Selective and large polarization of current injected into semiconductor (SC) is predicted in ferromagnet (FM)/quantum dot (QD)/SC system by varying the gate voltage above the Kondo temperature. In addition, spin-dependent Kondo effect is also revealed below Kondo temperature. It is found that Kondo resonances for up spin state are suppressed with increasing of the polarization P of the FM lead. While the down one is enhanced. The Kondo peak for up spin is disappear at P=1.  相似文献

We consider electron transport through quantum dots with large level spacing and charging energy. At low temperature and strong coupling to the leads, quantum fluctuations and the Kondo effect become important. They show up, e.g., as zero-bias anomalies in the current–voltage characteristics. We use a recently developed diagrammatic technique as well as a new real-time renormalization-group approach to describe charge and spin fluctuations. The latter gives rise to a Kondo-assisted enhancement of the current through the dot as seen in experiments.  相似文献

The effect of localized spins on the quantum coherence in solids is discussed. A quantum dot with an odd number of electrons can be a model system for a localized spin. It is experimentally shown that a spin flip scattering by a quantum dot pulls the trigger of quantum decoherence. On the other hand, spin flip scattering is the basic process to construct the Kondo singlet state around a magnetic impurity. Through an interference effect of the Kondo state (the Fano–Kondo effect) in a side-coupled dot system, we show experimentally that the Kondo singlet state is quantum mechanically coherent. The analysis of the Fano–Kondo lineshape indicates the locking of the phase shift to π/2, which is in agreement with theoretical predictions. The Fano–Kondo effect is also observed in an Aharonov–Bohm ring, in which a quantum dot is embedded, and also indicates the phase shift locking to π/2.  相似文献

We find that Kondo resonant conductance can occur in a quantum dot in the Coulomb blockade regime with an even number of electrons N. The contacts are attached to the dot in a pillar configuration, and a magnetic field B( perpendicular) along the axis is applied. B( perpendicular) lifts the spin degeneracy of the dot energies. Usually, this prevents the system from developing the Kondo effect. Tuning B( perpendicular) to the value B(*) where levels with different total spin cross restores both the degeneracy and the Kondo effect. We analyze a dot charged with N = 2 electrons. Coupling to the contacts is antiferromagnetic due to a spin selection rule and, in the Kondo state, the charge is unchanged while the total spin on the dot is S = 1/2.  相似文献

We generalize the Heisenberg star consisting of a spin-1/2 central spin and a homogeneously coupled spin bath modeled by the XXX ring [Richter J and Voigt A 1994 J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 27 1139-1149] to the case of arbitrary central-spin size S < N/2, where N is the number of bath spins. We describe how to block-diagonalize the model based on the Bethe ansatz solution of the XXX ring, with the dimension of each block Hamiltonian ≤ 2S + 1. We obtain all the eigenenergies and explicit expressions of the sub-ground states in each l-subspace with l being the total angular momentum of the bath. Both the eigenenergies and the sub-ground states have distinct structures depending whether Sl or l < S. The absolute ground-state energy and the corresponding l as functions of the intrabath coupling are numerically calculated for N = 16 and S = 1, 2, ⋯ ,7 and their behaviors are quantitatively explained in the weak and strong intrabath coupling limits. We then study the dynamics of the antiferromagnetic order within an XXX bath prepared in the Néel state. Effects of the initial state of the central spin, the value of S, and the system-bath coupling strength on the staggered magnetization dynamics are investigated. By including a Zeeman term for the central spin and the anisotropy in the intrabath coupling, we also study the polarization dynamics of the central spin for a bath prepared in the spin coherent state. Under the resonant condition and at the isotropic point of the bath, the polarization dynamics for S > 1/2 exhibit collapse-revival behaviors with fine structures. However, the collapse-revival phenomena are found to be fragile with respect to the anisotropy of the intrabath coupling.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate a device consisting of two quantum dots(QDs) side-coupled to a quantum wire which has many physicalingredients of an artificial heavy fermion system. An extra parameter, the distance L between the two QDs, is introduced and it plays an important role on the competition of the Kondo temperature and magnetic coupling. Three different phases are found: antiferromagnetic phase, Kondo phase with spin S=1/2, and Kondo phase with S=1, depending on the distance L, the magnetic coupling, and the Kondo temperature. Quantum transport properties are qualitatively different for different phases: for the S=1 Kondo and the antiferromagnetic phases, the conductance tends to the unitary value 2e2/h; for the S=1/2 Kondo phase the conductance is strongly dependent on the distance.  相似文献

We investigate the S=1/2 XXZ spin chain with period 3 magnetic field term. The magnetization plateau-nonplateau transition at m=±1/6 is expected to be of the Berezinski–Kosterlitz–Thouless type from the bosonization argument. By examining the level crossing of low-lying excitations numerically, we precisely determine the plateau phase diagram.  相似文献

We consider electrons confined to a quantum dot interacting antiferromagnetically with a spin-1 / 2 Kondo impurity. The electrons also interact among themselves ferromagnetically with a dimensionless coupling J , where J =1 denotes the bulk Stoner transition. We show that as J approaches 1 there is a regime with enhanced Kondo correlations, followed by one where the Kondo effect is destroyed and impurity is spin polarized opposite to the dot electrons. The most striking signature of the first, Stoner-enhanced Kondo regime is that a Zeeman field increases the Kondo scale, in contrast to the case for noninteracting dot electrons. Implications for experiments are discussed.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of the organic radical p-diethylaminophenyl nitronyl nitroxide (DEAPNN; 2-(4'-diethylaminophenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-1-oxy-3-N-oxide) have been investigated. The magnetization isotherms of DEAPNN measured up to 20.5 T at 1.7 and 4.2 K show a spin-flop phenomenon characteristic of one-dimensional regular isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnetism. The magnetic susceptibility of DEAPNN is well interpreted by the Heisenberg antiferromagnetism in the whole temperature range of 2–300 K. The exchange coupling constant is determined to be J/k = -2.45 K based on the spin Hamiltonian H = -2JΣSiSi + 1.  相似文献

The low-temperature fixed point of the Kondo model, for k bands and a spin-s impurity, is well understood by Nozières' Fermi liquid theory for k 2s. However when k > 2s, a new type of non-trivial fixed point is known to occur. We study this fixed point using higher-level Kac-Moody conformal field theory and Cardy's approach to boundary critical phenomena. The specific heat and magnetization are shown to be determined by the leading irrelevant operator and the corresponding critical exponents are obtained exactly. The Wilson ratio is argued to be universal and its exact value is also calculated. The asymptotic finite-size spectrum is determined. Thermodynamic exponents agree precisely with the Bethe ansatz; for k = 2, S = 1/2, the Wilson ratio also agrees well with the approximate value obtained from the Bethe ansatz; the slope of the β-function agrees with the perturbative result in the large-k limit and the finite-size spectrum agrees excellently with approximate results obtained previously by Wilson's numerical renormalization group method in the case k = 2, S = 1/2.  相似文献

We study the nonequilibrium regime of the Kondo effect in a quantum dot laterally coupled to a narrow wire. We observe a split Kondo resonance when a finite bias voltage is imposed across the wire. The splitting is attributed to the creation of a double-step Fermi distribution function in the wire. Kondo correlations are strongly suppressed when the voltage across the wire exceeds the Kondo temperature. A perpendicular magnetic field enables us to selectively control the coupling between the dot and the two Fermi seas in the wire. Already at fields of order 0.1 T only the Kondo resonance associated with the strongly coupled reservoir survives.  相似文献

We develop a general method to evaluate the Kondo temperature in a multilevel quantum dot that is weakly coupled to conducting leads. Our theory reveals that the Kondo temperature is strongly enhanced when the intradot energy-level spacing is comparable or smaller than the charging energy. We propose an experiment to test our result, which consists of measuring the size dependence of the Kondo temperature.  相似文献

With eigen-functional method, we study the low energy behavior of the over screened N-channel Kondo model, and under linearized approximation, we give a general asymptotic expression of the local spin–spin correlation function, in which the correlation exponent is determined by phase shifts produced by scattering potentials. Moreover, we demonstrate that the temperature dependence of the local spin susceptibility and specific heat shows non-Fermi liquid behavior for large channel number N2, which is consistent with the exact results obtained by the Bethe ansatz and conformal field theory.  相似文献

The transport properties of an artificial single-molecule magnet based on a CdTe quantum dot doped with a single Mn+2 ion(S=5/2) are investigated by the non-equilibrium Green function method. We consider a minimal model where the Mn-hole exchange coupling is strongly anisotropic so that spin-flip is suppressed and the impurity spin S and a hole spin s entering the quantum dot are coupled into spin pair states with(2S+1) sublevels. In the sequential tunneling regime, the differential conductance exhibits(2S+1) possible peaks, corresponding to resonance tunneling via(2S+1) sublevels. At low temperature,Kondo physics dominates transport and(2S+1) Kondo peaks occur in the local density of states and conductance. These peaks originate from the spin-singlet state formed by the holes in the leads and on the dot via higher-order processes and are related to the parallel and antiparallel spin pair states.  相似文献

The low energy spectrum of spin-polarized clusters in layered cuprates is examined. Two types of clusters confining the motion of oxygen holes are discussed. The ground state of the pentanuclear copper cluster has a total spin S = 2, whereas the one of the tetranuclear copper cluster is characterised by S= 3/2. Anisotropic exchange coupling splits the magnetic ground state into a sequence of state, which in a natural way provide e.g. an explanation of EPR data for La2CuO4+δ compounds.  相似文献

We show that the Kondo effect can be induced by an external magnetic field in quantum dots with an even number of electrons. If the Zeeman energy B is close to the single-particle level spacing Delta in the dot, the scattering of the conduction electrons from the dot is dominated by an anisotropic exchange interaction. A Kondo resonance then occurs despite the fact that B exceeds by far the Kondo temperature T(K). As a result, at low temperatures T相似文献

We report the observation of Kondo physics in a spin-3/2 hole quantum dot. The dot is formed close to pinch-off in a hole quantum wire defined in an undoped AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructure. We clearly observe two distinctive hallmarks of quantum dot Kondo physics. First, the Zeeman spin splitting of the zero-bias peak in the differential conductance is independent of the gate voltage. Second, this splitting is twice as large as the splitting for the lowest one-dimensional subband. We show that the Zeeman splitting of the zero-bias peak is highly anisotropic and attribute this to the strong spin-orbit interaction for holes in GaAs.  相似文献

Nonequilibrium spin transport through an interacting quantum dot is analyzed. The coherent spin oscillations in the dot provide a generating source for spin current. In the interacting regime, the Kondo effect is influenced in a significant way by the presence of the processing magnetic field. In particular, when the precession frequency is tuned to resonance between spin-up and spin-down states of the dot, Kondo singularity for each spin splits into a superposition of two resonance peaks. The Kondo-type cotunneling contribution is manifested by a large enhancement of the pumped spin current in the strong coupling low temperature regime.  相似文献
