The switching of single bit magnetic islands in bit patterned media (BPM) for two cases with 10 times difference in coercivity, as well as the switching field distribution (SFD) of the islands, has been studied using magnetic force microscopy (MFM) measurements. The intrinsic SFD is measured to be ∼9-11% of the remanence coercivity (Hcr), which contributes only ∼20-50% of the total SFD broadening (∼23-41% of Hcr). High resolution MFM observations clearly showed the influence of surrounding islands on the switching behaviour and switching fields of individual bit islands, resulting in significant contributions in SFD broadening due to non-intrinsic dipolar interactions. It was further observed that single magnetic islands could be switched within a very narrow switching field range as small as 4 Oe, which indicates very sharp and uniform switching for each individual island of BPM.  相似文献

Narrow-track perpendicular write heads are reviewed. Because of the strong magnetic interaction between the write head and double-layered medium in perpendicular recording, various types of media are also considered. Current technology is discussed to illustrate design issues; then, for areal densities beyond 1 Tb/in2, future technological requirements, including single-pole-type (SPT) heads for discrete track and bit-patterned media, are examined based on numerical simulations.  相似文献

Thermally assisted magnetic recording (TAR) with bit-patterned media was investigated by micromagnetic simulation. The media were assumed to be FePt layers. The effective head-field margin as well as the increase in temperature margin and down-track shift margin was investigated. Conditions of the head and medium that lead to a recording density beyond 5 Tb/in2 were proposed.  相似文献

Design of patterned media for an areal density of 1 Tbit/in2 with thermal stability is presented based on perpendicular MH loops of the media. Required perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was estimated to be achieved with known materials. However, it is indicated that magnetostatic interaction between the dots becomes a limiting factor for achieving higher densities. Recording simulation using a Karlqvist pole head on the designed media exhibited possibility of the recording of 1 Tbit/in2. Shift margin of the write head in the cross-track direction was found to be increased with elongated dots in the down-track direction. Recording simulation with an FEM-analyzed field of a side-shielded multi-surface pole head exhibited successful recording with increased cross-track shift margins as well as the effect of the elongated dot shape.  相似文献

The current status of CoPtCr-SiO2 granular media is briefly reviewed, and challenges relative to media technology exceeding 1 Tb/in2 are discussed. It is effective to enhance grain isolation using oxide materials that easily precipitate at the grain boundary, and this technique is adopted in commercially available perpendicular recording media. Although some difficulties such as reduction of the grain size retaining the switching field remain, 1 Tb/in2 could be achieved by using granular exchange-coupled composite-type media or related technologies. Discrete track media could be used for more than 1 Tb/in2 recording. It could also take several years to further develop nano-processing technology and establish a cost-effective infrastructure. BPM offers great potential in achieving high recording density, although some necessary technologies are still too primitive to consider commercial production.  相似文献

Micromagnetic simulations were used to investigate the influence of patterned media geometry on the signal to noise ratio (SNR), adjacent track erasure and write margin for a target recording density of 1 Tb/in2. For an ideal patterned medium the readback noise was a maximum when the read head was directly over the dots and a minimum at the transitions. The SNR improved for smaller dots due to the larger dot separation. However, the ideal media with the highest SNR were also the most susceptible to dispersions of dot size and position. Low temperature simulations suggest that large write margins are available; however, at room temperature the write margin can be much reduced. Increasing the rise time of the write head had a deleterious effect on the write margin and the write margin was zero for rise times of more than 0.45 ns. Nevertheless, error-free writing at 1 Tb/in2 could be achieved using appropriate head geometries and material parameters.  相似文献

The effect of intermediate layer (IL) thickness on crystallographic texture and magnetic properties of CoCrPtSiO2 granular perpendicular recording media was investigated with switching field distribution (SFD) as the focus. Even though the c-axis orientation of the Co-based recording layer (RL) broadens with the reduction of IL thickness, the SFD becomes narrower. This result demonstrates that the intrinsic SFD is not directly dependent on c-axis orientation of the recording layer but instead dependent on the magnitude of exchange coupling. It is thus possible to have a medium with thin IL and narrow SFD. This is desirable for bit-patterned media (BPM), where highly exchange-coupled grains are required.  相似文献

Bit-patterned (BP) recording is a candidate for extending magnetic data storage towards 10 Tb/in2 bit densities. An analysis of the design tolerances is carried out using dynamic micromagnetic simulations and statistical models. The effects of distributions of the magnetic material properties on phase margin and addressability error-rate during writing are investigated. At 1.3 Tb/in2 a rapid increase of the error-rate is observed when the write-synchronization deviates from the optimum phase φ0. Estimates of the fabrication and write-synchronization tolerances are derived from the phase margins. It is shown that the switching-field distribution (from intra-island variations and inter-island interactions) as well as the fabrication and synchronization tolerances must be tightly controlled for Tb/in2 applications. At ultra-high densities, BP media may need to be combined with energy-assisted writing, which is referred to as second-generation BP recording.  相似文献

In the present study, we succeeded in accelerating the L10 ordering transition of FePt thin films by employing amorphous Ni-Al as underlayers. The coercivity Hc = 5 kOe and ordering parameter S = 0.67 of FePt thin films deposited on a Ni-Al underlayer with a thickness of ∼5 nm after 380 °C annealing for 30 min are significantly higher than those Hc = 0.4 kOe and S = 0.35 of the films without the Ni-Al underlayer. The L10 ordering process of and the coercivity of FePt thin films can be significantly tuned by varying the thickness of the Ni-Al underlayer.  相似文献

Granular-type media with thin Ru intermediate layer were prepared on a highly oriented high-Bs FeCo soft underlayer (SUL). A CoPt–TiO2 recording layer on a Ru intermediate layer of only 2 nm had high-crystal orientation, high Hc of 6.5 kOe, and a high squareness ratio (SQ) of 0.99. The magnetic property of the SUL was also good. The recording performance was measured for the media with different Ru intermediate thicknesses by using a single-pole-type (SPT) head. The media had large reproduced output even for the Ru intermediate layer thickness of 2 nm.  相似文献

The time dependence of remanence coercivity and thermal stability were investigated for hard/soft-stacked media consisting of a magnetically hard granular layer underneath a very thin soft layer with a large saturation magnetization, Ms. The values of remanence coercivity at measurement times t′=103 and 10−5 s (pulse field) were measured, and defined as Hr and HrP. The remanence coercivity on the recording time scale, Hr (1 ns), and the energy barrier, ΔE/kT, were evaluated by fitting Hr and HrP to Sharrock's equation taking into account the power law variation of the energy barrier, n. The value of Hr (1 ns) for a (Co–Pt)–SiO2 (9 nm)/Co–SiO2 (2 nm) stacked medium with an interfacial coupling control layer was about 9 kOe, which was less than half of that of a (Co–Pt)–SiO2 (9 nm) conventional medium (=21.3 kOe). The value of ΔE/kT for the stacked medium was about 111 (n=0.7), and was not significantly different from the conventional medium. Moreover, no significant difference in the rate of decrease of Hr with increasing temperature was observed between media with and without interlayers. These results indicate that the use of a thin soft layer with high Ms was effective at significantly reducing Hr with no notable change in thermal stability.  相似文献

A simple technique for bit-patterned media was proposed to increase achievable areal recording densities beyond 2 Tbit/in2. Introduction of longitudinal magnetic anisotropy to the media indicated reduced effect of magnetostatic interaction between the dots. Recording simulation with a shielded planar pole head exhibited increased write shift margins in both down and cross track directions compared with that of the perpendicular anisotropy media. It was suggested that recording of an areal density of 2.5 Tbit/in2 would be realized with a down and cross track margins of 3.5 and 4.0 nm, respectively. Better recording performance at high areal densities is expected if suitable head could be designed.  相似文献

The influence of a Mn layer on the magnetic properties of sputtered Pr-Fe-B/Mn films with Cu spacer layer has been investigated for various Mn layer thicknesses. The Pr-Fe-B/Mn films all possess perpendicular anisotropy. An enhancement of the intrinsic coercivity iHc is observed for suitable Mn layer thickness and iHc exhibits an oscillatory dependence on the thickness of the Mn layer with a period of about 60 nm. The average size of the columnar Pr2Fe14B grains is about 100 nm. A highest iHc value of 22.1 kOe and an optimal (BH)max value of 18.2 MGOe are reported for these Pr-Fe-B/Mn films.  相似文献

Magnetization reversal mechanism in nanostructures composed of exchange coupled bi-layers with in-plane and perpendicular anisotropy was investigated. Micromagnetic simulation was carried out for bit-patterned media with areal density of 5 Tb/in2, as example. Magnetization of thermally stable recorded bit using a single layer may not switch under write field. However, a complete and fast switching is possible with an exchange coupling to a layer with in-plane anisotropy. By adjusting the thicknesses and intrinsic properties of the two layers, the composite recording layer still can retain perpendicular anisotropy. The exchange coupled structure with dual-anisotropy can be extended to magnetic memories.  相似文献

We report a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) growth of VMn/CoCrPt bilayer with a magnetic coercivity (Hc) of 2.2 kOe and a grain size of 12 nm. The effects of VMn underlayer on magnetic properties of CoCrPt layer were studied. The coercivity, Hc, and squareness, S, of VMn/CoCrPt bilayer, is dependent on the thickness of VMn. The grain size of the CoCrPt film can also be modified by laser parameters. High laser fluence used for CoCrPt deposition produces a smaller grain size. Enhanced Hc and reduced grain size in VMn/CoCrPt is explained by more pronounced surface phase segregation during deposition at high laser fluence.  相似文献

The magnetic behavior of polycrystalline yttrium orthoferrite was studied from the experimental and theoretical points of view. Magnetization measurements up to 170 kOe were carried out on a single-phase YFeO3 sample synthesized from heterobimetallic alkoxides. The complex interplay between weak-ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions, observed in the experimental M(H) curves, was successfully simulated by locally minimizing the magnetic energy of two interacting Fe sublattices. The resulting values of exchange field (HE=5590 kOe), anisotropy field (HA=0.5 kOe) and Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya antisymmetric field (HD=149 kOe) are in good agreement with previous reports on this system.  相似文献

Small crystallites of a metastable phase Co0.5Pt0.5 are precipitated by heating a rheological liquid precursor of cobalt–hydrazine complex and platinum chloride H2PtCl6·xH2O in polymer molecules of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) in ethylene glycol. The hydrazine co-reduces nascent atoms from the Co2+ and Pt4+ that recombine and grow as Co0.5Pt0.5. The PVP molecules cap a growing Co0.5Pt0.5 as it achieves a critical size so that it stops growing further in given conditions. X-ray diffraction pattern of a recovered powder reveals a crystalline Co0.5Pt0.5 phase (average crystallite size D∼8 nm) of a well-known Fm3m-fcc crystal structure with the lattice parameter a=0.3916 nm (density ρ=14.09 g/cm3). A more ordered L10 phase (ρ=15.91 g/cm3) transforms (D≥25 nm) upon annealing the powder at temperature lesser than 700 °C (in vacuum). At room temperature, the virgin crystallites bear only a small saturation magnetization Ms=5.54 emu/g (D=8 nm) of a soft magnet and it hardly grows on bigger sizes (D≤31 nm) in a canted ferromagnetic structure. A rectangular hysteresis loop is markedly expanded on an optimally annealed L10 phase at 800 °C for 60 min, showing a surface modified coercivity Hc=7.781 kOe with remnant ratio Mr/Ms=0.5564, and Ms=39.75 emu/g. Crystallites self-assembled in an acicular shape tailor large Hc from ideal single domains and high magnetocrystalline anisotropy of a hard magnet L10 phase.  相似文献

The effect of continuous layer on CoCrPt–SiO2 granular layer is studied in coupled granular continuous (CGC) perpendicular recording media. In the cross-section transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation, magnetic grain in the granular layer shows columnar structure, while Co/Pd multilayer shows continuous layer. The plane-view TEM image of the granular layer shows well-isolated grain structure with average grain size of around 6 nm, and grain-to-grain separation width of around 2 nm. Therefore, the interactions among the grains are negligible (J∼0). By depositing a continuous layer on a CoCrPt–SiO2 granular layer, the grains in the granular layer are magnetically coupled through capping layer that leads to the suppression of magnetic anisotropy dispersion. This CGC structure reduces the coercivity dispersion (ΔHc/HcΔHc/Hc) from 0.26 to 0.15 and saturation field (Hs) from 10.4 to 6.7 kOe. The reduction of Hs and ΔHc/HcΔHc/Hc improves the OW by 21.3 dB. The small ΔHc/HcΔHc/Hc also maintains SNR of CGC media with strong magnetic exchange coupling. Furthermore, the coupling of grains through continuous layer enlarges the magnetic nucleation field (Hn) from 0.4 to −1.7 kOe. Consequently, CGC media shows better thermal stability compared to non-CGC media.  相似文献

The TbxHo0.75−xPr0.25(Fe0.9B0.1)2 (x=0, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, and 0.3) compounds are found to stabilize in a cubic Laves phase structure. The lattice parameter, magnetostriction (at 10 kOe), and Curie temperature are found to increase with increasing Tb content. The compound with x=0.15 exhibits a possible anisotropy compensation between the Tb and (Ho/Pr) sublattices. The easy magnetization direction rotates towards the 〈1 1 1〉 from the 〈1 0 0〉 direction, with increasing Tb content. The splitting of the (4 4 0) peak accompanied by the spontaneous magnetostriction-induced rhombohedral distortion is observed for compounds with x?0.15 and the spontaneous magnetostriction (λ1 1 1) is found to increase with Tb content.  相似文献

Bit patterned media (BPM) recording is a candidate for extremely high density magnetic recording. A micromagnetic model is built up to analyze the phase diagram of the correct-write-in condition in BPM above 2 Tb/in.2 fabricated by lithography or ion irradiation methods. The target of the study is to acquire the relationship between the recording performance and the magnetic properties of the media. The medium includes the polycrystalline grains and grain boundary. In BPM fabricated by lithography with FCT structure, two phase diagrams of the correct-write-in condition are found for the anisotropy angular distribution Δθ, the ratio of tetragonal anisotropy K22 to uniaxial anisotropy K1 and the uniaxial anisotropy distribution ΔK1. In BPM fabricated by ion irradiation methods, two phase diagrams of the correct-write-in condition are analyzed for the ratio of saturation magnetization Ms/Ms, anisotropy field Hk/Hk and the exchange field Hex/Hex in the ion irradiated region and the bit islands.  相似文献
