The transient fracture behavior of a functionally graded layered structure subjected to an in-plane impact load is investigated. The studied structure is composed of two homogeneous layers and a functionally graded interlayer with a crack perpendicular to the boundaries. The impact load is applied on the face of the crack. Fourier transform and Laplace transform methods are used to formulate the present problem in terms of a singular integral equation in Laplace transform domain. Considering variations of parameters such as the nonhomogeneity constant, the thickness ratio and the crack length, the dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIFs) in time domain are studied and some meaningful conclusions are obtained. The project supported by the National Science Foundation for Excellent Young Investigators (10325208), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (10432030) and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation (2004036018)The English text was polished by Ron Marshall.  相似文献

Using the integral transform and the Cauchy singular integral equation methods, the problem of an interface crack between two dissimilar piezoelectric layers under mechanical impacts is investigated under the permeable electrical boundary condition on the crack surface. The dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIFs) of both mode-I and II are determined. The effects of the crack configuration and the combinations of the constitutive parameters of the piezoelectric materials on the dynamic response are examined. The numerical calculation of the mode-I plane problem indicates that the DSIFs may be retarded or accelerated by specifying different combinations of material parameters. In addition, the parameters of the crack configuration, including the ratio of the crack length to the layer width and the ratio between the widths of two layers, exert a considerable influence on the DSIFs. The results seem useful for design of the piezoelectric structures and devices of high performance.  相似文献

A mechanical model was established for the antiplane dynamic fracture problem of a functionally graded coating–substrate structure with a coating crack perpendicular to the weak-discontinuous interface. The problem was reduced to a Cauchy singular integral equation by the methods of Laplace and Fourier integral transforms. Erdogan’s collocation method and the Laplace numerical inversion proposed by Miller and Guy were used to calculate the dynamic stress intensity factors. Three conclusions were drawn through parametric studies: (a) unlike the conclusion drawn for an interfacial crack, reducing the weak discontinuity of the interface will not necessarily decrease the dynamic stress intensity factor (DSIF) of the coating crack perpendicular to the interface; (b) increasing the stiffness of the substrate when that of the coating is fixed, or decreasing the stiffness of coating when that of the substrate is fixed, will be beneficial for the reduction of the DSIF of a coating crack perpendicular to the interface; and (c) the free surface has a greater influence on the DSIF than the interface does, and the effect of the interface on the DSIF is greater than that of the material stiffness in the crack-tip region.

The dynamic response of a functionally graded orthotropic strip with an edge crack perpendicular to the boundaries is studied. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously along the thickness direction. Laplace and Fourier transforms are applied to reduce the problem to a singular integral equation. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the influences of parameters such as the nonhomogeneity constant and geometry parameters on the dynamic stress intensity factors (SIFs).  相似文献

A solution is provided for the elastodynamic problem of a crack at an arbitrary angle to the graded interfacial zone in bonded media under the action of antiplane shear impact. The interfacial zone is modeled by a nonhomogeneous interlayer with the spatially varying shear modulus and mass density in terms of power functions between the two dissimilar, homogeneous half-planes. Based on the use of Laplace and Fourier integral transforms and the coordinate transformations of basic field variables, formulation of the transient crack problem is reduced to solving a Cauchy-type singular integral equation in the Laplace transform domain. The crack-tip response in the physical domain is recovered via the inverse Laplace transform and the values of dynamic mode III stress intensity factors are obtained as a function of time. A comprehensive parametric study is then presented of the effects of crack obliquity on the overshoot behavior of the transient crack-tip response, by plotting the peak values of the dynamic stress intensity factors versus the crack orientation angle for various material and geometric combinations of the bonded system.  相似文献

A hollow functionally graded composite cylinder under static torsion, which consists of an inner and outer elastic circular tube with a cylindrical interface crack, is studied in this work. By utilizing Fourier integral transform method, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a Cauchy singular integral equation, from which the numerical results of the stress intensity factor are obtained by the Lobatto–Chebyshev quadrature technique. Numerical results demonstrate the coupled effects of geometrical, physical, and functionally graded parameters on the interfacial fracture behavior.  相似文献

This paper has twofold aims. One is to study the dynamic response of a magnetoelectroelastic half-space with functionally graded coating containing crack at the interface when subjected to sudden impacts. Two different loading positions, where the material and crack surfaces are loaded respectively, are considered. By using the integral transform method, the problem is reduced to solving singular integral equations. Obtained numerical results show that the overshoots of dynamic fracture parameters are strongly amplified or reduced depending on negative or positive gradient, respectively for the case of the material surface being loaded suddenly. This implies that a functionally graded coating with a positive gradient index is preferable in engineering design due to its capability of preventing the structure from cracking. The second objective is to give a comparison of relevant dynamic parameters such as the intensity factors of stress and strain, energy release rate, and energy density factor, and their features are elucidated under dynamic combined loadings. It indicates that the strain intensity factor can overcome the drawbacks of the rest parameters, and may be chosen as an effective fracture parameter, while three others cannot be adopted as fracture criteria to describe the feature of onset of crack growth.  相似文献

In this paper, thermal response of an orthotropic functionally graded coating-substrate structure with a partially insulated interface crack under heat flux supply is considered. It is assumed that there exists thermal resistance to heat conduction through the crack region. The mixed boundary value problems are reduced to a system of singular integral equations and solved numerically. Higher order asymptotic terms for the singular integral kernels are considered to improve the accuracy and the convergence efficiency of the numerical integrals. Numerical results are presented to show the effects of the orthotropy parameters, thermo-elastic nonhomogeneity parameters, and dimensionless thermal resistance on the temperature distribution and the thermal stress intensity factors (SIFs).  相似文献

A theoretical treatment of antiplane crack problem of two collinear cracks on the two sides of and perpendicular to the interface between a functionally graded orthotropic strip bonded to an orthotropic homogeneous substrate is put forward. Various internal cracks and crack terminating at the interface and crack crossing the interface configurations are investigated, respectively. The problem is formulated in terms of a singular integral equation with the crack face displacement as the unknown variable. The asymptotic stress field near the tip of a crack crossing the interface is examined, and it is shown that, unlike the corresponding stress field in piecewise homogeneous materials, in this case, the “kink” in material property at the interface does not introduce any singularity. Numerical calculations are carried out, and the influences of the orthotropy and nonhomogeneous parameters and crack interactions on the mode III stress intensity factors are investigated.  相似文献

Due to the incompatibility of the interlaminar deformations, the interface debonding or cracking usually happens in a layered magnetoelectric(ME)structure under an applied load.In this paper, the transient responses of the anti-plane interface cracks in piezoelectric(PE)-piezomagnetic(PM)sandwich structures are studied by the standard methods of the integral transform and singular integral equation.Discussion on the numerical examples indicates that the PE-PM-PE structure under electric impact is more likely to fracture than the PM-PE-PM structure under a magnetic impact. The dynamic stress intensity factors(DSIFs)are more sensitive to the variation of the active layer thickness. The effects of the material constants on the DSIFs are dependent on the roles played by PE and PM media during the deformation process.  相似文献

In this study, the dynamic response of a coated piezoelectric strip containing a crack vertical to the interfaces under normal impact load is considered. Based on the superposition principle and the integral transform techniques, the solution in the Laplace transformed plane is obtained in terms of a singular integral equation. The order of stress singularity around the tip of the terminated crack is also obtained. The singular integral equation is solved by using the Gauss–Jacobi integration formula, and the numerical Laplace inversion is then carried out to obtain the resulting dynamic stress and electric displacement intensities. The effects of the material properties and the geometric parameters on the dynamic stress intensity factor and the dynamic energy density factors are shown graphically.  相似文献

Fractional differential constitutive relationships are introduced to depict the history of dynamic stress inten- sity factors (DSIFs) for a semi-infinite crack in infinite viscoelastic material subjected to anti-plane shear impact load. The basic equations which govern the anti-plane deformation behavior are converted to a fractional wave-like equation. By utilizing Laplace and Fourier integral transforms, the fractional wave-like equation is cast into an ordinary differential equation (ODE). The unknown function in the solution of ODE is obtained by applying Fourier transform directly to the boundary conditions of fractional wave-like equation in Laplace domain instead of solving dual integral equations. Analytical solutions of DSIFs in Laplace domain are derived by Wiener-Hopf technique and the numerical solutions of DSIFs in time domain are obtained by Talbot algorithm. The effects of four parameters α, β, b1, b2 of the fractional dif- ferential constitutive model on DSIFs are discussed. The numerical results show that the present fractional differential constitutive model can well describe the behavior of DSIFs of anti-plane fracture in viscoelastic materials, and the model is also compatible with solutions of DSIFs of anti-plane fracture in elastic materials.  相似文献

The dynamic fracture problem for a functionally graded piezoelectric plate containing a crack perpendicular to the free boundaries is considered in this study. It is assumed that the electroelastic properties of the medium vary continuously in the thickness direction. Integral transform techniques and dislocation density function are employed to reduce the problem to the solution of a singular integral equation. Mode I dynamic energy density factors are presented for an internal crack as well as an edge crack for various values of dimensionless parameters representing the size and location of the crack and the material nonhomogeneity.  相似文献

The mechanical model is established for a mode I arc-shaped crack along the interface between a functionally graded layer and a homogeneous cylinder. The displacement and stress fields are expressed in the form of infinite series by the method of variable separation. By introducing two dislocation density functions, the mixed boundary conditions of the crack are recast into a system of Cauchy singular integral equations, which are then solved numerically. Parametric studies on the stress intensity factors (SIFs) yield two aspects of guidelines for engineering designs. (a) The SIFs depend on the ratio between the outer and inner radii rather than their respective values, and 1.5 seems to be an optimal value for this ratio. (b) The outer graded layer should be stiffer than the inner homogeneous cylinder and large non-homogeneity parameter is beneficial to SIF reduction.  相似文献

The transient response of a piezoelectric strip with an eccentric crack normal to the strip boundaries under applied electromechanical impacts is considered. By using the Laplace transform, the mixed initial-boundary-value problem is reduced to triple series equations, then to a singular integral equation of the first kind by introducing an auxiliary function. The Lobatto–Chebyshev collocation technique is adopted to solve numerically the resulting singular integral equation. Dynamic field intensity factors and energy release rate are obtained for both a permeable crack and an impermeable crack. The effects of the crack position and the material properties on the dynamic stress intensity factor are examined and numerical results are presented graphically.  相似文献

The torsional impact response of a penny-shaped crack in an unbounded transversely isotropic solid is considered. The shear moduli are assumed to be functionally graded such that the mathematics is tractable. Laplace transform and Hankel transform are used to reduce the problem to solving a Fredholm integral equation. The crack tip stress fields are obtained. Investigated are the influence of material nonhomogeneity and orthotropy on the dynamic stress intensity factor. The peak value of the dynamic stress intensity factor can be suppressed by increasing the shear moduli's gradient and/or increasing the shear modulus in a direction perpendicular to the crack surface.  相似文献

Anti-plane dynamic fracture analysis is presented for functionally graded materials (FGM) with arbitrary spatial variations of material properties. The FGM with the material properties varying continuously in an arbitrary manner is modeled as a multi-layered medium with the elastic modulus and mass density varying linearly in each sub-layer and continuous at the interfaces between two adjacent sub-layers. With this linearly inhomogeneous multi-layered model, the problem of a crack in a graded interfacial zone bonded to two homogeneous half-spaces or in a coating bonded to a homogeneous half-space subjected to the anti-plane shear impact load is investigated. Laplace and Fourier transforms and transfer matrix are applied to reduce the associated mixed boundary value problem to a Cauchy singular integral equation which is solved numerically in the Laplace transformed domain. The dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIF) are obtained by using the numerical technique of Laplace inversion.  相似文献

The mechanical model was established for the anti-plane dynamic fracture problem for two collinear cracks on the two sides of and perpendicular to a weak-discontinuous interface between two materials with smoothly graded elastic properties, as opposed to a sharp interface with discontinuously changing elastic properties. The problem was reduced as a system of Cauchy singular integral equations of the first kind by Laplace and Fourier integral transforms. The integral equations were solved by Erdogan's collocation method and the dynamic stress intensity factors in the time domain were obtained through Laplace numerical inversion proposed by Miller and Guy. The influences of geometrical and physical parameters on the dynamic stress intensity factors were illustrated and discussed, based on which some conclusions were drawn: (a) to increase the thickness of the FGM strip on either side of the interface will be beneficial to reducing the DSIF of a crack perpendicular to a bi-FGM interface and embedded at the center of one of the FGM strips; (b) To increase the rigidity of the FGM strip where the crack is located will increase the DSIF. However, when the material in one side of the interface is more rigid, the DSIF of the interface-perpendicular embedded crack in the other side will be reduced; (c) To decrease the weak-discontinuity of a bi-FGM interface will not necessarily reduce the stress intensity factor of a crack perpendicular to it, which is different from the case of interfacial crack; (d) For two collinear cracks with equal half-length, when the distance between the two inner tips is less than about three times of the half-length, the interaction of them is intensified, however, when the distance is greater than this the interaction becomes weak.  相似文献

In this paper, the axisymmetric torsional problem of a coating structure consisting of a surface coating, a functionally graded layer and a substrate under a rigid cylindrical punch is investigated. The coating and substrate are homogeneous materials with distinct physical properties while the intermediate layer is inhomogeneous with its shear modulus changing exponentially along the thickness direction. The Hankel integral transform technique is employed to reduce the torsional problem to a singular integral equation with a Cauchy kernel. The circumferential shear stress and displacement fields in the coating structure are calculated by solving the integral equation numerically. The results show that the stiffness ratio has significant effect on the distribution of the circumferential stress and displacement at the interface.  相似文献
