We construct a totally disconnected ω*, norming subsetF of the unit ballB * of an arbitrary separable Banach space,X, and an operator fromC(F) toC(B*) that “amost” commutes with the natural embeddings ofX. This is used to give a new proof of Milutin's theorem and to prove some new results on complemented subspaces ofC[0, 1] with separable dual. In particular we show that a complemented subspace ofCω), is either isomorphic toCω) or toc u.  相似文献

We construct, under MA, a non-Hausdorff (T1-)topological extension *ω of ω, such that every function from ω to ω extends uniquely to a continuous function from *ω to *ω. We also show (in ZFC) that for every nontrivial topological extension *X of a countable set X there exists a topology τf on *X, strictly finer than the Star topology, and such that (*X, τf) is still a topological extension of X with the same function extensions *f. This solves two questions raised by M. Di Nasso and M. Forti.  相似文献

Let ? be the genealogical tree of a supercritical multitype Galton–Watson process, and let Λ be the limit set of ?, i.e., the set of all infinite self-avoiding paths (called ends) through ? that begin at a vertex of the first generation. The limit set Λ is endowed with the metric d(ζ, ξ) = 2 −n where n = n(ζ, ξ) is the index of the first generation where ζ and ξ differ. To each end ζ is associated the infinite sequence Φ(ζ) of types of the vertices of ζ. Let Ω be the space of all such sequences. For any ergodic, shift-invariant probability measure μ on Ω, define Ωμ to be the set of all μ-generic sequences, i.e., the set of all sequences ω such that each finite sequence v occurs in ω with limiting frequency μ(Ω(v)), where Ω(v) is the set of all ω′?Ω that begin with the word v. Then the Hausdorff dimension of Λ∩Φ−1μ) in the metric d is
almost surely on the event of nonextinction, where h(μ) is the entropy of the measure μ and q(i, j) is the mean number of type-j offspring of a type-i individual. This extends a theorem of HAWKES [5], which shows that the Hausdorff dimension of the entire boundary at infinity is log2 α, where α is the Malthusian parameter. Consider the Cauchy problem ∂u(x, t)/∂t = ℋu(x, t) (x∈ℤd, t≥ 0) with initial condition u(x, 0) ≡ 1 and with ℋ the Anderson Hamiltonian ℋ = κΔ + ξ. Here Δ is the discrete Laplacian, κ∈ (0, ∞) is a diffusion constant, and ξ = {ξ(x): x∈ℤ d } is an i.i.d.random field taking values in ℝ. G?rtner and Molchanov (1990) have shown that if the law of ξ(0) is nondegenerate, then the solution u is asymptotically intermittent. In the present paper we study the structure of the intermittent peaks for the special case where the law of ξ(0) is (in the vicinity of) the double exponential Prob(ξ(0) > s) = exp[−e s ] (s∈ℝ). Here θ∈ (0, ∞) is a parameter that can be thought of as measuring the degree of disorder in the ξ-field. Our main result is that, for fixed x, y∈ℤ d and t→∈, the correlation coefficient of u(x, t) and u(y, t) converges to ∥w ρ−2 ℓ2Σz ∈ℤd w ρ(x+z)w ρ(y+z). In this expression, ρ = θ/κ while w ρ:ℤd→ℝ+ is given by w ρ = (v ρ) d with v ρ: ℤ→ℝ+ the unique centered ground state (i.e., the solution in ℓ2(ℤ) with minimal l 2-norm) of the 1-dimensional nonlinear equation Δv + 2ρv log v = 0. The uniqueness of the ground state is actually proved only for large ρ, but is conjectured to hold for any ρ∈ (0, ∞). empty It turns out that if the right tail of the law of ξ(0) is thicker (or thinner) than the double exponential, then the correlation coefficient of u(x, t) and u(y, t) converges to δ x, y (resp.the constant function 1). Thus, the double exponential family is the critical class exhibiting a nondegenerate correlation structure. Received: 5 March 1997 / Revised version: 21 September 1998  相似文献

For a strongly connected digraph D the minimum ,cardinality of an arc-cut over all arc-cuts restricted arc-connectivity λ′(D) is defined as the S satisfying that D - S has a non-trivial strong component D1 such that D - V(D1) contains an arc. Let S be a subset of vertices of D. We denote by w+(S) the set of arcs uv with u ∈ S and v S, and by w-(S) the set of arcs uv with u S and v ∈ S. A digraph D = (V, A) is said to be λ′-optimal if λ′(D) =ξ′(D), where ξ′(D) is the minimum arc-degree of D defined as ξ(D) = min {ξ′(xy) : xy ∈ A}, and ξ′(xy) = min(|ω+({x,y})|, |w-({x,y})|, |w+(x) ∪ w- (y) |, |w- (x) ∪ω+ (y)|}. In this paper a sufficient condition for a s-geodetic strongly connected digraph D to be λ′-optimal is given in terms of its diameter. Furthermore we see that the h-iterated line digraph Lh(D) of a s-geodetic digraph is λ′-optimal for certain iteration h.  相似文献

In a previous paper (Israel J. Math.28 (1977), 313–324), it was shown that for a certain class of cardinals τ,l 1(τ) embeds in a Banach spaceX if and only ifL 1([0, 1]τ) embeds inX *. An extension (to a rather wider class of cardinals) of the basic lemma of that paper is here applied so as to yield an affirmative answer to a question posed by Rosenthal concerning dual ℒ1-spaces. It is shown that ifZ * is a dual Banach space, isomorphic to a complemented subspace of anL 1-space, and κ is the density character ofZ *, thenl 1(κ) embeds inZ *. A corollary of this result is that every injective bidual Banach space is isomorphic tol (κ) for some κ. The second part of this article is devoted to an example, constructed using the continuum hypothesis, of a compact spaceS which carries a homogeneous measure of type ω1, but which is such thatl 11) does not embed in ℰ(S). This shows that the main theorem of the already mentioned paper is not valid in the case τ = ω1. The dual space ℰ(S)* is isometric to , and is a member of a new isomorphism class of dualL 1-spaces.  相似文献

We say that n independent trajectories ξ1(t),…,ξ n (t) of a stochastic process ξ(t)on a metric space are asymptotically separated if, for some ɛ > 0, the distance between ξ i (t i ) and ξ j (t j ) is at least ɛ, for some indices i, j and for all large enough t 1,…,t n , with probability 1. We prove sufficient conitions for asymptotic separationin terms of the Green function and the transition function, for a wide class of Markov processes. In particular,if ξ is the diffusion on a Riemannian manifold generated by the Laplace operator Δ, and the heat kernel p(t, x, y) satisfies the inequality p(t, x, x) ≤ Ct −ν/2 then n trajectories of ξ are asymptotically separated provided . Moreover, if for some α∈(0, 2)then n trajectories of ξ(α) are asymptotically separated, where ξ(α) is the α-process generated by −(−Δ)α/2. Let S be a set of n points in \re d . The ``roundness' of S can be measured by computing the width ω * * (S) of the thinnest spherical shell (or annulus in \re 2 ) that contains S . This paper contains two main results related to computing an approximation of ω * : (i) For d=2 , we can compute in O(n log n) time an annulus containing S whose width is at most * (S) . We extend this algorithm, so that, for any given parameter ε >0 , an annulus containing S whose width is at most (1+ε )ω * is computed in time O(n log n + n/ε 2 ) . (ii) For d \geq 3 , given a parameter ε > 0 , we can compute a shell containing S of width at most (1+ε)ω * either in time O ( n / ε d ) log ( \Delata / ω * ε ) or in time O ( n / ε d-2 ) log n + 1 / εlog \Delata / ω * ε , where Δ is the diameter of S . SoitM(Ω, η, ξ,g) une variété à (2m+1)-dimensions presque cosymplectique (i. e.

Let ξ be a real-valued random variable of mean zero and variance 1. Let M n (ξ) denote the n × n random matrix whose entries are iid copies of ξ and σ n (M n (ξ)) denote the least singular value of M n (ξ). The quantity σ n (M n (ξ))2 is thus the least eigenvalue of the Wishart matrix MnMn*{M_nM_n^\ast}.  相似文献

Let $ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} be a locally compact semigroup, ω be a weight function on $ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , and M a ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω) be the weighted semigroup algebra of $ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} . Let L 0 ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} ; M a ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω)) be the C*-algebra of all M a ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω)-measurable functions g on $ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} such that g/ω vanishes at infinity. We introduce and study a strict topology β 1($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω) on M a ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω) and show that the Banach space L 0 ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} ; M a ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω)) can be identified with the dual of M a ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω) endowed with β 1($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω). We finally investigate some properties of the locally convex topology β 1($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω) on M a ($ \mathfrak{S} $ \mathfrak{S} , ω).  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group with a weight function ω. Recently, we have shown that the Banach space L0 (G,1/ω) can be identified with the strong dual of L1(G, ω)equipped with some locally convex topologies τ. Here we use this duality to introduce an Arens multiplication on (L1(G, ω), τ)**, and prove that the topological center of (L1(G, ω), τ)** is (L1(G, ω); this enables us to conclude that (L1(G, ω), τ) is Arens regular if and only if G is discrete. We also give a characterization for Arens regularity of L0 (G, 1/ω)1. Received: 8 March 2005  相似文献

Let ω(G) be the clique number of a graph G. We prove that if G runs over the set of graphs with a fixed degree sequence d, then the values ω(G) completely cover a line segment [a,b] of positive integers. For an arbitrary graphic degree sequence d, we define min(ω,d) and max(ω,d) as follows:
where is the graph of realizations of d. Thus the two invariants a:=min(ω,d) and b:=max(ω,d) naturally arise. For a graphic degree sequence d=r n :=(r,r,…,r) where r is the vertex degree and n is the number of vertices, the exact values of a and b are found in all situations. Since the independence number, α(G)=ω(Gˉ), we obtain parallel results for the independence number of graphs. In this paper we investigate Riesz transforms R μ (k) of order k≥1 related to the Bessel operator Δμ f(x)=-f”(x)-((2μ+1)/x)f’(x) and extend the results of Muckenhoupt and Stein for the conjugate Hankel transform (a Riesz transform of order one). We obtain that for every k≥1, R μ (k) is a principal value operator of strong type (p,p), p∈(1,∞), and weak type (1,1) with respect to the measure dλ(x)=x 2μ+1dx in (0,∞). We also characterize the class of weights ω on (0,∞) for which R μ (k) maps L p (ω) into itself and L 1(ω) into L 1,∞(ω) boundedly. This class of weights is wider than the Muckenhoupt class of weights for the doubling measure dλ. These weighted results extend the ones obtained by Andersen and Kerman.  相似文献

In this paper we study central extensions of the identity component G of the Lie group C (M,K) of smooth maps from a compact manifold M into a Lie group K which might be infinite-dimensional. We restrict our attention to Lie algebra cocycles of the form ω(ξ,η)=[κ(ξ,dη)], where κ:𝔨×𝔨→Y is a symmetric invariant bilinear map on the Lie algebra 𝔨 of K and the values of ω lie in Ω1(M,Y)/dC (M,Y). For such cocycles we show that a corresponding central Lie group extension exists if and only if this is the case for M=𝕊1. If K is finite-dimensional semisimple, this implies the existence of a universal central Lie group extension of G. The groups Diff(M) and C (M,K) act naturally on G by automorphisms. We also show that these smooth actions can be lifted to smooth actions on the central extension if it also is a central extension of the universal covering group of G.
