We define and investigate t-semisimple modules as a generalization of semisimple modules. A module M is called t-semisimple if every submodule N contains a direct summand K of M such that K is t-essential in N. T-semisimple modules are Morita invariant and they form a strict subclass of t-extending modules. Many equivalent conditions for a module M to be t-semisimple are found. Accordingly, M is t-semisiple, if and only if, M = Z 2(M) ⊕ S(M) (where Z 2(M) is the Goldie torsion submodule and S(M) is the sum of nonsingular simple submodules). A ring R is called right t-semisimple if R R is t-semisimple. Various characterizations of right t-semisimple rings are given. For some types of rings, conditions equivalent to being t-semisimple are found, and this property is investigated in terms of chain conditions.  相似文献

Let R be any ring. A right R-module M is called n-copure projective if Ext1(M, N) = 0 for any right R-module N with fd(N) ≤ n, and M is said to be strongly copure projective if Ext i (M, F) = 0 for all flat right R-modules F and all i ≥ 1. In this article, firstly, we present some general properties of n-copure projective modules and strongly copure projective modules. Then we define and investigate copure projective dimensions of modules and rings. Finally, more properties and applications of n-copure projective modules, strongly copure projective modules and copure projective dimensions are given over coherent rings with finite self-FP-injective dimension.  相似文献

An element of a ring R is called “strongly clean” if it is the sum of an idempotent and a unit that commute, and R is called “strongly clean” if every element of R is strongly clean. A module M is called “strongly clean” if its endomorphism ring End(M) is a strongly clean ring. In this article, strongly clean modules are characterized by direct sum decompositions, that is, M is a strongly clean module if and only if whenever M′⊕ B = A 1A 2 with M′? M, there are decompositions M′ = M 1M 2, B = B 1B 2, and A i  = C i D i (i = 1,2) such that M 1B 1 = C 1D 2 = M 1C 1 and M 2B 2 = D 1C 2 = M 2C 2.  相似文献

Relative notions of flatness are introduced as a mean to gauge the extent of the flatness of any given module. Every module is thus endowed with a flatness domain and, for every ring, the collection of flatness domains of all of its modules is a lattice with respect to class inclusion. This lattice, the flatness profile of the ring, allows us, in particular, to focus on modules which have a smallest flatness domain (namely, one consisting of all regular modules.) We establish that such modules exist over arbitrary rings and we call them Rugged Modules. Rings all of whose (cyclic) modules are rugged are shown to be precisely the von Neumann regular rings. We consider rings without a flatness middle class (i.e., rings for which modules must be either flat or rugged.) We obtain that, over a right Noetherian ring every left module is rugged or flat if and only if every right module is poor or injective if and only if R = S×T, where S is semisimple Artinian and T is either Morita equivalent to a right PCI-domain, or T is right Artinian whose Jacobson radical properly contains no nonzero ideals. Character modules serve to bridge results about flatness and injectivity profiles; in particular, connections between rugged and poor modules are explored. If R is a ring whose regular left modules are semisimple, then a right module M is rugged if and only if its character left module M+ is poor. Rugged Abelian groups are fully characterized and shown to coincide precisely with injectively poor and projectively poor Abelian groups. Also, in order to get a feel for the class of rugged modules over an arbitrary ring, we consider the homological ubiquity of rugged modules in the category of all modules in terms of the feasibility of rugged precovers and covers for arbitrary modules.  相似文献

We characterize right Noetherian rings over which all simple modules are almost injective. It is proved that R is such a ring, if and only if, the complements of semisimple submodules of every R-module M are direct summands of M, if and only if, R is a finite direct sum of right ideals Ir, where Ir is either a Noetherian V-module with zero socle, or a simple module, or an injective module of length 2. A commutative Noetherian ring for which all simple modules are almost injective is precisely a finite direct product of rings Ri, where Ri is either a field or a quasi-Frobenius ring of length 2. We show that for commutative rings whose all simple modules are almost injective, the properties of Kasch, (semi)perfect, semilocal, quasi-Frobenius, Artinian, and Noetherian coincide.  相似文献

Rickart Modules
The concept of right Rickart rings (or right p.p. rings) has been extensively studied in the literature. In this article, we study the notion of Rickart modules in the general module theoretic setting by utilizing the endomorphism ring of a module. We provide several characterizations of Rickart modules and study their properties. It is shown that the class of rings R for which every right R-module is Rickart is precisely that of semisimple artinian rings, while the class of rings R for which every free R-module is Rickart is precisely that of right hereditary rings. Connections between a Rickart module and its endomorphism ring are studied. A characterization of precisely when the endomorphism ring of a Rickart module will be a right Rickart ring is provided. We prove that a Rickart module with no infinite set of nonzero orthogonal idempotents in its endomorphism ring is precisely a Baer module. We show that a finitely generated module over a principal ideal domain (PID) is Rickart exactly if it is either semisimple or torsion-free. Examples which delineate the concepts and results are provided.  相似文献

We introduce the notions of “t-extending modules,” and “t-Baer modules,” which are generalizations of extending modules. The second notion is also a generalization of nonsingular Baer modules. We show that a homomorphic image (hence a direct summand) of a t-extending module and a direct summand of a t-Baer module inherits the property. It is shown that a module M is t-extending if and only if M is t-Baer and t-cononsingular. The rings for which every free right module is t-extending are called right Σ-t-extending. The class of right Σ-t-extending rings properly contains the class of right Σ-extending rings. Among other equivalent conditions for such rings, it is shown that a ring R is right Σ-t-extending, if and only if, every right R-module is t-extending, if and only if, every right R-module is t-Baer, if and only if, every nonsingular right R-module is projective. Moreover, it is proved that for a ring R, every free right R-module is t-Baer if and only if Z 2(R R ) is a direct summand of R and every submodule of a direct product of nonsingular projective R-modules is projective.  相似文献

A right module M over a ring R is said to be retractable if Hom R (M, N) ≠ 0 for each nonzero submodule N of M. We show that M ? R RG is a retractable RG-module if and only if M R is retractable for every finite group G. The ring R is (finitely) mod-retractable if every (finitely generated) right R-module is retractable. Some comparisons between max rings, semiartinian rings, perfect rings, noetherian rings, nonsingular rings, and mod-retractable rings are investigated. In particular, we prove ring-theoretical criteria of right mod-retractability for classes of all commutative, left perfect, and right noetherian rings.  相似文献

It is well known that the Rickart property of rings is not a left-right symmetric property. We extend the notion of the left Rickart property of rings to a general module theoretic setting and define 𝔏-Rickart modules. We study this notion for a right R-module M R where R is any ring and obtain its basic properties. While it is known that the endomorphism ring of a Rickart module is a right Rickart ring, we show that the endomorphism ring of an 𝔏-Rickart module is not a left Rickart ring in general. If M R is a finitely generated 𝔏-Rickart module, we prove that End R (M) is a left Rickart ring. We prove that an 𝔏-Rickart module with no set of infinitely many nonzero orthogonal idempotents in its endomorphism ring is a Baer module. 𝔏-Rickart modules are shown to satisfy a certain kind of nonsingularity which we term “endo-nonsingularity.” Among other results, we prove that M is endo-nonsingular and End R (M) is a left extending ring iff M is a Baer module and End R (M) is left cononsingular.  相似文献

A submodule N of a module M is idempotent if N = Hom(M, N)N. The module M is fully idempotent if every submodule of M is idempotent. We prove that over a commutative ring, cyclic idempotent submodules of any module are direct summands. Counterexamples are given to show that this result is not true in general. It is shown that over commutative Noetherian rings, the fully idempotent modules are precisely the semisimple modules. We also show that the commutative rings over which every module is fully idempotent are exactly the semisimple rings. Idempotent submodules of free modules are characterized.  相似文献

Let R be an associative ring with identity. A unital right R-module M is called “strongly finite dimensional” if Sup{G.dim (M/N) | N ≤ M} < +∞, where G.dim denotes the Goldie dimension of a module. Properties of strongly finite dimensional modules are explored. It is also proved that: (1) If R is left F-injective and semilocal, then R is left finite dimensional. (2) R is right artinian if and only if R is right strongly finite dimensional and right semiartinian. Some known results are obtained as corollaries.  相似文献

A torsion-free module M of finite rank over a discrete valuation ring R with prime p is co-purely indecomposable if M is indecomposable and rank M = 1 + dim R/pR (M/pM). Co-purely indecomposable modules are duals of pure finite rank submodules of the p-adic completion of R. Pure submodules of cpi-decomposable modules (finite direct sums of co-purely indecomposable modules) are characterized. Included are various examples and properties of these modules.  相似文献

An interesting result, obtaining by some theorems of Asano, Köthe and Warfield, states that: “for a commutative ring R, every module is a direct sum of uniform modules if and only if R is an Artinian principal ideal ring.” Moreover, it is observed that: “every ideal of a commutative ring R is a direct sum of uniform modules if and only if R is a finite direct product of uniform rings.” These results raise a natural question: “What is the structure of commutative rings whose all proper ideals are direct sums of uniform modules?” The goal of this paper is to answer this question. We prove that for a commutative ring R, every proper ideal is a direct sum of uniform modules, if and only if, R is a finite direct product of uniform rings or R is a local ring with the unique maximal ideal ? of the form ? = US, where U is a uniform module and S is a semisimple module. Furthermore, we determine the structure of commutative rings R for which every proper ideal is a direct sum of cyclic uniform modules (resp., cocyclic modules). Examples which delineate the structures are provided.  相似文献

Let R be a ring. M is said to be a minannihilator left R-module if r M l R (I) = IM for any simple right ideal I of R. A right R-module N is called simple-flat if Nl R (I) = l N (I) for any simple right ideal I of R. R is said to be a left simple-Baer (resp., left simple-coherent) ring if the left annihilator of every simple right ideal is a direct summand of R R (resp., finitely generated). We first obtain some properties of minannihilator and simple-flat modules. Then we characterize simple-coherent rings, simple-Baer rings, and universally mininjective rings using minannihilator and simple-flat modules.  相似文献

A module M R is defined to be strongly compressible (or SC for short) if for every essential submodule N of M, there exists X ? E(M) such that M ? X ? N. We show that a ring R is semiprime right Goldie iff R Ris SC module iff every right ideal of R is SC module iff every submodule of each progenerator of Mod-R is SC module. As corollaries of this result, we obtain some new module-theoretic characterizations of semiprime Goldie rings, prime (right) Goldie rings and Prüfer rings, etc., etc.,respectively. And the characterization theorem of semiprime Goldie rings of López-Permouth, Rizvi and Yousif by using weakly-injective modules can be regarded as a corollary of our results.  相似文献

The submodules with the property of the title (N ? M is strongly essential in M if I N is essential in I M for any index set I) are introduced and fully investigated.

It is shown that for each submodule N of M there exists a subset T ? M such that N + T is strongly essential submodule of M and (N:T) = Ann(T), T  ∩  N = 0. Basic properties of these objects and several examples are given and the counterparts of the related concepts to essential submodules are also introduced and studied. It is shown that each maximal left ideal of a left fully bounded ring is either a summand or strongly essential. Rings over which no module has a proper strongly essential submodule are characterized. It is also shown that the left Loewy rings are the only rings over which the essential submodules and strongly essential submodules of any left module coincide. Finally, a new characterization of left FBN rings is observed.  相似文献

Let R be a left coherent ring. We first prove that a right R-module M is strongly copure flat if and only if Ext i (M, C) = 0 for all flat cotorsion right R-modules C and i ≥ 1. Then we define and investigate copure flat dimensions of left coherent rings. Finally, we give some new characterizations of n-FC rings.  相似文献

Let R be a ring. A module MR is said to be GC2 if for any N≤ M with N? M, N is a direct summand of M. In this article, we give some characterizations and properties of GC2 modules and their endomorphism rings, and many results on C 2 modules and GC2 rings are generalized to GC2 modules.  相似文献

A right module M over a ring R is said to be ADS if for every decomposition M = ST and every complement T′ of S, we have M = ST′. In this article, we study and provide several new characterizations of this new class of modules. We prove that M is semisimple if and only if every module in σ[M] is ADS. SC and SI rings also characterized by the ADS notion. A ring R is right SC-ring if and only if every 2-generated singular R-module is ADS.  相似文献
