We investigate the modulation instability of quasi-plane-wave optical beams in biased photorefractive-photovoltaic crystals by globally treating the space-charge field. The modulation instability growth rate is obtained, which depends on the external bias field, on the bulk photovoltaic effect, and on the ratio of the optical beam's intensity to that of the dark irradiance. Our analysis indicates that this modulation instability growth rate is identical to the modulation instability growth rate studied previously in biased photorefractive-nonphotovoltaic crystals when the bulk photovoltaic effect is negligible for shorted circuits, and predicts the modulation instability growth rate in open- and closed-circuit photorefractive-photovoltaic crystals when the external bias field is absent.  相似文献

The modulation instability of quasi-plane-wave optical beams is investigated in the frame of generalized Schrodinger equation with the nonlinear term of a general form. General expressions are derived for the dispersion relation, the critical transverse spatial frequency, as well as the instability growth rate. The analysis generalizes the known results reported previously. A detailed discussion on the modulation instability in biased centrosymmetric photorefractive media is also given.  相似文献

Using the temperature gradient method under high pressure and high temperature, we investigate the dependence of growing high-quality gem diamond crystals on the growth rates. It is found that the lower the growth rate of gem diamond crystals, the larger the temperature range of growing high-quality gem diamond crystals, and the easier the control of temperature. In particular, when growing gem diamonds under a very-low growth rate, the temperature range of growing high-quality gem diamonds can extend from a low-temperature pure {100} growth region to {100} {111} growth regions, and finally to a high-temperature only-{111}-growth region. When growing gem diamonds under a high growth rate, some metal inclusions in the growing diamonds always exist near the seeds, no matter whether the growth temperature is high or low. This result is not in agreement with the result of Sumitomo Electric Corporation in Japan.  相似文献

We show that the vector beam evolution equations in properly oriented biased photorefractive-photovoltaic crystals can exhibit bright-dark vector solitons, which result from both the bulk photovoltaic effect and the spatially non-uniform screening of the external bias field.By adjusting the polarization of the incident beam to obtain the appropriate ratio of two orthogonal components, these vector solitons can be established. When the bulk photovoltaic effect is negligible, thwese vector solitons are bright-dark vector screenging solitons. When the external field is absent, these vector solitons predict bright-dark vector photovoltaic solitons.  相似文献

This paper investigates the effects of walk-off among optical pulses on cross-phase modulation induced modulation instability in the normal dispersion region of an optical fibre with high-order dispersion. The results indicate that, in the case of high-order dispersion, the walk-off effect takes on new characteristics and will influence considerably the shape, position and especially the number of the spectral regions of the gain spectra of modulation instability. Not only the group-velocity mismatch, but also the difference of the third-order dispersion of two optical waves will alter the gain spectra of modulation instability but in different ways. Depending on the values of the walk-off parameters, the number of the spectral regions may increase from two to at most four, and the spectral shape and position may change too.  相似文献

Diamond growth instability at high temperature and high pressure (HPHT) has been elucidated by observing the cellular interface in diamond crystals. The HPHT diamond crystals grow layer by layer from solution of carbon in the molten catalyst. In the growth of any other cyrstals from solution, the growth interface is not stable and should be of the greatest significance to understand further the diamond growth mechanism.During the diamond growth, the carbon atoms are delivered to the growing diamond crystal by diffusion through a diamond crystal-solution boundary layer. In front of the boundary layer, there is a narrow constitutional supercooling zone related to the solubility difference between diamond and graphite in the molten catalyst. The diamond growth stability is broken, and the flat or planar growth interface transforms into a cellular interface due to the light supercooling. The phenomenon of solute trails in the diamonds was observed, the formation of solute trails was closely associated with the cellular interface.  相似文献

Three kinds of KH2PO4 raw material are used to grow deuterated potassium dihydrogen phosphate (DKDP) crystals by traditional and rapid growth methods, respectively. The growth habit dependence on the purity of raw material is described and analyzed. The optical properties including transmission spectra and laser-induced damage threshold of these crystals are measured. It is found that the growth method affects the optical properties of crystal more obviously than the raw material with the mass content of main metal ions below 1 ppm. Moreover, the morphology of the core in the observed damage sites indicates that an explosion process probably occurs during laser-induced breakdown.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of vectorial coupled-mode solitons in one-dimensional photonic crystals with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities. Starting from Maxwell's equations, the vectorial coupled-mode equations for the envelopes of two fundamental-frequency optical mode and one low-frequency mode components due to optical rectification are derived by means of the method of multiple scales. A set of coupled soliton solutions of the vectorial coupled-mode equations is provided. The results show that a modulation of the fundamental-frequency optical modes occurs due to the optical rectification field resulting from the quadratic nonlinearity. The optical rectification field disappears when the frequency of the fundamental-frequency optical fields approaches the edge of the photonic bands.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of a finite equilibrium flow and magnetic field on the Rayleigh-Taylor instability. It is found that the equilibrium flow only makes a frequency shift of perturbation and the growth rate of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability remains unchanged. However, the magnetic field can change the growth rate and, in particular,a very strong magnetic field suppresses the growth rate.  相似文献

Large high-quality type Ib diamond crystals have been grown with different seed surfaces by temperature gradient method at 5.5 CPa, 1500-1600K, with NiMnCo alloy as the metal solvent. Compared with {100} as the growth surface, the growth region of large high-quality diamond crystals with {111} as the growth surface at a higher growth rate shifts markedly from lower temperatures (suitable for {100}-facet growth) to higher temperatures (suitable for {111}-facet growth). However, regardless of different growth surfaces, {100} or {111}, the grown crystals of sheet-shaped shape are most difflcult for metal inclusions to be trapped into, and whether or not matched growth between the seed surfaces and the growth temperatures determines the crystal shapes. In view of the growth rates, large high-quality diamond crystals of sheet-shaped shapes can be grown at a growth rate of above 2.5 mg/h, while the growth rate of large high-quality diamond crystals should not be beyond 1.5 mg/h for tower-shaped crystals.  相似文献

In this paper, the Coulomb collisional efect of electron-ion on the growth rate of Weibel instability is investigated based on the semi-relativistic Maxwellian distribution function in dense and unmagnetized plasma. An analytical expression was derived for the dispersion relation of Weibel instability for two limit cases|ξ=ω′/k|| T|||≥1 and |ξ|≤1.In limit|ξ|≥1 the dispersion relation only includes a real part and in limit|ξ|≤1 the imaginary part of the frequency of waves’instability plays a role in the dispersion relation. In limit≤|ξ|1,the two quantitiesμandη,that are due to the relativistic and collisional efects, will appear in the growth rate of Weibel instability. The growth rate of Weible istability will be increased through decreasing the Coulomb collisional frequency and also increasing the temperature anisotropic parameter in strong relativistic limit.  相似文献

In terms of Darboux transformation, we have exactly solved the higher-order nonlinear Schrdinger equation that describes the propagation of ultrashort optical pulses in optical fibers. We discuss the modulation instability(MI) process in detail and find that the higher-order term has no effect on the MI condition. Under different conditions, we obtain Kuznetsov–Ma soliton and Akhmediev breather solutions of higher-order nonlinear Schrdinger equation. The former describes the propagation of a bright pulse on a continuous wave background in the presence of higher-order effects and the soliton's peak position is shifted owing to the presence of a nonvanishing background, while the latter implies the modulation instability process that can be used in practice to produce a train of ultrashort optical soliton pulses.  相似文献

The synthetic effects of group-velocity mismatch and cubic-quintic nonlinearity on cross-phase modulation induced modulation instability in loss single-mode optical fibers have been numerically investigated. The results show that the quintic nonlinearity plays a role similar to the case of neglecting the group-velocity mismatch in modifying the modulation instability, namely, the positive and negative quintic nonlinearities can still enhance and weaken the modulation instability, respectively. The group-velocity mismatch can considerably change the gain spectrum of modulation instability in terms of its shape, peak value, and position. In the normal dispersion regime, with the increase of the group-velocity mismatch parameter, the gain spectrum widens and then narrows, shifts to higher frequencies, and the peak value gets higher before approaching a saturable value. In the abnormal dispersion regime, two separated spectra may occur when the group-velocity mismatch is taken into account. With the increase of the group-velocity mismatch parameter, the peak value of the gain spectrum gets higher and shorter before tending to a saturable value for the first and second spectral regimes, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper,we investigate the modulation instability for generating femtosecond pulses in fibres with slowly decreasing dispersion.Higher-order dispersion and higher-order nonlinear effects are taken into account when the continuous wave or quasi-continuous wave evolves into sub-picosecond and femtosecond pulses by modulation instability in the optical fibres. Our research results show that the gain spectrum of the dispersion-decreasing fibres is much wider than that in conventional fibres. The third-order dispersion effect has no contribution to gain spectrum, while the self-steepening effect reduces the maximum value and gain bandwidth, and the Raman self-scattering effect widens the extent to which the modulation instability occurs.  相似文献

In this paper, the Coulomb collisional effect of electron-ion on the growth rate of Weibel instability is investigated based on the semi-relativistic Maxwellian distribution function in dense and unmagnetized plasma. An analytical expression was derived for the dispersion relation of Weibel instability for two limit cases [ξ = ω'/k‖T‖ 〉〉 1 and |ξ| 〈〈 1. In limit |ξ| 〉〉 1 the dispersion relation only includes a real part and in limit |ξ| 〈〈 1 the imaginary part of the frequency of waves' instability plays a role in the dispersion relation. In limit |ξ| 〈〈 1, the two quantities μ and η, that are due to the relativistic and collisional effects, will appear in the growth rate of Weibel instability. The growth rate of Weible istability will be increased through decreasing the Coulomb collisional frequency and also increasing the temperature anisotropic parameter in strong relativistic limit.  相似文献

PWO crystals doped with yttrium were grown with the Bridgman method in platinum crucible and by using an indigenously developed resistive heating furnace. After an exposure of γ-ray from a ^60Co source, with the dose rate of lS rad/h for 20h, the light output increases for about 15%, accompanied with vanishing of an optical absorption band at 420 nm. The excitation and emission spectra of PWO crystals were measured before and after irradiation with different dose rates. The optical absorption band at 420nm was also found in the PWO sample annealed in oxygen-rlch atmosphere. It is suggested that the absorption band at 42Onm is related to Pb^3 point defects existing in the PWO crystal. The unusual change of light output after irradiation probably results from the transformation of lead ions from Pb^3 to Pb^2 .  相似文献

A new means of generating all-optically high-repetition-rate pulse trains is proposed and numerically demonstrated in an optical fiber. Our numerical simulations show that, due to the modulation instability effect, the initial continuous-wave with a weak optical pulse instead of conventional weak sinusoidal modulation imposed on it can gradually evolve into high-repetition-rate pulse trains. However, the generated pulse trains take on different features from the conventional case in terms of their widths, intensities, intervals, numbers, and pedestals.  相似文献

The electric and magnetic energy distributions in photonic crystals (PC) are calculated by using the plane wave expansion (PWE) method. Even though the total electric and magnetic energy in each unit cell of photonic crystals are equal to each other, the ratio of electric and magnetic energy densities varies depending on the local position. Based on Fermi's golden rule, the optical gain is analysed in the full quantum framework that takes the nonuniform energy density ratio into account. This nonuniform energy density ratio in photonic crystals, defined in an equal form as gain modification factor, leads to spatially inhomogeneous modification of optical gain. Results reported in the paper provide a new perspective for analysing gain characteristics, as well as the lasing properties, in photonic crystals.  相似文献
