An analytical and numerical study is presented to show that buoyancy-opposed mixed convection in a vertical porous duct with circular cross-section is unstable. The duct wall is assumed to be impermeable and subject to a uniform heat flux. A stationary and parallel Darcy’s flow with a non-uniform radial velocity profile is taken as a basic state. Stability to small-amplitude perturbations is investigated by adopting the method of normal modes. It is proved that buoyancy-opposed mixed convection is linearly unstable, for every value of the Darcy–Rayleigh number, associated with the wall heat flux, and for every mass flow rate parametrised by the Péclet number. Axially invariant perturbation modes and general three-dimensional modes are investigated. The stability analysis of the former modes is carried out analytically, while general three-dimensional modes are studied numerically. An asymptotic analytical solution is found, suitable for three-dimensional modes with sufficiently small wave number and/or Péclet number. The general conclusion is that the onset of instability selects the axially invariant modes. Among them, the radially invariant and azimuthally invariant mode turns out to be the most unstable for all possible buoyancy-opposed flows.  相似文献

An attainable lower boundary of the three-dimensional Coulomb-Tresca invariant is constructed to facilitate the search of plasticity conditions for isotropic bodies which, just as the Tresca-Saint Venant plasticity condition, ensure the hyperbolic analytic type of three-dimensional equations of the mathematical theories of plasticity based on the generalized associate flow law. The construction is performed by using the system of three “two-dimensional” tangential stresses related to the given three-dimensional stress state. It is proved that the Coulomb-Tresca invariant attains its lower bound in any plane strain state where the out-of-plane principal normal stress is intermediate (or median).  相似文献

It is shown that the flexible spherical pendulum undergoes purely slow motions with master and slaved components. The family of slow motions is realized as a three-dimensional invariant manifold in phase space. This manifold is computed analytically by applying the method of geometric singular perturbations. This manifold is nonlinear and for all energy and angular momentum levels is characterized precisely by three PO (proper orthogonal) modes. Its submanifold of zero angular momentum is a two-dimensional invariant manifold; it is the geometric realization of a nonclassical nonlinear normal mode. This normal mode is characterized precisely by two PO modes. The slaved slow dynamics are characterized precisely by a single PO mode. The stability of the slow invariant manifold as well as interactions between fast and slow dynamics are considered.  相似文献

This paper describes a method for identifying and visualising the three-dimensional geometry of focal (vortex) structures in complex flows. The method is based primarily on the classification of the local topology as it is identified from the values of the velocity gradient tensor invariants. The identification of the local topology is reference frame invariant. Therefore, focal (vortex) structures can be unambiguously identified in these flows. A novel flow visualisation method is introduced whereby focal structures are rendered using a solid model view of the local topology. This new approach is applied to the identification of focal structures in three-dimensional plane mixing layer and plane wake flows.  相似文献

A class of mappings is presented, parameterized by a variable η, that operates on tensorial expressions to yield equivalent matrical expressions which are then easily evaluated, either numerically or symbolically, using standard matrix operations. The tensorial expressions considered involve scalar, second- and fourth- order tensors, double contractions, inversion and transposition. Also addressed is coordinate transformation and eigenanalysis of fourth- order tensors. The class of mappings considered is invariant, meaning that for a given η the corresponding mapping depends only on the order of the tensor upon which it acts and not, for example, on its physical interpretation (e.g., stress vs. strain, or stiffness vs. compliance). As a result the proposed mappings avoid ad hoc definitions like that of engineering shear strain (i.e., γij:=2∈ij for i ≠ j) which is inconsistent with an invariant mapping. The transient and steady-state membership distribution functions (MDFs) of fuzzy response of a Duffing–Van der Pol oscillator with fuzzy uncertainty are studied by means of the fuzzy generalized cell mapping (FGCM) method. A rigorous mathematical foundation of the FGCM is established with a discrete representation of the fuzzy master equation for the possibility transition of continuous fuzzy processes. Fuzzy response is characterized by its topology in the state space and its possibility measure of MDFs. The evolutionary orientation of MDFs is in accordance with invariant manifolds toward invariant sets. In the evolutionary process of a steady-state fuzzy response with an increase of the intensity of fuzzy noise, a merging bifurcation is observed in a sudden change of MDFs from two sharp peaks of maximum possibility to one peak band around unstable manifolds.  相似文献

We study three-dimensional Westervelt model of a nonlinear hydroacoustics without dissipation. We received all of its invariant submodels. We studied all invariant submodels described by the invariant solutions of rank 0 and 1. All invariant solutions of rank 0 and 1 are found either explicitly, or their search is reduced to the solution of the nonlinear integral equations. With a help of these invariant solutions we researched: (1) a propagation of the intensive acoustic waves (self-similar, axisymmetric, planar and one-dimensional) for which the acoustic pressure and a speed of its change, or the acoustic pressure and its derivative in the direction of one of the axes are specified at the initial moment of the time at a fixed point , (2) a spherically symmetric ultrasonic field for which the acoustic pressure and a speed of its change, or the acoustic pressure and its radial derivative are specified at the initial moment of the time at a fixed point. Solving of the boundary value problems describing these processes is reduced to the solving of nonlinear integral equations. We are established the existence and uniqueness of solutions of these boundary value problems under some additional conditions. Mechanical relevance of the obtained solutions is as follows: (1) these solutions describe nonlinear and diffraction effects in ultrasonic fields of a special kind, (2) these solutions can be used as a test solutions in the numerical calculations performed in studies of ultrasonic fields generated by powerful emitters. We found all the conservation laws of the first order for the Westerveld equation written in dimensionless variables.  相似文献
