We study wild embeddings of S 1 in S n which are tame in a sense introduced by Quinn. We show that if is a finitely presented group with H 1()=H 2()=0, then any finiteness obstruction K 0() can be realized on the complement of such an embedded S 1. We also realize trivially symmetric K –1() obstructions on the complements of such embeddings. For trivially symmetric , the embeddings constructed are shown to be isotopy homogeneous.  相似文献

Let XS be a holomorphic map, and let RX×SX be an equivalence relation. The restriction of R to the fibre –1(S) is denoted by Rs. The quotient X/R is called a relative complex quotient, if the quotient map XX/R is holomorphic over S. Two cases are studied: (C) All fibres of are locally Rs-separable (relative Cartan quotient); (R) All fibres of are holomorphically convex, and Rs is given by tke holomorphic functions on –1 (s) (relative Remmert quotient).  相似文献

We find conditions under which the ratio of particle and antiparticle total scattering cross sections as s. If the forward elastic scattering amplitudes become purely real asymptotically, then their ratio tends to –1. We prove that /(s)1 for +(s)/m 2, where m is the -meson mass. We show that the asymptotic relations obtained have finite-energy analogues for some processes.  相似文献

The solution of ak-extremal problem is defined as the set of pairs (x i * , i),i = 1, ,k, where x t * isi th local minimum and i is the volume of the set of attraction of this minimum. A Bayesian estimate ofk and ( 1 , , k ) is constructed. This paper has been written while the author was a CNR visiting professor at the Institute of Mathematics of the Milano University.  相似文献

One determines all the minimal surfaces of the isotropic space, which simultaneously are affinminimal surfaces. A characteristic property of those surfaces is that the isotropic spherical imagines of the asymptotic lines of form two orthogonal pencils of circles. There are three types of such surfaces : first the well known right helicoid I , second an interesting transcendental surface II , and third the isotropic analogy III of the minimal surface ofEnneper. The surfaces permit cinematic generations. Especially II and III can be generated byClifford screws in a certain indefinite quasielliptic space. In the isotropic space conjugate to the surfaces are isotropic minimal surfaces * with plane lines of curvature. There are also three types of such surfaces: I * is a logarithmic surface of revolution, II * is an interesting transcendental surface, and III * is again the isotropic minimal surface ofEnnerper.  相似文献

In this paper we obtain pointwise two-sided estimates for the integral kernel of the semigroup associated with second-order elliptic differential operators –(a)+b 1+b 2+V with real measurable (singular) coefficients, on an open set R N . The assumptions we impose on the lower-order terms allow for the case when the semigroup exists on L p () for p only from an interval in [1,), neither enjoys a standard Gaussian estimate nor is ultracontractive in the scale L p (). We show however that the semigroup is ultracontractive in the scale of weighted spaces L p (,2dx) with a suitable weight and derive an upper and lower bound on its integral kernel.  相似文献

REF is the statement that every stationary subset of a cardinal reflects, unless it fails to do so for a trivial reason. The main theorem, presented in Sect. 0, is that under suitable assumptions it is consistent that REF and there is a which is +n -supercompact. The main concepts defined in Sect. 1 are PT, which is a certain statement about the existence of transversals, and the bad stationary set. It is shown that supercompactness (and even the failure of PT) implies the existence of non-reflecting stationary sets. E.g., if REF then for many PT(, 1). In Sect. 2 it is shown that Easton-support iteration of suitable Levy collapses yield a universe with REF if for every singular which is a limit of supercompacts the bad stationary set concentrates on the right cofinalities. In Sect. 3 the use of oracle c.c. (and oracle proper—see [Sh-b, Chap. IV] and [Sh 100, Sect. 4]) is adapted to replacing the diamond by the Laver diamond. Using this, a universe as needed in Sect. 2 is forced, where one starts, and ends, with a universe with a proper class of supercompacts. In Sect. 4 bad sets are handled in ZFC. For a regular {<+ : cf<} is good. It is proved in ZFC that if=cf>1 then {<+ : cf<} is the union of sets on which there are squares.  相似文献

Summary Consider a random walk S n on the integers, where the steps i have mean 0 and variance 2. Let T be the time of first self-intersection of the random walk. It is shown that, as , T grows at rate 2/3. More precisely, T2/3 has a non-degenerate limit distribution which can be described in terms of Brownian motion local time.Research supported by National Science Foundation Grant MCS80-02698.  相似文献

We consider an n-channel signal detection system. Each of its channels may contain (or not contain) a signal. We assume that the signal is a function of known shape observed in the white Gaussian noise of level > 0. Let k be the number of channels containing signals. We study the asymptotically minimax variant of the detection problem as n depending on k and on the relation signal-noise in the channels. Let 1, 2, ... be a sequence of independent identically distributed random variables with zero means. We consider the functional n = k=o n (S k ) where S1=0, Sk= i=1 k i (k1) and(x)=1 for x0,(x) = 0 for x<0. It is readily seen that n is the time spent by the random walk Sn, n0, on the positive semi-axis after n steps. For the simplest walk the asymptotics of the distribution P (n = k) for n and k, as well as for k = O(n) and k/n<1, was studied in [1]. In this paper we obtain the asymptotic expansions in powers of n–1 of the probabilities P(hn = nx) and P(nx1 n nx2) for 0<1, x = k/n 2<1, 0<1x122<1.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 15, No. 4, pp. 613–620, April, 1974.The author wishes to thank B. LetX be the solution of the SDE:dX t = (X t)dB t +b(X t)dt, with andb C b (R) such that >0 for some constant , andB a real Brownian motion. Let be the law ofX onE=C([0, 1],R) andk E* – {0}, whereE* is the topological dual space ofE. Consider the classical form: k (u, v)=u / kv / kd, whereu andv are smooth functions onE. We prove that, if k is closable for anyk in a dense subset ofE* and if the smooth functions are contained in the domain of the generator of the closure of k , must be a constant function.  相似文献

Let A be a self-adjoint elliptic second-order differential operator, let (, ) be an inner gap in the spectrum of A, and let B(t) = A + tW * W, where W is a differential operator of higher order. Conditions are obtained under which the spectrum of the operator B(t) in the gap (, ) is either discrete, or does not accumulate to the right-hand boundary of the spectral gap, or is finite. The quantity N(, A, W, ), (, ), > 0 (the number of eigenvalues of the operator B(t) passing the point (, ) as t increases from 0 to ) is considered. Estimates of N(, A, W, ) are obtained. For the perturbation W * W of a special form, the asymptotics of N(, A, W, ) as + is given. Bibliography: 5 titles.  相似文献

We consider a quasilinear elliptic problem whose left-hand side is a Leray-Lions operator of p-Laplacian type. If p < < N and the right-hand side is a Radon measure with singularity of order at x0A , then any supersolution in W1,p() has singularity of order at least (–p)/(p–1) at x0. In the proof we exploit a pointwise estimate of A-superharmonic solutions, due to Kilpeläinen and Malý, which involves Wolff's potential of Radon's measure.  相似文献

LetF be a finite set of cardinality ¦F¦ =q 2,n 1 an integer and :F n×Fn0 theHamming metric. Acode isomorphism C D between two block codesC,D Fn is defined as an isometry which can be extended to an isometry of the whole space Fn. Any permutation S n of the positions canonically induces a so-calledequivalence map Aut Fn; any system (1,2,...,n) ofn permutations of the character setF induces a so-calledconfiguration Aat Fn. The group Aut Fn of all isometries of Fn turns out to be semidirect product of the configuration group with the symmetric group of degreen. The codeword estimating failure probability of a maximum likelihood codeword estimator for aq-nary symmetric channel does not depend on the transmitted codeword, if the automorphism group of the code acts transitively on the set of codewords. When using a systematic (n, k)-encoder, the symbol decoding failure probability does not depend on the transmitted symbol or on the time of transmission if the configuration group and the automorphism group act transitively on the set of codewords resp. on the set of thek information positions. In memoriam Giuseppe Tallini  相似文献

We consider in n ,n2, the curve = (t,t 2 ,...,t n ), 0t0,0>0 a small number. We study the boundedness of operatorsT ,>0, defined by multipliers which present singularities along . Our results are derived from a sharp estimate on a suitable maximal function. In the casen=2 theT 's are Bochner-Riesz operators and our results coincide with the known ones.  相似文献

We introduce two new local 1-indices of the same type as the Bourgain 1-index; the +1-index and the +1-weakly null index. We show that the +1-weakly null index of a Banach space X is the same as the Szlenk index of X, provided X does not contain 1. The +1-weakly null index has the same form as the Bourgain 1-index: if it is countable it must take values for some <1. The different 1-indices are closely related and so knowing the Szlenk index of a Banach space helps us calculate its 1-index, via the +1-weakly null index. We show that I(C())=^1++1.  相似文献

For anyt0, the pointz=B t is called a one-sided cone point with angle if there exist >0 and a wedgeW(,z) with vertexz and angle such thatB sW(,z) for everys[t, t+]. In this paper we establish two results concerning algebraic (,+)-actions on n . First, let be an algebraic (,+)-action on 3. By a result of Miyanishi, its ring of invariants is isomorphic to [t 1,t 2]. Iff 1,f 2 generate this ring, the quotient map of is the mapF:32,x(f 1(x), f2(x)). By using some topological arguments we prove thatF is always surjective. Secon, we are interested in dominant polynomial mapsF: n n-1 whose connected components of their generic fibers are contractible. For such maps, we prove the existence of an algebraic (,+)-action on n for whichF is invariant. Moreover we give some conditions so thatF*([t 1,...,t n-1 ]) is the ring of invariants of .Dedicated to all my friends and my family  相似文献
