超声振动辅助方法已在各种硬脆性材料的加工工艺中得以应用,其优异的加工能力和效果已得到广泛证明。本研究中通过采集有无超声振动条件下锯切光学玻璃的平均锯切力以及单颗金刚石磨粒划擦实验下的力信号,对不同工艺条件下的平均锯切力、单颗磨粒受力特征进行分析。同时通过扫描电镜观察对应力信号下工件与工具加工后表面形貌,进一步通过超声振动下材料去除机理解释超声振动对锯切力影响。结果表明:与传统锯切工艺相比,超声振动辅助使得单颗磨粒划擦过程中的受力降低引起平均锯切力的降低;超声振动改变普通锯切下材料的去除方式;同时可使工具保持良好的锯切状态,降低光学玻璃材料的锯切力比,改善其可加工性。  相似文献

Cutting force is one of the most important output variables in rotary ultrasonic machining (RUM) of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites. Many experimental investigations on cutting force in RUM of CFRP have been reported. However, in the literature, there are no cutting force models for RUM of CFRP. This paper develops a mechanistic predictive model for cutting force in RUM of CFRP. The material removal mechanism of CFRP in RUM has been analyzed first. The model is based on the assumption that brittle fracture is the dominant mode of material removal. CFRP micromechanical analysis has been conducted to represent CFRP as an equivalent homogeneous material to obtain the mechanical properties of CFRP from its components. Based on this model, relationships between input variables (including ultrasonic vibration amplitude, tool rotation speed, feedrate, abrasive size, and abrasive concentration) and cutting force can be predicted. The relationships between input variables and important intermediate variables (indentation depth, effective contact time, and maximum impact force of single abrasive grain) have been investigated to explain predicted trends of cutting force. Experiments are conducted to verify the model, and experimental results agree well with predicted trends from this model.  相似文献

Ultrasonically assisted turning of modern aviation materials is conducted with ultrasonic vibration (frequency f approximately 20 kHz, amplitude a approximately 15 microm) superimposed on the cutting tool movement. An autoresonant control system is used to maintain the stable nonlinear resonant mode of vibration throughout the cutting process. Experimental comparison of roughness and roundness for workpieces machined conventionally and with the superimposed ultrasonic vibration, results of high-speed filming of the turning process and nanoindentation analyses of the microstructure of the machined material are presented. The suggested finite-element model provides numerical comparison between conventional and ultrasonic turning of Inconel 718 in terms of stress/strain state, cutting forces and contact conditions at the workpiece/tool interface.  相似文献

Ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting is a complex process with high dynamics. The interaction between cutting tool and workpiece is of key interest to understand the entire process. Experimental investigations are limited by the dynamics of the measurement system, and thus appropriately modeling of the ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting process is essential. In this investigation, a dynamic model regarding the ultrasonic vibration assisted guillotining of stacked paper sheets is developed. A Kelvin–Voigt material model, representing the individual sheets, is chosen, with its stiffness and damping parameters being empirically determined. A novel measurement strategy for studying the contact time and interaction between cutting tool and workpiece is introduced. It allows the verification of the highly dynamic behavior of the developed model. With the dynamic model, the experimentally observed cutting forces can be calculated. It is found that the dynamic forces cause a quicker failure of the material, which leads to a lower compression of the stack prior to reaching the critical cutting force.  相似文献

Many brittle materials, such as single-crystal materials, amorphous materials, and ceramics, are widely used in many industries such as the energy industry, aerospace industry, and biomedical industry. In recent years, there is an increasing demand for high-precision micro-machining of these brittle materials to produce precision functional parts. Traditional ultra-precision micro-machining can lead to workpiece cracking, low machined surface quality, and reduced tool life. To reduce and further solve these problems, a new micro-machining process is needed. As one of the nontraditional machining processes, rotary ultrasonic machining is an effective method to reduce the issues generated by traditional machining processes of brittle materials. Therefore, rotary ultrasonic micro-machining (RUμM) is investigated to conduct the surface micro-machining of brittle materials. Due to the small diameter cutting tool (<500 μm) and high accuracy requirements, the impact of input parameters in the rotary ultrasonic surface micro-machining (RUSμM) process on tool deformation and cutting quality is extremely different from that in rotary ultrasonic surface machining (RUSM) with relatively large diameter cutting tool (∼10 mm). Up till now, there is still no investigation on the effects of ultrasonic vibration (UV) and input variables (such as tool rotation speed and depth of cut) on cutting force and machined surface quality in RUSμM of brittle materials. To fill this knowledge gap, rotary ultrasonic surface micro-machining of the silicon wafer (one of the most versatile brittle materials) was conducted in this study. The effects of ultrasonic vibration, tool rotation speed, and depth of cut on tool trajectory, material removal rate (MRR), cutting force, cutting surface quality, and residual stress were investigated. Results show that the ultrasonic vibration could reduce the cutting force, improve the cutting surface quality, and suppress the residual compressive stress, especially under conditions with high tool rotation speed.  相似文献

We studied dynamic friction phenomena introduced by ultrasonic surface acoustic waves using a scanning force microscope in the lateral force mode and a scanning acoustic force microscope. An effect of friction reduction was found when applying surface acoustic waves to the micro-mechanical tip-sample contact. Employing standing acoustic wave fields, the wave amplitude dependent friction variation can be visualized within a microscopic area. At higher wave amplitudes, a regime was found where friction vanishes completely. This behavior is explained by the mechanical diode effect, where the tip's rest position is shifted away from the surface in response to ultrasonic waves.  相似文献

An FEM model is developed for a fundamental study of the time-dependent mechanical behavior of the substrate and its dimensions on ultrasonic consolidation. The simulation shows that for a given vibration condition, the amplitude of contact friction stress and displacement stabilizes to a saturated state after certain number of ultrasonic cycles. With the increased substrate height, the amplitude of contact frictional stress decreases, while that of contact interface displacement increases. The reason for the decrease in the frictional stress at the contact interface for certain substrate heights is the complicated wave interference occurring in the substrate. An analytical wave model has been built to validate the FEM model. A specific substrate geometry (height:width = 1.0) generates a minimum frictional strain state at the interface as a result of wave superposition. Such minimum strain state is believed to have produced the “lack of bonding” defect for the geometry. The energy density and transfer coefficient at the contact interface with different substrate heights is used as an indicator to correlate with the bond formation in ultrasonic bonding.  相似文献

It is known that the main factors in a variation in the shape memory alloy properties under insonation are heating of the material and alternate stresses action. In the present work the experimental study of the mechanical behaviour and functional properties of shape memory alloy under the action of alternate stresses and varying temperature was carried out. The data obtained had demonstrated that an increase in temperature of the sample resulted in a decrease or increase in deformation stress depending on the structural state of the TiNi sample. It was shown that in the case of the alloy in the martensitic state, a decrease in stress was observed, and on the other hand, in the austenitic state an increase in stress took place. It was found that action of alternate stresses led to appearance of strain jumps on the strain–temperature curves during cooling and heating the sample through the temperature range of martensitic transformation under the constant stress. The value of the strain jumps depended on the amplitude of alternate stresses and the completeness of martensitic transformation. It was shown that the heat action of ultrasonic vibration to the mechanical behaviour of shape memory alloys was due to the non-monotonic dependence of yield stress on the temperature. The force action of ultrasonic vibration to the functional properties was caused by formation of additional oriented martensite.  相似文献

Adding ultrasonic vibrations to drilling process results in an advanced hybrid machining process, entitled “vibration drilling”. This study presents the design and fabrication of a vibration drilling tool by which both rotary and vibrating motions are applied to drill simultaneously. High frequency and low amplitude vibrations were generated by an ultrasonic transducer with frequency of 19.65 kHz. Ultrasonic transducer was controlled by a MPI ultrasonic generator with 3 kW power. The drilling tool and workpiece material were HSS two-flute twist drill and Al2024-T6, respectively. The aim of this study was investigating on the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on built-up edge, surface quality, chip morphology and wear mechanisms of drill edges. Therefore, these factors were studied in both vibration and ordinary drilling. Based on the achieved results, vibration drilling offers less built-up edge and better surface quality compared to ordinary drilling.  相似文献

In this paper, the technique of ultrasonic flexural vibration assisted chemical mechanical polishing (UFV-CMP) was used for sapphire substrate CMP. The functions of the polishing pad, the silica abrasive particles, and the chemical additives of the slurry such as pH value regulator and dispersant during the sapphire's UFV-CMP were investigated. The results showed that the actions of the ultrasonic and silica abrasive particles were the main factors in the sapphire material removal rate (MMR) and the chemical additives were helpful to decrease the roughness of sapphire. Then the effects of the flexural vibration on the interaction between the silica abrasive particles, pad and sapphire substrate from the kinematics and dynamics were investigated to explain why the MRR of UFV-CMP was bigger than that of the traditional CMP. It indicated that such functions improved the sapphire's MRR: the increasing of the contact silica particles’ motion path lengths on the sapphire's surface, the enhancement of the contact force between the contact silica particles and the sapphire's surface, and the impaction of the suspending silica particles to the sapphire's surface.  相似文献

Conventional high power ultrasonic vibration has been widely used to improve manufacturing processes like surface treatment and metal forming. Ultrasonic vibration affects material properties, leading to a flow stress reduction, which is called ultrasonic volume effect. The volume effect contains multi-mechanisms such as stress superposition due to oscillatory stress, acoustic softening by easier dislocation motion and dynamic impact leading to extra surface plastic deformation. However, most researches ignored the stress superposition for the convenience of measurement, and few studies considered ultrasonic dynamic impact since the relatively low ultrasonic energy in macro scale. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics and mechanisms of different ultrasonic volume effects in micro-forming. A 60 kHz longitudinal ultrasonic-assisted compression test system was developed and a series of ultrasonic-assisted compression tests at different amplitudes on commercially pure aluminum A1100 in micro-scale were carried out combining the surface analysis by SEM, EDX and micro-hardness test. Three different ultrasonic volume effects, stress superposition, acoustic softening and dynamic impact, were confirmed in the ultrasonic-assisted compression tests. In order to quantitatively predict stress superposition, a hybrid model for stress superposition is developed considering the elastic deformation of experimental apparatus in practice, the evolution of the modeling results fitted well with the experimental results. With low ultrasonic amplitude, stress superposition and acoustic softening occurred because vibrated punch contacted with the specimen all the time during compression. However, with higher amplitude, due to the extra surface plastic deformation by larger ultrasonic energy, forming stress was further reduced by the ultrasonic dynamic impact. A possible method to distinguish the effects of dynamic impact and acoustic softening is to analyze the waveform of the oscillatory stress in the process. In the case of ultrasonic dynamic impact effect, a higher amount of oxidation was observed on the specimen surface, which could be the result of local heating by surface plastic deformation and surface friction when the vibrated punch detached from the specimen. The findings of this study provide an instructive understanding of the underlying mechanisms of volume effects in ultrasonic-assisted micro-forming.  相似文献

Titanium has widely been used in chemical and aerospace industries. In order to overcome the drawbacks of cold compaction of titanium, the process was assisted by an ultrasonic vibration system. For this purpose, a uniaxial ultrasonic assisted cold powder compaction system was designed and fabricated. The process variables were powder size, compaction pressure and initial powder compact thickness. Density, friction force, ejection force and spring back of the fabricated samples were measured and studied. The density was observed to improve under the action of ultrasonic vibration. Fine size powders showed better results of consolidation while using ultrasonic vibration. Under the ultrasonic action, it is thought that the friction forces between the die walls and the particles and those friction forces among the powder particles are reduced. Spring back and ejection force didn’t considerably change when using ultrasonic vibration.  相似文献

Using a single-blade ultrasonic cutting device, a study of ultrasonic cutting of three very different materials is conducted using specimens of cheese, polyurethane foam and epoxy resin. Initial finite element models are created, based on the assumption that the ultrasonic blade causes a crack to propagate in a controlled mode 1 opening, and these are validated against experimental data from three point bend fracture tests and ultrasonic cutting experiments on the materials. Subsequently, the finite element model is developed to represent ultrasonic cutting of a multi-layered material. Materials are chosen whose properties allow a model to be developed that could represent a multi-layer food product or biological structure, to enable ultrasonic cutting systems to be designed for applications both in the field of food processing and surgical procedures. The model incorporates an estimation of the friction condition between the cutting blade and the material to be cut and allows adjustment of the frequency, cutting amplitude and cutting speed.  相似文献

Surface texturing has been recognized as an effective means to improve the tribological performances of sliding surfaces. Usually, generation additional hydrodynamic pressure to increase the load carrying capacity is regarded as the most significant effect of surface texture. In the case of silicon carbide sliding against identical material in water, the experimental results indicate that surface texture is also helpful to improve the running-in progress to smooth the contact surfaces, showing another reason to result in low friction. Based on the consideration of enhancing the generation of hydrodynamic pressure and improving running-in progress, a surface texture pattern, which was combined with large (circle, 350 μm in diameter) and small (rectangular, 40 μm in length) dimples, was designed to maximize the texture effect on the load carrying capacity of SiC surfaces sliding in water. The friction coefficient of such textured surface was evaluated and compared with that of untextured and those only with large or small dimples only. The friction reduction mechanisms of the patterns with different dimples in size are discussed.  相似文献

在超声滚压加工中引入切削液后可能会产生空化现象,由此产生的微射流和冲击波对超声表面强化将有积极作用。为研究超声滚压加工中空化现象是否存在及空化效应在超声滚压中的作用,本文首先分析了超声滚压中的空化阈值,然后进行了染色法试验和超声滚压后试样氧元素能谱分析,最后通过超声滚压加工对比试验研究了空化效应对加工后材料表面粗糙度和显微硬度的影响。研究发现,超声滚压加工中的声压幅值远大于空化阈值,满足空化存在的必要条件;超声滚压中发生了明显的卡纸染色现象,引入切削液后工件超声滚压加工表面氧元素含量显著提高,表明超声滚压中发生了空化现象。超声滚压加工中的空化效应能进一步降低工件表面粗糙度和提高表面显微硬度,有利于提高工件表面强化质量。本研究为空化效应在超声滚压中的积极利用提供了依据。  相似文献

In dynamic force microscopy the cantilever of an atomic force microscope is vibrated at ultrasonic frequencies in the range of several 10 kHz up to several MHz while scanning a sample surface. The amplitude and phase of the cantilever vibration as well as the shift of the cantilever resonance frequencies provide information about local sample surface properties. In several operation modes of dynamic force microscopy, for example force modulation microscopy, tapping mode or atomic force acoustic microscopy, the sensor tip is in contact with the sample at least during a fraction of its vibration cycle. The periodic indentation of the tip with the sample surface generates ultrasonic waves. In this paper, the ultrasonic radiation of a vibrating cantilever into a sample and its contribution to the damping of the cantilever vibration are calculated. The theoretical results are compared to experiments.  相似文献

The vibration characteristics of an aluminum surface subjected to ultrasonic waves were investigated with a combination of numerical simulation and experimental testing. The wetting behavior of solder droplets on the vibrating aluminum surface was also examined. The results show that the vibration pattern of the aluminum surface is inhomogeneous. The amplitude of the aluminum surface exceeds the excitation amplitude in some zones, while the amplitude decreases nearly to zero in other zones. The distribution of the zero-amplitude zones is much less dependent on the strength of the vibration than on the location of the vibration source. The surface of the liquid solder vibrates at an ultrasonic frequency that is higher than the vibration source, and the amplitude of the liquid solder is almost twice that of the aluminum surface. The vibration of the surface of the base metal (liquid solder) correlates with the oxide film removal effect. Significant removal of the oxide film can be achieved within 2 s when the amplitude of the aluminum surface is higher than 5.4 μm or when the amplitude of the liquid solder surface is higher than 10.2 μm.  相似文献

As a first attempt to study the dynamics of a heated structure with complicated boundaries, this paper deals with the thermal buckling and the natural vibration of a simply supported slender beam, which is subject to a uniformly distributed heating and has a frictional sliding end within a clearance. This sliding end is initially at a stick status under the friction force, but may be slightly slipping due to the thermal expansion of the beam until the sliding end contacts a stop, i.e., the bound of the clearance. The material properties of the beam are temperature-independent for low temperature, but temperature-dependent for high temperature. For each case, the analytic solutions for the critical buckling temperature and the natural frequencies of the heated beam are derived first. Then, discussions are made to reveal the effects of beam parameters, such as the ratio of beam length to beam thickness, the ratio of clearance to beam length and the temperature-dependent material properties, on the critical buckling temperature and the fundamental natural frequency of the heated beam. The study shows that both friction force and clearance have significant influences on the critical buckling temperature and the fundamental natural frequency of the beam. When the friction force is not very large, the clearance can greatly increase the critical buckling temperature. These conclusions enable one to properly design the stick–slip–stop boundary so as to improve the mechanical performance of the beam in thermal environments.  相似文献

High power ultrasonic vibration is widely used for improving manufacturing processes such as machining and metal forming. High frequency mechanical vibration affects material properties and friction forces in contacting surfaces. Flow stress reduction under superimposed ultrasonic vibration is called as acoustic softening. The amount of this parameter should be determined for ultrasonic assisted metal forming processes. For determination of this parameter for workhorse Ti-6Al-4V alloy, experimental setup was designed and fabricated. Then tensile test under longitudinal ultrasonic vibration was performed for different ultrasonic powers. Results show that ultrasonic vibration has considerable effect on plastic behavior of the alloy and decreases flow stress. Also, increasing ultrasonic power leads to higher acoustic softening. Yield stress reduction up to 9.52%, ultimate stress reduction up to 4.55% and elongation up to 13% were obtained at 340 W ultrasonic power. After applying ultrasonic vibrations and its termination, hardness of specimens were measured in which increase up to 9% was observed.  相似文献

The presented research work, aimed at deeper understanding of vibrational process during high-frequency vibration cutting, is accomplished by treating cutting tool as an elastic structure which is characterized by several modes of natural vibrations. An approach for surface quality improvement is proposed in this paper by taking into account that quality of machined surface is related to the intensity of tool-tip (cutting edge) vibrations. It is based on the excitation of a particular higher vibration mode of a turning tool, which leads to the reduction of deleterious vibrations in the machine-tool-workpiece system through intensification of internal energy dissipation in the tool material. The combined application of numerical analysis with accurate finite element model as well as different experimental methods during investigation of the vibration turning process allowed to determine that the most favorable is the second flexural vibration mode of the tool in the direction of vertical cutting force component. This mode is excited by means of piezoelectric transducer vibrating in axial tool direction at the corresponding natural frequency, thereby enabling minimization of surface roughness and tool wear.  相似文献
