In this note, we study properties of the gradient map of the isoparametric polynomial. For a given isoparametric hypersurface in sphere, we calculate explicitly the gradient map of its isoparametric polynomial which turns out many interesting phenomenons and applications. We find that it should map not only the focal submanifolds to focal submanifolds, isoparametric hypersurfaces to isoparametric hypersurfaces, but also map isoparametric hypersurfaces to focal submanifolds. In particular, it turns out to be a homogeneous polynomial automorphism on certain isoparametric hypersurface. As an immediate consequence, we get the Brouwer degree of the gradient map which was firstly obtained by Peng and Tang with moving frame method. Following Farina's construction, another immediate consequence is a counterexample of the Brézis question about the symmetry for the Ginzburg-Landau system in dimension 6, which gives a partial answer toward the Open problem 2 raised by Farina.  相似文献

In this paper, we give the complete classifications of isoparametric hypersurfaces in Randers space forms. By studying the principal curvatures of anisotropic submanifolds in a Randers space (N, F) with the navigation data (h, W), we find that a Randers space form (N, F, dμBH) and the corresponding Riemannian space (N, h) have the same isoparametric hypersurfaces, but in general, their isoparametric functions are different. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for an isoparametric function of (N, h) to be isoparametric on (N, F, dμBH), from which we get some examples of isoparametric functions.  相似文献

It is proven results about existence and nonexistence of unit normal sections of submanifolds of the Euclidean space and sphere, which associated Gauss maps, are harmonic. The n-dimensional complex hyperquadric is a compact complex algebraic hypersurface defined by the quadratic equation in the (n+1)-dimensional complex projective space, which is isometric to the real Grassmann manifold of oriented 2-planes and is a compact Hermitian symmetric space of rank 2. In this paper, we study geometry of compact Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics from the viewpoint of the theory of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres. From this viewpoint we provide a classification theorem of compact homogeneous Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics by using the moment map technique. Moreover we determine the Hamiltonian stability of compact minimal Lagrangian submanifolds embedded in complex hyperquadrics which are obtained as Gauss images of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres with g(=  1, 2, 3) distinct principal curvatures. A submanifold in a symmetric space is called equifocal if it has a globally flat abelian normal bundle and its focal data is invariant under normal parallel transportation. This is a generalization of the notion of isoparametric submanifolds in Euclidean spaces. To each equifocal submanifold, we can associate a Coxeter group, which is determined by the focal data at one point. In this paper we prove that an equifocal submanifold in a simply connected compact symmetric space is a non-trivial product of two such submanifolds if and only if its associated Coxeter group is decomposable. As a consequence, we get a similar splitting result for hyperpolar group actions on compact symmetric spaces. These results are an application of a splitting theorem for isoparametric submanifolds in Hilbert spaces by Heintze and Liu.

We construct a class of Finsler metrics in three-dimensional space such that all their geodesics are lines, but not all planes are extremal for their Hausdorff area functionals. This shows that if the Hausdorff measure is used as notion of volume on Finsler spaces, then totally geodesic submanifolds are not necessarily minimal, filling results such as those of Ivanov [On two-dimensional minimal fillings, St. Petersburg Math. J. 13 (2002) 17-25] do not hold, and integral-geometric formulas do not exist. On the other hand, using the Holmes-Thompson definition of volume, we prove a general Crofton formula for Finsler spaces and give an easy proof that their totally geodesic hypersurfaces are minimal.  相似文献

In this note we discuss a few properties of transnormal Finsler functions, i.e., the natural generalization of distance functions and isoparametric Finsler functions. In particular, we prove that critical level sets of an analytic transnormal function are submanifolds, and the partition of M into level sets is a Finsler partition, when the function is defined on a compact analytic manifold M.  相似文献

A Lie hypersurface in the complex hyperbolic space is a homogeneous real hypersurface without focal submanifolds. The set of all Lie hypersurfaces in the complex hyperbolic space is bijective to a closed interval, which gives a deformation of homogeneous hypersurfaces from the ruled minimal one to the horosphere. An immersed umbilic-free submanifold in the unit sphere is called Blaschke isoparametric if its Möbius form vanishes identically and all of its Blaschke eigenvalues are constant. Then the classification of Blaschke isoparametric hypersurfaces is natural and interesting in the Möbius geometry of submanifolds. In the present paper parallel submanifolds and focal points of a given submanifold with flat normal bundle are discussed provided that the ambient space has constant sectional curvature. We present shape operators of parallel submanifolds with respect to arbitrary normal vectors. Motivated by the theory of isoparametric hypersurfaces,we study submanifolds whose tubular hypersurfaces have some constant higher order mean curvatures.Here a k-th order mean curvature Q_k~v(k ≥ 1) of a submanifold M~n-is defined as the k-th power sum of the principal curvatures,or equivalently,of the shape operator with respect to the unit normal vector v.We show that if all nearby tubular hypersurfaces of M have some constant higher order mean curvatures,then the submanifold M itself has some constant higher order mean curvatures Q_k~v independent of the choice of v.Many identities involving higher order mean curvatures and Jacobi operators on such submanifolds are also obtained.In particular,we generalize several classical results in isoparametric theory given by E.Cartan,K.Nomizu,H.F.Miinzner,Q.M.Wang,et al.As an application,we finally get a geometrical filtration for the focal submanifolds of isoparametric functions on a complete Riemannian manifold.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop the notion of screen isoparametric hypersurface for null hypersurfaces of Robertson–Walker spacetimes. Using this formalism we derive Cartan identities for the screen principal curvatures of null screen isoparametric hypersurfaces in Lorentzian space forms and provide a local characterization of such hypersurfaces.  相似文献

The focal submanifolds of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres are all minimal Willmore submanifolds, mostly being \({\mathcal{A}}\) -manifolds in the sense of A.Gray but rarely Ricci-parallel, see Li et al. (Sci China Math 58, 2015), Qian et al. (Ann Glob Anal Geom 43:47–62, 2013), Tang and Yan (Isoparametric foliation and a problem of Besse on generalizations of Einstein condition arXiv:1307.3807, 2013). In this paper we study the geometry of the focal submanifolds via Simons formula. We show that all the focal submanifolds with g ≥ 3 are not normally flat by estimating the normal scalar curvatures. Moreover, we give a complete classification of the semiparallel submanifolds among the focal submanifolds.  相似文献

著名的Yau 猜想断言单位球面中的紧致嵌入极小超曲面的Laplace 算子的第一特征值等于其维数. 近年来有许多几何学家致力于对Yau 猜想的研究, 但是到目前为止, 已有的结论只是一些关于第一特征值估计的不等式. 作为本文的一个主要结果, 本文证明了对于单位球面中的等参极小超曲面,Yau 猜想是正确的. 进一步地, 对于等参超曲面的焦流形(实际上是球面的极小子流形), 本文还证明了在一定维数条件下, 它的第一特征值也是其维数.
作为本文的第二个主要结果, 以著名的Schoen-Yau-Gromov-Lawson 的关于数量曲率的手术理论为出发点, 本文在一个Riemann 流形的嵌入超曲面处作手术, 构造了一个新的具有丰富几何性质的流形, 称为double 流形. 特别地, 本文在单位球面的极小等参超曲面处实行了这一手术, 发现得到的double 流形不仅有很复杂的拓扑(但其示性类有精确描述), 还存在数量曲率为正的度量, 更重要的是保持了等参叶状结构.
比Willmore 曲面更广泛的定义是Willmore 子流形, 即Willmore 泛函在球面中的的极值子流形.单位球面中的Willmore 子流形的例子在已有文献中是非常罕见的. 作为本文的另外两个主要结果, 通过深入挖掘单位球面上的OT-FKM- 型等参函数的焦流形的性质, 本文发现其极大值对应的焦流形是单位球面的一系列Willmore 子流形; 之后, 本文用几何办法统一证明了单位球面中具有4 个不同主曲率的等参超曲面的焦流形都是单位球面的Willmore 子流形. 这些新的Willmore 子流形是极小的,但一般不是Einstein 的.  相似文献
