We shall prove the equivalences of a non-degenerate circle-preserving map and a Mobius transformation in Rn, of a non-degenerate geodesic-preserving map and an isometry in Hn, of a non-degenerate line-preserving map and an affine transformation in Rn. That a map is non-degenerate means that the image of the whole space under the map is not a circle, or geodesic or line respectively. These results hold without either injective or surjective, or even continuous assumptions, which are new and of a fundamental nature in geometry.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to prove the partial regularity of the harmonic maps with potential. The main difficulty caused by the potential is how to find the equation satisfied by the scaling function. Under the assumption on the potential we can obtain the equation, however, for a general potential, even if it is smooth, the partial regularity is still open.  相似文献

We observe that the analogue of the Gelfand–Zeitlin action on , which exists on any symplectic manifold M with an Hamiltonian action of , has a natural interpretation as a residual action, after we identify M with a symplectic quotient of . We also show that the Gelfand–Zeitlin actions on and on the regular part of can be identified with natural Hamiltonian actions on spaces of rational maps into full flag manifolds, while the Gelfand–Zeitlin action on the whole corresponds to a natural action on a space of rational maps into the manifold of half-full flags in . A map of metric spaces f: XY satisfying the inequality $$ \left| {f(x) - f(y)} \right| \leqslant C\left| {x - y} \right|^\alpha $$ for some C and α and all x, yX is called a Hölder map with exponent α. V. I. Arnold posed the following problem: Does there exist a Höldermap from the square onto the cube with exponent 2/3? The firstmain theorem of this paper gives a general method for constructing Höldermaps of compact metric spaces. This construction yields, in particular, a dimension-raising map f: I n I m with Hölder exponent arbitrarily close to m/n for m > n > 1 and a map I 1I m with Hölder exponent 1/m. The second main theorem states the nonexistence of a regular fractal map f: I n I m with Hölder exponent n/m from the n-cube onto the m-cube for m < 2n.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive the first and second variation formulas for JC-harmonic maps between Finsler manifolds, and when F″≤ 0 and n ≥ 3, we prove that there is no nondegenerate stable F-harmonic map between a Riemannian unit sphere Sn and any compact Finsler manifold.  相似文献

In this paper, we define the core entropy for postcritically-finite Newton maps and study its continuity within this family. We show that the entropy function is not continuous in this family, which is different from the polynomial case, and describe completely the continuity of the entropy function at the generic parameters.  相似文献

Consider the following problem. Can a set of numbers be realized as boundary covering indices of a covering map between surfaces? How to realize them? A set of equivalent criteria for this problem are found, which can be checked by a finite algorithm. Furthermore, the algorithm will also construct a solution if such one exists. As an application, a well_known group of necessary conditions are shown to be not sufficient in infinitely many cases, while in most cases, numbers satisfying them are realizable.  相似文献

In 1999, Bates, Johnson, Lindenstrauss, Preiss and Schechtman asked whether a Banach space that is a uniform quotient of ? p , 1 < p ≠ 2 < ∞, must be isomorphic to a linear quotient of ? p . We apply the geometric property (β) of Rolewicz to the study of uniform and Lipschitz quotient maps, and answer the above question positively for the case 1 < p < 2. We consider versions of Malliavin calculus on path spaces of compact manifolds with diffusion measures, defining Gross–Sobolev spaces of differentiable functions and proving their intertwining with solution maps, , of certain stochastic differential equations. This is shown to shed light on fundamental uniqueness questions for this calculus including uniqueness of the closed derivative operator d and Markov uniqueness of the associated Dirichlet form. A continuity result for the divergence operator by Kree and Kree is extended to this situation. The regularity of conditional expectations of smooth functionals of classical Wiener space, given , is considered and shown to have strong implications for these questions. A major role is played by the (possibly sub-Riemannian) connections induced by stochastic differential equations: Damped Markovian connections are used for the covariant derivatives.  相似文献

We study forgetful maps between Deligne–Mostow moduli spaces of weighted points on \mathbbP1{\mathbb{P}^1} , and classify the forgetful maps that extend to a map of orbifolds between the stable completions. The cases where this happens include the Livné fibrations and the Mostow/Toledo maps between complex hyperbolic surfaces. They also include a retraction of a 3-dimensional ball quotient onto one of its 1-dimensional totally geodesic complex submanifolds.  相似文献
