A reaction-diffusion model is presented to describe the microbial continuous culture with diversified growth. The existence of nonnegative solutions and attractors for the system is obtained, the stability of steady states and the steady state bifurcation are studied under three growth conditions. In the case of no growth inhibition or only product inhibition, the system admits one positive constant steady state which is stable; in the case of growth inhibition only by substrate, the system can have two positive constant steady states, explicit conditions of the stability and the steady state bifurcation are also determined. In addition, numerical simulations are given to exhibit the theoretical results.  相似文献

Long time dynamics of solutions to a strongly coupled system of parabolic equations modeling the competition in bio-reactors with chemotaxis will be studied. In particular, we show that the dynamical system possesses a global attractor and that it is strongly uniformly persistent if the trivial steady state is unstable. Using a result of Smith and Waltman on perturbation of global attractors, we also show that the positive steady state is unique and globally attracting.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the asymptotic behaviour of a class of doubly nonlinear parabolic-type equations. For degenerate equations, we prove thanks to the Lojasiewicz inequality that the solutions to some nonautonomous equations converge to a steady state. In the nondegenerate case, the existence of exponential attractors is shown by using the ?-trajectories method.  相似文献

This paper considers how the Moving Finite Element (MFE) methodapproxim ates the steady and large time solutions of a familyof linear diffusion equations in one space dimension. In particular,it is shown that any steady solution to the Moving Finite Elementequations must satisfy the stationary equations for a best approximationto the steady solution of the PDE from the manifold of free-knotlinear splines, in some problem dependent norm. For the special case of the inhomogeneous linear heat equationit is also shown that, under certain conditions, the only steadyMFE solution is the unique global best fit to the true steadysolution, in the H1 semi-norm. It is also demonstrated numericallythat these steady solutions are stable attractors. Finally,a numerical study of the large time solutions of the homogeneouslinear heat equation is undertaken and it is demonstrated thatthe MFE solutions appear to possess a rather novel temporalaccuracy property.  相似文献

We study the effects of dispersion on the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (KS) equation. In the physical problem considered, there is a full dispersion relation corresponding to a pseudo-differential linear operator added to the KS equation. The long wave limit of this term localizes to a KortwegdeVries dispersion and we present results from extensive numerical experiments that compare the long time evolution of the global and local systems. It is found that solutions are almost identical in both fixed point (steady traveling waves) and time periodic attractors.  相似文献

This article is devoted to the study of the Caginalp phase field system with dynamic boundary conditions and singular potentials. We first show that, for initial data in H 2, the solutions are strictly separated from the singularities of the potential. This turns out to be our main argument in the proof of the existence and uniqueness of solutions. We then prove the existence of global attractors. In the last part of the article, we adapt well-known results concerning the Lojasiewicz inequality in order to prove the convergence of solutions to steady states.   相似文献

We prove the existence of weak solutions for a phase-field model with three coupled equations with unknown uniqueness, and state several dynamical systems depending on the regularity of the initial data. Then, the existence of families of global attractors (level-set depending) for the corresponding multi-valued semiflows is established, applying an energy method. Finally, using the regularizing effect of the problem, we prove that these attractors are in fact the same.  相似文献

This paper investigates the steady state bifurcation of a periodically excited system subject to time-delayed feedback controls by the combined method of residue harmonic balance and polynomial homotopy continuation. Three kinds of delayed feedback controls are considered to examine the effects of different delayed feedback controls and delay time on the steady state response. By means of polynomial homotopy continuation, all the possible steady state solutions corresponding the third-order superharmonic and second-subharmonic responses are derived analytically, i.e. without numerical integration. It is found that the delayed feedback changes the bifurcating curves qualitatively and possibly eliminates the saddle-node bifurcation during resonant. The delayed position-velocity coupling and the delayed velocity feedback controls can destabilize the steady state responses. Coexisting periodic solutions, period-doubling bifurcation and even chaos are found in these control systems. The neighborhood of the periodic solutions is verified numerically in the phase portraits. The various effects of time delay on the steady state response are investigated. Many new phenomena are observed.  相似文献

Ordinary differential equations are used frequently by theoreticians to model kinetic process in chemistry and biology. These systems can have stable and unstable steady states and oscillations. This paper presents an algorithm to find all steady state solutions to a restricted class of ODE models, for which the right-hand sides are linear combinations of rational functions of variables and parameters. The algorithm converts the steady state equations into a system of polynomial equations and uses a globally convergent homotopy method to find all the roots of the system of polynomials. All steady state solutions of the original ODEs are guaranteed to be present as roots of the polynomial equations. The conversion may generate some spurious roots that do not correspond to steady state solutions. The stability properties of the steady states are not revealed. This paper explains the algorithms used and gives results for a cell cycle modeling problem.  相似文献

We prove the non-existence of non-constant positive steady state solutions of two reaction-diffusion predator-prey models with Holling type-II functional response when the interaction between the predator and the prey is strong. We investigate the multiplicity of positive steady state solutions to the unstirred chemostat model with general response functions. It turns out that all positive steady state solutions to this model lie on a single smooth solution curve, whose properties determine the multiplicity of positive steady state solutions. The key point of our analysis is to study the “turning points” on this positive steady state solution curve, and to prove that any nontrivial solution to the associated linearized problem is one of sign by constructing a suitable test function. The main tools used here include bifurcation theory, monotone method, mountain passing lemma and Sturm comparison theorem.  相似文献

The bifurcation of non-trivial steady state solutions of a scalar reaction–diffusion equation with nonlinear boundary conditions is considered using several new abstract bifurcation theorems. The existence and stability of positive steady state solutions are proved using a unified approach. The general results are applied to a Laplace equation with nonlinear boundary condition and bistable nonlinearity, and an elliptic equation with superlinear nonlinearity and sublinear boundary conditions.  相似文献

We study the local exact controllability of the steady state solutions of the magnetohydrodynamic equations. The main result of the paper asserts that the steady state solutions of these equations are locally controllable if they are smooth enough. We reduce the local exact controllability of the steady state solutions of the magnetohydrodynamic equations to the global exact controllability of the null solution of the linearized magnetohydrodynamic system via a fixed‐point argument. Nonexistence and existence of nontrivial steady state solutions are shown by using energy estimates, upper–lower solution method, and bifurcation theory. The qualitative dynamics of weak solutions to a nonautonomous model of polymer solution motion (with a rheological relation satisfying the objectivity principle) is studied using the theory of pullback attractors of trajectory spaces. This paper is concerned with the existence of travelling waves to an SIRS epidemic model with bilinear incidence rate, spatial diffusion and time delay. By analysing the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability of a disease-free steady state and an endemic steady state to this system under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions is discussed. By using the cross iteration method and the Schauder’s fixed point theorem, we reduce the existence of travelling waves to the existence of a pair of upper-lower solutions. By constructing a pair of upper-lower solutions, we derive the existence of a travelling wave solution connecting the disease-free steady state and the endemic steady state. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the main results.  相似文献
