This study investigates the elasto-plastic buckling behaviour of simply supported square and rectangular thin steel plates having elliptic cut-outs by means of finite element method. Plates with simply supported in the out-of-plane direction are applied uniform compression in long-edge direction. A50 steel was used in the analysis and the focus was on the effect of plate aspect ratio, elliptical hole size, elliptical hole angle, elliptical hole location and slenderness ratio on buckling behaviour. It was found in the study that as the plate slenderness ratio increases, the critical buckling stress decreases for all the perforated plates.

A finite strip method is presented for calculating the linear buckling stresses of structural assemblies of long, thin plate components which, in general, are curved and which are rigidly joined together at their longitudinal edges. It is assumed that on buckling under the action of a biaxial direct stress field the perturbation forces and displacements all vary sinusoidally in the longitudinal direction. A stiffness matrix relating the amplitudes of the perturbation forces and displacements is developed for the curved strip on the further assumption of relatively high-order polynomial variations of the displacement components around the plate width. Numerical results are presented of the application of the curved strip in calculating the buckling stresses of plates, cylinders, panels and formed sections.  相似文献

In this article, an analytical solution for buckling of moderately thick functionally graded (FG) sectorial plates is presented. It is assumed that the material properties of the FG plate vary through the thickness of the plate as a power function. The stability equations are derived according to the Mindlin plate theory. By introducing four new functions, the stability equations are decoupled. The decoupled stability equations are solved analytically for both sector and annular sector plates with two simply supported radial edges. Satisfying the edges conditions along the circular edges of the plate, an eigenvalue problem for finding the critical buckling load is obtained. Solving the eigenvalue problem, the numerical results for the critical buckling load and mode shapes are obtained for both sector and annular sector plates. Finally, the effects of boundary conditions, volume fraction, inner to outer radius ratio (annularity) and plate thickness are studied. The results for critical buckling load of functionally graded sectorial plates are reported for the first time and can be used as benchmark.  相似文献

The mechanism of imperfection sensitivity of elastic-plastic plates under compression is complex as they undergo elastic and/or plastic buckling, dependent on their width-thickness ratio. For elastic buckling, the Koiter power law is an established means to describe the imperfection sensitivity. Yet, for plastic buckling, there is no such an established way to describe it. In this paper, the quadratic power law is advanced to describe imperfection-insensitive plastic buckling behavior. The Koiter power law is extended by implementing the quadratic law so as to describe the elastic and plastic buckling in a synthetic manner. The finite-displacement, elastic-plastic analysis was conducted on simply-supported square plates under compression by varying the plate thickness and the initial deflection of a sinusoidal form. In association with an increase of the plate slenderness parameter (decrease of plate thickness), the predominant buckling is shown to change from (1) plastic buckling to (2) unstable elastic-plastic buckling and to (3) elastic stable bifurcation followed by a maximum point of load. In accordance with the change of the mechanism of buckling, the power law is changed pertinently to describe the complex imperfection sensitivity of the compression plates in a synthetic manner. The extended imperfection sensitivity law is thus advanced as a simple and strong tool to describe the ultimate buckling strength of elastic-plastic plates.  相似文献

In this study, the mechanical buckling and free vibration of thick rectangular plates made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) resting on elastic foundation subjected to in-plane loading is considered. The third order shear deformation theory (TSDT) is employed to derive the governing equations. It is assumed that the material properties of FGM plates vary smoothly by distribution of power law across the plate thickness. The elastic foundation is modeled by the Winkler and two-parameter Pasternak type of elastic foundation. Based on the spline finite strip method, the fundamental equations for functionally graded plates are obtained by discretizing the plate into some finite strips. The results are achieved by the minimization of the total potential energy and solving the corresponding eigenvalue problem. The governing equations are solved for FGM plates buckling analysis and free vibration, separately. In addition, numerical results for FGM plates with different boundary conditions have been verified by comparing to the analytical solutions in the literature. Furthermore, the effects of different values of the foundation stiffness parameters on the response of the FGM plates are determined and discussed.  相似文献

Bubble functions are finite element modes that are zero on the boundary of the element but nonzero at the other point. The present paper adds bubble functions to the ordinary Complex Finite Strip Method(CFSM) to calculate the elastic local buckling stress of plates and plate assemblies. The results indicate that the use of bubble functions greatly improves the convergence of the Finite Strip Method(FSM) in terms of strip subdivision, and leads to much smaller storage required for the structure stiffness and stability matrices. Numerical examples are given, including plates and plate structures subjected to a combination of longitudinal and transverse compression, bending and shear. This study illustrates the power of bubble functions in solving stability problems of plates and plate structures. The elastic buckling behavior of rectangular perforated plates was studied by using the finite element method in this study. Circular cutout was chosen at different locations along the principal x-axis of plates subjected to linearly varying loading in order to evaluate the effect of cutout location on the buckling behavior of plates. The results show that the center of a circular hole should not be placed at the end half of the outer panel for all loading patterns. Furthermore, the presence of a circular hole always causes a decrease in the elastic buckling load of plates subjected to bending, even if the circular hole is not in the outer panel.  相似文献

A solution for buckling of a stiff strip of finite width bonded to a compliant elastic half-space and subjected to uniform axial compression is presented. Approximate semi-analytical and finite element solutions are obtained and compared with a two-dimensional case of a plate on elastic foundation. The comparison demonstrates that the two-dimensional solution can be applied to predict the buckling wavelength and critical compressive strain when the width of the strip is equal to or larger than the buckling wavelength. For narrow strips, the wavelength is smaller and critical strain is higher than that of a plate on foundation.  相似文献

Based on the two-dimensional theory of elasticity for an orthotropic plate, relations between stress components produced in two different orthotropic plates are considered and the conditions to realize the similar stress fields in different orthotropic plates are studied. On the basis of the similarity law, a convenient photoelastic method to analyze stress fields in an orthotropic plate, using an isotropic plate, is presented. Two examples are treated. One deals with the stress-concentration problem around a circular hole in a strip with edges parallel to the symmetric axis of elasticity. In the second example, the edges of the strip are assumed to be inclined by 30 deg to the elastically symmetric axes. The experimental results are compared with theoretical calculations. Buckling and post-buckling behavior of a soft ferromagnetic beam-plate with unmovable simple supports under an applied magnetic field is analyzed by taking into account the non-linear effect of large deflections based on the von Karman model of plates. The study shows that buckling is proceeded by bending only if the applied magnetic field forms an incident angle with the normal of the plate. The characteristics of buckling and post-buckling are explored by numerical analysis. In particular, the numerical solution shows that, when the applied magnetic field is oblique, the plate snapps from a whole wave configuration into a half-wave configuration as buckling/snapping occurs, and that the magnetoelastic buckling strength increases with the increasing oblique angle.  相似文献

Compressive strength of edge-loaded corrugated board panels   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Postbuckling strength of simply supported corrugated board panels subjected to edge compressive loading has been studied experimentally using a specially developed test fixture. Although the load versus out-of-plane displacement response was highly sensitive to the presence of initial imperfections in the panels, the collapse loads did not vary much, which is attributed to the stable postbuckling behavior of the plates. Thin plates collapsed at nearly twice the buckling load, while thick panels collapsed at loads below the elastic critical buckling load. Local buckling of the facing on the concave side of the buckled plate was observed at load levels close to the collapse load. The plate collapse was triggered by compressive failure of the facings that initiated at the unloaded edges. A simplified design analysis was derived based on approximate postbuckling analysis and compared with an existing design formula for corrugated board panels and boxes.  相似文献

The paper presents experimental results on the deformation, local buckling, and fracture of D16AT plates with two parallel edge cracks under tension. The distribution of strains and deflections over typical cross-sections and buckling modes are determined. The influence of the crack length and the distance between the cracks on the local buckling stresses and breaking stresses is studied. The effect of local buckling on the strength of the plate is evaluated __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 42, No. 11, pp. 121–125, November 2006.  相似文献

Scale effects are studied on the buckling behavior of bilayer composite plates under non-uniform uniaxial compression via the nonlocal theory. Each isotropic plate is composed of a material that is different from others, and the adhesive between the plates is modeled as the Winkler elastic medium. According to the symmetry, effects of the Winkler non-dimensional parameter, the thickness ratio, the ratio of Young''s moduli, and the aspect ratio are also considered on the buckling problem of bilayer plates, where only the top plate is under the uniaxial compression. Numerical examples show that the Winkler elastic coefficient, the thickness ratio, and the ratio of Young''s moduli play decisive roles in the buckling behavior. Nonlocal effect is significant when the high-order buckling mode occurs or the aspect ratio is small.  相似文献

An analysis of buckling/snapping and bending behaviors of magneto-elastic-plastic interaction and coupling for cantilever rectangular soft ferromagnetic plates is presented.Based on the expression of magnetic force from the variational principle of ferromagnetic plates, the buckling and bending theory of thin plates, the Mises yield criterion and the increment theory for plastic deformation,we establish a numerical code to quantitatively simulate the behaviors of the nonlinearly multi-fields coupling problems by the finite element method.Along with the phenom- ena of buckling/snapping and bending,or the characteristic curve of deflection versus magnitude of applied magnetic fields being numerically displayed, the critical loads of buckling/snapping, and the influences of plastic deformation and the width of plate on these critical loads, the plastic regions expanding with the magnitude of applied magnetic field,as well as the evolvement of deflection configuration of the plate are numerically obtained in a case study.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the application of the p-Ritz method for the plastic buckling analysis of thick plates. In order to allow for the effect of transverse shear deformation in thick plates, the Mindlin plate theory is adopted. The plastic buckling behaviour of the plate is captured by using the incremental and deformation theories of plasticity. The material property of the plate is assumed to obey the Ramberg–Osgood stress–strain relation. The p-Ritz method will be applied to obtain the governing eigenvalue equation for the plastic buckling analysis of uniformly stressed plates with edges defined by polynomial functions. In the p-Ritz method, the displacement functions of the plate are approximately represented by the product of mathematically complete two-dimensional polynomial functions and boundary equations raised to appropriate powers that ensure the satisfaction of the geometric boundary conditions. The validity, convergence and accuracy of the method were demonstrated for various plate shapes such as rectangular, triangular and elliptical shapes. A parametric study was also undertaken to study the plastic buckling behaviour and the effect of transverse shear deformation.  相似文献

Analytical solutions using various hypotheses are obtained for the problem of buckling of an annular circular plate of a shape memory alloy in the forward or reverse thermoelastic phase transformations under uniform radial compression. It is established that, despite the axial symmetry of the body geometry, loads, and boundary conditions, the minimum critical loads for annular plates correspond to nonaxisymmetric buckling modes, in contrast to continuous plates.  相似文献
