Cadmium (Cd) has a high toxicity and resolving its speciation in soil is challenging but essential for estimating the environmental risk. In this study partial least‐square (PLS) regression was tested for its capability to deconvolute Cd L3‐edge X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectra of multi‐compound mixtures. For this, a library of Cd reference compound spectra and a spectrum of a soil sample were acquired. A good coefficient of determination (R2) of Cd compounds in mixtures was obtained for the PLS model using binary and ternary mixtures of various Cd reference compounds proving the validity of this approach. In order to describe complex systems like soil, multi‐compound mixtures of a variety of Cd compounds must be included in the PLS model. The obtained PLS regression model was then applied to a highly Cd‐contaminated soil revealing Cd3(PO4)2 (36.1%), Cd(NO3)2·4H2O (24.5%), Cd(OH)2 (21.7%), CdCO3 (17.1%) and CdCl2 (0.4%). These preliminary results proved that PLS regression is a promising approach for a direct determination of Cd speciation in the solid phase of a soil sample.  相似文献

The distribution of the chemical elements in plants is closely correlated with biological functions. Micro X-ray fluorescence (μXRF) and X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectrometry can be used to determine uptake, translocation, and accumulation of the elements in plants. In this research, μXRF and XANES were applied in studying distribution of the elements in the vegetable and cereal seeds during germination and the mobilization. It was found that (a) the distribution of the elements in the seeds was element specific; (b) K and Ca were mainly located in the embryo. Fe and Zn, as well as Mn and Cu, concentrated near the radicle and new developed root. Most of Pb was located in the new developing root; (c) the organic-Pb complexes functioned as the main components of translocation of Pb in the seeds during germination, and the formation of Pb5(PO4)3Cl and Pb3(PO4)2 in seed and plant tissues was the mechanism of tolerance and detoxification to Pb in plants.  相似文献

Single crystals of thorium dioxide ThO2, grown by the hydrothermal growth technique, have been investigated by ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS), inverse photoemission spectroscopy (IPES), and L3, M3, M4, and M5 X‐ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES). The experimental band gap for large single crystals has been determined to be 6 eV to 7 eV, from UPS and IPES, in line with expectations. The combined UPS and IPES, place the Fermi level near the conduction band minimum, making these crystals n‐type, with extensive band tailing, suggesting an optical gap in the region of 4.8 eV for excitations from occupied to unoccupied edge states. Hybridization between the Th 6d/5f bands with O 2p is strongly implicated. (© 2014 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

This work reports an X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy study at the Ni K‐edge in the early stages of growth of NiO on non‐ordered SiO2, Al2O3 and MgO thin films substrates. Two different coverages of NiO on the substrates have been studied. The analysis of the XANES region shows that for high coverages (80 Eq‐ML) the spectra are similar to that of bulk NiO, being identical for all substrates. In contrast, for low coverages (1 Eq‐ML) the spectra differ from that of large coverages indicating that the local order around Ni is limited to the first two coordination shells. In addition, the results also suggest the formation of cross‐linking bonds Ni—O—M (M = Si, Al, Mg) at the interface.  相似文献

Pb can pass through the food chain via plants and threaten human health, which has attracted widespread attention. Changes in Pb speciation affect its bioavailability in soils and water. However, whether organic ligands can change the uptake and mobility of Pb in plants and increase or decrease Pb bioavailability remains uncertain. To reveal the roles of organic and inorganic Pb in Pb metabolism in plants, the localization and speciation changes of Pb in Arabidopsis thaliana plants grown in organic and inorganic Pb were characterized by synchrotron radiation micro X‐ray fluorescence and X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure, respectively. These results demonstrated that Arabidopsis absorbed more Pb from Pb(NO3)2 than Pb(CH3COO)2 at the same exposure concentration. A higher percentage of Pb‐citrate was found in Arabidopsis exposed to inorganic Pb solution, which suggested that Pb‐citrate was the main complex for root‐to‐shoot transportation in Arabidopsis exposed to inorganic Pb solutions. Pb complexed with the organic ligand CH3COO? significantly inhibited primary root growth and lateral root development, while, at the same time, Pb was blocked by root hairs, which represented another way to reduce Pb absorption and protect the plant from biotoxicity.  相似文献

The trace elements of scalp hair samples from ≥60‐year‐old dementia patients and normal persons have been studied by X‐ray absorption near‐edge spectroscopy (XANES) in fluorescent mode and wavelength‐dispersive X‐ray fluorescence spectrometry. Comparisons of hair trace element levels of age‐matched dementia patients and normal persons revealed significantly elevated amounts of calcium, chlorine and phosphorus in dementia patients relative to normal persons. The results of XANES measurements identify the chemical forms of deposited calcium and phosphorus in the hair samples of both dementia patients and normal persons to be calcium chloride (CaCl2) and phosphate (PO43?), respectively. The amount of sulfur in hairs of dementia patients was found to be not significantly different from that in normal persons. The sulfur K‐edge XANES spectra, however, show significantly higher accumulations of sulfur in the sulfate (SO42?) form in hairs of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease dementia patients. This study presents the possible roles of calcium, chlorine, phosphorus and sulfur in the etiology of dementia in elderly patients.  相似文献

Obtaining structural information of uranyl species at an atomic/molecular scale is a critical step to control and predict their physical and chemical properties. To obtain such information, experimental and theoretical L3‐edge X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectra of uranium were studied systematically for uranyl complexes. It was demonstrated that the bond lengths (R) in the uranyl species and relative energy positions (ΔE) of the XANES were determined as follows: ΔE1 = 168.3/R(U—Oax)2 ? 38.5 (for the axial plane) and ΔE2 = 428.4/R(U—Oeq)2 ? 37.1 (for the equatorial plane). These formulae could be used to directly extract the distances between the uranium absorber and oxygen ligand atoms in the axial and equatorial planes of uranyl ions based on the U L3‐edge XANES experimental data. In addition, the relative weights were estimated for each configuration derived from the water molecule and nitrate ligand based on the obtained average equatorial coordination bond lengths in a series of uranyl nitrate complexes with progressively varied nitrate concentrations. Results obtained from XANES analysis were identical to that from extended X‐ray absorption fine‐structure (EXAFS) analysis. XANES analysis is applicable to ubiquitous uranyl–ligand complexes, such as the uranyl–carbonate complex. Most importantly, the XANES research method could be extended to low‐concentration uranyl systems, as indicated by the results of the uranyl–amidoximate complex (~40 p.p.m. uranium). Quantitative XANES analysis, a reliable and straightforward method, provides a simplified approach applied to the structural chemistry of actinides.  相似文献

X‐ray absorption and scattering spectroscopies involving the 3d transition‐metal K‐ and L‐edges have a long history in studying inorganic and bioinorganic molecules. However, there have been very few studies using the M‐edges, which are below 100 eV. Synchrotron‐based X‐ray sources can have higher energy resolution at M‐edges. M‐edge X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering (RIXS) could therefore provide complementary information to K‐ and L‐edge spectroscopies. In this study, M2,3‐edge XAS on several Co, Ni and Cu complexes are measured and their spectral information, such as chemical shifts and covalency effects, are analyzed and discussed. In addition, M2,3‐edge RIXS on NiO, NiF2 and two other covalent complexes have been performed and different dd transition patterns have been observed. Although still preliminary, this work on 3d metal complexes demonstrates the potential to use M‐edge XAS and RIXS on more complicated 3d metal complexes in the future. The potential for using high‐sensitivity and high‐resolution superconducting tunnel junction X‐ray detectors below 100 eV is also illustrated and discussed.  相似文献

X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of Nd‐doped phosphate glasses have been studied before and after gamma irradiation. The intensity and the location of the white line peak of the L3‐edge XANES of Nd are found to be dependent on the ratio O/Nd in the glass matrix. Gamma irradiation changes the elemental concentration of atoms in the glass matrix, which affects the peak intensity of the white line due to changes in the covalence of the chemical bonds with Nd atoms in the glass (structural changes). Sharpening of the Nd 3d5/2 peak profile in XPS spectra indicates a deficiency of oxygen in the glasses after gamma irradiation, which is supported by energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy measurements. The ratio of non‐bridging oxygen to total oxygen in the glass after gamma radiation has been found to be correlated to the concentration of defects in the glass samples, which are responsible for its radiation resistance as well as for its coloration.  相似文献

P K‐edge X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy is a powerful method for analyzing the electronic structure of organic and inorganic phosphorus compounds. Like all XANES experiments, P K‐edge XANES requires well defined and readily accessible calibration standards for energy referencing so that spectra collected at different beamlines or under different conditions can be compared. This is especially true for ligand K‐edge X‐ray absorption spectroscopy, which has well established energy calibration standards for Cl (Cs2CuCl4) and S (Na2S2O3·5H2O), but not neighboring P. This paper presents a review of common P K‐edge XANES energy calibration standards and analysis of PPh4Br as a potential alternative. The P K‐edge XANES region of commercially available PPh4Br revealed a single, highly resolved pre‐edge feature with a maximum at 2146.96 eV. PPh4Br also showed no evidence of photodecomposition when repeatedly scanned over the course of several days. In contrast, we found that PPh3 rapidly decomposes under identical conditions. Density functional theory calculations performed on PPh3 and PPh4+ revealed large differences in the molecular orbital energies that were ascribed to differences in the phosphorus oxidation state (III versus V) and molecular charge (neutral versus +1). Time‐dependent density functional theory calculations corroborated the experimental data and allowed the spectral features to be assigned. The first pre‐edge feature in the P K‐edge XANES spectrum of PPh4Br was assigned to P 1s → P‐C π* transitions, whereas those at higher energy were P 1s → P‐C σ*. Overall, the analysis suggests that PPh4Br is an excellent alternative to other solid energy calibration standards commonly used in P K‐edge XANES experiments.  相似文献

The application of Raman spectroscopy for the investigation of phase transitions focused traditionally on the observation of soft modes in displacive systems. The present furthergoing study on displacive and order-disorder systems is based on the observation of systematic changes of the scattering profiles of hard modes during the phase transition. It reveals the temperature evolution of the order parameters, the role of order-parameter fluctuations and phonon density of states effects in model systems like improper ferroelastic Pb3(P1-x As x O4)2, lead diluted ferroelastic (Pb1-x Ba x )3(PO4)2, pure ferroelastic As2O5 and the relaxor ferroelectric Pb(Sc0.5Ta0.5)O3. Allied with supplementary experimental techniques hard-mode Raman spectroscopy (HMRS) is an ideal method for the investigation of order-parameter coupling effects and the characterization of structural phase transitions.  相似文献

To check the doping mechanism of trivalent ion doping in PbWO4 (PWO) and verify the formation of dipoles [2MPb3+-VPb], the researches on an investigation of tetravalent ion (Th4+, Zr4+) doped PWO was conducted by dielectric loss spectroscopy, thermoluminescence and optical absorption spectroscopy. The doping mechanism of tetravalent ion doping is similar to that of trivalent ion doping, while the dipole defects should be formed more easily due to the convenience for the two defects VPb and MPb4+ to get close to each other. However, in the case of Zr4+ doping, Zr was found to enter interstitial sites because of its small ionic radius, with the introduced charges compensated by VPb far away and hence does not exert an obvious influence on the performance of this material. Thus, no dielectric relaxation was found in the DS (dielectric spectra) experiment.  相似文献

Synchrotron‐based X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy is becoming an increasingly used tool for the element speciation in complex samples. For phosphorus (P) almost all XANES measurements have been carried out at the K‐edge. The small number of distinctive features at the P K‐edge makes in some cases the identification of different P forms difficult or impossible. As indicated by a few previous studies, the P L2,3‐edge spectra were richer in spectral features than those of the P K‐edge. However, experimentally consistent spectra of a wide range of reference compounds have not been published so far. In this study a library of spectral features is presented for a number of mineral P, organic P and P‐bearing minerals for fingerprinting identification. Furthermore, the effect of radiation damage is shown for three compounds and measures are proposed to reduce it. The spectra library provided lays a basis for the identification of individual P forms in samples of unknown composition for a variety of scientific areas.  相似文献

Au–Pt bimetallic nanoparticles have been synthesized through a one‐pot synthesis route from their respective chloride precursors using block copolymer as a stabilizer. Growth of the nanoparticles has been studied by simultaneous in situ measurement of X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and UV–Vis spectroscopy at the energy‐dispersive EXAFS beamline (BL‐08) at Indus‐2 SRS at RRCAT, Indore, India. In situ XAS spectra, comprising both X‐ray near‐edge structure (XANES) and extended X‐ray absorption fine‐structure (EXAFS) parts, have been measured simultaneously at the Au and Pt L3‐edges. While the XANES spectra of the precursors provide real‐time information on the reduction process, the EXAFS spectra reveal the structure of the clusters formed in the intermediate stages of growth. This insight into the formation process throws light on how the difference in the reduction potential of the two precursors could be used to obtain the core–shell‐type configuration of a bimetallic alloy in a one‐pot synthesis method. The core–shell‐type structure of the nanoparticles has also been confirmed by ex situ energy‐dispersive spectroscopy line‐scan and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements with in situ ion etching on fully formed nanoparticles.  相似文献

Tc L3‐edge XANES spectra have been collected on powder samples of SrTcO3 (octahedral Tc4+) and NH4TcO4 (tetrahedral Tc7+) immobilized in an epoxy resin. Features in the Tc L3‐edge XANES spectra are compared with the pre‐edge feature of the Tc K‐edge as well as other 4d transition metal L3‐edges. Evidence of crystal field splitting is obvious in the Tc L3‐edge, which is sensitive to the coordination number and oxidation state of the Tc cation. The Tc L3 absorption edge energy difference between SrTcO3 (Tc4+) and NH4TcO4 (Tc7+) shows that the energy shift at the Tc L3‐edge is an effective tool for studying changes in the oxidation states of technetium compounds. The Tc L3‐edge spectra are compared with those obtained from Mo and Ru oxide standards with various oxidation states and coordination environments. Most importantly, fitting the Tc L3‐edge to component peaks can provide direct evidence of crystal field splitting that cannot be obtained from the Tc K‐edge.  相似文献

Chemical shift in Ll and L? X‐ray emission lines of 48Cd and 50Sn elements in various chemical compounds was determined with high resolution wavelength dispersive X‐ray fluorescence (WDXRF) spectrometer. The positive and negative shifts were measured in 48Cd compounds viz, CdS, CdB4O7, CdCl2, Cd3(PO4)2, CdCO3, CdI2 and CdO with reference to pure Cd foil and 50Sn compounds viz, Sn(CrO4)2, SnO, SnO2, SnCl2, SnF2, SnF4 with reference to pure Sn foil. The measured energy shifts in Ll X‐ray emission lines range from ?0.47 to 1.82 eV and L? emission lines range from ?2.67 to 1 eV for both compounds. The effective charges (q, q / , q // , and q /// ) were calculated from four models (Pauling method, Suchet method, Levine method and Batsonav method) and found to be linear dependence with chemical shift. The measured chemical shifts were correlated with effective charge, number of ligands and electronegativity of the central metal atom in the given compounds.  相似文献

Direct speciation of soil phosphorus (P) by linear combination fitting (LCF) of P K‐edge XANES spectra requires a standard set of spectra representing all major P species supposed to be present in the investigated soil. Here, available spectra of free‐ and cation‐bound inositol hexakisphosphate (IHP), representing organic P, and of Fe, Al and Ca phosphate minerals are supplemented with spectra of adsorbed P binding forms. First, various soil constituents assumed to be potentially relevant for P sorption were compared with respect to their retention efficiency for orthophosphate and IHP at P levels typical for soils. Then, P K‐edge XANES spectra for orthophosphate and IHP retained by the most relevant constituents were acquired. The spectra were compared with each other as well as with spectra of Ca, Al or Fe orthophosphate and IHP precipitates. Orthophosphate and IHP were retained particularly efficiently by ferrihydrite, boehmite, Al‐saturated montmorillonite and Al‐saturated soil organic matter (SOM), but far less efficiently by hematite, Ca‐saturated montmorillonite and Ca‐saturated SOM. P retention by dolomite was negligible. Calcite retained a large portion of the applied IHP, but no orthophosphate. The respective P K‐edge XANES spectra of orthophosphate and IHP adsorbed to ferrihydrite, boehmite, Al‐saturated montmorillonite and Al‐saturated SOM differ from each other. They also are different from the spectra of amorphous FePO4, amorphous or crystalline AlPO4, Ca phosphates and free IHP. Inclusion of reference spectra of orthophosphate as well as IHP adsorbed to P‐retaining soil minerals in addition to spectra of free or cation‐bound IHP, AlPO4, FePO4 and Ca phosphate minerals in linear combination fitting exercises results in improved fit quality and a more realistic soil P speciation. A standard set of P K‐edge XANES spectra of the most relevant adsorbed P binding forms in soils is presented.  相似文献

The combination of energy dispersive X‐ray fluorescence (ED‐XRF) and synchrotron X‐ray absorption near‐edge structure (XANES) provides the detailed composition of fine‐paste ware (FPW) kendis, dated back to 13th–14th century maritime Southeast Asia. Sources of clay and production sites were classified according to Al2O3, SiO2, α‐Fe2O3 and γ‐Fe2O3 as well as trace elements. The similarities based on these components provided another evidence of a trade route between Kota Cina in North Sumatra of Indonesia and Kok Moh on Satingphra Peninsula, a well‐known production area in present‐day Thailand. In additions, the uniquely large contribution of α‐Fe2O3 in XANES spectra suggests that Nakhon Si Thammarat province of Thailand could also be one of FPW production areas in maritime Southeast Asia.
