The present study deals with the trapping of oblique wave by porous barrier located near a rigid wall in the presence of a step type bottom bed. The solution of the physical problem is obtained using the eigenfunction expansion method and multi-mode approximation associated with modified mild-slope equation. Assuming that the porous structure is made of materials having fine pores, the mathematical problem is handled for solution by matching the velocity and pressure at interface boundaries. Various numerical results are computed and analyzed to understand the role of bed profiles, structural porosity, depth ratio, oblique angle of incidence, distance between barrier and step edge and, the distance between the porous barrier and rigid wall in optimizing wave reflection and load on the structure/rigid-wall. A comparison of results on wave trapping by porous barriers over flat and undulated bed reveals that for the same distance between the porous barrier and rigid wall, more number of times optimum reflection occurs in case of undulated bed. The present study is likely to be of immense importance in the design of coastal structures for protecting coastal infrastructures.  相似文献

This study examines the multiple layers in a rubble mound breakwater and their effect on reflection and dissipation of incoming ocean waves. The numerical model is developed using multi-domain boundary element method for oblique water wave trapping near a sloping wall by a multi-layered trapezoidal porous structure, which is utilized to model armour, filter and core layers while examining the hydrodynamics in different configurations. Both, the constant element and linear element approaches to boundary element method are discussed. The cases of bottom-standing porous structures as being submerged and fully extended are considered. The wave hydrodynamics over the structure is described by the reflection and dissipation coefficients along with the forces acting on the sloping wall, and is influenced by wave and structural parametrics of the system. The influence of armour layer in different configurations is highlighted for various structural and wave parameters.

The present study deals with the hydroelastic analysis of gravity wave interaction with concentric porous and flexible cylinder systems, in which the inner cylinder is rigid and the outer cylinder is porous and flexible. The problems are analyzed in finite water depth under the assumption of small amplitude water wave theory and structural response. The cylinder configurations in the present study are namely (a) surface-piercing truncated cylinders, (b) bottom-touching truncated cylinders and (c) complete submerged cylinders extended from free surface to bottom. As special cases of the concentric cylinder system, wave diffraction by (i) porous flexible cylinder and (ii) flexible floating cage with rigid bottom are analyzed. The scattering potentials are evaluated using Fourier–Bessel series expansion method and the least square approximation method. The convergence of the double series is tested numerically to determine the number of terms in the Fourier–Bessel series expansion. The effects of porosity and flexibility of the outer cylinder, in attenuating the hydrodynamic forces and dynamic overturning moments, are analyzed for various cylinder configurations and wave characteristics. A parametric study with respect to wave frequency, ratios of inner-to-outer cylinder radii, annular spacing between the two cylinders and porosities is done. In order to understand the flow distribution around the cylinders, contour plots are provided. The findings of the present study are likely to be of immense help in the design of various types of marine structures which can withstand the wave loads of varied nature in the marine environment. The theory can be easily extended to deal with a large class of problems associated with acoustic wave interaction with flexible porous structures.  相似文献

The interaction between an air shock wave and a rigid wall covered by a porous screen is investigated numerically and experimentally. A mathematical two velocity with two stress tensors model is used for studying the wave processes in saturated porous media. The process of reflection of a step-type wave from a rigid wall covered with a porous layer is considered, the effect of the porous medium and wave parameters on the reflection is analyzed, and the numerical results are compared with the experimental data.Received: 30 July 2002, Accepted: 24 December 2002, Published online: 27 May 2003  相似文献

Using Biot’s consolidation theory, effect of poroelastic bed on flexural gravity wave motion is analyzed in both the cases of single-layer and two-layer fluids. The model for the flexural gravity waves is developed using linear water wave theory and small amplitude structural response in finite water depth. The effects of permeability and shear modulus of poroelastic bed and time period on flexural gravity wave motion are studied by analyzing the dispersion relation, phase speed, plate deflection, interface elevation and pressure distribution along water depth. Various results for surface gravity waves are analyzed as special cases. The study reveals that bed permeability retards the hydrodynamic pressure distribution along the water depth significantly compared to shear modulus whilst, floating plate deflection decreases significantly with change in shear modulus compared to permeability of the poroelastic bed. The present study can be generalized to analyze various wave–structure interaction problems over poroelastic bed.  相似文献

The head-on collision of a planar shock wave with a rigid porous material has been investigated experimentally in a 75 mm × 75 mm shock tube. The experimental study indicated that unlike the reflection from a flexible porous material (e.g., polyurethane foam) where the transmitted compression waves do not converge to a sharp shock wave, in the case of a rigid porous material (e.g., alumina) the transmitted compression waves do converge to a sharp shock wave, which decays as it propagates along the porous material. In addition to this major difference, many other differences were observed. They are outlined in the following sections.Based on these observations a suggestion modifying the phenomenology of the reflection/interaction process in the case a porous material with large permeability is proposed.  相似文献

We investigate the effects of a nearby free surface on the stability of a flexible plate in axial flow. Confinement by rigid boundaries is known to affect flag flutter thresholds and fluttering dynamics significantly, and this work considers the effects of a more general confinement involving a deformable free surface. To this end, a local linear stability is proposed for a flag in axial uniform flow and parallel to a free surface, using one-dimensional beam and potential flow models to revisit this classical fluid–structure interaction problem. The physical behaviour of the confining free surface is characterized by the Froude number, corresponding to the ratio of the incoming flow velocity to that of the gravity waves. After presenting the simplified limit of infinite span (i.e. two-dimensional problem), the results are generalized to include finite-span and lateral confinement effects. In both cases, three unstable regimes are identified for varying Froude number. Rigidly-confined flutter is observed for low Froude number, i.e. when the free surface behaves as a rigid wall, and is equivalent to the classical problem of the confined flag. When the flow and wave velocities are comparable, a new instability is observed before the onset of flutter (i.e. at lower reduced flow speed) and results from the resonance of a structural bending wave and one of the fundamental modes of surface gravity waves. Finally, for large Froude number (low effect of gravity), flutter is observed with significant but passive deformation of the free surface in response of the flag’s displacement.  相似文献

In the present paper, the water wave diffraction by a two-dimensional floating elastic plate is analyzed in the presence of compressive force. The solutions in the cases of infinite and finite water depths are derived based on integro-differential equation method in the presence of compressive force under the assumption of small amplitude water wave theory and plate deflection. Further, wave diffraction by the floating elastic plate is analyzed under the assumption of shallow water approximation. The role of compressive force and its limiting values are obtained by using the hydroelastic analysis of the flexural gravity waves. The limiting values of oblique angle of incidence are obtained in different cases and the effect of compressive force on the oblique angle is analyzed. Effect of compressive force and angle of incidence on the hydroelastic behavior of the floating plate are studied by analyzing the reflection coefficients in different cases.  相似文献

This paper is the companion to Part I under the same title, and is mainly concerned with wave loads due to nonlinear waves of solitary and cnoidal type propagating over a submerged, horizontal and thin plate. Following the development of the nonlinear model (via the Level I Green–Naghdi theory) for the flow of an incompressible and inviscid fluid given in Part I, the wave-induced loads on the submerged, fixed (and rigid) plate are calculated, and results are compared with the available laboratory data, and with linear solutions of the problem. Dependence of the loads on wave conditions (wave height and wavelength) and plate characteristics (submergence depth and plate width) are studied for both the solitary and cnoidal wave cases.  相似文献

Complete analytical solution for the normally incident water wave scattering by a porous flexible vertical elastic plate or tensioned membrane is found. The physical problem in a half-plane is reduced to a couple of equivalent quarter-plane problems by allowing incident waves from either direction of the structure. In the same way, quarter-plane boundary value problems are posed for solid wave potentials that are solutions of the scattering problem involving a rigid structure of the same geometric configuration. Then, two novel integral relations are introduced to establish a link between the required solution wave potentials and few resolvable solid wave potentials. Explicit expressions for the scattering quantities such as the reflection and the transmission coefficients are obtained. Also, the deflection of the flexible vertical structure and the solution potentials are determined analytically. Numerical results for the explicitly derived scattering quantities and structure deflections are presented.  相似文献

The problem of water wave scattering by a thin vertical elastic plate submerged in infinitely deep water is investigated here assuming linear theory. The boundary condition on the elastic plate is derived from the Bernoulli–Euler equation of motion satisfied by the plate. This is converted into the condition that the normal velocity of the plate is prescribed in terms of an integral involving the difference in velocity potentials (unknown) across the plate multiplied by an appropriate Green’s function. The reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained in terms of integrals involving combinations of the unknown velocity potential on the two sides of the plate and its normal derivative on the plate, which satisfy three simultaneous integral equations, solved numerically. These coefficients are computed numerically for various values of different parameters and are depicted graphically against the wave number for different situations. The energy identity relating these coefficients is also derived analytically by employing Green’s integral theorem. Results for a rigid plate are recovered when the parameters characterizing the elastic plate are chosen negligibly small.  相似文献

Evolution of a moderate-intensity shock wave and its enhancement after reflection from a rigid surface embedded in a porous medium are studied experimentally. The medium is saturated with a liquid that has bubbles of a soluble gas. A physical mechanism of shock wave enhancement in a saturated porous medium is proposed. Experimental data on the amplitude and velocity of reflected waves are compared with results of theoretical modeling. The process of gas bubble dissolution behind a shock wave is studied.  相似文献

A special solution of wave dissipation by finite porous plates   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The reflection and transmission of water waves caused by a small amplitude incident wave through finite fine porous plates with equal spacing and permeability in an infinitely long open channel of constant water depth and zero slope are studied. A special solution is obtained when the distance between the two neighbouring plates is an integral multiple of the half-wavelength of the incident wave. It is found, that when the dimensionless porous-effect parameter G_0 is equal to half the total plate number, the wave dissipation reaches a maximum, and only 50% of the incident wave energy remains in the reflected and transmitted waves. Meanwhile, the reflected and transmitted waves have the same amplitude.  相似文献

This paper deals with the waves that are reflected from slabs of porous compressible foam attached to a rigid wall when impacted by a weak shock wave. The interest is in establishing possible attenuation of the pressure field after a shock or blast wave has struck the surface. Foam densities from 14 to 38 kg/m3 were tested over a range of shock wave Mach numbers less than 1.4. It is shown that the initial reflected shock wave strength is accurately predicted by the pseudo-gas model of Gelfand et al. (1983), with a pressure ratio of approximately 80% of the value for reflection off a rigid wall. Evidence is presented of gas entering the foam during the early stages of the process. A second wave emerges from the foam at a later stage and is separated from the first by a region of constant velocity and pressure. This second wave is not a shock wave but a compression front of significant thickness, which emerges from the foam earlier than predicted by the pseudo-gas model. Analysis of the origin of this wave points to much more complex flows within the foam than previously assumed, particularly in an apparent decrease in average wave front speed as the foam is compressed. It is shown that the pressure ratio across both these waves taken together is slightly higher than that for reflection off a rigid wall. In some cases this compression wave train is followed by a weak expansion wave. This article was processed using Springer-Verlag TEX Shock Waves macro package 1990.  相似文献

The reflection and transmission characteristics of an incident plane P1 wave from the interface of a fluid-saturated single porous solid and a fluid-saturated double porosity solid are investigated. The fluid-saturated porous solid is modeled with the classic Biot’s theory and the double porosity medium is described by an extended Biot’s theory. In a double-porosity model with dual-permeability there exist three compressional waves and a shear wave. The effects of the incident angle and frequency on amplitude ratios of the reflected and transmitted waves to the incident wave are discussed. Two boundary conditions are discussed in detail: (a) Open-pore boundary and (b) Sealed-pore boundary. Numerical results reveal that the characteristics of the reflection and transmission coefficients to the incident angle and the frequency are quite different for the two cases of boundary conditions. Properties of the bulk waves existing in the fluid-saturated porous solid and the double porosity medium are also studied.  相似文献

Acoustic waves scattering from a rigid air-saturated porous medium is studied in the time domain. The medium is one dimensional and its physical parameters are depth dependent, i.e., the medium is layered. The loss and dispersion properties of the medium are due to the fluid-structure interaction induced by wave propagation. They are modeled by generalized susceptibility functions which express the memory effects in the propagation process. The wave equation is then a fractional telegraphist’s equation. The two relevant quantities are the scattering operators—transmission and reflection operators—which give the scattered fields from the incident wave. They are obtained from Volterra equations which are fractional equations for the scattering operators.  相似文献

The problem of irregular reflection of a strong shock wave from a rigid wall has been studied [1–3] mainly within the framework of the linear theory. It has been found that near the front of a shock wave there exist a region of large gradients of gasdynamic parameters in which the linear theory is no longer valid [4]. In the present paper we consider the nonlinear problem of Mach reflection when there is interaction between a shock wave of high intensity and a thin wedge. The solution of the problem is constructed on the assumption that the ratio of densities along the front of the impinging shock wave is small [5, 6].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 55–61, September–October, 1974.In conclusion, the authors wish to express their gratitude to A. A. Grib for his interest in the subject and to L. A. Rumyantsev for his help in carrying out the calculations.  相似文献
