A study of ohmic selective properties of open coaxial cylindrical resonators has been conducted experimentally and compared with theory. The resonator consists of an inner cylinder made of silicon carbide symmetrically located inside an outer cylindrical, tube shaped waveguide. Several fundamental TE modes were identified over the range 9 to 17 GHz through measurements of the resonant frequencies and the associated quality factors. Mode discrimination is achieved both by exploring selective ohmic effects and examining the electrodynamical properties of the coaxial cylindrical waveguide. The effectiveness of a silicon carbide coaxial insert in providing ohmic mode selection is demonstrated in that the totalQ factors of TE
mp
modes with radial indexp2 become well below the quality factors for surface TE
m1 modes. It has been verified that both structure and number of resonant modes are strongly dependent on the diameter and the resistivity of the coaxial insert. 相似文献

A study of the electrodynamical properties of open coaxial cylindrical resonators using a partially conical inner rod is made along with experimental verification. On the basis of a geometrical criterion for the occurrence of high-Q resonances, it turns out to be possible to discriminate certain classes of TE modes by keeping to a minimum value their diffrationQ factors. In particular, for an especially designed cavity only TE0.2 and TE1.3 modes appear to have strong resonance in the 6 · 14GH
z

A study of the electrodynamical properties of a Ka-band gyrotron open resonator was experimentally conducted. Experiments were accomplished to measure resonant frequencies and their respective loaded quality factors for TE modes in the frequency range from 26 to 40 GHz. In particular, a perturbation technique was used to determine the axial, radial and azimuthal electric field profiles, as an identification method of the TE021 mode operating around 35 GHz. In any experimental event, good agreement with the values predicted by theory was found. 相似文献

We design a single-ridged coaxial hybrid coupler which excites a TE011 mode of high mode content in a cylindrical cavity, resonating at 28.2GHz. The coupler consists of a WR-28 rectangular waveguide, a coaxial TEn11 cavity, and a cylindrical TE011 cavity. Both TE311 coaxial cavity and TE411 single-ridged coaxial cavity are analyzed to examine the TE011 mode purity in the central cavity. Mode purity analysis is performed by a field expansion method using Fourier-Bessel orthonormal basis functions. Numerical calculations predict that the TE411 single-ridged coaxial cavity excites the TE011 mode with mode purity of 98.6%, which is improved by 3% higher compared with the TE311 coaxial cavity. Measurements on the single-ridged coaxial coupler show a resonant frequency at 28.078GHz and ohmic and external Qs of 1560, 473 respectively, which are in good agreement with the simulated results of a 3-D finite element electromagnetic code. 相似文献

To provide the required mode selectivity for a 1 MW, 280 GHz gyrotron, a coaxial resonator operating in the high order TE42,7 mode is considered. Mode discrimination is achieved both by exploring selective ohmic effects and examining the electrodynamic properties of the coaxial cylindrical waveguide. Experiments have been conducted to characterize a gyrotron cavity designed to operate in theTE
021 mode at 10 GHz. Cavity excitation was accomplished via a coupling hole introduced into the cavity wall and mode detection was carried out by means of two experimental arrangements. In the first, electromagnetic energy is coupled into a receiving waveguide through a small second hole drilled in the opposite side of the cavity. The other scheme uses a horn antenna to receive the power reradiated by the open resonator. Both schemes are discussed regarding mode detection, and measured data includes resonant frequency, loadedQ factor, axial electric field profile and farfield radiation pattern. Evaluation of the loadedQ factor is based on bandwidth measurements whereas standing-wave electric field profile is determined by using perturbation techniques. For severalTE modes, close agreeent between theory and experiment is found. 相似文献

The design and operation of a 32 GHz pulsed gyrotron are reported. The device is step-tuned between the TE1,2 (24.16 GHz) and TE0,2 (31.78 GHz) modes with cathode voltages ranging from 30 to 40kV and beam current up to 5.0A. Experimental frequencies are in close agreement with the self-consistent calculated values and in the TE2,2 resonator mode an output peak power of 6kW corresponding to an 18% efficiency was measured by using a fast response calorimeter with a thermal sensitivity of 0.1°C/Wmin. 相似文献

Two types of directional couplers for transverse electric (TE) modes are described: short and multihole couplers, respectively. They selectively pick one mode out of a mode mixture in an overmoded circular waveguide system. Unwanted modes are either statistically kept at low level or are suppressed by destructive interference in the coupling waveguide. Mode selectivity and directivity in multihole couplers oscillate up and down with an increasing number of holes, finally reaching a minimum of approximately 20 dB, unless there are competing modes with rational fractions of the beat wavelength. A multihole coupler for the TE02 mode (28 GHz, 63.4 mm waveguide diameter, 41 holes) and a length of 1.6 m shows a calculated directivity of 68 dB and suppresses the unwanted modes TE01 with 34 dB (24 dB), TE22 with 37 dB (45 dB), and further modes TEm (<5, m<6) with 17 dB to 34 dB in forward direction (figures in parentheses are for unwanted modes propagating in backward direction).A short directional coupler for the TE01 mode (28 GHz, 63.4 mm waveguide diameter) with 16 holes and a length of 230 mm shows a directivity of 55 to 100 dB between 27.9 and 28.1 GHz, suppressing the TE02 mode with 35 to 80 dB, the TE03 mode with 30 to 65 dB, and the TE22 mode with 30 to 70 dB. 相似文献

A CW gyrotron for the sensitivity enhancement of NMR spectroscopy through dynamic nuclear polarization has been designed.

A slot antenna is developed to excite the high harmonic waveguide mode for generating large-area plasmas. This antenna consists of a TE011 mode coaxial cavity with the axial slots positioned on equal interval on the inner wall. The waves radiated from those slots can excite the high harmonic mode in the central area. With the azimuthal symmetric wave field of the TE011 mode, the number of the slots can be chosen to match the field pattern of the high harmonic mode. In this report, the dispersion relation of the coaxial waveguide, the coupling scheme and the mode competition of the cavity are studied. From measurements of the Q factors or frequency shifts of H 1 polarized modes in a coaxial cavity information on the crystallographic orientation of a single-crystal sample of which the cavity inner cylinder is made can be derived. The choice of H 1 modes in the coaxial cavity and its sizes at microwave frequencies is optimized. An analytic theory has been derived for determining the eigenfrequencies, RF-field distribution and Q of the TEmpq modes of a gyrotron resonator consisting of a circular cylinder joined to a slowly tapered section. Explicit results are obtained for a linear taper. The cavity modes are found to have an RF-field distribution which is useful for prebunching the electron beam and enhancing efficiency. For high Q cavities, the cavity Q depends on axial mode number q as q–2, which is important for mode discrimination. Proper selection of taper length is found to reduce the Q of high q modes, also aiding in mode discrimination. The present approach may be applied to other forms of weakly irregular cavities, such as cavities with nonlinear tapers.Work supported by U.S.D.O.E. We study guided modes propagating along a dielectric slab waveguide with a left handed material (LHM) cover or substrate. The dispersion relation is derived by using normalized waveguide parameters. An analytical method is then proposed to calculate the universal dispersion curves. Different from a slab waveguide with a LHM core, we find that guidance properties are strongly dependent on dielectric permittivity ε and magnetic permeability μ of the substrate and cover layers. For oscillating guided modes, fundamental zero order mode is not always absence, sometimes it exists in a restricted range of normalized propagation constant. First order mode behaves as other higher order modes and exists up to infinite high frequency. Higher order modes have no double degeneracy in the case of LHM cover layer. For surface guided modes, the existence and the type of the mode solutions with respect to different parameters are classified systematically and discussed in detail. Unlike a slab waveguide with a LHM core where the dispersion curve of TE1 surface mode continues with that of oscillating TE1 mode, the dispersion curve of TE1 surface mode continues with that of oscillating TE0 mode. It seems that the two different kinds of modes compensate each other to form one whole mode. Both TE and TM guided modes are discussed. 相似文献

The quasi-optical mode converter for a frequency step-tunable gyrotron which consists of a dimpled-wall antenna (Denisov-type launcher) and a beam-forming mirror system has been optimized for 9 modes from TE17,6 at 105 GHz to TE23,8 at 143 GHz. The first mirror is a large quasi-elliptical focusing one; the second and third are phase-correcting mirrors with a non-quadratic shape of the surface. The results of calculations show that for these modes the Denisov-type launcher has a well-focused beam with low diffraction losses, and the radiation pattern presents an almost identical field shape for all modes considered. A multi-mode optimization of the phase-correcting mirrors with two different methods has been tested. The simulations show that the phase-correcting mirrors can be used for broadband operation in the frequency range from 105 GHz up to 143 GHz in the various design modes. This quasi-optical mode converter can achieve efficiencies of 94%-98% for converting the rotating high-order cylindrical cavity modes into the usable fundamental Gaussian mode. 相似文献
