A singularly perturbed initial boundary value problem is considered for a parabolic equation that is known in application as the reaction-diffusion-advection equation. An asymptotic expansion of solutions with a moving front is constructed. This asymptotics is proved by the method of differential inequalities, which is based on well-known comparison theorems and develops the ideas of formal asymptotics for constructing upper and lower solutions in singularly perturbed problems with internal and boundary layers.  相似文献

The nonlinear nonlocal singularly perturbed initial boundary value problems for reaction diffusion equations with a boundary perturbation is considered. Under suitable conditions, the outer solution of the original problem is obtained. Using the stretched variable, the composing expansion method and the expanding theory of power series the initial layer is constructed. And then using the theory of differential inequalities the asymptotic behavior of solution for the initial boundary value problems is studied. Finally the existence and uniqueness of solution for the original problem and the uniformly valid asymptotic estimation are discussed.  相似文献

In this letter, a new numerical method is proposed for solving second order linear singularly perturbed boundary value problems with left layers. Firstly a piecewise reproducing kernel method is proposed for second order linear singularly perturbed initial value problems. By combining the method and the shooting method, an effective numerical method is then proposed for solving second order linear singularly perturbed boundary value problems. Two numerical examples are used to show the effectiveness of the present method.  相似文献

We develop a numerical technique for a class of singularly perturbed two-point singular boundary value problems on an uniform mesh using polynomial cubic spline. The scheme derived in this paper is second-order accurate. The resulting linear system of equations has been solved by using a tri-diagonal solver. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the proposed method and to compared with the methods in [R.K. The asymptotic expansion is substantiated using the asymptotic method of differential inequalities, which is extended to the class of problems under study. In this paper, we show differentiability of solutions with respect to the given boundary value data for nonlinear singularly perturbed boundary value problems and its corresponding asymptotic expansion of small parameter. This result fills the gap caused by the solvability condition in Esipova’s result so as to lay a rigorous foundation for the theory of boundary function method on which a guideline is provided as to how to apply this theory to the other forms of singularly perturbed nonlinear boundary value problems and enlarge considerably the scope of applicability and validity of the boundary function method. A third-order singularly perturbed boundary value problem arising in the theory of thin film flows is revisited to illustrate the theory of this paper. Compared to the original result, the imposed potential condition is completely removed by the boundary function method to obtain a better result. Moreover, an improper assumption on the reduced problem has been corrected.  相似文献

We consider a Dirichlet boundary value problem for a class of singularly perturbed semilinear reaction-diffusion equations. A  B-spline collocation method on a piecewise-uniform Shishkin mesh is developed to solve such problems numerically. The convergence analysis is given and the method is shown to be almost second-order convergent, uniformly with respect to the perturbation parameter ε in the maximum norm. Numerical results are presented to validate the theoretical results.  相似文献

We consider a class of singularly perturbed elliptic problems posed on a unit square. These problems are solved by using fitted mesh methods by many researchers but no attempts are made to solve them using fitted operator methods, except our recent work on reaction–diffusion problems [J.B. Munyakazi and K.C. Patidar, Higher order numerical methods for singularly perturbed elliptic problems, Neural Parallel Sci. Comput. 18(1) (2010), pp. 75–88]. In this paper, we design two fitted operator finite difference methods (FOFDMs) for singularly perturbed convection–diffusion problems which possess solutions with exponential and parabolic boundary layers, respectively. We observe that both of these FOFDMs are ?-uniformly convergent. This fact contradicts the claim about singularly perturbed convection–diffusion problems [Miller et al. Fitted Numerical Methods for Singular Perturbation Problems, World Scientific, Singapore, 1996] that ‘when parabolic boundary layers are present, …, it is not possible to design an ?-uniform FOFDM if the mesh is restricted to being a uniform mesh’. We confirm our theoretical findings through computational investigations and also found that we obtain better results than those of Linß and Stynes [Appl. Numer. A class of singularly perturbed nonlinear integro-differential problems with solutions involving internal transition layers (contrast structures) is considered. An asymptotic expansion of these solutions with respect to a small parameter is constructed, and the stability of stationary solutions to the associated integro-parabolic problems is investigated. The asymptotics are substantiated using the asymptotic method of differential inequalities, which is extended to the new class of problems. The method is based on well-known theorems about differential inequalities and on the idea of using formal asymptotics for constructing upper and lower solutions in singularly perturbed problems with internal and boundary layers.  相似文献
