In this paper,we show that every harmonic map from a compact K?hler manifold with uniformly RC-positive curvature to a Riemannian manifold with non-positive complex sectional curvature is constant.In particular,there is no non-constant harmonic map from a compact Koahler manifold with positive holomorphic sectional curvature to a Riemannian manifold with non-positive complex sectional curvature.  相似文献

We prove a Liouville-type theorem for biharmonic maps from a complete Riemannian manifold of dimension \(n\) that has a lower bound on its Ricci curvature and positive injectivity radius into a Riemannian manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded from above. Under these geometric assumptions we show that if the \(L^p\)-norm of the tension field is bounded and the n-energy of the map is sufficiently small, then every biharmonic map must be harmonic, where \(2<p<n\).  相似文献

Bochner's theorem that a compact Riemannian manifold with positive Ricci curvature has vanishing first cohomology group has various extensions to complete noncompact manifolds with Ricci possibly negative. One still has a vanishing theorem for L 2 harmonic one-forms if the infimum of the spectrum of the Laplacian on functions is greater than minus the infimum of the Ricci curvature. This result and its analogues for p-forms yield vanishing results for certain infinite volume hyperbolic manifolds. This spectral condition also imposes topological restrictions on the ends of the manifold. More refined results are obtained by taking a certain Brownian motion average of the Ricci curvature; if this average is positive, one has a vanishing theorem for the first cohomology group with compact supports on the universal cover of a compact manifold. There are corresponding results for L 2 harmonic spinors on spin manifolds.  相似文献

It is well known that no non-trivial Killing vector field existson a compact Riemannian manifold of negative Ricci curvature;analogously, no non-trivial harmonic one-form exists on a compactmanifold of positive Ricci curvature. One can consider the following,more general, problem. By reducing the assumption on the Riccicurvature to one on the scalar curvature, such vanishing theoremscannot hold in general. This raises the question: "What informationcan we obtain from the existence of non-trivial Killing vectorfields (or, respectively, harmonic one-forms)?" Yau made the following conjecture: For a complete noncompact manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature the space of harmonic functions with polynomial growth of a fixed rate is finite dimensional. we extend the result on the Laplace operator to that on the symmetric diffusion operator, and prove the space of L-harmonic functions with polynomial growth of a fixed rate is finite-dimensional, when m-dimensional Bakery-Emery Ricci curvature of the symmetric diffusion operator on the complete noncompact Riemannian manifold is nonnegative.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that the Lp essential spectra of the Laplacian on functions are [0,+∞) on a non-compact complete Riemannian manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature at infinity. We define the coarse Ricci curvature of metric spaces in terms of how much small balls are closer (in Wasserstein transportation distance) than their centers are. This definition naturally extends to any Markov chain on a metric space. For a Riemannian manifold this gives back, after scaling, the value of Ricci curvature of a tangent vector. Examples of positively curved spaces for this definition include the discrete cube and discrete versions of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. Moreover this generalization is consistent with the Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature for Brownian motion with a drift on a Riemannian manifold.Positive Ricci curvature is shown to imply a spectral gap, a Lévy-Gromov-like Gaussian concentration theorem and a kind of modified logarithmic Sobolev inequality. The bounds obtained are sharp in a variety of examples.  相似文献

We show that assuming lower bounds on the Ricci curvature and the injectivity radius the absolute value of certain characteristic numbers of a Riemannian manifold, including all Pontryagin and Chern numbers, is bounded proportionally to the volume. The proof relies on Chern–Weil theory applied to a connection constructed from Euclidean connections on charts in which the metric tensor is harmonic and has bounded Hölder norm. We generalize this theorem to a Gromov–Hausdorff closed class of rough Riemannian manifolds defined in terms of Hölder regularity. Assuming an additional upper Ricci curvature bound, we show that also the Euler characteristic is bounded proportionally to the volume. Additionally, we remark on a volume comparison theorem for Betti numbers of manifolds with an additional upper bound on sectional curvature. It is a consequence of a result by Bowen.

The notion of exponentially harmonic maps was introduced by Eells and Lemaire (Proceedings of the Banach Center Semester on PDE, pp. 1990–1991, 1990). In this note, by using the maximum principle we get the gradient estimate of exponentially harmonic functions, and then derive a Liouville type theorem for bounded exponentially harmonic functions on a complete Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature and sectional curvature bounded below.  相似文献

In this paper, we will introduce the notion of harmonic stability for complete minimal hypersurfaces in a complete Riemannian manifold. The first result we prove, is that a complete harmonic stable minimal surface in a Riemannian manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature is conformally equivalent to either a plane R 2 or a cylinder R × S 1, which generalizes a theorem due to Fischer-Colbrie and Schoen [12]. The second one is that an n ≥ 2-dimensional, complete harmonic stable minimal, hypersurface M in a complete Riemannian manifold with non-negative sectional curvature has only one end if M is non-parabolic. The third one, which we prove, is that there exist no non-trivial L 2-harmonic one forms on a complete harmonic stable minimal hypersurface in a complete Riemannian manifold with non-negative sectional curvature. Since the harmonic stability is weaker than stability, we obtain a generalization of a theorem due to Miyaoka [20] and Palmer [21]. This paper studies the geometric and topological properties of complete open Riemannian manifolds which support a weighted Sobolev or log-Sobolev inequality. We show that the constant in the weighted Sobolev inequality on a complete open Riemannian manifold should be bigger than or equal to the optimal one on the Euclidean space of the same dimension and that a complete open manifold of asymptotically non-negative Ricci curvature supporting a weighted Sobolev inequality must have large volume growth. We also show that a complete manifold of non-negative Ricci curvature on which the log-Sobolev inequality holds is not very far from the Euclidean space.  相似文献

In this paper,we consider the existence of harmonic maps from a Finsler manifold and study the characterisation of harmonic maps,in the spirit of Ishihara.Using heat quation method we show that any map from a compact Finsler manifold M to a compact Riemannian manifold with non-positive sectional curvature can be deformed into a harmonic map which has minimum energy in its homotopy class.  相似文献

We show that any closed n‐dimensional Riemannian manifold can be embedded by a map constructed from heat kernels at a certain time from a finite number of points. Both this time and this number can be bounded in terms of the dimension, a lower bound on the Ricci curvature, the injectivity radius, and the volume. It follows that the manifold can be embedded by a finite number of eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator. Again, this number only depends on the geometric bounds and the dimension. In addition, both maps can be made arbitrarily close to an isometry. In the appendix, we derive quantitative estimates of the harmonic radius, so that the estimates on the number of eigenfunctions or heat kernels needed can be made quantitative as well. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

In this paper, we study complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. When the Ricci curvature is nonnegative, we show that this kind of manifolds are diffeomorphic to a Euclidean space, by assuming an upper bound on the radial curvature and a volume growth condition of their geodesic balls. When the Ricci curvature only has a lower bound, we also prove that such a manifold is diffeomorphic to a Euclidean space if the radial curvature is bounded from below. Moreover, by assuming different conditions and applying different methods, we shall prove more results on Riemannian manifolds with large volume growth.  相似文献

We derive the entropy formula for the linear heat equation on general Riemannian manifolds and prove that it is monotone non-increasing on manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. As applications, we study the relation between the value of entropy and the volume of balls of various scales. The results are simpler version, without Ricci flow, of Perelman ’s recent results on volume non-collapsing for Ricci flow on compact manifolds. We also prove that if the entropy for the heat kernel achieves its maximum value zero at some positive time, on any complete Riamannian manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature, if and only if the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space.  相似文献
