Two polymerizable surfactants (surfmers), namely, monododecyl itaconate (MDDI) and monocetyl itaconate (MCI), were synthesized by reacting itaconic anhydride with 1‐dodecanol and cetyl alcohol, respectively. A series of uncrosslinked and crosslinked surface‐carboxylated latexes were prepared from styrene and styrene–divinylbenzene, respectively, using varying amounts of these two surfmers. The latexes were characterized by gravimetry, dynamic light scattering, and conductometric titration in order to obtain the conversion, particle size distribution, and concentration of surface carboxyl groups, respectively. The size of latex varied between 41–72 nm and was seen to depend inversely on the surfmer concentration. In the case of the soluble polystyrene latexes, solution 1H NMR spectra provided conclusive evidence for surfmer incorporation into the polymer chain. Comparison of the incorporation levels determined by NMR with the surface carboxylic acid concentrations in the latexes, determined by conductometric titrations, revealed that the majority of the surfmers, as ancticipated, were present on the latex surface. The study of the stability of the latexes to varying salt concentrations clearly demonstrated that the smaller‐size latexes having higher surface carboxyl group density exhibited far improved stability when compared with the larger‐size ones having lower surface carboxyl group density. Similarly, enhanced freeze‐thaw stability was also observed for the smaller‐size latexes. MCI‐based latexes exhibited marginally improved stability compared with those prepared using MDDI, which again seems to be because of the higher surface functional group density in the former. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic and anionic amphiphilic monomers (surfmers) were synthesized and used to stabilize particles in miniemulsion polymerization. A comparative study of classical cationic and anionic surfactants and the two surfmers was conducted with respect to the reaction rates and molecular weight distributions of the formed polymers. The reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer process was used in the miniemulsion polymerization reactions to control the molecular weight distribution. The reaction rates of the surfmer‐stabilized miniemulsion polymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate were similar (in most cases) to those of the classical‐surfactant‐stabilized miniemulsion polymerizations. The final particle sizes were also similar for polystyrene latexes stabilized by the surfmers and classical surfactants. However, poly(methyl methacrylate) latexes stabilized by the surfmers had larger particle sizes than latexes stabilized by classical surfactants. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, different emulsifiers were used to improve the bonding performance and freeze–thaw stability of renewable starch-based wood adhesive. The improved bonding performance and freeze–thaw stability were supported by the enhanced shear strength, grafted parameters, and viscosity stability after repeated freeze–thaw cycling. ζ-Potential determination, differential scanning calorimetry and pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance analysis indicated that the emulsifiers improve the grafting of vinyl acetate monomers into the starch bonds via free radical vinyl polymerization and hinder the aggregation of starch molecules. Among the emulsifiers tested, sodium dodecyl sulfate showed the highest improvement in the bonding performance and freeze–thaw stability of starch-based wood adhesives.  相似文献

Polymerizable styrenic surfactants (surfmers) and nonreactive analogs, have been applied in emulsion copolymerization of acrylic monomers in a seeded semibatch process. Stable core-shell latexes with low levels of coagulum and controlled particle size have been obtained; some of them, with either steric or electrosteric stabilization, display excellent stability to electrolytes, freeze–thaw cycles, and shear flocculation. In addition, the reactive surfactants lead to films with superior performance due to reduced migration of surfactant to the surface (contact angle measurements) and dimensional stability when the films are dipped in water, as well as less water uptake. A polymerizable cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant (CQAS) based on 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) was successfully synthesized via quaternization reaction. The product was characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and its critical micelle concentration (CMC) was obtained by surface tension measurement. The surfmer acted well as comonomer and surfactant to stabilize monomer droplets during miniemulsion polymerization. To identify whether this system undergoes miniemulsion nucleation mechanism, surface tension, particle size, and Ndroplet/Nparticle of the system were also measured. The effect of concentration and counter‐ion of the surfmer, and pH value of the system were systematically investigated by kinetic analysis and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The resulting nanopore microspheres were observed by transmission electron micrograph (TEM) and field emission scanning electron micrograph (FESEM) and showed the nanopore morphology with reasonable stability. 研究了亲水性单体AA和引发剂K2S2O8用量对三元共聚物(MMA/BA/AA)无皂乳液(pH=8)的电解质稳定性、冻融稳定性和机械稳定性的影响。当乳液电解质稳定性最好时存在AA和K2S2O8用量最佳值,而乳液的机械稳定性则随AA和K2S2O8用量增大而迅速提高。乳液中加入丙酮可以改善其稳定性。  相似文献

Cationic latexes were prepared through emulsion copolymerization of styrene(St) and butyl acrylate(BA) with a cationic surfactant,cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB).Latex properties,including particle size,size distribution,ζpotential,surface tension and monomer conversion,were determined for latexes prepared with different CTAB amounts. Evolution of these properties during emulsion polymerization was followed in order to understand the mechanism of the particles formation.Results showed that both particle size andζpotential were function of polymerization time and latex solids.Parallel emulsion polymerizations with cationic,anionic charged initiator and charge-free initiators were also carried out,the latex properties were determined at different polymerization time.All these results were attentively interpreted based on the mechanisms of emulsion polymerization,surfactant adsorption and latex particle stabilization.  相似文献

Isothermal phase diagrams of the system cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/n‐butanol/n‐octane/water were constructed, and the effect of the oil (n‐octane) contents on the microemulsions was studied at 40 °C. We determined the microemulsion structures of two systems, CTAB/n‐butanol/10% n‐octane/water and sodium dodecyl sulfonate (As)/n‐butanol/20% styrene/water, by conductivity measurements to investigate the polymerization of acrylamide and styrene in the two microemulsion systems. The polymerization kinetics of the water‐soluble monomer acrylamide in CTAB micelles and the different CTAB/n‐butanol/10% n‐octane/water microemulsion media [water‐in‐oil (W/O), bicontinuous (BC), and oil‐in‐water (O/W)] were studied with water‐soluble sodium bisulfite as the initiator. The maximum polymerization rate in CTAB micelles was found at the second critical micelle concentration. A mechanism of polyacrylamide formation and growth was proposed. A connection between the structures of the microemulsions and the polymerization rates was observed; the maximum polymerization rate occurred at two transition points, from W/O to BC and from BC to O/W, and the polyacrylamide molecular weights, which depended on the structures of the microemulsions, were also found. A square‐root dependence of the polymerization rates on the initiator concentrations was obtained in CTAB micelles and O/W microemulsion media. The polymerization of the oil‐soluble monomer styrene in different As/n‐butanol/20% styrene/water microemulsion media (W/O, BC, and O/W) was also investigated with different initiators: water‐soluble potassium persulfate and oil‐soluble azobisisobutyronitrile. A similar connection between the structures of the microemulsions and the conversions of styrene in CTAB/n‐butanol/10% n‐octane/water for the polymerization of acrylamide was observed again. The structures of the microemulsions had an important role in the molecular weights and sizes of polystyrene. The polystyrene particles were 10–20 nm in diameter in BC microemulsion media and 30–60 nm in diameter in O/W microemulsion media according to transmission electron microscopy. Size‐controllable polypyrrole (PPy)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites have been synthesized by in situ chemical oxidation polymerization directed by various concentrations of cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). Raman spectra, FTIR, SEM, and TEM were used to characterize their structure and morphology. These results showed that the composites are core (MWCNT)–shell (PPy) tubular structures with the thickness of the PPy layer in the range of 20–40 nm, depending on the concentration of CTAB. Raman and FTIR spectra of the composites are almost identical to those of PPy alone. The electrical conductivities of these composites are 1–2 orders of magnitude higher than those of PPy without MWCNTs. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic latex particles with surface amino groups were prepared by a multistep batch emulsion polymerization. In the first one or two steps, monodisperse cationic latex particles to be used as the seed were synthesized, and in the third step, two different amino‐functionalized monomers [aminoethylmethacrylate hydrochloride (AEMH) and vinylbenzylamine hydrochloride (VBAH)] were used to synthesize the final functionalized latex particles. 2,2′‐Azobisisobutyramidine dihydrochloride was used as the initiator, and different concentrations of two quaternary ammonium emulsifiers with hydrophobic chains of different lengths were examined. To characterize the final latexes yields were obtained gravimetrically, and particle size distributions and average particle diameters were determined by transmission electron microscopy and photon correlation spectroscopy. The amount of amino groups was determined by fluorimetry. The effect of the amino‐functional monomer used on the final latexes and the colloidal behavior of the system were studied. The influence of the different conditions utilized to synthesize the latexes on the colloidal stability of the particles was evaluated in terms of the Fuchs stability ratio and electrophoretic mobility. High yields of the amino‐functional monomers were obtained. Surface amino, amidine, and quaternary ammonium groups provided the cationic character. Electrochemically induced surface‐initiated atom‐transfer radical polymerization is traced by in situ AFM technology for the first time, which allows visualization of the polymer growth process. It affords a fundamental insight into the surface morphology and growth mechanism simultaneously. Using this technique, the polymerization kinetics of two model monomers were studied, namely the anionic 3‐sulfopropyl methacrylate potassium salt (SPMA) and the cationic 2‐(metharyloyloxy)ethyltrimethylammonium chloride (METAC). The growth of METAC is significantly improved by screening the ammonium cations by the addition of ionic liquid electrolyte in aqueous solution.  相似文献

Controllable synthesis of conducting polypyrrole nanostructures   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Wire-, ribbon-, and sphere-like nanostructures of polypyrrole have been synthesized by solution chemistry methods in the presence of various surfactants (anionic, cationic, or nonionic surfactant) with various oxidizing agents [ammonium persulfate (APS) or ferric chloride (FeCl3), respectively]. The surfactants and oxidizing agents used in this study have played a key role in tailoring the nanostructures of polypyrrole during the polymerization. It is inferred that the lamellar structures of a mesophase are formed by self-assembly between the cations of a long chain cationic surfactant [cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) or dodeyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)] and anions of oxidizing agent APS. These layered mesostructures are presumed to act as templates for the formation of wire- and ribbon-like polypyrrole nanostructures. In contrast, if a short chain cationic surfactant octyltrimethylammonium bromide (OTAB) or nonionic surfactant poly(ethylene glycol) mono-p-nonylphenyl ether (Opi-10) is used, sphere-like polypyrrole nanostructures are obtained, whichever of the oxidizing agents mentioned above is used. In this case, micelles resulting from self-assembly among surfactant molecules are envisaged to serve as the templates while the polymerization happens. It is also noted that, if anionic surfactant sodium dodeyl surfate (SDS) is used, no characteristic nanostructures of polypyrrole were observed. This may be attributed to the doping effect of anionic surfactants into the resulting polypyrrole chains, and as a result, micelles self-assembled among surfactant molecules are broken down during the polymerization. The effects of monomer concentration, surfactant concentration, and surfactant chain length on the morphologies of the resulting polypyrrole have been investigated in detail. The molecular structures, composition, and electrical properties of the nanostructured polypyrrole have also been investigated in this study.  相似文献

Herein we report the effect of (chloride salt) electrolytes on the mixed micellization of (equimolar) a cationic gemini (dimeric) surfactant, hexanediyl-1,6-bis(dimethylcetylammonium bromide) (16-6-16), and a cationic conventional (monomeric) surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in aqueous solutions. In absence and presence of (chloride salt) MCl (where M?Li, Na, and K) electrolytes, the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of mixed (16-6-16 + CTAB) surfactants was measured by surface tension measurements. With increasing the concentration of electrolyte, the CMCs were increasing. The surface properties and the thermodynamic parameters of the mixed micellar systems were also evaluated. From these evaluated thermodynamic parameters, it was found that in presence of electrolyte the stability of the mixed micellar system is more.  相似文献

讨论了CTAB/SDBS复配比例、体系浓度对其囊泡自发形成的影响和不同制备方法与放置时间对囊泡尺寸的影响,同时用TEM考察了囊泡的结构与形态。通过TEM发现囊泡之间有相互聚集融合变大的趋势,粒径分析也发现随放置时间延长囊泡尺寸增大。所以这里采用聚合法来改善囊泡的稳定性。经粒径分析证实经聚合法处理的囊泡其尺寸明显比未处理的稳定。  相似文献

分别用阳离子表面活性剂十六烷基三甲基溴化铵(CTAB)、阴离子表面活性剂十二烷基磺酸钠(SDS)以及二者混合物(CTAB-SDS)的水溶液处理天然蒙脱土。 用红外光谱和X射线衍射比较了它们对蒙脱土结构的影响。 证明CTAB及CTAB-SDS处理蒙脱土的层间距分别由1.5420 nm增大至2.1946和1.8935 nm。 表明CTAB插入蒙脱土层间,且CTAB及CTAB-SDS处理蒙脱土在苯乙烯中分散性能明显提高,对有机物表现出良好的吸附性;而阴离子表面活性剂未进入蒙脱土层间,蒙脱土的结构和性能几乎未变。  相似文献

分别以2种阴离子表面活性剂(SDS、SDBS)、3种季铵盐阳离子表面活性剂(CTAB、TTAB、DTAB)和2种季铵盐型双子表面活性剂(12-3-12、12-4-12)修饰碳糊电极。通过原子力显微镜、接触角以及分析物在电极表面的电化学行为探讨了不同表面活性剂在电极表面的吸附情况,推测在浓度大于临界胶束浓度(CMC)时,季铵盐型阳离子表面活性剂CTAB、TTAB、12-3-12和12-4-12在碳糊电极表面形成了圆柱形的表面胶团,而DTAB和SDS可能是饱和单分子层吸附。以BPA为分析物,研究了表面活性剂修饰电极对BPA的电化学增敏机理,结果表明修饰电极对双酚A(BPA)的电化学增敏作用主要是因为表面胶团对BPA的增溶作用,表面活性剂和BPA间的阳离子-π作用是表面胶团增溶BPA的主要原因。  相似文献

The α‐chymotrypsin activity was tested in aqueous media with the presence of novel cationic amine–based gemini surfactant, with different spacer chain lengths and head group size, and also compared with the cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and cetyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (CTPB) surfactants and aqueous buffer only. The p‐nitrophenyl acetate (PNPA) hydrolysis rate was monitored in the presence of the surfactant concentration at 30°C. Most of these gemini surfactants gave higher catalytic activity as compared to cationic CTAB and CTPB. The highest superactivity was measured in the presence of gemini 16‐12‐16, [dodecanediyl‐1,12‐bis(cetyldimethylammonium bromide)] surfactant at pH 7.5. The catalytic reaction follows the Michaelis–Menten mechanism. The catalytic rate constants, kcat, show the same profile that the catalytic affinity; KM being enhanced with increasing space chain length. The results are favorable for considering that the amine‐based gemini surfactant influences more than both the aqueous and cationic micellar media.  相似文献

Polymerizable surfactants (surfmers) 12-acryloyloxy-dodecanoic acid and 11-acrylamidoundecanoic acid and their respective sodium salts were prepared and then polymerized to form their corresponding oligomers using reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT). Different concentrations of both the surfmers, their sodium salts, and their RAFT oligomers were used as polysoaps in the emulsion polymerization of styrene. Stabilities of the pre-emulsions before polymerization were determined and compared. After polymerization, particle sizes and polydispersities of the resulting polystyrene latices were determined. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was used as a reference surfactant to compare the particle sizes and stabilities of the pre-emulsions prepared using surfmers and polymeric surfactants (polysoaps) as particle stabilizers. Emulsion polymerization of styrene using these surfmers and polysoaps all led to latices which were stable for a period of more than six months, as indicated by constant particle sizes, whereas latices prepared using the conventional surfactant, SDS, were not as stable.  相似文献

[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride (MATMAC), and vinylbenzyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (VBTMAC) were chosen to be used as ionic comonomers in the emulsion polymerization of styrene. The cationic nature of the two comonomers is the same (quaternary ammonium salts), however the styrene derivate (VBTMAC) is more hydrophobic than the methacrylic one (MATMAC). With the more hydrophobic cationic comonomer (VBTMAC) higher conversions were obtained due to the in situ creation of an amphiphilic copolymer with styrene and faster rates of polymerization were observed by increasing the cationic comonomer concentration. The same behavior was observed with the more hydrophilic cationic comonomer (MATMAC) at concentrations up to 0.012 M. At higher concentrations the ionic strength controls the colloidal stability of the system and coagulation occurs.  相似文献

A high‐throughput, sensitive, and rugged liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) method for the rapid quantitation of β ‐hydroxy‐β ‐methylbutyrate (HMB) in human plasma has been developed and validated for routine use. The method uses 100 μL of plasma sample and employs protein precipitation with 0.1% formic acid in methanol for the extraction of HMB from plasma. Sample extracts were analyzed using LC–MS/MS technique under negative mode electrospray ionization conditions. A 13C–labeled stable isotope internal standard was used to achieve accurate quantitation. Multiday validation was conducted for precision, accuracy, linearity, selectivity, matrix effect, dilution integrity (2×), extraction recovery, freeze–thaw sample stability (three cycles), benchtop sample stability (6 h and 50 min), autosampler stability (27 h) and frozen storage sample stability (146 days). Linearity was demonstrated between 10 and 500 ng/mL. Inter‐day accuracies and coefficients of variation (CV) were 91.2–98.1 and 3.7–7.8%, respectively. The validated method was proven to be rugged for routine use to quantify endogenous levels of HMB in human plasma obtained from healthy volunteers.  相似文献
