It is well known that in three-person transferable-utility cooperative games the bargaining set ℳi 1 and the core coincide for any coalition structure, provided the latter solution is not empty. In contrast, five-person totally-balanced games are discussed in the literature in which the bargaining set ℳi 1 (for the grand coalition) is larger then the core. This paper answers the equivalence question in the remaining four-person case. We prove that in any four-person game and for arbitrary coalition structure, whenever the core is not empty, it coincides with the bargaining set ℳi 1. Our discussion employs a generalization of balancedness to games with coalition structures. Received: August 2001/Revised version: April 2002  相似文献

We provide two new characterizations of exact games. First, a game is exact if and only if it is exactly balanced; and second, a game is exact if and only if it is totally balanced and overbalanced. The condition of exact balancedness is identical to the one of balancedness, except that one of the balancing weights may be negative, while for overbalancedness one of the balancing weights is required to be non-positive and no weight is put on the grand coalition. Exact balancedness and overbalancedness are both easy to formulate conditions with a natural game-theoretic interpretation and are shown to be useful in applications. Using exact balancedness we show that exact games are convex for the grand coalition and we provide an alternative proof that the classes of convex and totally exact games coincide. We provide an example of a game that is totally balanced and convex for the grand coalition, but not exact. Finally we relate classes of balanced, totally balanced, convex for the grand coalition, exact, totally exact, and convex games to one another.  相似文献

The Nakamura Theorem for coalition structures of quota games   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper considers a model of society $S$ with a finite number of individuals,n, a finite set off alternatives, Ω effective coalitions that must contain ana priori given numberq of individuals. Its purpose is to extend the Nakamura Theorem (1979) to the quota games where individuals are allowed to form groups of sizeq which are smaller than the grand coalition. Our main result determines the upper bound on the number of alternatives which would guarantee, for a given e andq, the existence of a stable coalition structure for any profile of complete transitive preference relations. Our notion of stability, $S$ -equilibrium, introduced by Greenberg-Weber (1993), combines bothfree entry andfree mobility and represents the natural extension of the core to improper or non-superadditive games where coalition structures, and not only the grand coalition, are allowed to form.  相似文献

In this paper, we deal with Aubin cores and bargaining sets in convex cooperative fuzzy games. We first give a simple and direct proof to the well-known result (proved by Branzei et al. (Fuzzy Sets Syst 139:267–281, 2003)) that for a convex cooperative fuzzy game v, its Aubin core C(v) coincides with its crisp core C cr (v). We then introduce the concept of bargaining sets for cooperative fuzzy games and prove that for a continuous convex cooperative fuzzy game v, its bargaining set coincides with its Aubin core, which extends a well-known result by Maschler et al. for classical cooperative games to cooperative fuzzy games. We also show that some results proved by Shapley (Int J Game Theory 1:11–26, 1971) for classical decomposable convex cooperative games can be extended to convex cooperative fuzzy games.  相似文献

This paper deals with the question of coalition formation inn-person cooperative games. Two abstract game models of coalition formation are proposed. We then study the core and the dynamic solution of these abstract games. These models assume that there is a rule governing the allocation of payoffs to each player in each coalition structure called a payoff solution concept. The predictions of these models are characterized for the special case of games with side payments using various payoff solution concepts such as the individually rational payoffs, the core, the Shapley value and the bargaining set M1 (i). Some modifications of these models are also discussed.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce and analyze new classes of cooperative games related to facility location models defined on general metric spaces. The players are the customers (demand points) in the location problem and the characteristic value of a coalition is the cost of serving its members. Specifically, the cost in our games is the service radius of the coalition. We call these games the Minimum Radius Location Games (MRLG).We study the existence of core allocations and the existence of polynomial representations of the cores of these games, focusing on network spaces, i.e., finite metric spaces induced by undirected graphs and positive edge lengths, and on the ?p metric spaces defined over Rd.  相似文献

A new solution concept for cooperative transferable utility games is introduced, which is strongly related to the nucleolus and therefore called modified nucleolus. It takes into account both the “power”, i.e. the worth, and the “blocking power” of a coalition, i.e. the amount which the coalition cannot be prevented from by the complement coalition. It can be shown that the modified nucleolus is reasonable, individually rational for weakly superadditive games, coincides with the prenucleolus for constant-sum games, and is contained in the core for convex games. Finally this paper proposes two axiomatizations of this solution concept on the set of games on an infinite universe of players which are similar to Sobolev's characterization of the prenucleolus.  相似文献

We describe a coalitional value from a non-cooperative point of view, assuming coalitions are formed for the purpose of bargaining. The idea is that all the players have the same chances to make proposals. This means that players maintain their own “right to talk” when joining a coalition. The resulting value coincides with the weighted Shapley value in the game between coalitions, with weights given by the size of the coalitions. Moreover, the Harsanyi paradox (forming a coalition may be disadvantageous) disappears for convex games.  相似文献

In a transshipment game, supply chain agents cooperate to transship surplus products. Although the game has been well studied in the OR literature, the fundamental question whether the agents can afford cooperation costs to set up and maintain the game in the first place has not been addressed thus far. This paper addresses this question for the cooperative transshipment games with identical agents having normally distributed independent demands. We provide characterization of equal allocations which are in the core of symmetric games, and prove that not all transshipment games are convex. In particular, we prove that though individual allocations grow with the coalition size, the growth diminishes according to two rules of diminishing individual allocations. These results are the basis for studying the games with cooperation costs. We model the cooperation costs by the cooperation network topology and the cooperation cost per network link. We consider two network topologies, the clique and the hub, and prove bounds for the cost per link that render coalitions stable. These bounds always limit coalition size for cliques. However, the opposite is shown for hubs, namely newsvendors can afford cooperation costs only if their coalition is sufficiently large.  相似文献

A payoff vector in ann-person cooperative game is said to be acceptable if no coalition can improve upon it. The core of a game consists of all acceptable vectors which are feasible for the grand coalition. The core is said to be large if for every acceptable vectory there is a vectorx in the core withx?y. This paper examines the class of games with large cores.  相似文献

In a standard TU-game it is assumed that every subset of the player set N can form a coalition and earn its worth. One of the first models where restrictions in cooperation are considered is the one of games with coalition structure of Aumann and Drèze (1974). They assumed that the player set is partitioned into unions and that players can only cooperate within their own union. Owen (1977) introduced a value for games with coalition structure under the assumption that also the unions can cooperate among them. Winter (1989) extended this value to games with levels structure of cooperation, which consists of a game and a finite sequence of partitions defined on the player set, each of them being coarser than the previous one.  相似文献

It is shown that a locally Lipschitz function is approximately convex if, and only if, its Clarke subdifferential is a submonotone operator. Consequently, in finite dimensions, the class of locally Lipschitz approximately convex functions coincides with the class of lower-C1 functions. Directional approximate convexity is introduced and shown to be a natural extension of the class of lower-C1 functions in infinite dimensions. The following characterization is established: a multivalued operator is maximal cyclically submonotone if, and only if, it coincides with the Clarke subdifferential of a locally Lipschitz directionally approximately convex function, which is unique up to a constant. Furthermore, it is shown that in Asplund spaces, every regular function is generically approximately convex.  相似文献

We consider a class of coalition formation games called hedonic games, i.e., games in which the utility of a player is completely determined by the coalition that the player belongs to. We first define the class of subset-additive hedonic games and show that they have the same representation power as the class of hedonic games. We then define a restriction of subset-additive hedonic games that we call subset-neutral hedonic games and generalize a result by Bogomolnaia and Jackson (2002) by showing the existence of a Nash stable partition and an individually stable partition in such games. We also consider neutrally anonymous hedonic games and show that they form a subclass of the subset-additive hedonic games. Finally, we show the existence of a core stable partition that is also individually stable in neutrally anonymous hedonic games by exhibiting an algorithm to compute such a partition.  相似文献

A value function for cooperative games with transferable utility assigns to every game a distribution of the payoffs. A value function is efficient if for every such a game it exactly distributes the worth that can be obtained by all players cooperating together. An approach to efficiently allocate the worth of the ‘grand coalition’ is using share functions which assign to every game a vector whose components sum up to one. Every component of this vector is the corresponding players’ share in the total payoff that is to be distributed. In this paper we give characterizations of a class of share functions containing the Shapley share function and the Banzhaf share function using generalizations of potentials and of Hart and Mas-Colell's reduced game property.  相似文献

Various bargaining set theories are compared as predictors of coalition government portfolio distribution. While the kernel and B1-bargaining set are known to exist in voting games with side payments, it is argued that the kernel, and thus B1, are poor predictors. The B2-bargaining set, a subset of B1, when it exists is shown to be a good payoff predictor in a fractionalized and depolarized parliamentary situation (Finland: 1945ndash;1971). Moreover this predictor provides some explanation for the formation of surplus (winning but not minimal) coalitions.  相似文献

The core of ann-person game is the set of feasible outcomes that cannot be improved upon by any coalition of players. A convex game is defined as one that is based on a convex set function. In this paper it is shown that the core of a convex game is not empty and that it has an especially regular structure. It is further shown that certain other cooperative solution concepts are related in a simple way to the core: The value of a convex game is the center of gravity of the extreme points of the core, and the von Neumann-Morgenstern stable set solution of a convex game is unique and coincides with the core.  相似文献

In this paper we study the behavior of the limit distance function d(x)=limdist(x,Cn) defined by a nested sequence (Cn) of subsets of a real Banach space X. We first present some new criteria for the non-emptiness of the intersection of a nested sequence of sets and of their ε-neighborhoods from which we derive, among other results, Dilworth's characterization [S.J. Dilworth, Intersections of centred sets in normed spaces, Far East J. Math. Sci. (Part II) (1988) 129-136 (special volume)] of Banach spaces not containing c0 and Marino's result [G. Marino, A remark on intersection of convex sets, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 284 (2003) 775-778]. Passing then to the approximation of the limit distance function, we show three types of results: (i) that the limit distance function defined by a nested sequence of non-empty bounded closed convex sets coincides with the distance function to the intersection of the weak-closures in the bidual; this extends and improves the results in [J.M.F. Castillo, P.L. Papini, Distance types in Banach spaces, Set-Valued Anal. 7 (1999) 101-115]; (ii) that the convexity condition is necessary; and (iii) that in spaces with separable dual, the distance function to a weak-compact convex set is approximable by a (non-necessarily nested) sequence of bounded closed convex sets of the space.

The coalition formation problem in an economy with externalities can be adequately modeled by using games in partition function form (PFF games), proposed by Thrall and Lucas. If we suppose that forming the grand coalition generates the largest total surplus, a central question is how to allocate the worth of the grand coalition to each player, i.e., how to find an adequate solution concept, taking into account the whole process of coalition formation. We propose in this paper the original concepts of scenario-value, process-value and coalition formation value, which represent the average contribution of players in a scenario (a particular sequence of coalitions within a given coalition formation process), in a process (a sequence of partitions of the society), and in the whole (all processes being taken into account), respectively. We give also two axiomatizations of our coalition formation value.  相似文献

We consider an alternative expression of the Shapley value that reveals a system of compensations: each player receives an equal share of the worth of each coalition he belongs to, and has to compensate an equal share of the worth of any coalition he does not belong to. We give a representation in terms of formation of the grand coalition according to an ordering of the players and define the corresponding compensation vector. Then, we generalize this idea to cooperative games with a communication graph in order to construct new allocation rules called the compensation solutions. Firstly, we consider cooperative games with arbitrary graphs and construct rooted spanning trees (see Demange, J Political Econ 112:754–778, 2004) instead of orderings of the players by using the classical algorithms DFS and BFS. If the graph is complete, we show that the compensation solutions associated with DFS and BFS coincide with the Shapley value and the equal surplus division respectively. Secondly, we consider cooperative games with a forest (cycle-free graph) and all its rooted spanning trees. The compensation solution is characterized by component efficiency and relative fairness. The latter axiom takes into account the relative position of a player with respect to his component in the communication graph.  相似文献
