Jordan structures of strictly lower triangular completions of nilpotent matrices

Study of the plasma potential evolution during ECRH in the T-10 tokamak and TJ-II stellarator

Comparison of the plasma electric potential evolution in the T-10 tokamak and TJ-II stellarator was performed. The core potential was measured by the heavy-ion beam probing and the edge potential was measured by Langmuir probe. The intrinsic potentials in both devices are different in sign, positive in TJ-II low-density discharge and negative in T-10 higher-density discharges, but during ECRH they evolve similarly: the potential becomes more positive, and increase of ECRH power leads to stronger rise of core potential. Factorization of selfadjoint quadratic matrix polynomials with real spectrum

Factorization theorems, and properties of sets of eigenvectors, are established for regular selfadjoint quatratic matrix polynomials L(λ) whose leading coefficeint is indefinite or possibly singular, and for which all eigenvalues are real of definite type. The two linear factors obtained have spectra which are just the eigenvalues of L(λ) of positive and negative types, respectively.     

Hilbert-Carleman and regularized determinants for linear operators

A general theory of regularized and Hilbert-Carleman determinants in normed algebras of operators acting in Banach spaces is proposed. In this approach regularized determinants are defined as continuous extensions of the corresponding determinants of finite dimensional operators. We characterize the algebras for which such extensions exist, describe the main properties of the extended determinants, obtain Cramer's rule and the formulas for the resolvent which are expressed via the extended tracestr(A ^k ) of iterations and regularized determinants.This paper is a continuation of the paper [GGKr].     

Measurement of subpicosecond optical waveforms using a resonator-based phase modulator

We propose a method for the measurement of periodic optical waveforms based on the use of an electrooptic phase modulator placed in an optical Fabry-Perot or ring resonator. Significant broadening of the modulation spectrum extends the recently developed method of periodic modulation for pulse characterization into femtosecond scales. We numerically demonstrate the characterization of a 300-fs optical pulse. We also present a technique based on the temporal fractional Talbot effect for restoration of the pulse phase profile. After fast linear processing, subpicosecond pulses will be observed on the screen of a real-time oscilloscope. This complete characterization of optical pulses is entirely linear and therefore highly sensitive and simple in implementation.     

Critical points of essential norms of singular integral operators in weighted spaces

We show that for any simple piecewise Ljapunov contour there exists a power weight such that the essential norm |S | in the spaceL ₂(, ) does not depend on the angles of the contour and it is given by formula (2). All such weights are described. For the union =₁₂ of two simple piecewise Lyapunov curves we prove that the essential norm |S | inL ₂() is minimal if both ₁ and ₂ are smooth in some neighborhoods of the common points. It is the case when the norm |S | in the spaceL ₂() as well as inL ₂(, ) does not depend on the values of the angles and it can be calculated by formula (5).
