Recently Dekking and Grimmett have used the theories of branching processes in a random environment and of superbranching processes to find the almostsure box-counting dimension of certain orthogonal projections of random Cantor sets. This note gives a rather shorter and more direct calculation, and also shows that the Hausdorff dimension is almost surely equal to the box-counting dimension. We restrict attention to one-dimensional projections of a plane set—there is no difficulty in extending the proof to higher-dimensional cases.  相似文献

Computing modular coincidences can show whether a given substitution system, which is supported on a point lattice inRd, consists of model sets or not. We prove the computatibility of this problem and determine an upper bound for the number of iterations needed. The main tool is a simple algorithm for computing modular coincidences, which is essentially a generalization of the Dekking coincidence to more than one dimension, and the proof of equivalence of this generalized Dekking coincidence and modular coincidence. As a consequence, we also obtain some conditions for the existence of modular coincidences. In a separate section, and throughout the article, a number of examples are given.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a family of random Cantor sets on the line. We give some sufficient conditions when the Lebesgue measure of the arithmetic difference is positive. Combining this with the main result of a recent joint paper of the second author with M. Dekking we construct random Cantor sets F1, F2 such that the arithmetic difference set F2 − F1 does not contain any intervals but ?eb(F2 − F1)> 0 almost surely, conditioned on non-extinction.  相似文献

An irreducible Pisot substitution defines a graph-directed iterated function system. The invariant sets of this iterated function system are called the atomic surfaces. In this paper, a new tiling of atomic surfaces, which contains Thurston’sβ-tiling as a subclass, is constructed. Related tiling and dynamical properties are studied. Based on the coincidence condition defined by Dekking [Dek], we introduce thesuper-coincidence condition. It is shown that the super-coincidence condition governs the tiling and dynamical properties of atomic surfaces. We conjecture that every Pisot substitution satisfies the super-coincidence condition. In [10], the notion of homogeneous perfect sets as a generalization of Cantor type sets is introduced and their Hausdorff and lower box-counting dimensions are studied. In this paper, we determine their exact packing and upper box-counting dimensions based on the length of their fundamental intervals and the gaps between them. For homogeneous one-dimensional Cantor sets, which are not necessarily self-similar, we show under some restrictions that the Euler exponent equals the quantization dimension of the uniform distribution on these Cantor sets. Moreover for a special sub-class of these sets we present a linkage between the Hausdorff and the Packing measure of these sets and the high-rate asymptotics of the quantization error.  相似文献

The graphs of coordinate functions of space-filling curves such as those described by Peano, Hilbert, Pólya and others, are typical examples of self-affine sets, and their Hausdorff dimensions have been the subject of several articles in the mathematical literature. In the first half of this paper, we describe how the study of dimensions of self-affine sets was motivated, at least in part, by these coordinate functions and their natural generalizations, and review the relevant literature. In the second part, we present new results on the coordinate functions of Pólya's one-parameter family of space-filling curves. We give a lower bound for the Hausdorff dimension of their graphs which is fairly close to the box-counting dimension. Our techniques are largely probabilistic. The fact that the exact dimension remains elusive seems to indicate the need for further work in the area of self-affine sets.  相似文献

A self-similar Cantor set is completely decomposed as a class of the lower (upper) distribution sets. We give a relationship between the distribution sets in the distribution class and the subsets in a spectral class generated by the lower (upper) local dimensions of a self-similar measure. In particular, we show that each subset of a spectral class is exactly a distribution set having full measure of a self-similar measure related to the distribution set using the strong law of large numbers. This gives essential information of its Hausdorff and packing dimensions. In fact, the spectral class by the lower (upper) local dimensions of every self-similar measure, except for a singular one, is characterized by the lower or upper distribution class. Let {X(t), 0t1} be a stochastic process whose range is a random Cantor-like set depending on an -sequence (0<<1) and μ is the occupation measure of X(t). In this paper we examine the multifractal structure of μ and obtain the fractal dimensions of the sets of points of where the local dimension of μ is different from . It is interesting to notice that the final results of this paper are identical to those for the occupation measure of a stable subordinator with index , yet the stochastic process under consideration in this work is not even a Markov process.  相似文献

The distributional dimension of fractal sets in R^n has been systematically studied by Triebel by virtue of the theory of function spaces. In this paper, we first discuss some important properties about the B-type spaces and the F-type spaces on local fields, then we give the definition of the distributional dimension dimD in local fields and study the relations between distributional dimension and Hausdorff dimension. Moreover, the analysis expression of the Hausdorff dimension is given. Lastly, we define the Fourier dimension in local fields, and obtain the relations among all the three dimensions. The dimension theory of self-similar sets is quite well understood in the cases when some separation conditions (open set condition or weak separation condition) or the so-called transversality condition hold. Otherwise the study of the Hausdorff dimension is far from well understood. We investigate the properties of the Hausdorff dimension of self-similar sets such that some functions in the corresponding iterated function system share the same fixed point. Then it is not possible to apply directly known techniques. In this paper we are going to calculate the Hausdorff dimension for almost all contracting parameters and calculate the proper dimensional Hausdorff measure of the attractor.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the modified box dimensions of cut-out sets that belong to a positive, nonincreasing and summable sequence. Noting that the family of such sets is a compact metric space under the Hausdorff metric, we prove that the lower modified box dimension equals zero and the upper modified box dimension equals the upper box dimension for almost all cut-out set in the sense of Baire category.  相似文献
