In this paper, we consider the numerical treatment of a fourth‐order fractional diffusion‐wave problem. Our proposed method includes the use of parametric quintic spline in the spatial dimension and the weighted shifted Grünwald‐Letnikov approximation of fractional integral. The solvability, stability, and convergence of the numerical scheme are rigorously proved. It is shown that the theoretical convergence order improves those of earlier work. Simulation is further carried out to demonstrate the numerical efficiency of the proposed scheme and to compare with other methods.  相似文献

This is the further work on compact finite difference schemes for heat equation with Neumann boundary conditions subsequent to the paper, [Sun, Numer Methods Partial Differential Equations (NMPDE) 25 (2009), 1320–1341]. A different compact difference scheme for the one‐dimensional linear heat equation is developed. Truncation errors of the proposed scheme are O2 + h4) for interior mesh point approximation and O2 + h3) for the boundary condition approximation with the uniform partition. The new obtained scheme is similar to the one given by Liao et al. (NMPDE 22 (2006), 600–616), while the major difference lies in no extension of source terms to outside the computational domain any longer. Compared with ones obtained by Zhao et al. (NMPDE 23 (2007), 949–959) and Dai (NMPDE 27 (2011), 436–446), numerical solutions at all mesh points including two boundary points are computed in our new scheme. The significant advantage of this work is to provide a rigorous analysis of convergence order for the obtained compact difference scheme using discrete energy method. The global accuracy is O2 + h4) in discrete maximum norm, although the spatial approximation order at the Neumann boundary is one lower than that for interior mesh points. The analytical techniques are important and can be successfully used to solve the open problem presented by Sun (NMPDE 25 (2009), 1320–1341), where analyzed theoretical convergence order of the scheme by Liao et al. (NMPDE 22 (2006), 600–616) is only O2 + h3.5) while the numerical accuracy is O2 + h4), and convergence order of theoretical analysis for the scheme by Zhao et al. (NMPDE 23 (2007), 949–959) is O2 + h2.5), while the actual numerical accuracy is O2 + h3). Following the procedure used for the new obtained difference scheme in this work, convergence orders of these two schemes can be proved rigorously to be O2 + h4) and O2 + h3), respectively. Meanwhile, extension to the case involving the nonlinear reaction term is also discussed, and the global convergence order O2 + h4) is proved. A compact ADI difference scheme for solving two‐dimensional case is derived. Finally, several examples are given to demonstrate the numerical accuracy of new obtained compact difference schemes. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the article, two linearized finite difference schemes are proposed and analyzed for the Benjamin–Bona–Mahony–Burgers (BBMB) equation. For the construction of the two-level scheme, the nonlinear term is linearized via averaging k and k + 1 floor, we prove unique solvability and convergence of numerical solutions in detail with the convergence order O(τ2 + h2) . For the three-level linearized scheme, the extrapolation technique is utilized to linearize the nonlinear term based on ψ function. We obtain the conservation, boundedness, unique solvability and convergence of numerical solutions with the convergence order O(τ2 + h2) at length. Furthermore, extending our work to the BBMB equation with the nonlinear source term is considered and a Newton linearized method is inserted to deal with it. The applicability and accuracy of both schemes are demonstrated by numerical experiments.  相似文献

In this work, we introduce the convergence analysis of the recently developed finite volume scheme to solve a pure aggregation population balance equation that is of substantial interest in many areas such as chemical engineering, aerosol physics, astrophysics, polymer science, pharmaceutical sciences, and mathematical biology. The notion of the finite volume scheme is to conserve total mass of the particles in the system by introducing weight in the formulation. The consistency of the finite volume scheme is also analyzed thoroughly as it is an influential factor. The convergence study of the numerical scheme shows second order convergence on uniform, nonuniform smooth (geometric) as well as on locally uniform meshes independent of the aggregation kernel. Moreover, the first‐order convergence is shown when the finite volume scheme is implemented on oscillatory and random meshes. In order to check the accuracy, the numerical experimental order of convergence is also computed for the physically relevant as well as analytically tractable kernels and validated against its analytical results.  相似文献

In this article, two recent proposed compact schemes for the heat conduction problem with Neumann boundary conditions are analyzed. The first difference scheme was proposed by Zhao, Dai, and Niu (Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 23, (2007), 949–959). The unconditional stability and convergence are proved by the energy methods. The convergence order is O2 + h2.5) in a discrete maximum norm. Numerical examples demonstrate that the convergence order of the scheme can not exceeds O2 + h3). An improved compact scheme is presented, by which the approximate values at the boundary points can be obtained directly. The second scheme was given by Liao, Zhu, and Khaliq (Methods Partial Differential Eq 22, (2006), 600–616). The unconditional stability and convergence are also shown. By the way, it is reported how to avoid computing the values at the fictitious points. Some numerical examples are presented to show the theoretical results. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article is concerned with a high‐order difference scheme presented by Jain, Jain, and Mohanty for the nonlinear parabolic equation uxx = F(x, t, u, ut, ux) with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The solvability of the difference scheme is proved by Brower's fixed point theorem and the uniqueness of the difference solution is obtained by showing that the coefficient matrix is strictly column‐wise diagonal dominant. The boundedness and convergence of the difference scheme are obtained. The convergence order is 4 in space and 2 in time in L‐norm. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the validity of the theoretical results. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq , 2006  相似文献

In this paper, the finite difference scheme is developed for the time-space fractional diffusion equation with Dirichlet and fractional boundary conditions. The time and space fractional derivatives are considered in the senses of Caputo and Riemann-Liouville, respectively. The stability and convergence of the proposed numerical scheme are strictly proved, and the convergence order is O(τ2−α+h2). Numerical experiments are performed to confirm the accuracy and efficiency of our scheme.  相似文献

The numerical simulation of the dynamics of the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth is considered in this article. The governing equation is a nonlinear evolutionary equation that is of linear fourth order derivative term and nonlinear second order derivative term in space. The main purpose of this work is to construct and analyze two linearized finite difference schemes for solving the MBE model. The linearized backward Euler difference scheme and the linearized Crank‐Nicolson difference scheme are derived. The unique solvability, unconditional stability and convergence are proved. The linearized Euler scheme is convergent with the convergence order of O(τ + h2) and linearized Crank‐Nicolson scheme is convergent with the convergence order of O2 + h2) in discrete L2‐norm, respectively. Numerical stability with respect to the initial conditions is also obtained for both schemes. Numerical experiments are carried out to demonstrate the theoretical analysis. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2011  相似文献

The main purpose of the current paper is to propose a new numerical scheme based on the spectral element procedure for simulating the neutral delay distributed‐order fractional damped diffusion‐wave equation. To this end, the temporal direction has been discretized by a finite difference formula with convergence order where 1<α<2. In the next, to obtain a full‐discrete scheme, we apply the spectral finite element method on the spatial direction. Furthermore, the unconditional stability of semidiscrete scheme and convergence order of full‐discrete scheme of new technique are discussed. Finally, 2 test problems have been considered to demonstrate the ability and efficiency of the proposed numerical technique.  相似文献

Recently Caputo and Fabrizio introduced a new derivative with fractional order without singular kernel. The derivative can be used to describe the material heterogeneities and the fluctuations of different scales. In this article, we derived a new discretization of Caputo–Fabrizio derivative of order α (1 < α < 2) and applied it into the Cattaneo equation. A fully discrete scheme based on finite difference method in time and Legendre spectral approximation in space is proposed. The stability and convergence of the fully discrete scheme are rigorously established. The convergence rate of the fully discrete scheme in H1 norm is O(τ2 + N1?m), where τ, N and m are the time‐step size, polynomial degree and regularity in the space variable of the exact solution, respectively. Furthermore, the accuracy and applicability of the scheme are confirmed by numerical examples to support the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a robust semi-explicit difference scheme for solving the Kuramoto–Tsuzuki equation with homogeneous boundary conditions. Because the prior estimate in L-norm of the numerical solutions is very hard to obtain directly, the proofs of convergence and stability are difficult for the difference scheme. In this paper, we first prove the second-order convergence in L2-norm of the difference scheme by an induction argument, then obtain the estimate in L-norm of the numerical solutions. Furthermore, based on the estimate in L-norm, we prove that the scheme is also convergent with second order in L-norm. Numerical examples verify the correction of the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical method based on quintic trigonometric B‐splines for solving modified Burgers' equation (MBE). Here, the MBE is first discretized in time by Crank–Nicolson scheme and the resulting scheme is solved by quintic trigonometric B‐splines. The proposed method tackles nonlinearity by using a linearization process known as quasilinearization. A rigorous analysis of the stability and convergence of the proposed method are carried out, which proves that the method is unconditionally stable and has order of convergence O(h4 + k2). Numerical results presented are very much in accordance with the exact solution, which is established by the negligible values of L2 and L errors. Computational efficiency of the scheme is proved by small values of CPU time. The method furnishes results better than those obtained by using most of the existing methods for solving MBE.  相似文献

The present work is an extension of our previous work (Bradji, Numer Methods Partial Differ Equations, to appear) which dealt with error analysis of a finite volume scheme of a first convergence order (both in time and space) for second‐order hyperbolic equations on general nonconforming multidimensional spatial meshes introduced recently in (Eymard et al. IMAJ Numer Anal 30(2010), 1009–1043). We aim in this article to get some higher‐order time accurate schemes for a finite volume method for second‐order hyperbolic equations using the same class of spatial generic meshes stated above. We derive a family of finite volume schemes approximating the wave equation, as a model for second‐order hyperbolic equations, in which the discretization in time is performed using a one‐parameter scheme of the Newmark's method. We prove that the error estimate of these finite volume schemes is of order two (or four) in time and it is of optimal order in space. These error estimates are analyzed in several norms which allow us to derive approximations for the exact solution and its first derivatives whose the convergence order is two (or four) in time and it is optimal in space. We prove in particular, when the discrete flux is calculated using a stabilized discrete gradient, that the convergence order is \begin{align*}k^2+h_\mathcal{D}\end{align*} or \begin{align*}k^4+h_\mathcal{D}\end{align*}, where \begin{align*}h_\mathcal{D}\end{align*} (resp. k) is the mesh size of the spatial (resp. time) discretization. These estimates are valid under the regularity assumption \begin{align*}u\in C^4(\lbrack 0,T\rbrack;C^2(\overline{\Omega}))\end{align*}, when the schemes are second‐order accurate in time, and \begin{align*}u\in C^6(\lbrack 0,T\rbrack;C^2(\overline{\Omega}))\end{align*}, when the schemes are four‐order accurate in time for the exact solution u. The proof of these error estimates is based essentially on a comparison between the finite volume approximate solution and an auxiliary finite volume approximation. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method is studied for numerically solving the fractal mobile/immobile transport equation with a new time Caputo–Fabrizio fractional derivative. The stability of the LDG scheme is proven, and a priori error estimates with the second‐order temporal convergence rate and the (k + 1) th order spatial convergence rate are derived in detail. Finally, numerical experiments based on Pk, k = 0, 1, 2, 3, elements are provided to verify our theoretical results.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the scattering of acoustic and electromagnetic time harmonic plane waves by an inhomogeneous medium. These problems can be translated into volume integral equations of the second kind – the most prominent example is the Lippmann–Schwinger integral equation. In this work, we study a particular class of scattering problems where the integral operator in the corresponding operator equation of Lippmann–Schwinger type fails to be compact. Such integral equations typically arise if the modelling of the inhomogeneous medium necessitates space-dependent coefficients in the highest order terms of the underlying partial differential equation. The two examples treated here are acoustic scattering from a medium with a space-dependent material density and electromagnetic medium scattering where both the electric permittivity and the magnetic permeability vary. In these cases, Riesz theory is not applicable for the solution of the arising integral equations of Lippmann–Schwinger type. Therefore, we show that positivity assumptions on the relative material parameters allow to prove positivity of the arising volume potentials in tailor-made weighted spaces of square integrable functions. This result merely holds for imaginary wavenumber and we exploit a compactness argument to conclude that the arising integral equations are of Fredholm type, even if the integral operators themselves are not compact. Finally, we explain how the solution of the integral equations in L 2 affects the notion of a solution of the scattering problem and illustrate why the order of convergence of a Galerkin scheme set up in L 2 does not suffer from our L 2 setting, compared to schemes in higher order Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

The key purpose of the present work is to constitute a numerical scheme based on q‐homotopy analysis transform method to examine the fractional model of regularized long‐wave equation. The regularized long‐wave equation explains the shallow water waves and ion acoustic waves in plasma. The proposed technique is a mixture of q‐homotopy analysis method, Laplace transform, and homotopy polynomials. The convergence analysis of the suggested scheme is verified. The scheme provides and n‐curves, which show that the range convergence of series solution is not a local point effects and elucidate that it is superior to homotopy analysis method and other analytical approaches. In this article, we continue the numerical study of hyperbolic partial differential‐difference equation that was initiated in (Sharma and Singh, Appl Math Comput 9 ). In Sharma and Singh, the authors consider the problem with sufficiently small shift arguments. The term negative shift and positive shift are used for delay and advance arguments, respectively. Here, we propose a numerical scheme that works nicely irrespective of the size of shift arguments. In this article, we consider hyperbolic partial differential‐difference equation with negative or positive shift and present a numerical scheme based on the finite difference method for solving such type of initial and boundary value problems. The proposed numerical scheme is analyzed for stability and convergence in L norm. Finally, some test examples are given to validate convergence, the computational efficiency of the numerical scheme and the effect of shift arguments on the solution.© 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, a fast high order difference scheme is first proposed to solve the time fractional telegraph equation based on the ℱℒ 2-1σ formula for the Caputo fractional derivative, which reduces the storage and computational cost for calculation. A compact scheme is then presented to improve the convergence order in space. The unconditional stability and convergence in maximum norm are proved for both schemes, with the accuracy order and , respectively. Difficulty arising from the two Caputo fractional derivatives is overcome by some detailed analysis. Finally, we carry out numerical experiments to show the efficiency and accuracy, by comparing with the ℒ 2-1σ method.  相似文献
