An all-fibre Tm:Ho laser system is reported, using a 1600 nm Er fibre pump laser and 0.3 m length of the fibre through a two-stage optimization of both the pump source and laser configuration to achieve a low threshold operation. As a result a low threshold power of 33 mW and a slope efficiency of 0.6% have been achieved, in laser operation at a wavelength of 1870 nm and a cross-comparison with 785 nm laser diode pumping has been made.  相似文献

Multi-wavelength Brillouin-Erbium fibre laser utilising fibre Fabry-Pérot resonator is presented here. The proposed laser cavity used only a 980 nm laser diode and a coil of Erbium-doped fibre to produce cascaded Brillouin Stokes. The highest number of Stokes up to 43 lines with a spacing of 0.088 nm was obtained experimentally.  相似文献

The operation of a passively modelocked figure-eight laser with all fibre repetition rate multiplier is reported. Thirty two times the fundamental repetition rate is achieved with six conventional 3 dB couplers at a repetition rate of 182 MHz. The repetition rate 2N times multiplication only requires (N + 1) passive fibre couplers and N fibre delay-lines. This method makes it possible to achieve high multiplication and is inexpensive when compared with conventional methods employing sub-ring cavity or special fibre Bragg grating to control repetition rate.  相似文献

In this paper both Er and Er-Yb-Cr doped phosphate microspheres have been successfully created through precise melting of the ends of fibre tapers, drawn, respectively, from Er and Er-Yb-Cr doped phosphate glasses. When coupled with a fibre taper, a microsphere fibre laser cavity can thus be configured creating a system pumped by a 980 nm laser diode and using an optical spectrum analyzer to monitor the spectral characteristics of the laser output. The performance and characteristics of the Er and Er-Yb-Cr microsphere lasers thus created are discussed in detail and cross-compared in this paper. Both lasers have shown low-threshold in terms of the pump power and the laser output wavelengths and a close investigation of the system has shown that the output power and laser stability are closely related to the size of the microsphere, the pump power and the microsphere material composition.  相似文献

We propose optical fibre based filters employing dual-core resonant leaky structure for gain equalization of erbium doped fibre amplifier (EDFA). Spectral loss variation of the structure has been utilized to suppress gain peak and, thus, flatten overall gain profile in the C-band. We show 15.7 dB flat gain with ± 1.6 dB ripple in the wavelength range from 1525 nm to 1555 nm using a single filter and 18±0.7 dB gain using two cascaded filters.  相似文献

A plastic-clad optical fibre system has been examined as a delivery system of pulsed laser energy for the generation of ultrasound. The onset of significant optical damage caused by the laser has been investigated. By using multimode fibres of 1 m length with 600 μm core size, it was found that laser power densities from the fibre were sufficient to produce ultrasonic waveforms corresponding to both the thermoelastic and plasma generation regimes. Out-of-plane acoustic displacements of >250 pm can be achieved through 2.5 cm thick aluminium test samples, showing that fibre optical delivery systems may be considered in systems using laser-generated ultrasound for non-destructive testing applications.  相似文献

Erbium-doped twin-core fibre narrow-band filter for fibre lasers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Theoretical analysis of a recently experimentally demonstrated erbium-doped twin-core (ErTCF) fibre saturable-absorber-based narrow-band tracking filter is presented. Basic qualitative characteristics of the filter are deduced from an analogy with an ideally inhomogeneously broadened saturable absorber while the effect of wide band saturation of absorption due to spatial overlap of individual spectral components of the radiation is studied in detail using a numerical model based on coupled mode theory, resolved in space and frequency. The effect of the input power, twin-core fibre length and laser operating wavelength on the spectral characteristics of the filter is investigated.  相似文献

We report the successful manufacture of short fibre reinforced polymer composites via the process of ultrasonic assembly. An ultrasonic device is developed allowing the manufacture of thin layers of anisotropic composite material. Strands of unidirectional reinforcement are, in response to the acoustic radiation force, shown to form inside various matrix media. The technique proves suitable for both photo-initiator and temperature controlled polymerisation mechanisms. A series of glass fibre reinforced composite samples constructed in this way are subjected to tensile loading and the stress–strain response is characterised. Structural anisotropy is clearly demonstrated, together with a 43% difference in failure stress between principal directions. The average stiffnesses of samples strained along the direction of fibre reinforcement and transversely across it were 17.66 ± 0.63 MPa and 16.36 ± 0.48 MPa, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, the operation of the Brillouin/erbium fibre laser (BEFL) in the long wavelength band (L-band or 1565–1625 nm) is experimentally demonstrated. The Stokes frequency is shifted 10 GHz from its Brillouin pump (BP) from 1598 to 1612 nm for the single wavelength BEFL. Multiple wavelength generation in the BEFL is realised by adding two 3-dB couplers, which are joined in a reverse-S arrangement to take a portion of the generated BEFL signal and re-inject it into the single-mode fibre (SMF) to seed a cascaded BEFL line in the same direction as the first BEFL line. Twenty lines including the anti-Stokes are obtained with a maximum BP and 980-nm pump power of 8.8 and 92 mW, respectively. The L-band BEFL has the potential to be used in future wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) communication system.  相似文献

The effects of injection-locked on an erbium-doped fibre laser based on a ring configuration have been demonstrated. A comparison between experimental results and theoretical prediction in the locking range is made with consistent results in a small wavelength range of about 15 nm. Frequency stabilisation was obtained by applying this approach, ensuring stable output power of the fibre laser system.  相似文献

A dual-wavelength, continuous wave, high efficiency fibre Raman ring laser for pumping U-band (1625–1675 nm) fibre Raman amplifiers is demonstrated. Two fibre Bragg gratings were used as wavelength-selective elements resulting in lasing lines at 1529.7 and 1558.7 nm with respective maximum powers of 209.0 and 390.9 mW. A simple U-band Raman amplifier was constructed to test the dual-wavelength pump laser and on:off gain with a peak of 7.3 dB and a 3-dB bandwidth of 73 nm was obtained.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates a room-temperature multiwavelength fibre laser with spacing-adjustability and wavelength-tunability. The nonlinear gain of self-excited stimulated Brillouin scattering can suppress mode competition induced by homogeneous broadening of Erbium-doped fibre. With the use of a birefringence fibre loop filter, the wavelength spacing can be adjusted by changing the length of the used birefringence fibre, and the lasing wavelengths can be finely tuned through modifying the filtering profile of the birefringence filter. Multiwavelength output with spectral spacing as small as 0.076~nm and a wavelength number of more than 80 has been successfully produced.  相似文献

Opto-thermal device attached to automate Fizeau interferometer is used to investigate the influence of temperature on opto-thermal properties of multimode graded-index (GRIN) optical fibre in the range from 27 to 54 °C. The effect of temperature on the refractive index profile of fibre is studied. The optical parameters and the opto-thermal coefficient of this fibre are determined. Also the variation of oscillation and dispersion energies, zero dispersion wavelengths, coupling efficiency, normalised frequency, number of propagation modes with the temperature and the material dispersion with the wavelength at different temperatures are calculated. A long-period grating written in the SMF-28 fibre was heat treated at 1000 °C for 15 days. The spectrum of the grating shifted to longer wavelengths and the resonances depth decreased as a result of structural relaxation. The background loss increased considerably for times longer than 200 h, and this loss is caused by devitrification of the fibre.  相似文献

Fibre sensors exhibit a number of advantages over other sensors such as high sensitivity, electric insulation, corrosion resistance, interference rejection and so on. And laser self-mixing interference can accurately detect the phase difference of feedback light. In this paper, a novel laser self-mixing interference fibre sensor that combines the advantages of fibre sensors with those of laser self-mixing interference is presented. Experimental configurations are set up to study the relationship between laser power output and phase of laser feedback light when the fibre trembles or when the fibre is stretched or pressed. The theoretical analysis of pressure sensors based on laser self-mixing interference is indicated to accord with the experimental results.  相似文献

High power and highly efficient operation of a Tm3+, Ho3+-doped silica fibre laser that is pumped with diode lasers operating at 1150 nm is demonstrated. Internal slope efficiencies approaching the Stokes limit were produced and the maximum output power was 2.9 W. High power diode lasers operating at 1150 nm are valuable pump sources for a range of fibre lasers offering output in the shortwave infrared spectrum.  相似文献

A multiwavelength Brillouin/erbium fibre laser (BEFL) which operates in the long wavelength (L-band) region is demonstrated for potential applications in an L-band wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) communication system. The laser configuration consists of a long erbium-doped fibre to enable L-band amplification where two 3-dB couplers take a portion of the generated BEFL signal and re-inject it into the single mode fibre to seed a cascaded BEFL line in the same direction as the first BEFL line. A stable and strong laser comb of up to five lines with 10-GHz spacing has been obtained with a Brillouin pump (BP) of 9.2 mW and a 980 nm pump of 92 mW. The BEFL has shown a broad tuning range with a tuning characteristic for line #1 which is flat over a range greater than 9.9 nm.  相似文献

研究了基于半导体光放大器(SOA)和双段级联取样光纤光栅构成的新型结构多波长激光器.设 计了取样光纤光栅,计算了其反射谱,模拟了多波长激光器的输出光谱.基于自行制作的SOA 和取样光纤光栅,进行了多波长激光器的实验研究,得到了间隔为0.8nm、输出功率不平坦 度小于1.0dB的11个波长输出.理论和实验两个方面都可以验证:与基于普通取样光栅的多波 长方案相比,基于双段级联取样光栅的方案能改善输出谱平坦度,并可提高可激射波长数. 关键词: 半导体光放大器 取样光纤光栅 多波长激光器  相似文献

We demonstrate a high efficiency 1083 nm fibre amplifier tandem pumped by a 1030 nm fibre laser. The 1030 nm fibre laser is coupled into a 25 m long single clad ytterbium doped fibre via a high power wave division multiplexer to core pump the 1083 nm signal laser. An output power of 4.5 W and a power conversion efficiency of 76.6% are achieved without power-roll. The performance of the amplifier can be improved by optimizing the gain fibre length.  相似文献
