构光分插复用器(ROADM)的设计和实现.提出了一种光纤光栅准直器的结构,由光纤光栅准直器组成的光纤光栅光开关真正实现了光纤光栅与光开关合二为一的结构.以光纤光栅光开关为核心模块,制作了一种ROADM,该器件结构更紧凑,体积更小.通过对样机的测试和系统仿真,结果证明了此种结构的ROADM符合设计标准,具有较高的性能,而且结构简单,操作方便.此外,该ROADM制作过程难度小,器件成本低,适合批量生产.  相似文献

We present the design and experimental characterization of a monolithic optical time-division multiplexer (MUX) for 160 Gbit/s operation based on periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguides. Its key figures of merit agree well with theoretical predictions and meet or exceed those of a previously demonstrated PPLN-planar-light-wave-circuit hybrid MUX. The monolithic design has a simpler layout and higher efficiency while keeping the cross talk low.  相似文献

研制了一种基于窄带薄膜滤光片的可重构的光分插复用器(ROADM).它由三个单芯光纤准直器、一对三端口光环形器、一对全反射镜和一片特别设计的角度调谐窄带多腔薄膜滤光片组成.通过步进电机的推动调制角度调谐滤光片的倾斜入射角度,从而实现了可选择波长上下路.对该可重构的光分插复用器进行了实验研究,并对该器件的串扰特性进行了详细的分析与计算.实验中得到的上下路信道隔离度大于34 dB,可调谐范围大于26nm,与理论计算结构相符.该种新型的ROADM具有结构简单、可调谐范围大、隔离度高、低偏振相关损耗、成本低等特点,可广泛应用于各种密集波分复用(DWDM)光网络.  相似文献

We report a demonstration of a fast wavelength tunable source (TWS) based on the laser diode array coupled to the arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer. 针对概率成型双偏振64-正交幅度调制相干光传输系统,实验研究了可重构光分插复用器(reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer,ROADM)级联引起的带宽变窄对系统比特级可实现信息速率(bit-wise achievable information rate,BW AIR)的影响。发射端采用基于麦克斯韦玻尔兹曼分布的3个概率成型分布信号。实验装置包括概率成型符号序列的产生、模拟ROADM级联引起整体频率响应带宽变窄的可变带宽光滤波器、简化检测和BW AIR计算。结果表明:对于不同的星座熵,带宽变窄的影响是相似的;对于给定光信噪比,产生最大BW AIR的星座熵取决于ROADM级联导致带宽变窄的程度。通过选择合适的概率成型星座分布,系统可获得最大化BW AIR。  相似文献

Multi-degree implementations of the reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) are analyzed in terms of in-band crosstalk performance with an emphasis on the reduction in the number of wavelength selective switches used in the module. It is shown experimentally that an 8-degree ROADM using the wavelength selective switches for channel adding and optical splitters for channel dropping performs closely to one that uses switches for both operations. A new modular architecture based on the wavelength selective switches is proposed for implementations applicable to large degree nodes. Performance analysis of this architecture indicates node scalability to 256 degree with crosstalk-induced power penalties below 0.5 dB.  相似文献

本文提出了一种新的平面波导阵列布喇格光栅结构,并给出了在光敏感材料中制作这种波导光栅结构的全息光辐照方法.以LiNbO3:Fe晶体作为光敏感材料,用不同空间频率的双光束干涉条纹辐照后,通过数字全息技术对晶体的光致折射率分布测量和进行的导波衍射测试结果表明,利用这种光辐照方法在光敏感材料中制作平面波导阵列全息布喇格光栅是完全可行的.其显著的导波衍射现象表明,如果在平面波导阵列中制作多重布喇格光栅,有可能使其成为超密集波分复用(UDWDM)系统中波长复用/解复用的核心器件.  相似文献

Quantum Dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is an alternate version of the existing conventional CMOS technology due to its low power intake, faster speed, and smaller size. A multiplexer is a very important logical block in VLSI designs. In this paper, a 2:1 multiplexer (MUX) architecture is proposed, analyzed and compared with related existing architectures. The kink energy of proposed circuit has been calculated and hazard analysis has been completed successfully. All designs in this paper are simulated, checked, and verified using the popular QCADesigner tool. The comparisons of the proposed design with respect to different parameters of the existing MUX(s) along with their corresponding graphical representations prove the robustness of the proposed multiplexer.

A new WDM-PON scheme with real-time monitoring based on a time-sharing method is proposed. It uses an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) to monitor multiple ports by integrating an optical switch (OSW) with a dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) at the optical line terminal (OLT) site. Each downstream signal and its corresponding monitoring signal are separated by m times the free-space range (FSR) of an array waveguide grating (AWG). A bit error rate (BER) test in 2.5 Gb/s × 27 km is performed with and without turning on the OTDR. A small power penalty of 0.7 dB is observed compared to the back-to-back measurement.  相似文献

In this paper, a 3 × 1 Multiplexer/Demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) Photonic Crystal (PhC) based structure is presented. This is achieved by carefully considering the coupling length of the propagating wave and accurately engineering the geometrical design of the microcavities. The design is highly selective, such that, a microcavity embedded between two waveguides selects a particular wavelength to couple from one waveguide into an adjacent waveguide. The numerical technique used for the designs throughout this paper is the Complex Envelope Alternating Direction Implicit Finite Difference Time Domain (CE-ADI-FDTD).  相似文献

根据N×N多模干涉耦合器的基本原理 ,确定了多模干涉耦合器的结构参数。通过分析多模干涉耦合器的输入光场与其映像间的相位关系 ,提出了模传输矩阵的分析方法 ,并用此方法分析了N×N普通干涉多模干涉耦合器、N×N相移器以及N×N普通干涉多模干涉马赫 曾德尔光开关 ,得到了它们的模场传输方程 ,分析了光开关在光场从任一输入端输入 ,从任一输出端输出时开关的驱动条件。用上面的方法分析了 4× 4光开关的结构及驱动条件  相似文献

A periodic add/drop system in a fiber ring network was investigated using a reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) in a re-circulating fiber loop. After seven cascaded add/drop nodes at every 150 km along the transmission, at bit error ratio (BER) equals to 10−9 and data rate of 10 Gbps, we observed a 2.5 dB power penalty for the passing through channels with 1050 km transmission distance, and 0.3 dB sensitivity penalty variation for the periodic add/drop channels at every 150 km, respectively.  相似文献

Many lower-speed data streams can be multiplexed into one high-speed stream by means of optical time division multiplexing (OTDM), such that each input channel transmits its data in an assigned time slot. The simulation is performed by a fast multiplexer switch (mux). The routing of different data streams at the end of the TDM link is performed by a demultiplexer switch (demux) and this demultiplexer is employed using MZI switch as it consists a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and an optical coupler. In this paper four channel OTDM is simulated at 40 Gbit/s and further the impact of the signal power, pulse width and control signal power on BER is investigated.  相似文献

The static performance of active multimode interference (MMI) couplers is analyzed in the presence of two different optical signals using a beam propagation method (BPM)-based simulation. To examine the feasibility of a novel all-optical switch based on active MMI; the simulation is mainly used to evaluate the amount of phase change resulting in the output of one optical signal by varying the intensity of the other at different injected carrier density. The simulation code is based on the finite difference (FD)-BPM and is including the distribution of photon density, carrier density, and refractive index.  相似文献

A 1 × 2 optical switch using only one multimode interference (MMI) region is designed and demonstrated in GaAs/AlGaAs. This design makes a single MMI region works as MMI coupler using paired interference at “off” state and symmetric interference at “on” state. By injecting a current of 110 mA, the measured on/off ratio and crosstalk are 23 dB and 33 dB, respectively in the demonstrated device with GaAs/GaAlAs.  相似文献
