包含左手材料的四层平板波导中的光导模   总被引:3,自引:2,他引:1  
研究一个芯子层是左手材料,其他三层由传统材料构成的四层平板光波导系统,利用图解法对各种TE偏振的导波模式的解进行详细分析.研究表明,四层左手材料光波导既能支持振荡导模,也能支持表面导模,与三层左手材料光波导相比较,此四层波导的导波模式呈现一些新的特性.对于中间传统材料层存在振荡场的情形:芯子层支持振荡导模的光波导中存在基模,并且高阶振荡导模出现模式缺失的性质;芯子层支持表面导模的光波导可以支持基模和多个高阶模式,并且存在模式兼并的性质.对于中间传统材料层存在衰减场的情形,此四层波导结构可等效为三层左手材料光波导.这些新的光波导传输性质对各种光波导器件的制作有潜在的应用价值.  相似文献

We study guided modes propagating along a dielectric slab waveguide with a left handed material (LHM) cover or substrate. The dispersion relation is derived by using normalized waveguide parameters. An analytical method is then proposed to calculate the universal dispersion curves. Different from a slab waveguide with a LHM core, we find that guidance properties are strongly dependent on dielectric permittivity ε and magnetic permeability μ of the substrate and cover layers. For oscillating guided modes, fundamental zero order mode is not always absence, sometimes it exists in a restricted range of normalized propagation constant. First order mode behaves as other higher order modes and exists up to infinite high frequency. Higher order modes have no double degeneracy in the case of LHM cover layer. For surface guided modes, the existence and the type of the mode solutions with respect to different parameters are classified systematically and discussed in detail. Unlike a slab waveguide with a LHM core where the dispersion curve of TE1 surface mode continues with that of oscillating TE1 mode, the dispersion curve of TE1 surface mode continues with that of oscillating TE0 mode. It seems that the two different kinds of modes compensate each other to form one whole mode. Both TE and TM guided modes are discussed.  相似文献

利用图解法系统地研究了由不同类型的单负材料作为包层的三层平板波导的模式特征.研究表明单负介质波导具有一系列奇异的特性,与传统介质波导或左手介质波导相比,此波导的芯区横向振荡导模的模折射率范围较大.除0阶导模外,其它TE,TM导模均为芯区横向振荡模,且同阶的TE、TM模的色散曲线几乎重合,只有0阶的TE,TM模才可以支持表面波的传播.单负介质的结构参数对0阶导模的影响较大.一定条件下,波导中可以出现0阶导模的完伞缺失或仅支持表面波的传输,还会出现超慢波现象,甚至可以共生都是后向波的0阶双模.  相似文献

It has been experimentally demonstrated that a low-loss guided hybrid mode is supported if a metal strip is embedded in a low index polymer layer surrounded by two high index slabs. In this paper, further numerical analyses on the guided hybrid modes are reported to fully elucidate the characteristics of the hybrid plasmonic waveguide. For a one-dimensional slab structure with a metal film of infinite width, simulation results exhibit that low-loss guided hybrid modes are associated with surface plasmon modes and dual dielectric slab modes. The optical properties of the guided modes are improved by increasing the field intensity which is confined into lossless dielectric layers by decreasing the metal film thickness and increasing the refractive index and thickness of the high-index slabs. The finite element method is used to investigate the lateral mode confinement of the optical guided modes by the corresponding metal strip. By reducing the metal film width, the guided modes are confined in the plane transverse to the direction of propagation and the characteristics are significantly improved. The hybrid plasmonic waveguide can be exploited for long-range propagation-based application such as optical interconnection.  相似文献

We report a low-loss photonic crystal slab waveguide formed by deforming the innermost circle air holes in the conventional photonic crystal slab waveguide into elliptical ones. We obtain the photonic bands and group index of guided modes in this photonic crystal waveguide by guided-mode expansion method and investigate the dependence of photonic bands and group index of guided modes on the parameters of the innermost elliptical air holes. The group velocity and group velocity dispersion of this waveguide strongly depend on the innermost elliptical air holes. Photonic crystal slab waveguide with the optimum innermost elliptical air holes possesses a wider single mode region below the light line, in which light can easily propagate without intrinsic loss. At the same time, the guided mode supported by this waveguide has nearly constant group velocity and vanishing group velocity dispersion in a 3-5 nm bandwidth.  相似文献

系统研究了负μ材料(MNG)作为包层的对称三层平板波导的传输特性. 研究发现,这种波导既支持快波的传播,又支持TE0,TE1模式的慢波传输. 其模式特性不同于左手介质波导和传统介质波导,导模存在的模折射率范围要比它们的大. MNG波导的TE0快波模缺失,且TEm模(m>1)的传播常数大于TMm模的传播常数. TEm模具有双模特征,且与波导的结构参数密切相关,导致波导中的净能流出现负值. 关键词: 单负介质 平板波导 快波与慢波 传播常数  相似文献

We investigate how two-dimensional spatial optical solitons can be generated in a non-linear Kerr medium using the non-linear guided modes of a weakly-guiding slab waveguide with a linear core and a non-linear cladding as the source of excitation. Symmetric, antisymmetric and asymmetric non-linear modes are considered, from which we determine the parameters of single solitons, oscillating two-soliton bound states, and two repelling solitons, respectively. An asymmetric quantum well in graphene can act as a slab waveguide for electron waves in a manner analogous to the electromagnetic waves in dielectrics. Guided modes and the probability current density are analyzed in the graphene electron waveguide induced by asymmetric electrostatic potential. The modes in an asymmetric graphene waveguide include guided modes, “cover modes”, “substrate modes” and “radiation modes”. The conditions for a guided mode are quantified. It is found that the fundamental mode is absent when both the Klein tunneling and classical motion are present. The confinement of electrons for lower order mode is stronger than for higher order mode. We hope that these characteristics in asymmetric graphene waveguide can provide potential applications in graphene-based waveguide devices.  相似文献

从麦克斯韦方程组出发,结合电磁场的边界条件,推导出介质矩形波导导模的一般色散方程.对普通介质矩形波导和左手介质矩形波导的导模场分布分别进行了数值模拟.通过对比两种介质矩形波导的导模场分布的模拟结果,发现左手介质矩形波导Ex22模的场分布比普通介质波导Ex00模的场更集中在波导中部.同时,根据处理普通介质矩形波导的Marcatili方法.类比得到左手介质矩形波导表面模的色散方程,并数值模拟了低阶模的场分布,结果表明,能量主要集中在波导的四个角区以及波导的边缘.  相似文献

对于晶体光轴平行于波导界面的结构,讨论了光在金属包层对称平面单轴晶体波导(波导层是单轴晶体,两个波导界面均为金属)内的传输特性.解析地得到了这种结构下波导模式场的精确解.模式场的性质因单轴晶体的性质不同而异.对于正单轴晶体,波导的主模是横电波,任何频率的光波均可激励该模式;当频率满足一定条件时,波导内传输单模,否则,将激励起高阶模式.高阶模既非TE波,也非TM波,而是两者耦合而成的混合模.对于负单轴晶体,波导的主模是一种混合模,该模式同样可被任何频率的光波所激励;当频率满足一定条件时,波导内传输单模,否则 关键词: 平面金属波导 单轴晶体 模式场 混合模  相似文献

利用椭圆形孔替代传统光子晶体薄板波导中邻接波导的最内层两排圆孔构成一种新型低损耗光子晶体薄板光波导.该波导的群速度和群速度色散特性强烈依赖于波导中这两排邻接波导的椭圆孔的特性.借助波导导模展开方法,计算得到波导的能带结构和群指数,并分析了它们与椭圆孔的参数关系.通过优化这些椭圆孔的参数,可以增加光子晶体光波导导模在光锥以下的无固有传输损耗带宽,在2—45 nm 的带宽上实现无色散的常数群速度.这些理论结果将为低损耗低色散慢光波导的设计制造提供理论基础. 关键词: 光子晶体薄板波导 群速度 群指数 群速度色散  相似文献

The dispersion relation for the guided modes is obtained analytically, the structures of the guided modes are discussed under three distinct cases. For the cases of the classical motion and the Klein tunneling, the asymmetric structure does not influence the mode structures dramatically compared with that in the symmetric waveguide. But for the mixing case of the former two, the mode structures and the motion characteristics for the electron and the hole exhibit different behaviors at same condition. By means of a zigzag-wave model, we perform a comprehensive analysis of the guided modes of a photonic bandgap slab waveguide that consists of a low-index guiding layer placed between two different Bragg reflectors. We show that the guided modes of the waveguide operate inside the overlapped bandgaps of the two Bragg reflectors. We label each mode with three mode orders, which reflect the features of the mode-field distribution in the guiding layer and the two Bragg reflectors, respectively. We discuss in detail the transmission characteristics of the guided modes, including the dispersion curves, the cutoff conditions, and the confinement factors, and highlight the mode-selection characteristics of the waveguide. We also study the effects of truncating the Bragg reflectors by deriving an analytical expression to show the dependence of the leakage losses of the modes on the numbers of the periods in the truncated Bragg reflectors.  相似文献

We present two mode solvers applied to a very thin long–range plasmonic waveguide. We compare the guided mode complex effective index obtained either applying a Fourier modal method or calculating density of guided modes using the Green’s dyad technique. We achieve good agreement for both effective indices and mode profiles. We also observe a different behaviour compared to long–range surface plasmon supported by thicker films.  相似文献

针对消逝场传感器的不足,提出了一种传感介质处于波导芯层,且以超高阶导模为探针的光波导振荡场传感器.由于其波导芯层处于功率密度极高的振荡场区域,而超高阶导模又具有对芯层参数极为灵敏的性质,因此这种新型传感器的灵敏度大大增强.实现了超越消逝场传感器灵敏度极限值几个量级的位移传感器.  相似文献
