The curing reaction and kinetics of o‐cresol formaldehyde epoxy resin (o‐CFER) with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane of N‐aminoethyl‐γ‐amino propyl group (AEAP‐POSS) were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The thermal, mechanical, and dielectric properties of o‐CFER/AEAP‐POSS nanocomposites were investigated with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), torsional braid analysis (TBA), tensile tester, impact tester, and electric analyzer, respectively. The results show that the activation energy (E) of curing reaction is 58.08 kJ/mol, and the curing reaction well followed the ?esták‐Berggren (S‐B) autocatalytic model. The glass transition temperature (Tg) increases with the increase in AEAP‐POSS content, and reaches the maximum, 107°C, when the molar ratio (Ns) of amino group to epoxy group is 0.5. The nanocomposites containing a higher percentage of AEAP‐POSS exhibited a higher thermostability. The AEAP‐POSS can effectively increase the mechanical properties of epoxy resin, and the tensile and impact strengths are 2.84 MPa and 143.25 kJ m?2, respectively, when Ns is 0.5. The dielectric constant (ε), dielectric loss factor (tan δ), volume resistivity (ρv), and surface resistivity (ρs) are 4.98, 3.11 × 10?4, 3.17 × 1012 Ω cm3, and 1.41 × 1012 Ω cm2, respectively, similarly at Ns 0.5. The IPI‐POSS‐modified epoxy resin (IPEP) was prepared from isocyanato‐propyldinethylsilyl‐isobutyl‐POSS (IPI‐POSS) and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A epoxy resin. The steric hindrance of the IPEP bulky POSS side chain improved the curing activation energies. The POSS particles sizes were about 2–3 nm and dispersed uniformly. At lower IPEP concentration (POSS < 12 wt %), the glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of the IPEP nanocomposites increased from 118 to 170 °C. The char yield increased from 15 to 20 wt %, and the LOI values increased from 22 to 28. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 48: 643–652, 2010  相似文献

Poly[isobutyl methacrylate‐co‐butanediol dimethacrylate‐co‐3‐methacrylylpropylheptaisobutyl‐T8‐polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane] [P(iBMA‐co‐BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS)] nanocomposites with different crosslink densities and different polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MA‐POSS) percentages (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 wt %) were synthesized by radical‐initiated terpolymerization. Linear [P(iBMA‐co‐MA‐POSS)] copolymers were also prepared. The viscoelastic properties and morphologies were studied by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, confocal microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The viscoelastic properties depended on the crosslink density. The dependence of viscoelastic properties on MA‐POSS content at a low BDMA loading (1 wt %) was similar to that of linear P(iBMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) copolymers. P(iBMA‐co‐1 wt % BDMA‐co‐10 wt % MA‐POSS) exhibited the highest dynamic storage modulus (E′) values in the rubbery region of this series. The 30 wt % MA‐POSS nanocomposites with 1 wt % BDMA exhibited the lowest E′. However, the E′ values in the rubbery region for P(iBMA‐co‐3 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites with 15 and 30 wt % MA‐POSS were higher than those of the parent P(iBMA‐co‐3 wt % BDMA) resin. MA‐POSS raised the E′ values of all P(iBMA‐co‐ 5 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites in the rubbery region above those of P(iBMA‐co‐5 wt % BDMA), but MA‐POSS loadings < 15 wt % had little influence on glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) and slightly reduced Tg values with 20 or 30 wt % POSS. Heating history had little influence on viscoelastic properties. No POSS aggregates were observed for the P(iBMA‐co‐1 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites by TEM. POSS‐rich particles with diameters of several micrometers were present in the nanocomposites with 3 or 5 wt % BDMA. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: This investigation presents a simultaneous and convenient approach to produce a high‐performance polyimide with a low dielectric constant by introducing the octa‐acrylated polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (methacrylated‐POSS) into a polyimide matrix to form polyimide semi‐interpenetrating polymer network (semi‐IPN) nanocomposites. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier‐transform infrared (FT‐IR) results indicate that the self‐curing of methacrylated‐POSS and the imidization of polyamic acid (PAA) occurs simultaneously. The morphology of a semi‐IPN structure of polyimide/POSS‐PI/POSS nanocomposites with POSS nanoparticles embedded inside the matrix is elucidated. The POSS particles are uniform and are aggregated to a size of approximately 50–60 nm inside the polyimide matrix. The interconnected POSS particles are observed at high POSS content. The structure is highly cross‐linked, so the PI/POSS nanocomposites have an enhanced glass transition temperature. The high porosity of the PI/POSS nanocomposites markedly reduces the dielectric constant of PI because of the nanometer‐scale porous structure of POSS.

Polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane (POSS), having eight hydroxyl groups for the preparation of nanocomposites with polyimide (PI) was synthesized by the direct hydrosilylation of allyl alcohol with octasilsesquioxane (Q8M8H) with platinum divinyltetramethyl disiloxane Pt(dvs) as a catalyst. The structure of allyl alcohol terminated‐POSS (POSS‐OH) was confirmed by FTIR, NMR, and XRD. A high performance, low‐k PI nanocomposite from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA)‐4,4'‐oxydianiline (ODA) polyamic acid cured with POSS‐OH was also successfully synthesized. The incorporation of POSS‐OH into PI matrix reduced dielectric constant of PI without loosing mechanical properties. Furthermore, the effects of POSS‐OH on the morphology and properties of the PI/POSS‐OH nanocomposites were investigated using UV–vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, AFM, transmission electron microscope (TEM), TGA, and contact angle. The homogeneous dispersion of POSS particles was confirmed by SEM, AFM, and TEM. The nanoindentation showed that the modulus increased upon increasing the concentration of POSS‐OH in PI, whereas the hardness did not increase very much with respect to loading of POSS, due to soft‐interphase around POSS molecules in the resulting nanocomposites. Overall results demonstrated the nanometer‐level integration of the polymer and POSS‐OH. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 5887–5896, 2008  相似文献

A polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) consisting of a mixture of perfect and imperfect polyhedra with 8–10 Si atoms bonded to bulky and branched organic groups functionalized with (β‐hydroxy)‐tertiary amines, was adsorbed on an activated silica from a toluene solution. POSS fixation was confirmed by measuring its concentration in the solutions resulting from filtering and repeatedly washing with toluene. Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier‐transformed (DRIFTS) spectra of the modified silica showed a decrease in the absorption of isolated SiOH groups. A POSS previously marked by reaction with an isocyanate was also used, and the presence of the carbonyl in the urethane group was recorded in the DRIFTS spectra of the modified silica, confirming the presence of adsorbed POSS. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to measure the amount of Si (2p) of POSS adsorbed on the SiO2 surface as a function of the POSS concentration in the toluene solution. A linear increase of adsorbed POSS as a function of its concentration in toluene was found, even after successive washings with toluene. A metallocene, (nBuCp)2ZrCl2, was then adsorbed on the POSS‐modified silica from a toluene solution, and the fixed Zr amount was measured by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS). The activity of the resulting catalyst for ethylene polymerization in toluene, using methylaluminoxane (MAO) as a cocatalyst, was determined in two different devices operating in the range of 1.6–7.0 bar. Under every experimental condition, POSS‐modification of the silica support led to an increase of about 50% in the activity of the resulting catalyst when compared to the use of the unmodified support. Reasons for the observed increase in activity are discussed. The molar mass distribution and crystallinity of the resulting polyethylenes was not affected by the POSS modification of the silica support. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, we used click chemistry to synthesize a new macromolecular self‐assembling building blocks, linear polypeptide‐b‐polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) copolymers, from a mono‐azido–functionalized POSS (N3‐POSS) and several alkyne‐poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (alkyne‐PBLG) systems. The incorporation of the POSS unit at the chain end of the PBLG moiety allowed intramolecular hydrogen bonding to occur between the POSS and PBLG units, thereby enhancing the α‐helical conformation in the solid state, as determined through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction analyses. POSS‐b‐PBLG underwent hierarchical self‐assembly, characterized using small‐angle X‐ray scattering, to form a bilayer‐like nanostructure featuring α‐helical or β‐sheet conformations and POSS aggregates. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the thermal degradation temperature increased significantly after incorporation of the POSS moiety, which presumably formed an inorganic protection layer on the nanocomposite's surface. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis, micelle formation, and bulk properties of semifluorinated amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(pentafluorostyrene)‐g‐cubic polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS) hybrid copolymers is reported. The synthesis of amphiphilic PEG‐b‐PPFS block copolymers are achieved using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) at 100 °C in trifluorotoluene using modified poly(ethylene glycol) as a macroinitiator. Subsequently, a proportion of the reactive para‐F functionality on the pentafluorostyrene units was replaced with aminopropylisobutyl POSS through aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions. The products were fully characterized by 1H‐NMR and GPC. The products, PEG‐b‐PPFS and PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS, were subsequently self‐assembled in aqueous solutions to form micellar structures. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc) were estimated using two different techniques: fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The cmc was found to decrease concomitantly with the number of POSS particles grafted per copolymer chain. The hydrodynamic particle sizes (Rh) of the micelles, calculated from DLS data, increase as the number of POSS molecules grafted per copolymer chain increases. For example, Rh increased from ~60 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS to ~80 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS25 (25 is the average number of POSS particles grafted copolymer chain). Static light scattering (SLS) data confirm that the formation of larger micelles by higher POSS containing copolymers results from higher aggregation numbers (Nagg), caused by increased hydrophobicity. The Rg/Rh values, where Rg is the radius of gyration calculated from SLS data, are consistent with a spherical particle model having a core‐shell structure. Thermal characterization by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) reveals that the grafted POSS acts as a plasticizer; the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the PPFS block in the copolymer decreases significantly with increasing POSS content. Finally, the rhombohedral crystal structure of POSS in PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS was verified by wide angle X‐ray diffraction measurements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organic–inorganic hybrid diblock copolymers composed of poly(ε‐caprolactone) and poly(MA POSS) [PCL‐b‐P(MA POSS)] were synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of 3‐methacryloxypropylheptaphenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MA POSS) with dithiobenzoate‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) as the macromolecular chain transfer agent. The dithiobenzoate‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐CTA) was synthesized via the atom transfer radical reaction of 2‐bromopropionyl‐terminated PCL with bis(thiobenzoyl)disulfide in the presence of the complex of copper (I) bromide with N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine. The results of molecular weights and polydispersity indicate that the polymerizations were in a controlled fashion. The organic–inorganic diblock copolymer was incorporated into epoxy to afford the organic–inorganic nanocomposites. The nanostructures of the organic–inorganic composites were investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the organic–inorganic nanocomposites displayed the increased yields of degradation residues compared to the control epoxy. In the organic–inorganic nanocomposites, the inorganic block [viz., P(MA POSS)] had a tendency to enrich at the surface of the materials and the dewettability of surface for the organic–inorganic nanocomposites were improved in terms of the measurement of surface contact angles. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Octaphenylsilsesquioxane (PH‐POSS) and octa(γ‐methacryloxypropyl)silsesquioxane (MA‐POSS) were successfully synthesized by hydrolytic condensation of phenyltrichlorosilane and γ‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR), 1H and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization‐time of flight (MALDI‐TOF) mass spectrum. Morphology, degradation behavior, thermal, and mechanical properties of hybrid composites were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), surface contact angle (SCA), tensile, and impact testing. Domains of PH‐POSS and MA‐POSS dispersed in the matrix with a wide size distribution in a range of 0.1–0.5 µm, while PH‐POSS exhibited a preferential dispersion. Because of the possible homopolymerization of MA‐POSS during the melt blending, the glass transition temperature of polycarbonate (PC)/MA‐POSS composites remained nearly unchanged with respect to PC/PH‐POSS composites that showed a depression of Tg due to the plasticization effect. It is interesting to note that the incorporation of POSS retarded the degradation rates of PC composites and thus significantly improved the thermal stabilities. Si? O fractions left during POSS degradations were a key factor governing the formation of a gel network layer on the exterior surface. This layer possessed more compact structures, higher thermal stabilities, and some thermal insulation. In addition, percentage residues at 700°C (C700) significantly increased from 10.8% to 15.8–22.1% in air. Fracture stress of two composites showed a slight improvement, and the impact strength of them decreased monotonically with the increase of POSS loading. The distribution coefficients of oil and curing agent in PP/EPDM TPV were calculated by measuring the melting point of the PP phase using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The PP/EPDM TPV was prepared by using a twin screw extruder and a peroxide curing agent was used. The peroxide induces the degradation of PP, resulting in the decrease of Tm. The oil in PP phase also decreases the Tm. Based on the Tm difference among pure PP and PP/EPDM TPV before and after extraction by cylcohexane, the calculated oil distribution coefficient is 0.537. The addition sequence of PP, oil, and curing agent has a significant effect on the Tm and the calculated curing agent distribution coefficient is 0.52. Both of the coefficients are less than 1. Based on the calculation of the two coefficients, a rationale design of thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) can be made by proper control of raw materials, addition sequence, and processing parameters. This work demonstrates a new reactive and functional hybrid (S‐MMA‐POSS) of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and sulfur prepared with a direct reaction between a multifunctional methacrylated POSS compound (MMA‐POSS) and elemental sulfur (S8) through the “inverse vulcanization” process. S‐MMA‐POSS is an effective building block for imparting self‐healing ability to the corresponding thermally crosslinked POSS‐containing nanocomposites through a self‐curing reaction and co‐curing reaction with conventional thermosetting resins. Moreover, S‐MMA‐POSS is also a useful precursor for preparation of materials with high transparency in mid‐infrared region.

The curing kinetics of bisphenol-F epoxy resin (BPFER) and curing agent 3-methyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride (MeTHPA), with N,N-dimethyl-benzylamine as an accelerator, were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Analysis of DSC data indicated that an autocatalytic behavior showed in the first stages of the cure for the system, which could be well described by the model proposed by Kamal, which includes two rate constants, k 1 and k 2, and two reaction orders, m andn. The curing reaction at the later stages was practically diffusion-controlled. To consider the diffusion effect more precisely, diffusion factor, d(a), was introduced into Kamal's equation. The glass transition temperatures (T gs) of the BPFER/MeTHPA samples were determined by means of torsional braid analysis (TBA). The thermal degradation kinetics of cured BPFER were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TG). This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A novel hybrid‐type chiral binaphthyl‐based polyarylene derivative with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) units 2a was prepared by Suzuki–Miyaura coupling polymerization from a chiral (R)‐6,6′‐dibromo‐2,2′‐diPOSS‐substituted 1,1′‐binaphthyl derivative 1a and p‐biphenylene diboronic acid. As a reference, a binaphthyl‐based polyarylene derivative without POSS unit 2b was also prepared. The obtained polymers were studied with thermogravimetric analysis, optical rotations, circular dichroism (CD), ultraviolet‐visible, and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. Gel permeation chromatography measurements of 2a and 2b showed that their number‐average molecular weights were 13,300 and 16,500, respectively. The thermal stability of POSS‐modified polymer 2a (temperature of 10% weight loss; T10 = 380 °C) was extremely high compared with that of polymer without POSS unit 2b (T10 = 335 °C) due to the siliceous bulky POSS segments on the side chains. The specific optical rotation [α]D was ?66.7° (c 0.06, CHCl3) for 2a and ?62.3° (c 0.06, CHCl3) for 2b . The CD spectra showed that these two polymers had very similar and strong Cotton effects. Film polymer 2a showed almost the same PL spectrum as that in dilute CHCl3 solution, indicating that bulky POSS units strongly suppressed intermolecular aggregation of the π‐conjugated polymer backbone. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 3‐Acryloxypropylhepta(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was synthesized and used as a modifier to improve the thermal response rates of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel. The radical copolymerization among N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), the POSS macromer and N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide was performed to prepare the POSS‐containing PNIPAM cross‐linked networks. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the POSS‐containing PNIPAM networks displayed the enhanced glass transition temperatures (Tg's) and improved thermal stability when compared with plain PNIPAM network. The POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels exhibited temperature‐responsive behavior as the plain PNIPAM hydrogels. It is noted that with the moderate contents of POSS, the POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels displayed much faster response rates in terms of swelling, deswelling, and re‐swelling experiments than plain PNIPAM hydrogel. The improved thermoresponsive properties of hydrogels have been interpreted on the basis of the formation of the specific microphase‐separated morphology in the hydrogels, that is, the POSS structural units in the hybrid hydrogels were self‐assembled into the highly hydrophobic nanodomains, which behave as the microporogens and promote the contact of PNIPAM chains and water. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) polymers were synthesized by the dehydrogenative condensation of (HSiO3/2)8 with water in the presence of diethylhydroxylamine followed by trimethylsilylation. Coating films were prepared by spin‐coating of the coating solution prepared by the dehydrogenative condensation of POSS. The hardness of the coating films was evaluated using a pencil‐hardness test and was found to increase up to 8H with increases in the curing temperature. Free‐standing film and silica gel powder were prepared by aging the coating solution at room temperature. The silica gel powder was subjected to heat treatment under air atmosphere to show a specific surface area of 440 m2 g−1 at 100 °C, which showed a maximum at 400 °C as 550 m2 g−1. A boron‐containing phenol–formaldehyde resin (BPFR) was synthesized from boric acid, phenol, and paraformaldehyde. The curing reaction of BPFR was studied by Fourier‐transform infrared spectrometry and differential scanning calorimetry. According to the heat evolution behavior during the curing process, several influencing factors on isothermal curing reaction were evaluated. The results show that the isothermal kinetic reaction of BPFR follows autocatalytic kinetics mechanism, and kinetic parameters m, n, k1, and k2, were derived, respectively. In the latter reaction stage, the curing reaction becomes controlled mainly by diffusion. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Chem Kinet 34: 638–644, 2002  相似文献

Solid bisphenol-A epoxy resin (DGEBA) of medium molecular mass was cured using o-tolylbiguanide (TBG) as cross-linking agent. In order to improve the kinetics of the reactive system, two Lewis acid catalysts (erbium(III) and ytterbium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonates) were added in proportions of 1 phr. The kinetic study was performed by dynamic scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the complete kinetic triplet (E, A and g(α)) determined. The kinetic analysis was performed with an integral isoconversional procedure (model-free), and the kinetic model was determined by the Coats-Redfern method and through the compensation effect (IKR). All the systems followed the m=1.5/n=0.5 isothermal curing model simulated from non-isothermal experiments. The addition of a little proportion of ytterbium or erbium triflates accelerated the curing process. In order to extract further information about the role of the lanthanide triflates added to epoxy/TBG systems, the kinetic results were compared with our previous kinetic studies made on DGEBA/lanthanide triflates initiated systems.  相似文献

Supramolecular inclusion complexes (ICs) involving polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) capped poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) and α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) were investigated. POSS‐terminated PCLs with various molecular weights were prepared via the ring‐opening polymerization of ?‐caprolactone (CL) with 3‐hydroxypropylheptaphenyl POSS as an initiator. Because of the presence of the bulky silsesquioxane terminal group, the inclusion complexation between α‐CD and the POSS‐capped PCL was carried out only with a single end of a PCL chain threading inside the cavity of α‐CD, which allowed the evaluation of the effect of the POSS terminal groups on the efficiency of the inclusion complexation. The X‐ray diffraction results indicated that the organic–inorganic ICs had a channel‐type crystalline structure. The stoichiometry of the organic–inorganic ICs was quite dependent on the molecular weights of the POSS‐capped PCLs. With moderate molecular weights of the POSS‐capped PCLs (e.g., Mn =3860 or 9880), the stoichiometry was 1:1 mol/mol (CL unit/α‐CD), which was close to the literature value based on the inclusion complexation of α‐CD with normal linear PCL chains with comparable molecular weights. When the PCL chains were shorter (e.g., for the POSS‐capped PCL of Mn = 1720 or 2490), the efficiency of the inclusion complexation decreased. The decreased efficiency of the inclusion complexation could be attributed to the lower mobility of the bulky POSS group, which restricted the motion of the PCL chain attached to the silsesquioxane cage. This effect was pronounced with the decreasing length of the PCL chains. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 1247–1259, 2007  相似文献

Novel polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) or octasilsesquioxanes with carboranyl–styrene fragments attached to each corner are described. These compounds have been synthesized by olefin‐metathesis reactions between octavinylsilsesquioxane and carboranyl–styrene compounds that possess different substituents (Ph, Me, or H). In all cases, these reactions, which were catalyzed by the Grubbs catalyst, are highly regioselective and yield exclusively the E isomers. The existence of the carborane cage in the POSS structure induces a remarkable thermal stability in these compounds. After combustion at 1000 °C, these carboranyl–POSS compounds exhibit a mass loss lower than 10 %. The UV/Vis absorption data of these carboranyl–POSS compounds shows a slight bathochromic shift with respect to the carboranyl–styrene monomers, with an absorption maximum around 262 nm. Nevertheless, important differences in the emission spectra of the carboranyl–POSS compounds with regard to their carboranyl–styrene precursors are observed; the phenyl‐o‐carborane‐containing POSS compound exhibits the highest fluorescence intensity (ΦF=44 %), whereas for the POSS compound bearing the methyl substituent, and for the unsubstituted o‐carborane clusters, the fluorescence intensity is much lower (ΦF=9 and 2 %, respectively). This is precisely the reverse of what occurs with the monomers, in which the unsubstituted o‐carboranyl–styrene compound exhibits the highest ΦF, and a quenching of the fluorescence is observed in the phenyl‐o‐carboranyl–styrene compound. In addition, a large red shift of around 100 nm is observed for the POSS compounds with respect to their precursors. These experimental results can only be accounted for by the spatial ordering induced by the POSS core that eases interactions, which otherwise would not occur. These results have been confirmed by time‐dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations that exclude a photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process in the POSS compounds.  相似文献
