Electrostatic force microscopy (EFM) measurements were performed to analyze the conductive properties of CdSe nanoparticles functionalized with polystyrene (PS) brushes and embedded in a poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) triblock copolymer. CdSe nanoparticles were synthesized aqueously and functionalized with polystyrene chains by the grafting through technique. CdSe-PS nanoparticles obtained after 5 and 8 h of polymerization were analyzed, in order to study the effect of the molecular weight of PS chains on conductive properties. EFM results showed the maintenance of the conductive properties of CdSe nanoparticles through functionalization reactions and even when they were confined in the block copolymer. Due to the low differences between the values obtained in the response of the samples to the charged tip, no effect of the molecular weight of brushes was confirmed.  相似文献

Surface functionalization of semiconductor CdSe nanoparticles has been achieved with polystyrene (PS) brushes by “grafting from” technique for further addition to a polystyrene-b-polybutadiene-b-polystyrene (SBS) block copolymer in order to obtain self-assembled composites. For modification of nanoparticle surface 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPS) was used at first for the later attachment of the 4,4′-azobis(4-cyanopentanoic acid) azo initiator. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the presence of GPS and PS on the surface of nanoparticles. Atomic force microscopy was used for morphological characterization of SBS/CdSe nanocomposites. Modification of nanoparticles with PS brushes by radical polymerization improved their affinity with PS block and the dispersion of nanoparticles avoiding agglomeration. CdSe nanoparticle size was measured to be around 2 nm by the use of X-ray diffraction and UV–Vis techniques. Optical properties were characterized using fluorescence measurements.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of surfactant addition on the dispersion of 1–3 wt.% alumina nanoparticles on the self-assembled morphology of poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) (SBS) linear triblock copolymer. The neat triblock copolymer microphase separated into PS cylinders self-assembled on a hexagonal array in the PB matrix, being the orientation of domains dependent on the annealing conditions. UV–vis and AFM analyses showed an improvement on dispersion of Al2O3 nanoparticles into SBS matrix by adding dodecanethiol as organic surfactant, due to its miscibility with PS block. Interactions between surfactant-coated Al2O3 nanoparticles with PS block were demonstrated by the variation on the glass transition temperature of this block. AFM analysis showed that the incorporation of surfactant-coated Al2O3 nanoparticles in the SBS matrix have great influence on the orientation of microphase separated domains in SBS nanocomposites.  相似文献

Nanocomposites of polystyrene-b-polyisoprene (PS-b-PI) copolymer with layered-smectite clays (organically modified montmorillonite) and nanostructured clay-carbon nanotube hybrids were prepared. The diblock copolymer was synthesized by anionic polymerization using high-vacuum techniques and was molecularly characterized by size exclusion chromatography. Carbon nanotubes were developed on clay-supported nickel nanoparticles by the CCVD method. Nanotubes attached on the clay platelets were then chemically modified to create ester groups on their surfaces. PS-b-PI nanocomposites at various polymer to reinforcement loadings were prepared by solution intercalation. The final nanocomposites were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The experiments complemented with viscometry measurements reveal the successful incorporation of the reinforcements in the polymer mass.  相似文献

A comparative study concerning the thermal stability of polystyrene (PS) and six POSS/PS nanocomposites of general formula R7R′(SiO1.5)8/PS (where R = cyclopentyl and R′ = phenyl, 4-methoxyphenyl, 4-tolyl, 3,5-xilyl, 4-fluorophenyl, and 2,4-difluorophenyl) was carried out in both inert (flowing nitrogen) and oxidative (static air) atmospheres. Nanocomposites were prepared by in situ polymerization of styrene in the presence of 5 % w/w of POSS, but the actual filler concentration in the obtained nanocomposites, determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy, was in all cases slightly higher than that in the reactant mixtures. FTIR spectra of nanocomposites evidenced the presence of filler-polymer interactions. Inherent viscosity (η inh) determinations indicated that the average molar mass of polymer in methylated and fluorinated derivatives was lower than neat PS, and were in agreement with calorimetric glass transition temperature (T g) measurements. Degradations were performed into a thermobalance, in the scanning mode, at 10 °C min?1, and the temperatures at 5 % mass loss (T 5 %), of various nanocomposites were determined. The effects of various substituents of the POSS phenyl group on the thermal stability of nanocomposites were evaluated. The results were discussed and interpreted.  相似文献

Synthesis of the ABA triblock copolymer nanoparticles of poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA) by seeded RAFT polymerization is performed, and the effect of the introduced third poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA) block on the size and morphology of the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer nanoparticles is investigated. This seeded RAFT polymerization affords the in situ synthesis of the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA core‐corona nanoparticles, in which the middle solvophobic PS block forms the compacted core, and the first solvophilic PDMA block and the introduced third PDMA block form the solvated complex corona. During the seeded RAFT polymerization, the introduced third PDMA block extends, and the molecular weight of the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer linearly increases with the monomer conversion. It is found that, the size of the PS core in the PDMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PDMA triblock copolymer core‐corona nanoparticles is almost equal to that in the precursor of the poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐block‐polystyrene diblock copolymer core‐corona nanoparticles and it keeps constant during the seeded RAFT polymerization, and whereas the introduction of the third PDMA block leads to a crowded complex corona on the PS core. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For designing the responsive polymer brushes, and tuning the local and chemical surface responses to the external stimuli, the epitaxial single crystals were patterned by combination of bared surfaces of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) substrate, polymer homo-brushes constructed from poly(ethylene glycol)-b-polystyrene (PEG-b-PS) as well as poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PEG-b-PMMA), and PEG-b-PS/PEG-b-PMMA mixed-brush channels. To achieve this target, various single crystals and epitaxial structures grown from dilute solutions through self-seeding approach were utilized as seeds to fabricate the next channels. The characteristics and morphologies of different channels were detectable by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The influence of chemical (solvent quality and interaction of substrate with different brushes) and physical (presence of brushes from another type in their vicinity) environments on crystallization was studied. Due to the effect of chemical environment, the PS brushes hampered the growth of PEG crystals at M n PS?=?10,000 g/mol. However, the PMMA brushes allowed PEG crystals to grow completely at M n PMMA =13,100 g/mol, and indicated their hindrance at higher molecular weights (here, M n PMMA?=?17,100 g/mol). It was feasible to neutralize the mentioned hindrance through fabricating the channels with brushes having the highest hindrance (M n PS?=?14,800 g/mol and M n PMMA?=?17,100 g/mol), and altering the physical environment from homo- to mixed-brush morphology. The characteristics (thickness, tethering density, and domain size) of developed channels from a certain material, in all arrangements and in various channels were in good agreement with those of corresponding non-epitaxial single crystals grown under the same conditions.  相似文献

In this study, we describe a new strategy for producing narrowly dispersed functional colloidal particles stabilized by a nanocomposite with hydrophilic clay faces and hydrophobic polystyrene (PS) brushes on the edges. This method involves preparation of polymer brushes on the edges of clay layers and Pickering suspension polymerization of styrene in the presence of the nanocomposites. PS brushes on the edges of clay layers were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization. X‐ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis results indicated that PS chains were grafted to the edges of clay platelets. Transmission electron microscope results showed that different morphologies of clay‐PS particles could be obtained in different solvents. In water, clay‐PS particles aggregated together, in which PS chains collapsed forming nanosized hydrophobic domains and hydrophilic clay faces stayed in aqueous phase. In toluene, clay‐PS particles formed face‐to‐face structure. Narrowly dispersed PS colloidal particles stabilized by clay‐PS were prepared by suspension polymerization. Because of the negatively charged clay particles on the surface, the zeta potential of the PS colloidal particles was negative. Positively charged poly(2‐vinyl pyridine) (P2VP) chains were adsorbed to the surface of PS colloidal particles in aqueous solution at a low pH value, and gold nanoparticles were prepared in P2VP brushes. Such colloidal particles may find important applications in a variety of fields including waterborne adhesives, paints, catalysis of chemical reactions, and protein separation. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. pH‐ and temperature‐responsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐block?4‐vinylbenzoic acid) (poly(NIPAAm‐b‐VBA)) diblock copolymer brushes on silicon wafers have been successfully prepared by combining click reaction, single‐electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP), and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Azide‐terminated poly(NIPAAm) brushes were obtained by SET‐LRP followed by reaction with sodium azide. A click reaction was utilized to exchange the azide end group of a poly(NIPAAm) brushes to form a surface‐immobilized macro‐RAFT agent, which was successfully chain extended via RAFT polymerization to produce poly(NIPAAm‐b‐VBA) brushes. The addition of sacrificial initiator and/or chain‐transfer agent permitted the formation of well‐defined diblock copolymer brushes and free polymer chains in solution. The free polymer chains were isolated and used to estimate the molecular weights and polydispersity index of chains attached to the surface. Ellipsometry, contact angle measurements, grazing angle‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the immobilization of initiator on the silicon wafer, poly(NIPAAm) brush formation via SET‐LRP, click reaction, and poly(NIPAAm‐b‐VBA) brush formation via RAFT polymerization. The poly(NIPAAm‐b‐VBA) brushes demonstrate stimuli‐responsive behavior with respect to pH and temperature. The swollen brush thickness of poly(NIPAAm‐b‐VBA) brush increases with increasing pH, and decreases with increasing temperature. These results can provide guidance for the design of smart materials based on copolymer brushes. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2013, 51, 2677–2685  相似文献

Block copolymers have been extensively used in the synthesis of many types of nanoparticles, where generally are considered as stabilizer and protective agent. In this work a double function of the biodegradable triblock copolymer poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)-b-poly(ε-caprolactone)-b-poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone), (PVP-PCL-PVP) in the gold nanoparticle-copolymer synthesis is reported.Gold-copolymer composed nanoparticles were synthesized using the triblock copolymer (PVP-PCL-PVP) and potassium tetrachloro aurate (III), both in aqueous solution. The copolymer work as both, reductant and stabilizer agent. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by FT-IR, dynamic light scattering (DLS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The shape and the size of the obtained nanoparticles are dependent on the copolymer/salt of gold concentration ratio used in the synthesis. To complement the experimental results about the copolymer role in the nanoparticles synthesis, computational tools were used to characterize the reactivity of the reactant species.  相似文献

The surface modification of polystyrene (PS) by the blending of 4‐acetoxystyrene polymers and their corresponding hydrolysis products, 4‐hydroxystyrene polymers, was investigated on the basis of X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and contact‐angle measurements. According to XPS and AFM measurements, when polystyrene‐block‐poly(4‐acetoxystyrene) (PS‐b‐PAS) or polystyrene‐block‐poly(4‐hydroxystyrene) (PS‐b‐PHS) was incorporated into PS, the block copolymer was preferentially segregated at the highest surface region of the blend. This segregation increased to a plateau value when more than 5 wt % of either PS‐b‐PHS or PS‐b‐PAS was added. The contact angle of the modified PS by PS‐b‐PAS or PS‐b‐PHS was slightly lower than that of homopolystyrene, but no further decrease was observed with the blend ratio of the diblock copolymer increasing from 5 to 20 wt %. For a PS/PS‐b‐PHS blend, the surface atomic concentration ratio O/C increased linearly with the molecular weight of poly(4‐hydroxystyrene) blocks in diblock copolymer PS‐b‐PHS in the range of our study. The different structures of 4‐acetoxystyrene polymers and their hydrazinolyzed materials may affect the surface compositions of their blends with PS; among these polymers, PS‐b‐PHS and PS‐b‐PAS appeared to be most effective. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Silica nanoparticles (NSiO2) are modified with mixed polymer brushes derived from a block copolymer precursor, poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(glycidyl methacrylate)-b-poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) with short middle segment of PGMA, through one step ??grafting-onto?? approach. The block polymer precursors are prepared via reversible addition?Cfragmentation chain transfer-based polymerization of methyl methacrylate, glycidyl methacrylate, and tert-butyl methacrylate. The grafting is achieved by the reaction of epoxy group in short PGMA segment with silanol functionality of silica. After hydrolysis of poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) segment, amphiphilic NSiO2 with ??V-shaped?? polymer brushes possessing exact 1:1 molar ratio of different arms were prepared. The functionalized particles self-assemble at oil/water interfaces to form stable large droplets with average diameter ranging from 0.15?±?0.06 to 2.6?±?0.75?mm. The amphiphilicity of the particles can be finely tuned by changing the relative lengths of poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(methacrylic acid) segments, resulting in different assembly behavior. The method may serve as a general way to control the surface property of the particles.  相似文献

Surface-tethered oppositely charged weak polyelectrolyte block copolymer brushes composed of poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (P2VP) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) were grown from the Si wafer by atom-transfer radical polymerization. The P2VP-b-PAA brushes were prepared through hydrolysis of the second PtBA block to the corresponding acrylic acid. The P2VP-b-PAA brushes with different PAA block length were obtained. The P2VP-b-PAA brushes revealed a unique reversible wetting behavior with pH. The difference between the solubility parameters for P2VP and PAA, the changes of surface chemical composition and surface roughness, and the reversible wetting behavior illustrated that the surface rearrangement occurred during treatment of the P2VP-b-PAA brushes by aqueous solution with different pH value. The reversible properties of the P2VP-b-PAA brushes can be used to regulate the adsorption of the sulfonated PS nanoparticles.  相似文献

The doubly thermo-responsive triblock copolymer nanoparticles of polystyrene-block-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-block-poly[N,N-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate] (PS-b-PNIPAM-b-PDMAEMA) are successfully prepared through the seeded RAFT polymerization in situ by using the PS-b-PNIPAM-TTC diblock copolymer nanoparticles as the seed. The seeded RAFT polymerization undergoes a pseudo-first-order kinetics procedure, and the molecular weight increases with the monomer conversion linearly. The hydrodynamic diameter (D h) of the triblock copolymer nanoparticles increases with the extension of the PDMAEMA block. In addition, the double thermo-response behavior of the PS-b-PNIPAM-b-PDMAEMA nanoparticles is detected by turbidity analysis, temperature-dependent 1H-NMR analysis, and DLS analysis. The seeded RAFT polymerization is believed as a valid method to prepare triblock copolymer nanoparticles containing two thermo-responsive blocks.  相似文献

The synthesis of a diblock copolymer of styrene and vinyl acetate (VAC), PS‐b‐PVAC, was performed by successive photoinduced charge‐transfer polymerization (CTP) under UV irradiation. A novel amphiphilic diblock copolymer of PS‐b‐PVA then was obtained by the hydrolysis of the diblock copolymer PS‐b‐PVAC with sodium ethoxide as a catalyst. Both of them were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, H NMR, and gel permeation chromatography in detail. The effect of the solvents on the CTP and the kinetics of the CTP are discussed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 914–920, 2000  相似文献

A facile route to reassemble titania nanoparticles within the titania‐block copolymer composite films has been developed. The titania nanoparticles templated by the amphiphilic block copolymer of poly(styrene)‐block‐poly (ethylene oxide) (PS‐b‐PEO) were frozen in the continuous PS matrix. Upon UV exposure, the PS matrix was partially degraded, allowing the titania nanoparticles to rearrange into chain‐like networks exhibiting a closer packing. The local structures of the Titania chain‐like networks were investigated by both AFM and SEM; the lateral structures and vertical structures of the films were studied by GISAXS and X‐ray reflectivity respectively. Both the image analysis and X‐ray scattering characterization prove the reassembly of the titania nanoparticles after UV exposure. The mechanism of the nanoparticle assembly is discussed.  相似文献

ABCBA‐type pentablock copolymers of methyl methacrylate, styrene, and isobutylene (IB) were prepared by the cationic polymerization of IB in the presence of the α,ω‐dichloro‐PS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS triblock copolymer [where PS is polystyrene and PMMA is poly(methyl methacrylate)] as a macroinitiator in conjunction with diethylaluminum chloride (Et2AlCl) as a coinitiator. The macroinitiator was prepared by a two‐step copper‐based atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The reaction temperature, ?78 or ?25 °C, significantly affected the IB content in the resulting copolymers; a higher content was obtained at ?78 °C. The formation of the PIB‐b‐PS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PIB copolymers (where PIB is polyisobutylene), prepared at ?25 (20.3 mol % IB) or ?78 °C (61.3 mol % IB; rubbery material), with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions provided direct evidence of the presence of labile chlorine atoms at both ends of the macroinitiator capable of initiation of cationic polymerization of IB. One glass‐transition temperature (Tg), 104.5 °C, was observed for the aforementioned triblock copolymer, and the pentablock copolymer containing 61.3 mol % IB showed two well‐defined Tg's: ?73.0 °C for PIB and 95.6 °C for the PS–PMMA blocks. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diblock copolymer membranes having a fluorinated segment and a sulfonic acid segment were prepared by living radical polymerization, solution casting, and crosslinking, followed by heat treatment. Diblock copolymers of 2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene (PFS)/4‐(1‐methylsilacyclobutyl)styrene (SBS) and neopentyl styrenesulfonate (SSPen) (poly(PFS‐co‐SBS)‐b‐polySSPen)s were synthesized by nitoroxy‐mediated living radical polymerization. Self‐standing crosslinked membranes were obtained by casting a THF solution of the block copolymer with Pt catalyst. Heat treatment of the membrane at 230 °C induced decomposition of the neopentyl sulfonate esters to provide block copolymer membranes having a fluorinated segment and a free sulfonic acid segment. It was confirmed that the block copolymer with a high sulfonic acid content exhibited high ion exchange capacity and high proton conductivity as well as high thermal stability. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Living anionic surface‐initiated polymerization on flat gold substrates has been conducted to create uniform homopolymer and diblock copolymer brushes. A 1,1‐diphenylethylene (DPE) self‐assembled monolayer was used as the immobilized precursor initiator. n‐BuLi was used to activate the DPE in tetrahydrofuran at –78 °C to initiate the polymerization of different monomers (styrene, isoprene, ethylene oxide, and methyl methacrylate). Poly(styrene) (PS) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) in particular were first investigated as grafted homopolymers, followed by their copolymers, including poly(isoprene)‐b‐poly(methylmethacrylate) (PI‐b‐PMMA). A combined approach of spectroscopic (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, surface plasmon spectroscopy, ellipsometry, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and microscopic (atomic force microscopy) surface analysis was used to investigate the formation of the polymer brushes in polar solvent media. The chemical nature of the outermost layer of these brushes was studied by water contact angle measurements. The effect of the experimental conditions (solvent, temperature, initiator concentration) on the surface properties of the polymer brushes was also investigated. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel six‐arm star block copolymer comprising polystyrene (PS) linked to the center and π‐conjugated poly (3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was successfully synthesized using a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and click reaction. First, star‐shaped PS with six arms was prepared via ATRP of styrene with the discotic six‐functional initiator, 2,3,6,7,10,11‐hexakis(2‐bromoisobutyryloxy)triphenylene. Next, the terminal bromides of the star‐shaped PS were substituted with azide groups. Afterward, the six‐arm star block copolymer PS‐b‐P3HT was prepared using the click coupling reaction of azide‐terminated star‐shaped PS with alkynyl‐terminated P3HT. Various techniques including 1H NMR, Fourier‐transform infrared and size‐exclusion chromatography were applied to characterize the chemical structures of the intermediates and the target block copolymers. Their thermal behaviors and optical properties were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry and UV–vis spectroscopy. Moreover, atomic force microscopy (AFM) was utilized to observe the morphology of the star block copolymer films. In comparison with two linear diblock copolymer counterparts, AFM results reveal the effect of the star block copolymer architecture on the microphase separation‐induced morphology in thin films. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
