In this note we discuss the effect of the -nullification and the -cellularization over classifying spaces of finite groups, and we relate them with the corresponding functors with respect to Moore spaces that have been intensively studied in the last years. We describe by means of a covering fibration, and we classify all finite groups for which is -cellular. We also carefully study the analogous functors in the category of groups, and their relationship with the fundamental groups of and

In this paper we compute homotopical equivariant bordism for the group , namely , geometric equivariant bordism , and their quotient as modules over geometric bordism. This quotient is a module of stable transversality obstructions. We construct these rings from knowledge of their localizations.

In this paper we study the groups whose integral group rings have hyperbolic unit groups . We classify completely the torsion subgroups of and the polycyclic-by-finite subgroups of the group . Finally, we classify the groups for which the boundary of has dimension zero.

We discuss Morita equivalence within the family 0, \mu,\nu\in\mathbb{R}\}$"> of quantum Heisenberg manifolds. Morita equivalence classes are described in terms of the parameters , and the rank of the free abelian group associated to the -algebra .

     

Stability of wavelet frames with matrix dilations

Under certain assumptions we show that a wavelet frame

in remains a frame when the dilation matrices and the translation parameters are perturbed. As a special case of our result, we obtain that if is a frame for an expansive matrix and an invertible matrix , then is a frame if and for sufficiently small 0$">.

     

Branch structure of -holomorphic curves near periodic orbits of a contact manifold

Let be a three-dimensional contact manifold, and a finite-energy pseudoholomorphic map from the punctured disc in that is asymptotic to a periodic orbit of the contact form. This article examines conditions under which smooth coordinates may be defined in a tubular neighbourhood of the orbit such that resembles a holomorphic curve, invoking comparison with the theory of topological linking of plane complex algebroid curves near a singular point. Examples of this behaviour, which are studied in some detail, include pseudoholomorphic maps into , where denotes a rational ellipsoid (contact structure induced by the standard complex structure on ), as well as contact structures arising from non-standard circle-fibrations of the three-sphere.

     

New irrationality measures for -logarithms

On a desingularization of the moduli space of noncommutative tori

It is shown that the moduli space of the noncommutative tori admits a natural desingularization by the group . Namely, we prove that the moduli space of pairs is homeomorphic to a punctured two-dimensional sphere. The proof is based on a correspondence (a covariant functor) between the complex and noncommutative tori.

     

Estimates of Gromov's box distance

In 1999, M. Gromov introduced the box distance function on the space of all mm-spaces. In this paper, by using the method of T. H. Colding, we estimate and , where is the -dimensional unit sphere in and is the -dimensional complex projective space equipped with the Fubini-Study metric. In particular, we give the complete answer to an exercise of Gromov's green book. We also estimate from below, where is the special orthogonal group.

     

Spherical classes and the Lambda algebra

Let be Singer's invariant-theoretic model of the dual of the lambda algebra with , where denotes the mod 2 Steenrod algebra. We prove that the inclusion of the Dickson algebra, , into is a chain-level representation of the Lannes-Zarati dual homomorphism

The Lannes-Zarati homomorphisms themselves, , correspond to an associated graded of the Hurewicz map

Based on this result, we discuss some algebraic versions of the classical conjecture on spherical classes, which states that Only Hopf invariant one and Kervaire invariant one classes are detected by the Hurewicz homomorphism. One of these algebraic conjectures predicts that every Dickson element, i.e. element in , of positive degree represents the homology class in for 2$">.

We also show that factors through , where denotes the differential of . Therefore, the problem of determining should be of interest.

We establish a homeomorphism between the moduli space of ordered -tuples of 2-dimensional linear subspaces (mod ) and the quotient by simultaneous conjugation of a certain open subset . For , this leads to an explicit computation of the moduli space of central 2-arrangements in mod and its subspace of those classes that contain a complex hyperplane arrangement.

     

Topology of spaces of equivariant symplectic embeddings

We compute the homotopy type of the space of -equivariant symplectic embeddings from the standard -dimensional ball of some fixed radius into a -dimensional symplectic-toric manifold , and use this computation to define a -valued step function on which is an invariant of the symplectic-toric type of . We conclude with a discussion of the partially equivariant case of this result.

     

A formula for -hyponormality of backstep extensions of subnormal weighted shifts

Let be a weight sequence of positive real numbers and let be a subnormal weighted shift with a weight sequence . Consider an extended weight sequence with and let 0: W_{\alpha (x)} \text{is} k \text{-hyponormal}\}$">for , where is the set of natural numbers. We obtain a formula to find the interval , which provides several examples to distinguish the classes of -hyponormal operators from one another.

     

Specker's theorem for Nöbeling's group

Specker proved that the group of integer-valued sequences is far from free; all its homomorphisms to factor through finite subproducts. Nöbeling proved that the subgroup consisting of the bounded sequences is free and therefore has many homomorphisms to . We prove that all ``reasonable' homomorphisms factor through finite subproducts. Among the reasonable homomorphisms are all those that are Borel with respect to a natural topology on . In the absence of the axiom of choice, it is consistent that all homomorphisms are reasonable and therefore that Specker's theorem applies to as well as to .

     

Uniformly bounded limit of fractional homomorphisms

We show that a bounded homomorphism is equivalent to a uniformly bounded family of fractional homomorphisms for any 0$">. We add this characterization to the Widder-Arendt-Kisynski theorem and relate it to -times integrated semigroups.

     

A linear function associated to asymptotic prime divisors

Let be a Noetherian standard -graded ring and finitely generated, -graded -modules. Let be finitely many homogeneous ideals of . We show that there exist linear functions such that the associated primes over of and are stable whenever satisfies and , respectively.

     

Segal-Bargmann transforms of one-mode interacting Fock spaces associated with Gaussian and Poisson measures

Let and denote the Gaussian and Poisson measures on , respectively. We show that there exists a unique measure on such that under the Segal-Bargmann transform the space is isomorphic to the space of analytic -functions on with respect to . We also introduce the Segal-Bargmann transform for the Poisson measure and prove the corresponding result. As a consequence, when and have the same variance, and are isomorphic to the same space under the - and -transforms, respectively. However, we show that the multiplication operators by on and on act quite differently on .
