The fatigue properties of graphite/epoxy (Gr/Ep) T300/5208 composite laminates of 16 plies with a central circular hole subjected to tension-tension (T-T) constant-stress amplitudes at room temperature and low humidity have been fully investigated. Studied are four types of notched laminates which are classified as unidirectional, off-axis, orthotropic shear and quasi-isotropic. Some of them were precracked to initiate and guide the crack growth transversely. Our work is experimental and the analysis is based on a semiempirical approach. We have experimentally measured S-N curves, failure surfaces, crack lengths and their corresponding growth directions, delamination areas and transverse delamination lengths for the above series of composites. The fatigue failure mechanism was observed and expressed schematically. To analyze the experimental results, we have categorized the S-N curves by three common equations. The effective transverse crack length of quasi-isotropic laminates was found to be independent of the applied stress. For simplicity, it was modeled by a power law of applied cycles. It was also found that the delamination area could be expressed by a power law of applied cycles. Hence, the so-called modified Paris law, i.e., the power law of cycles, proposed here has been verified as satisfactorily acceptable.  相似文献

研究横观各向同性饱和土地基上中厚弹性圆板的非轴对称振动问题。基于横观各向同性饱和介质Biot波动方程的一般解,按混合边值问题建立了饱和地基与弹性中厚圆板非轴对称动力相互作用的对偶积分方程,并将对偶积分方程转化为易于计算的第二类Fredholm积分方程;采用数值方法求解该积分方程。数值算例结果表明,当h/a>0.05时,饱和半空间体上中厚度圆板在不同频率下的振动特性与相应频率下的刚性板的振动特性基本相同,当h/a<0.05时,板中心的位移将随h/a的减小而增大。  相似文献

Based on the basic equations for axisymmetric problems of transversely isotropic elastic materials, the displacement components are expressed in terms of polynomials of the radial coordinate with the five involved coefficients, named as displacement functions in this paper, being undetermined functions of the axial (thickness) coordinate. Five equations governing the displacement functions are then derived. It is shown that the displacement functions can be found through progressive integration by incorporating the boundary conditions. Thus a three-dimensional analytical solution is obtained for a transversely isotropic functionally graded disc rotating at a constant angular velocity.The solution can be degenerated into that for an isotropic functionally graded rotating disc. A prominent feature of this solution is that the material properties can be arbitrary functions of the axial coordinate. Thus, the solution for a homogeneous transversely isotropic rotating disc is just a special case that can be easily derived. An example is finally considered for a special functionally graded material, and numerical results shows that the material inhomogeneity has a remarkable effect on the elastic field.  相似文献

This paper models the cyclic stress softening of an elastomer in compression. After the initial compression the material is described as being transversely isotropic. We derive non-linear transversely isotropic constitutive equations for the elastic response, stress relaxation, residual strain, and creep of residual strain in order to model accurately the inelastic features associated with cyclic stress softening. These equations are combined with a transversely isotropic version of the Arruda–Boyce eight-chain model to develop a constitutive relation that is capable of accurately representing the Mullins effect during cyclic stress softening for a transversely isotropic, hyperelastic material, in particular a carbon-filled rubber vulcanizate. To establish the validity of the model we compare it with two test samples, one for filled vulcanized styrene–butadiene rubber and the other for filled vulcanized natural rubber. The model is found to fit this experimental data extremely well.  相似文献

Various approaches have been used for model1ing problems dealing with interaction of acoustic/elastic waves with transversely isotropic cylinders. The authors developed the first mathematical model for the scattering of acoustic waves from transversely isotropic cylinders [Honarvar, F., Sinclair, A.N., 1996. Acoustic wave scattering from transversely isotropic cylinders. Journal of the Acoustical Society of America 100, 57–63.]. In the current paper, this model is used for derivation of the frequency equations of longitudinal and flexural wave propagation in free transversely isotropic cylinders. Consistency of this model with the physics of the problem is demonstrated and a systematic solution to the corresponding equations is developed. Numerical results obtained for a number of transversely isotopic cylinders are used for verification of the mathematical model.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of a crack embedded in a half-plane piezoelectric solid with traction-induction free boundary is analyzed. A system of singular integral equations is formulated for the materials with general anisotropic piezoelectric properties and for the crack with arbitrary orientation. The kernel functions developed are in complex form for general anisotropic piezoelectric materials and are then specialized to the case of transversely isotropic piezoelectric materials which are in real form. The obtained coupled mechanical and electric real kernel functions may be reduced to those kernel functions for purely elastic problems when the electric effects disappear. The system of singular integral equations is solved numerically and the coupling effects of the mechanical and electric phenomena are presented by the generalized stress intensity factors for transversely isotropic piezoelectric materials.  相似文献

In the literature, the determination of global elastic properties of composites with ellipsoidal inclusions is based on the averaged stress, strain and elastic-energy fields (e.g. Compos. Sci. Technol. 27 (1986) 111). These are related to the local fields of the inclusion, the matrix, and the inclusion-matrix interface. In this study, we propose a method to obtain the global elastic properties of any transversely isotropic composite directly from the elastic properties of the matrix and the inclusions. Thus, it is not necessary to refer to the stress and strain applied globally or generated locally. The inclusions can have any transversely isotropic probability distribution of orientation. The problem is entirely geometrized and is treated in terms of averages of Walpole's (Adv. Appl. Mech. 21 (1981) 169) components of the fourth-order tensors describing the problem. We give a general numerical solution for any transversely isotropic statistical distribution of orientation, and also provide a validation of our method by applying it to some known cases and by retrieving the known exact solutions from the literature.  相似文献

Plane and axisymmetric contact problems for a three-layer elastic half-space are considered. The plane problem is reduced to a singular integral equation of the first kind whose approximate solution is obtained by a modified Multhopp-Kalandiya method of collocation. The axisymmetric problem is reduced to an integral Fredholm equation of the second kind whose approximate solution is obtained by a specially developed method of collocation over the nodes of the Legendre polynomial. An axisymmetric contact problem for an transversely isotropic layer completely adherent to an elastic isotropic half-space is also considered. The present work addresses the problem of calculation of the macroscopic effective elastic properties of composites containing transversely isotropic phases. As a first step, the contribution of a single inhomogeneity to the effective elastic properties is quantified. Relevant stiffness and compliance contribution tensors are derived for spheroidal inhomogeneities. The limiting cases of spherical, penny-shaped and cylindrical shapes are discussed in detail. The property contribution tensors are used to derive the effective elastic moduli of composite materials formed by transversely isotropic phases in two approximations: non-interaction approximation and effective field method. The results are compared with elastic moduli of quasi-random composites.  相似文献

The accurate series solution have been obtained of the elasticity theory problem for a transversely isotropic solid containing a finite or infinite periodic array of anisotropic spherical inclusions. The method of solution has been developed based on the multipole expansion technique. The basic idea of method consists in expansion the displacement vector into a series over the set of vectorial functions satisfying the governing equations of elastic equilibrium. The re-expansion formulae derived for these functions provide exact satisfaction of the interfacial boundary conditions. As a result, the primary spatial boundary-value problem is reduced to an infinite set of linear algebraic equations. The method has been applied systematically to solve for three models of composite, namely a single inclusion, a finite array of inclusions and an infinite periodic array of inclusions, respectively, embedded in a transversely isotropic solid. The numerical results are presented demonstrating that elastic properties mismatch, anisotropy degree, orientation of the anisotropy axes and interactions between the inclusions can produce significant local stress concentration and, thus, affect greatly the overall elastic behavior of composite.  相似文献

The propagation of circularly crested thermoelastic diffusive waves in an infinite homogeneous transversely isotropic plate subjected to stress free, isothermal/insulated and chemical potential conditions is investigated in the framework of different thermo- elastic diffusion theories. The Boussinesq problem, that is, determining the deformation in a hyperelastic half-space due to a point force normal to the boundary, is an important problem of engineering, geomechanics, and other fields to which elasticity theory is often applied. While linear solutions produce useful Greens functions, they also predict infinite displacements and other physically inconsistent results nearby and at the point of application of the load where the most critical and interesting material behavior occurs. To illuminate the deformation due to such a load in the region of interest, asymptotic analysis of the nonlinear Boussinesq problem has been considered in the context of isotropic hyperelasticity. Studies considering transversely isotropic materials have also been broadly used in the linear theory, but have not been treated within the nonlinear framework. In this paper we extend the nonlinearly elastic isotropic analysis to transverse isotropy, producing a more general theory which also better encompasses applications involving layered media. The governing equations for nonlinearly elastic, transversely isotropic solids are derived, conservation laws of elastostatics are invoked, asymptotic forms of the deformation solutions are hypothesized, and the differential equations governing deformation near the point load are determined. The analysis also develops sequences of simple tests to determine if a transversely isotropic material can possibly sustain a finite deflection under the point load. The results are applied to a variety of transversely isotropic materials, and the effects of the anisotropy considered is demonstrated by comparison of the resulting deformation with similar asymptotic solutions in the isotropic theory. The paper studies the stress rupture behavior of a reinforced viscoelastic composite through which a penny-shaped mode I crack propagates under a constant load. The composite has hexagonal symmetry and consists of elastic isotropic fibers and viscoelastic isotropic matrix. The material is modeled as a transversely isotropic homogeneous viscoelastic medium with effective characteristics. The crack is in the isotropy plane. The ring-shaped fracture process zone at the crack front is modeled by a modified Dugdale zone with time-dependent stresses. The viscoelastic properties of the matrix are characterized using a resolvent integral operator. Use is made of Volterra's principle, the method of operator continued fractions, and the theory of precritical crack growth in viscoelastic bodies. The problem is reduced to nonlinear integral equations. The contact interaction of two compressed electroelastic transversely isotropic half-spaces with different properties is studied. One of the half-spaces has an axisymmetric notch of special shape. The contact plane coincides with the plane of isotropy of the half-spaces. Explicit formulas for the contact pressure, displacements, and the size of the gap between piezoelectric half-spaces are derived. The paper presents a three-dimensional solution to the equilibrium equations for linear elastic transversely isotropic inhomogeneous media. We assume that the material has constant Poisson’s ratios, and its Young’s and shear moduli have the same functional form of dependence on the co-ordinate normal to the plane of isotropy. We show, apparently for the first time, that stresses and displacements in such an inhomogeneous transversely isotropic elastic solid can be represented in terms of two displacement functions which satisfy the second- and fourth-order partial differential equations. We examine and discuss key aspects of the new representation; they include the relationship between the new displacement functions and Plevako’s solution for isotropic inhomogeneous material with constant Poisson’s ratio as well as the application of the new representation to some important classes of three-dimensional elasticity problems. As an example, the displacement function is derived that can be used to determine stresses and displacements in an inhomogeneous transversely isotropic half-space which is subjected to a concentrated force normal to a free surface and applied at the origin (Boussinesq’s problem).  相似文献
