We use integrable systems techniques to study the singularities of timelike non-minimal constant mean curvature (CMC) surfaces in the Lorentz–Minkowski 3-space. The singularities arise at the boundary of the Birkhoff big cell of the loop group involved. We examine the behavior of the surfaces at the big cell boundary, generalize the definition of CMC surfaces to include those with finite, generic singularities, and show how to construct surfaces with prescribed singularities by solving a singular geometric Cauchy problem. The solution shows that the generic singularities of the generalized surfaces are cuspidal edges, swallowtails, and cuspidal cross caps.  相似文献

In this paper, by introducing a new frame on spacelike curves lying in lightcone 3-space, we investigate the geometric properties of the lightlike surface of the Darboux-like indicatrix and the lightlike surface of the binormal indicatrix generated by spacelike curves in lightcone 3-space. As an extension of our previous work and an application of the singularity theory, the singularities of the lightlike surfaces of the Darboux-like indicatrix and the lightlike surface of the binormal indicatrix are classified, several new invariants of spacelike curves are discovered to be useful for characterizing these singularities, meanwhile, it is found that the new invariants also measure the order of contact between spacelike curves or principal normal indicatrixes of spacelike curves located in lightcone 3-space and two-dimensional lightcone whose vertices are at the singularities of lightlike surfaces. One concrete example is provided to illustrate our results.  相似文献

The Lorentzian space form with the positive curvature is called de Sitter space which is an important subject in the theory of relativity. In this paper we consider spacelike curves in de Sitter 3-space. We define the notion of lightlike surfaces of spacelike curves in de Sitter 3-space. We study the geometric properties of degenerate surfaces, which are called AdS null surfaces, in Anti de Sitter 3-space from a contact viewpoint. These surfaces are associated to spacelike curves in Anti de Sitter 3-space. We define a map which is called the torus Gauss image. We also define two families of functions and use them to investigate the singularities of AdS null surfaces and torus Gauss images as applications of singularity theory of functions.  相似文献

A spacelike surface in a Lorentzian manifold whose mean curvature vector is lightlike everywhere is called marginally trapped. The classification of marginally trapped surfaces in Minkowski 4-space which are invariant under a subgroup of the Lorentz group that leaves invariant a lightlike direction, i.e. the so-called screw invariant surfaces, is obtained. As corollaries, the screw invariant marginally trapped surfaces with harmonic mean curvature vector and with prescribed Gaussian curvature are explicitly described.  相似文献

We describe discrete maximal surfaces with singularities in 3-dimensional Minkowski space and give a Weierstrass type representation for them. In the smooth case, maximal surfaces (spacelike surfaces with mean curvature identically 0) in Minkowski 3-space generally have certain singularities. We give a criterion that naturally describes the “singular set” for discrete maximal surfaces, including a classification of the various types of singularities that are possible in the discrete case.  相似文献

We give an infinite dimensional generalized Weierstrass representation for spacelike constant mean curvature (CMC) surfaces in Minkowski 3-space R2,1. The formulation is analogous to that given by Dorfmeister, Pedit and Wu for CMC surfaces in Euclidean space, replacing the group SU2 with SU1,1. The non-compactness of the latter group, however, means that the Iwasawa decomposition of the loop group, used to construct the surfaces, is not global. We prove that it is defined on an open dense subset, after doubling the size of the real form SU1,1, and prove several results concerning the behavior of the surface as the boundary of this open set is encountered. We then use the generalized Weierstrass representation to create and classify new examples of spacelike CMC surfaces in R2,1. In particular, we classify surfaces of revolution and surfaces with screw motion symmetry, as well as studying another class of surfaces for which the metric is rotationally invariant.  相似文献

In this paper, we study spacelike and timelike curves of constant breadth in Minkowski 3-space. We show that in Minkowski 3-space spacelike and timelike curves of constant breadth are normal, helices, and spherical curves in some special cases. Furthermore, we give that the total torsion of a closed spacelike curve of constant breadth is zero while the total torsion of a simple closed timelike curve is equal to ${2\pi n, (n \in Z)}$ .  相似文献

In this paper Fermi–Walker derivative and Fermi–Walker parallelism and non-rotating frame concepts are given along the curve lying on the spacelike surface and the timelike surface in Minkowski 3-space. In this paper, we analyze the problem of constructing a surface pencil from a given spacelie (timelike) line of curvature. Using the Frenet frame of the given line of curvature in Minkowski 3-space, we express the surface pencil as a linear combination of this frame and derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the coefficients to satisfy the line of curvature requirement. We consider Ribaucour transformations for flat surfaces in the hyperbolic 3-space, H3H3. We show that such transformations produce complete, embedded ends of horosphere type and curves of singularities which generically are cuspidal edges. Moreover, we prove that these ends and curves of singularities do not intersect. We apply Ribaucour transformations to rotational flat surfaces in H3H3 providing new families of explicitly given flat surfaces H3H3 which are determined by several parameters. For special choices of the parameters, we get surfaces that are periodic in one variable and surfaces with any even number or an infinite number of embedded ends of horosphere type.  相似文献

Let c be a positive constant and H a constant satisfying |H| > c. Our primary object of this paper is to give representation formulas for branched CMC H (constant mean curvature H) surfaces in the hyperbolic 3-space 3(-c2) of constant curvature c2, and for spacelike CMC H surfaces in the de Sitter 3-space S 3 1(c2) of constant curvature c2. In the present paper, we consider the general helices in Minkowski 3-space to have a constant timelike slope axis. As a result, we show that there exists no pseudo null helix with constant timelike slope axis or spacelike helix with timelike principal normal and constant timelike slope axis. Moreover, we obtain the parametric equations of spacelike helix with spacelike principal normal, timelike helix and null Cartan helix with timelike slope axis. We define the notions of lightcone Gauss images of spacelike hypersurfaces in de Sitter space. We investigate the relationships between singularities of these maps and geometric properties of spacelike hypersurfaces as an application of the theory of Legendrian singularities.
