We study conditions under which the Hausdorff quasi-uniformity UH of a quasi-uniform space (X,U) on the set P0(X) of the nonempty subsets of X is bicomplete.Indeed we present an explicit method to construct the bicompletion of the T0-quotient of the Hausdorff quasi-uniformity of a quasi-uniform space. It is used to find a characterization of those quasi-uniform T0-spaces (X,U) for which the Hausdorff quasi-uniformity of their bicompletion on is bicomplete.  相似文献

For a metric continuum X, we consider the hyperspaces X2 and C(X) of the closed and nonempty subsets of X and of subcontinua of X, respectively, both with the Hausdorff metric. For a given map we investigate the transitivity of the induced maps and . Among other results, we show that if X is a dendrite or a continuum of type λ and is a map, then C(f) is not transitive. However, if X is the Hilbert cube, then there exists a transitive map such that f2 and C(f) are transitive.  相似文献

For any space X, denote by dis(X) the smallest (infinite) cardinal κ such that κ many discrete subspaces are needed to cover X. It is easy to see that if X is any crowded (i.e. dense-in-itself) compactum then dis(X)?m, where m denotes the additivity of the meager ideal on the reals. It is a natural, and apparently quite difficult, question whether in this inequality m could be replaced by c. Here we show that this can be done if X is also hereditarily normal. Moreover, we prove the following mapping theorem that involves the cardinal function dis(X). If is a continuous surjection of a countably compact T2 space X onto a perfect T3 space Y then .  相似文献

We apply and develop an idea of E. van Douwen used to define D-spaces. Given a topological property P, the class P dual to P (with respect to neighbourhood assignments) consists of spaces X such that for any neighbourhood assignment there is YX with YP and . We prove that the classes of compact, countably compact and pseudocompact are self-dual with respect to neighbourhood assignments. It is also established that all spaces dual to hereditarily Lindelöf spaces are Lindelöf. In the second part of this paper we study some non-trivial classes of pseudocompact spaces defined in an analogous way using stars of open covers instead of neighbourhood assignments.  相似文献

It is well known that every pair of disjoint closed subsets F0,F1 of a normal T1-space X admits a star-finite open cover U of X such that, for every UU, either or holds. We define a T1-space X to be strongly base-normal if there is a base B for X with |B|=w(X) satisfying that every pair of disjoint closed subsets F0,F1 of X admits a star-finite cover B of X by members of B such that, for every BB, either or holds. We prove that there is a base-normal space which is not strongly base-normal. Moreover, we show that Rudin's Dowker space is strongly base-(collectionwise)normal. Strong zero-dimensionality on base-normal spaces are also studied.  相似文献

The main result of this paper is the following theorem, related to the missing link in the proof of the topological version of the classical result of Helly: Let be any family of simply connected compact subsets of R2 such that for every i,j∈{0,1,2} the intersections XiXj are path connected and is nonempty. Then for every two points in the intersection there exists a cell-like compactum connecting these two points, in particular the intersection is a connected set.  相似文献

We use the space associated with a guessing sequence on ω1 to show that it is consistent with CH that there exists a locally countable, first-countable, locally compact, perfectly normal, non-realcompact space of size 1 which does not contain any sub-Ostaszewski spaces. By a similar technique, it is shown to be consistent with that there exists a locally countable, first-countable, perfectly normal, non-realcompact space of size 1.  相似文献

In this note, we comment on D-spaces, linearly D-spaces and transitively D-spaces. We show that every meta-Lindelöf space is transitively D. If X is a weak -refinable TD-scattered space, then X is transitively D, where TD is the class of all transitively D-spaces. If X is a weak -refinable -scattered space, then X is a D-space, where is the class of all D-spaces, and hence every weak -refinable (or submetacompact) scattered space is a D-space. This gives a positive answer to a question mentioned by Martínez and Soukup. In the last part of this note, we show that if X is a weak -refinable space then X is linearly D.  相似文献

A Hausdorff topological group G is minimal if every continuous isomorphism f:GH between G and a Hausdorff topological group H is open. Significantly strengthening a 1981 result of Stoyanov, we prove the following theorem: For every infinite minimal abelian group G there exists a sequence of cardinals such that

We give a characterization of exponentiable monomorphisms in the categories of ω-complete posets, of directed complete posets and of continuous directed complete posets as those monotone maps f that are convex and that lift an element (and then a queue) of any directed set (ω-chain in the case of ) whose supremum is in the image of f (Theorem 1.9). Using this characterization, we obtain that a monomorphism f:XB in (, ) exponentiable in w.r.t. the Scott topology is exponentiable also in (, ). We prove that the converse is true in the category , but neither in , nor in .  相似文献

We consider completely regular Hausdorff spaces. In this paper we investigate the space of probability Radon measures P(X) on a space X and the property to be a Prohorov space. We prove that the space P(X) is sieve-complete if and only if X is sieve-complete. Every mapping generates the mapping . Some properties of the mapping P(φ) are studied. In particular, we investigate under which conditions the open continuous image of a Prohorov space is Prohorov.  相似文献
