In this paper we classify all real convexity theories that contain the standard convexity theory c. For this purpose we consider three subcases: finitary; infinitary and (sc\c)Ø; infinitary and sc=c. In each of these subcases one encounters a phenomenon resembling bifurcation.This research was supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.  相似文献

In this paper we construct smooth irreducible spacecurves C which link geometrically by surfaces of minimal degree containingC to curves of generic embedding dimension three. This produces interesting behavior with respect to both C and . The curves link to smooth connected curves by surfaces of low degree butcannot link to smooth connected curves by surfaces of high degree.The curves C give counterexamples to a conjecture of Martin-Deschamps and Perrin.  相似文献

Let G be a finite permutation group on a set with no fixed points in and let m and k be integers with 0 < m < k. For a finite subset of the movement of is defined as move() = maxgG| g \ |. Suppose further that G is not a 2-group and that p is the least odd prime dividing |G| and move() m for all k-element subsets of . Then either || k + m or k (7m – 5) / 2, || (9m – 3)/2. Moreover when || > k + m, then move() m for every subset of .  相似文献

Let be a distance regular graph with diameterd, and d () the set of vertices at distanced from. is said to be thin if the induced subgraph on d () is a union of cliques for every vertex. We show that the diameterd is bounded above by a function depending only onk d, which is the cardinality of d (), if is not thin. We also investigate thin distance regular graphs witha d 0.  相似文献

This paper gives a proof of a conjecture of W.-C. Hsiang for the negativeK-theory of integral grouprings , when the group is a subgroup of a uniform lattice in a Lie group. The authors' earlier paper reduced this result to the very special cases where either is finite or is virtually infinite cyclic. The finite case was done much earlier by Carter extending results of Bass and Murthy. The major work of the present paper consists of proving the conjecture when is virtually infinite cyclic.Both authors were supported in part by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

We construct an infinite family{ n}n=5 of finite connected graphs n that are multiple extensions of the well-known extended grid discovered in [1] (which is isomorphic to 5). The graphs n are locally n–1 forn > 5, and have the following property: the automorphism groupG(n) of n permutes transitively the maximal cliques of n (which aren-cliques) and the stabilizer of somen-clique of n inG(n) induces n on the vertices of. Furthermore we show that the clique complexes of the graphs n are simply connected.  相似文献

Summary Let be a closed, cocompact subgroup of a simply connected, solvable Lie groupG, such that Ad G has the same Zariski closure as AdG. If : GL n () is any finite-dimensional representation of , we show that virtually extends to a representation ofG. (By combining this with work of Margulis on lattices in semisimple groups, we obtain a similar result for lattices in many groups that are neither solvable nor semisimple.) Furthermore, we show that if is isomorphic to a closed, cocompact subgroup of another simply connected, solvable Lie groupG, then any isomorphism from to extends to a crossed isomorphism fromG toG. In the same vein, we prove a more concrete form of Mostow's theorem that compact solvmanifolds with isomorphic fundamental groups are diffeomorphic.Oblatum 5-VII-1994 & 15-IV-1995  相似文献

There are described the subgroups of the general symplectic group =GSp(2n, R) over a commutative semilocal ring R, containing the group of symplectic diagonal matrices. For each such subgroup P there is uniquely defined a symplectic D-net a such that ()pN(), where () is the net subgroup in corresponding to (cf. RZhMat, 1977, 5A288), and N() is its normalizer. The quotient group N × ()/() is calculated. There are also considered subgroups in Sp(2n, R). Analogous results for subgroups of the general linear group were obtained earlier in RZhMat, 1978, 9A237.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. It is proved that for a Cauchy type singular operator, given by equality (1), to be bounded from the Lebesgue spaceL p () tol q (), as = n=1 Ȟ n , n ={z:|z|=r n }, it is necessary and sufficient that either condition (4) or (5) be fulfilled.  相似文献

For every torsion free Fuchsian group with Poincaré's -operator norm é=1, it is proved that there exists an extremal Beltrami differential of which is also extremal under its own boundary correspondence. It is also proved that the imbedding of the Teichmüller spaceT() into the universal Teichmüller spaceT is not a global isometry unless is an elementary group.  相似文献

Let be an eight-dimensional, connected, locally compact ternary field and let denote a connected closed subgroup of its automorphism group which is taken with the compact-open topology. It is proved that is either isomorphic to the compact exceptional Lie group G2, or the (covering) dimension of is at most 11. This bound can be decreased to 10, if the ternary fixed fieldF of is connected.  相似文献

We construct a rank five residually connected and firm geometry on which the Mathieu group M 12 acts flag-transitively and residually weakly primitively (RWPRI). The group M 12 is the group of automorphisms of and Aut(M 12) is the correlation group of , in particular is self-dual. The diagram of is the following. Moreover satisfies the conditions (IP)2 and (2T)1. As a corollary, we obtain that the (RWPRI+(IP)2)-rank of M 12 is 5.  相似文献

In an -group M with an appropriate operator set it is shown that the -value set (M) can be embedded in the value set (M). This embedding is an isomorphism if and only if each convex -subgroup is an -subgroup. If (M) has a.c.c. and M is either representable or finitely valued, then the two value sets are identical. More generally, these results hold for two related operator sets 1 and 2 and the corresponding -value sets and . If R is a unital -ring, then each unital -module over R is an f-module and has exactly when R is an f-ring in which 1 is a strong order unit.  相似文献

We construct the CR invariant canonical contact form can(J) on scalar positive spherical CR manifold (M,J), which is the CR analogue of canonical metric on locally conformally flat manifold constructed by Habermann and Jost. We also construct another canonical contact form on the Kleinian manifold ()/, where is a convex cocompact subgroup of AutCRS2n+1=PU(n+1,1) and () is the discontinuity domain of . This contact form can be used to prove that ()/ is scalar positive (respectively, scalar negative, or scalar vanishing) if and only if the critical exponent ()<n (respectively, ()>n, or ()=n). This generalizes Nayatanis result for convex cocompact subgroups of SO(n+1,1). We also discuss the connected sum of spherical CR manifolds.  相似文献

We associate to any length function L on a group a space of rapidly decreasing functions on (in the l 2 sense), denoted by H L (). When H L () is contained in the reduced C*-algebra C r * () of (), then it is a dense *-subalgebra of C r * () and we prove a theorem of A. Connes which asserts that under this hypothesis H L () has the same K-theory as C r * (). We introduce another space of rapidly decreasing functions on (in the l 1 sense), denoted by H L 1, (), which is always a dense *-subalgebra of the Banach algebra l 1(), and we show that H L 1, () has the same K-theory as l 1().  相似文献

TheK-theory of the group algebra [] for a countable, discrete group is defined in terms of the simplicial ring of smooth simplices on [], where [] is given the fine topology with respect to its finite-dimensional, linear subspaces. The assembly map for this theory :K * B K * [] is studied and shown to be a rational injection. The proof uses the Connes-Karoubi Chern character fromK-theory of Banach algebras to cyclic homology, here generalized to any fine topological algebra, and proved to be multiplicative.  相似文献

Let be a graph and G be a 2-arc transitive automorphism group of . For a vertex x let G(x)(x) denote the permutation group induced by the stabilizer G(x) of x in G on the set (x) of vertices adjacent to x in . Then is said to be a locally projective graph of type (n,q) if G(x)(x) contains PSLn(q) as a normal subgroup in its natural doubly transitive action. Suppose that is a locally projective graph of type (n,q), for some n 3, whose girth (that is, the length of a shortest cycle) is 5 and suppose that G(x) acts faithfully on (x). (The case of unfaithful action was completely settled earlier.) We show that under these conditions either n=4, q=2, has 506 vertices and , and contains the Wells graph on 32 vertices as a subgraph. In the latter case if, for a given n, at least one graph satisfying the conditions exists then there is a universal graph W(n) of which all other graphs for this n are quotients. The graph W(3) satisfies the conditions and has 220 vertices.  相似文献

In the paper Geometric K-Theory for Lie Groups and Foliations, Baum and Connes conjecture in a remark following Corollary 2 of their famous Isomorphism conjecture that for a finitely generated group with torsion, the trace map tr: K0(C*)R maps K0(C*) onto the additive subgroup of Q generated by all rational numbers of the form 1/n where n is the order of a finite subgroup of . We construct a counterexample to this conjecture.  相似文献

In this paper, we classify all the orientable hyperbolic 5-manifolds that arise as a hyperbolic space form H 5/ where is a torsion-free subgroup of minimal index of the congruence two subgroup 5 2 of the group 5 of positive units of the Lorentzian quadratic form x 2/1 +... +x 5/2 -x 6/2. We also show that 5 2 is a reflection group with respect to a 5-dimensional right-angled convex polytope in H 5. As an application, we construct a hyperbolic 5-manifold of smallest known volume 7 (3)/4.  相似文献
