In this paper, we will study the lower bounds of the life span (the maximal existence time) of solutions to the initial‐boundary value problems with small initial data and zero Neumann boundary data on exterior domain for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations utt?uxx=b(u,Du)uxx+F(u,Du). Our lower bounds of the life span of solutions in the general case and special case are shorter than that of the initial‐Dirichlet boundary value problem for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations. We clarify that although the lower bounds in this paper are same as that in the case of Robin boundary conditions obtained in the earlier paper, however, the results in this paper are not the trivial generalization of that in the case of Robin boundary conditions because the fundamental Lemmas 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7, that is, the priori estimates of solutions to initial‐boundary value problems with Neumann boundary conditions, are established differently, and then the specific estimates in this paper are different from that in the case of Robin boundary conditions. Another motivation for the author to write this paper is to show that the well‐posedness of problem 1.1 is the essential precondition of studying the lower bounds of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems for general quasilinear wave equations. The lower bound estimates of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems is consistent with the actual physical meaning. Finally, we obtain the sharpness on the lower bound of the life span 1.8 in the general case and 1.10 in the special case. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A comparison principle for solutions of the first initial boundary value problem for the generalized Boussinesque equation with a nonlinear sourceu t-Δψ(u)-Δu t+q(u)=0 is established. By using this comparison principle, we prove new existence and nonexistence theorems for solutions of the first initial boundary value problem in the case of power-law functions ψ (ξ) andq (ξ). The boundary value problem Δu + λeu = 0 where u = 0 on the boundary is often referred to as “the Bratu problem.” The Bratu problem with cylindrical radial operators, also known as the cylindrical Bratu‐Gelfand problem, is considered here. It is a nonlinear eigenvalue problem with two known bifurcated solutions for λ < λc, no solutions for λ > λc and a unique solution when λ = λc. Numerical solutions to the Bratu‐Gelfand problem at the critical value of λc = 2 are computed using nonstandard finite‐difference schemes known as Mickens finite differences. Comparison of numerical results obtained by solving the Bratu‐Gelfand problem using a Mickens discretization with results obtained using standard finite differences for λ < 2 are given, which illustrate the superiority of the nonstandard scheme. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The boundary value problemc t=c xxc yy+q(t,x)c with {fx349-1} was solved by Colton [1] forq analytic int. The solution may be used for mapping solutions of the heat equation into solutions ofu t=u xx+q(t,x)u. Solutions (of the boundary value problem) no longer exist ifq is not analytic int. The initial-boundary value problem in a semi-infinite strip (0, ∞)×(0, T) for a degenerate parabolic equation of the form u, t= φ(u)xx + b(x)φ(u)x is considered. The properties of solutions in the case where the initial function is compactly supported and for constant initial and boundary data are investigated.  相似文献

We point out a mistake in [1] in the proof of infinite propagation of the weak solution of Cauchy problem for the equationu t =(A(u)) xx - (u). A more natural condition is given and the infinite propagation property for boundary value problem is studied. Finally, we discuss the supports of the weak solutions.  相似文献

In the first part of the paper we establish the existence of a boundary trace for positive solutions of the equation ?Δu + g(x, u) = 0 in a smooth domain Ω ? ?N, for a general class of positive nonlinearities. This class includes every space independent, monotone increasing g which satisfies the Keller‐Osserman condition as well as degenerate nonlinearities gα,q of the form gα,q (x, u) = d(x, ?Ω)α |u|q?1 u, with α > ?2 and q > 1. The boundary trace is given by a positive regular Borel measure which may blow up on compact sets. In the second part we concentrate on the family of nonlinearities {gα,q}, determine the critical value of the exponent q (for fixed α > ?2) and discuss (a) positive solutions with an isolated singularity, for subcritical nonlinearities and (b) the boundary value problem for ?Δu + gα,q (x, u) = 0 with boundary data given by a positive regular Borel measure (possibly unbounded). We show that, in the subcritical case, the problem possesses a unique solution for every such measure. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A numerical method for computing all solutions of an elliptic boundary value problem Au + g[u, λ] = 0 and their Morse indices as steady‐states of the parabolic problem ut + Au + g[u, λ] = 0 is presented. Morse decompositions are also determined. The method uses a finite element approach that is based on the method of alternative problems. Error estimates for the finite element approximations are verified and examples are given. © John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 17: 290–312, 2001  相似文献

In this paper we study thedegenerate mixed boundary value problem:Pu=f in Ω,B u =gon Ω∂Г where ω is a domain in ℝ n ,P is a second order linear elliptic operator with real coefficients, Γ⊆∂Ω is a relatively closed set, andB is an oblique boundary operator defined only on ∂Ω/Γ which is assumed to be a smooth part of the boundary. The aim of this research is to establish some basic results concerning positive solutions. In particular, we study the solvability of the above boundary value problem in the class of nonnegative functions, and properties of the generalized principal eigenvalue, the ground state, and the Green function associated with this problem. The notion of criticality and subcriticality for this problem is introduced, and a criticality theory for this problem is established. The analogs for the generalized Dirichlet boundary value problem, where Γ=∂Ω, were examined intensively by many authors.  相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear third-order differential equation (uxx ? u)t + u xxx + uux = 0 describing the processes in semiconductors with a strong spatial dispersion. We study the problem of the existence of global solutions and obtain sufficient conditions for the absence of global solutions for some initial boundary value problems corresponding to this equation. We consider examples of solution blowup for initial boundary value and Cauchy problems. We use the Mitidieri-Pokhozhaev nonlinear capacity method.  相似文献

In this paper we study some asymptotic profiles of shape functions of self-similar solutions to the initial-boundary value problem with Neumann boundary condition for the generalized KPZ equation: ut=uxx−|ux|q, where q is positive number. The shapes of solutions of the corresponding nonlinear ordinary differential equation are of very different nature. The properties depend on the critical value and initial data as usual.  相似文献

We consider an initial-boundary value problem for the non-linear evolution equation in a cylinder Qt = Ω × (0, t), where T[u] = yuxx + uyy is the Tricomi operator and l(u) a special differential operator of first order. In [10] we proved the existence of a generalized solution of problem (1) and the existence of a generalized solution of the corresponding stationary boundary value problem (non-linear Tricomi problem) In this paper we give sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of these solutions.  相似文献

In this paper we study the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions for nonhomogeneous Neumann boundary value problem of the type
where Ω is a bounded domain in with smooth boundary, 1<p<n,Δpu=div(|u|p-2u) is the p-Laplacian operator, , , (x)0 and λ is a real parameter. The proofs of our main results rely on different methods: lower and upper solutions and variational approach.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the limit in L 1(Ω), as t → ∞, of solutions of initial-boundary-value problems of the form ut ? Δw = 0 and u ∈ β(w) in a bounded domain Ω with general boundary conditions ?w/?η + γ(w) ? 0. We prove that a solution stabilizes by converging as t → ∞ to a solution of the associated stationary problem. On the other hand, since in general these solutions are not unique, we characterize the true value of the limit and comment the results on the related concrete situations like the Stefan problem and the filtration equation.  相似文献

We consider boundary value problems for the differential equations Δ2 u + B u = 0 with operator coefficients B corresponding to initial-boundary value problems for the diffusion equation Δ3 upu = t u (p > 0) on a right cylinder with inhomogeneous boundary conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder with zero boundary conditions on the bases of the cylinder and with zero initial condition. For their solution, we derive specific boundary integral equations in which the space integration is performed only over the lateral surface of the cylinder and the kernels are expressed via the fundamental solution of the two-dimensional heat equation and the Green function of corresponding one-dimensional initial-boundary value problems of diffusion. We prove uniqueness theorems and obtain sufficient existence conditions for such solutions in the class of functions with continuous L 2-norm.  相似文献

Summary By the so-called longitudinal method of lines the first boundary value problem for a parabolic differential equation is transformed into an initial value problem for a system of ordinary differential equations. In this paper, for a wide class of nonlinear parabolic differential equations the spatial derivatives occuring in the original problem are replaced by suitable differences such that monotonicity methods become applicable. A convergence theorem is proved. Special interest is devoted to the equationu t=f(x,t,u,u x,u xx), if the matrix of first order derivatives off(x,t,z,p,r) with respect tor may be estimated by a suitable Minkowski matrix.  相似文献

We consider an inverse problem for the determination of a purely time-dependent source in a semilinear parabolic equation with a nonlocal boundary condition. An approximation scheme for the solution together with the well-posedness of the problem with the initial value u0H1(Ω) is presented by means of the Rothe time-discretization method. Further approximation scheme via Rothe’s method is constructed for the problem when u0L2(Ω) and the integral kernel in the nonlocal boundary condition is symmetric.
