The coordination chemistry of a Rh(III) porphyrin building block was investigated with a view to the construction of heterometallic arrays of porphyrins. The Rh(III) porphyrin was found to coordinate methanol in the solid state and weakly in CDCl(3) solution. Crystallization afforded five coordinate pi stacked Rh(III) porphyrins. The distribution of products from reaction of Rh(III) porphyrin with DABCO, 4,4'-bipyridine, and 4,4'-bipyrimidine could be displaced toward dimeric species by silica gel column chromatography or recrystallization which served to remove excess ligand. Weak coordination to nitriles was observed, although it was sufficiently strong to organize a dimeric complex of 5,5'-dicyano-2,2'-bipyridine in the solid state. Complexes with 4,4'-bipyrimidine and 5,5'-dicyano-2,2'-bipyridine possess uncoordinated chelating nitrogen atoms. Larger heterometallic porphyrin arrays were assembled using a combination of Sn(IV) and Rh(III) porphyrin coordination chemistry. A Sn(IV) porphyrin acted as a core around which were coordinated two isonicotinate groups, carboxylic acid functionalized porphyrins, or porphyrin trimer dendrons. Rh(III) porphyrins were coordinated to pyridyl groups at the periphery of these entities. In this way an eleven porphyrin array, with four different porphyrin metalation states, was assembled. The diamagnetic nature of both the Rh(III) and Sn(IV) porphyrins, the slow ligand exchange kinetics on the NMR time scale, and tight ligand binding permitted the porphyrin arrays to be analyzed by two-dimensional (1)H NMR techniques.  相似文献

Mixed metallo-porphyrin cages were selected and amplified from dynamic combinatorial libraries (DCLs) by using appropriate templates. The cages are composed of two bisphosphine substituted zinc(II) porphyrins as ligand donors and two rhodium(III) or ruthenium(II) porphyrins as ligand acceptors, and are connected through metal-phosphorus coordination. Ru and Rh porphyrins that display a large structural diversity were employed. The templating was achieved by using 4,4'-bpy, 3,3'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridine and benzo[lmn]-3,8-phenanthroline, and acts through zinc-nitrogen coordination. The absolute amount of amplification from the DCLs is strongly dependent on the combination of the Ru/Rh porphyrin and the template; cages with sterically demanding porphyrins can only form with smaller templates. In the case of tert-butyl-substituted TPP (TPP=tetraphenylporphyrin), cages are not formed at all. The formation of the cages is usually complete within 24 h at an ambient temperature; in the case of the cage containing Rh(III)OEP (OEP=octaethylporphyrin) and bpy, the pseudo-first-order rate constant of cage formation was determined to be 2.1+/-0.1x10(-4) s(-1) (CDCl(3), 25 degrees C). Alternatively, heating the mixtures to 65 degrees C and cooling to room temperature yields the cages within minutes. The (1)H NMR chemical shifts of several characteristic protons show large differences upon changing the identity of the Ru/Rh porphyrin and the central metal; this is most likely to arise from variations in the geometry of the cages. The X-ray crystal structure of a cage, which contains Rh(III)OEP as a porphyrin acceptor and bpy as template, demonstrates that the cages can adopt severely distorted conformations to accommodate the relatively short templates. An extension to mixed DCLs showed that only limited selectivity is displayed by the various templates. Formation of mixed cages that contain two different rhodium porphyrins prevents effective selection, although the kinetic lability of the systems allows for some amplification. This lability, however, also prevents isolation of the individual cages. Removal of the template leads to re-equilibration, thus the templates act as scaffolds to keep the structures intact.  相似文献

An approach which employs pentameric porphyrin arrays as building blocks toward larger porphyrin arrays is described. Two flexible, and one relatively rigid, Ru-centered porphyrin pentamers (1-3) were synthesized and fully characterized. Their potential as building blocks toward larger porphyrin arrays has been studied via their coordination chemistry using bidentate and tetradentate ligands. DABCO (diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane) can bind two monomeric porphyrins but was found to be too small to allow the complete formation of a 10-porphyrin array. On the other hand, titration of a larger bridging dipyridyl porphyrin ligand 17 (0.5 equiv) with 1 or 2 and tetrapyridyl ligand 18 (0.25 equiv) with 3 results in the formation of the 11-porphyrin and 21-porphyrin arrays, respectively, with the 21-porphyrin array containing porphyrins in three different metalation states. Changes in the chemical shift of the inner NH protons as well as the ortho- and meso-protons of the pyridyl groups of the porphyrin ligand clearly indicate the formation of large multiple porphyrin complexes. These studies demonstrate that by use of carefully designed building blocks and suitable bridging ligands, porphyrin arrays can be constructed with a dramatic increase in size in relatively few steps. Exploiting the fact that the strength of binding of pyridyl ligands is Ru > Zn > Ni, intra- vs intermolecular competition has been used to investigate aspects of the folding of the array. The photophysical properties of 3 are also described.  相似文献

A modular building-block approach has been developed for the construction of linear amphipathic porphyrin arrays. The reaction of meso-(trifluoromethyl)dipyrromethane and an aldehyde under the conditions of the two-step room temperature porphyrin synthesis affords the trans-substituted porphyrin (13-56% yields). A similar reaction with two different aldehydes provides access to porphyrins bearing two different functional groups. An ethyne porphyrin and an iodo porphyrin (either free base or zinc) are selectively joined via Pd(0)-catalyzed coupling reactions, affording a linear array with porphyrins in defined metalation states. Coupling of a zinc-porphyrin bearing iodo and ester groups with a free base porphyrin bearing ethyne and ester groups yielded the zinc-free base porphyrin dimer. Coupling of a bis-ethyne porphyrin with a porphyrin bearing iodo and ester groups afforded the porphyrin trimer. Cleavage of the esters yielded the amphipathic porphyrin dimer and trimer arrays. The arrays with adjacent zinc and free base porphyrins undergo efficient electronic energy transfer. Both amphipathic porphyrin arrays have been incorporated into L-alpha-phosphatidylcholine vesicles. This versatile synthetic strategy provides access to a family of porphyrin arrays for studies of photophysical processes in supramolecular assemblies.  相似文献

Encapsulated transition metal catalysts are presented that are formed by templated self-assembly processes of simple building blocks such as porphyrins and pyridylphosphine and phosphite ligands, using selective metal-ligand interactions. These ligand assemblies coordinate to transition metals, leading to a new class of transition metal catalysts. The assembled catalyst systems were characterized using NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy and were identified under catalytic conditions using high-pressure infrared spectroscopy. Tris-3-pyridylphosphine binds three mesophenyl zinc(II) porphyrin units and consequently forms an assembly with the phosphorus donor atom completely encapsulated. The encapsulated phosphines lead exclusively to monoligated transition metal complexes, and in the rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation of 1-octene the encapsulation of the catalysts resulted in a 10-fold increase in activity. In addition, the branched aldehyde was formed preferentially (l/b = 0.6), a selectivity that is highly unusual for this substrate, which is attributed to the encapsulation of the transition metal catalysts. An encapsulated rhodium catalyst based on ruthenium(II) porphyrins and tris-meta-pyridyl phosphine resulted in an even larger selectivity for the branched product (l/b = 0.4). These encapsulated catalysts can be prepared easily, and various template ligands and porphyrins, such as tris-3-pyridyl phosphite and ruthenium(II) porphyrins, have been explored, leading to catalysts with different properties.  相似文献

The synthesis of novel porphyrin trimers covalently linked by one central, rigid triptycene unit is described. Reaction of 2,6,14-triiodotriptycene, generated in a three-step synthesis from triptycene, with borylated porphyrins under Suzuki cross-coupling conditions afforded porphyrin trimers. In addition, Sonogashira cross-coupling conditions could be successfully applied for the synthesis of trimeric porphyrin arrays as well.  相似文献

The syntheses of soluble windmill and grid porphyrin arrays through the AgI-promoted coupling reaction of 1,4-phenylene-bridged linear porphyrin arrays, which are comprised of a central ZnII beta-free porphyrin and flanking peripheral NiII beta-octaalkylporphyrins, are described. The coupling reaction is advantageous in light of its high regioselectivity occurring only at the meso-position of the ZnII beta-free porphyrin as well as its easy extension to large porphyrin arrays. The windmill porphyrin arrays in turn serve as an effective substrate for further coupling reactions, to give three-dimensionally arranged grid porphyrin arrays. Further the grid porphyrin 12-mer (a tetramer of the linear porphyrin trimer) was also coupled to afford grid porphyrins (24-mer, 36-mer, and 48-mer). These porphyrin arrays were isolated in a discrete form by repetitive GPC/HPLC (GPC= gel-permiation chromatography). Competitive experiments with three linear porphyrin trimers bearing different peripheral metalloporphyrins (ZnII, NiII, and Cull), and the trapping experiment of the radical cation at the peripheral porphyrin with AgNO2, suggested that an initial one-electron oxidation of the easily oxidizable peripheral ZnII beta-octaalkylporphyrin with an AgI ion and a subsequent endothermic hole transfer assist the generation of the radical cation at the central ZnII beta-free porphyrin. In all ZnII-metallated windmill porphyrin arrays, the energy level of the S1 state of the meso-meso-linked diporphyrin core is lower than that of the peripheral porphyrins, thereby allowing an energy flow from the peripheral porphyrins to the central diporphyrin core; this has been confirmed by measurements of fluorescence lifetimes and picosecond time-resolved fluorescence spectra. The excitation energy transfer in the arrays encourages their potential use as an light-harvesting antenna.  相似文献

We present the rational design and synthesis of multiporphyrin arrays containing thiol-derivatized linkers for the purpose of multibit molecular information storage. Porphyrin dimers and trimers were synthesized by the Pd-mediated coupling of iodo-substituted and ethynyl-substituted porphyrin building blocks in 5-51% yields. Each porphyrin dimer bears one S-acetylthio group. The architecture of the trimers incorporates a trans-substituted porphyrin (central) bearing two S-acetylthio groups and two diphenylethyne-linked porphyrins (wings) in a trans geometry. The central porphyrin and the wing porphyrins bear distinct substituents and central metals, thereby affording different oxidation potentials. The S-acetylthio groups provide a means for attachment of the arrays to an electroactive surface. The dimers are designed for vertical orientation on an electroactive surface while the trimers are designed for horizontal orientation of the central porphyrin. Altogether seven different arrays were synthesized. Each array forms a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on gold via in situ cleavage of the S-acetyl protecting group. The SAM of each array is electrochemically robust and exhibits multiple, reversible oxidation waves. In general, however, the trimeric arrays appear to form more highly ordered monolayers that exhibit sharper, better-defined redox features.  相似文献

Tetraphenylmethane appended with four pyridylpyridinium units works as a scaffold to self-assemble four ruthenium porphyrins in a tetrahedral shape-persistent giant architecture. The resulting supramolecular structure has been characterised in the solid state by X-ray single crystal analysis and in solution by various techniques. Multinuclear NMR spectroscopy confirms the 1 : 4 stoichiometry with the formation of a highly symmetric structure. The self-assembly process can be monitored by changes of the redox potentials, as well as by modifications in the visible absorption spectrum of the ruthenium porphyrin and by a complete quenching of both the bright fluorescence of the tetracationic scaffold and the weak phosphorescence of the ruthenium porphyrin. An ultrafast photoinduced electron transfer is responsible for this quenching process. The lifetime of the resulting charge separated state (800 ps) is about four times longer in the giant supramolecular structure compared to the model 1 : 1 complex formed by the ruthenium porphyrin and a single pyridylpyridinium unit. Electron delocalization over the tetrameric pyridinium structure is likely to be responsible for this effect.  相似文献

Multiporphyrin arrays are a complex class of molecules with numerous potential applications in energy transfer, photomedicine, and light harvesting. We have developed a facile/versatile route to a class of triptycene-linked porphyrin arrays via both Suzuki and Sonogashira cross-coupling methods, which makes use of the rigid three-pronged orientation of triptycene to construct trimeric porphyrin arrays linked either in the meso or β-position with various linker groups. In order to understand the properties of these potential antenna systems and probe their potential applications, the coordination behavior of zinc(II) derivatives with mono- and bidentate N-donor ligands was investigated. Depending on ligand concentration, both one- and two-point binding was observed with a bidentate ligand. Also/in addition, different cavity sizes, obtained by the use of different linker groups, resulted in differences in the binding properties of each trimeric system.  相似文献

Dendritic manganese, iron, and ruthenium porphyrins with dendritic wedges attached to the periphery of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) or meso-triarylporphyrin macrocycle were reported to be active catalysts for epoxidation or cyclopropanation of alkenes or oxidation of sulfides. The dendritic manganese and iron porphyrin catalysts exhibit considerably higher regioselectivity and shape selectivity than the respective parent catalyst [M(TPP)Cl] (M = Mn, Fe). Systematic increase in shape selectivity, diastereoselectivity, epoxide/sulfoxide selectivity, or catalyst stability with increasing generation number of the dendritic wedges is observed for the alkene epoxidation or sulfide oxidation reactions catalyzed by these dendritic manganese, iron, and ruthenium porphyrins. A new methodology for preparing heteroporphyrin arrays in aqueous solution has been presented. The present method is based on the extremely strong ability of heptakis(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-beta-cyclodextrin (TMe-beta-CD) to include 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-substituted-phenyl)porphyrins (Por) affording trans-type 1:2 complexes of the porphyrins and TMe-beta-CD. Two different Por-per-O-methylated beta-CD (per-Me-beta-CD) conjugates were synthesized. Conjugate 2 was prepared by an S(N)2 reaction of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin and per-O-methylated beta-cyclodextrin having one primary OTs group. Four per-Me-beta-CD moieties are attached to the meso positions of 2. Conjugate 3, synthesized from 5-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tris(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)porphyrin and monotosylated per-O-methylated beta-cyclodextrin, has one per-Me-beta-CD moiety at the periphery of the porphyrin. Conjugate 2 yields a stable 1:4 complex with the zinc complex of 5-phenyl-10,15,20-tris(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)porphyrin (8) in the dissociated form. In this system, the energy transfer from photoexcited Zn-8 to free base 2 occurs with 85% efficiency. Conjugate 3 forms a very stable 1:1 complex with Zn-8 (K = (7.0 +/- 0.3) x 10(5) dm(3) mol(-1)) with an energy transfer efficiency (93%) larger than that obtained in the case of 2. The structure of the 3-Zn-8 complex, which can account for the efficient energy transfer, was deduced from (1)H NMR spectroscopy. Intramolecular fluorescence quenching of 2 and 3 by Fe(III)-8 also occurred through an electron-transfer process as the main quenching mechanism. The present method is a very simple and convenient means to construct various heteroporphyrin arrays in aqueous solution.  相似文献

The coordination chemistry of porphyrins has traditionally involved the ability of the porphyrin's tetrapyrrolic core to accommodate metal ions of varying charges and sizes, and on the organometallic chemistry of the resulting metalloporphyrins. However, the organometallic chemistry of porphyrins is not necessarily restricted to the metal bound in the porphyrin core, but can also be extended to the porphyrin periphery, be it through direct metalation of the porphyrin macrocycle at the meso or beta position, or by attachment to or merger of the porphyrin skeleton with ligands, followed by metalation. This Review focuses on the synthetic strategies used for porphyrins with peripheral metal-carbon bonds. The exciting results that have been produced underscore the importance and future potential of this field.  相似文献

Two new cyclic hexameric arrays of porphyrins have been prepared in a rational, convergent manner. The porphyrins in each cyclic hexamer are joined by diphenylethyne linkers affording a wheel-like array with a diameter of approximately 35 A. One array is comprised of five zinc (Zn) porphyrins and one free base (Fb) porphyrin (cyclo-Zn(5)FbU) while the other is comprised of an alternating sequence of two Zn porphyrins and one Fb porphyrin (cyclo-Zn(2)FbZn(2)FbU). The prior synthesis employed a one-flask template-directed process and afforded alternating Zn and Fb porphyrins or all Zn porphyrins. More diverse metalation patterns are attractive for manipulating the flow of excited-state energy in the arrays. The rational synthesis of each array employed three Pd-mediated coupling reactions with four tetraarylporphyrin building blocks bearing diethynyl, diiodo, bromo/iodo, or iodo/ethynyl groups. The final ring closure yielding the cyclic hexamer was achieved by reaction of a porphyrin pentamer + porphyrin monomer or the joining of two porphyrin trimers. In the presence of a tripyridyl template, the yields of the 5 + 1 and 3 + 3 reactions ranged from 10 to 13%. The 5 + 1 reaction in the absence of the template proceeded in 3.5% yield, thereby establishing the structure-directed contribution to cyclic hexamer formation. The 3 + 3 route relied on successive ethyne + iodo/bromo coupling reactions. One template-directed route to cyclo-Zn(2)FbZn(2)FbU employed a magnesium porphyrin, affording cyclo-Zn(2)FbZn(2)MgU from which magnesium was selectively removed. The arrays exhibit absorption spectra that are nearly the sum of the spectra of the component parts, indicating weak electronic coupling. Fluorescence spectroscopy showed that the quantum yield of energy transfer in toluene at room temperature from the Zn porphyrins to the Fb porphyrin(s) was 60% in cyclo-Zn(5)FbU and 90% in cyclo-Zn(2)FbZn(2)FbU. Two dipyridyl-substituted porphyrins, a Zn tetraarylporphyrin and a Fb oxaporphyrin, have been synthesized for use as guests in the cyclic hexamers, affording self-assembled arrays for light-harvesting studies.  相似文献

The complexation of optically active or racemic amines, amino esters and amino acids with chiral ruthenium Halterman porphyrins is described. For various amino esters, chiral recognition was observed for the complexation of the ligand with up to 60% enantiomeric excess for 1-(1-naphthyl) ethylamine. A water-soluble ruthenium Halterman porphyrin, due to the presence of four sulfonate groups at the para-positions, was also prepared and used for the chiral recognition of amino acids in water.  相似文献

The synthesis and self-assembly behaviour of porphyrin dodecamers 1H(2) and Zn-1, which consist of twelve porphyrins that are covalently attached to a central aromatic core, is described. According to STM, 1D and 2D NMR studies, and molecular modelling calculations, the porphyrin dodecamers have a yo-yo-shaped structure. Their large pi surface, in combination with their disk-like shape, allows them to form self-assembled structures, which in the case of Zn-1 can be tuned by adding bidentate ligands. The self-assembly of the molecules at the liquid-solid interface of 1-phenyloctane with highly oriented pyrolytic graphite or Au(111) was imaged by using STM. The porphyrin disks in the self-assembled arrays have an edge-on orientation on the surface. The addition of bidentate axial ligands to the Zn-1 molecules in the arrays allows their intermolecular distance to be precisely controlled.  相似文献

New donor-acceptor hybrids of Zn(II)-metallated 5,15-diaryl porphyrins have been designed and synthesised via the porphyrin interactions with an electron acceptor molecule, di-n-hexyl N-substituted 1,2,4,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic diimide (NDI). Binding interactions within these supramolecular complexes were investigated in the solid state by synchrotron X-ray diffraction and probed in solution by (1)H NMR spectroscopy. The systematic modulation of the porphyrin π-density was achieved, for the first time as multiple methoxy and fluorine groups were introduced as substituents to the 5,15-diaryls of the porphyrin. For these, the variation of the porphyrin-NDI binding strengths determined by (1)H NMR titrations was shown, using the Swain's type dual parameter approach, to be closely linked with the peripheral substitution pattern of the diaryl porphyrins validated by crystallography. The new 1:1 donor-acceptor complexes formed display characteristic features of the aromatic-stacked systems, i.e. the parallel arrangement and short interplanar separation between the substituted porphyrin and NDI. Synthetic modification of electron-density on the porphyrin surface by introducing substituents at peripheral sites of functionalised porphyrins represent a general solution towards electronically tunable aromatic surfaces: an understanding of their solution and solid state behaviour will significantly improve the rational design of new functional donor-acceptor supramolecular materials with potential applications ranging from new energy materials to dye-sensitised solar cells, photovoltaics and future drug delivery devices.  相似文献

Bis(1,1-diphenylhydrazido(1-))ruthenium(IV) porphyrins, [Ru(IV)(Por)(NHNPh2)2] (Por = TPP, TTP, 4-Cl-TPP, 4-MeO-TPP), were prepared in approximately 60% yields through the reaction of dioxoruthenium(VI) porphyrins, [Ru(VI)(Por)O2], with 1,1-diphenylhydrazine in ethanol. This new type of ruthenium complex has been characterized by 1H NMR, IR, UV-vis, and FABMS with elemental analysis. The crystal structure of [Ru(IV)(TTP)(NHNPh2)2], which reveals an eta1-coordination mode for both hydrazido axial ligands, has been determined. The average Ru-NHNPh2 distance and Ru-N-N angle were found to be 1.911(3) A and 141.1(3) degrees, respectively. The porphyrin ring exhibits a ruffling distortion that is unprecedentedly large for ruthenium complexes with simple porphyrinato ligands (such as TTP). This is probably due to the steric effect of the axial hydrazido(1-) ligands.  相似文献
