A bisketal of myo‐inositol was used as a diol‐type monomer for synthesis of polyurethanes. The monomer was obtained by treatment of myo‐inositol with 1,1‐dimethoxycyclohexane in the presence of p‐toluenesulfonic acid as a catalyst. The ketalization resulted in the formation of a 5‐6‐5‐fused ring system, which endowed the diol‐type monomer with high rigidity. The diol readily reacted with diisocyanate to give the corresponding polyurethane, which exhibited excellent heat resistance due to the rigid 5‐6‐5 system in the main chain. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. myo‐Inositol, a naturally occurring cyclic hexaol, was converted to 2,4,6‐tri‐O‐allyl‐myo‐inositol and 1,2,3,4,5,6‐hexa‐O‐allyl‐myo‐inositol. Polyaddition of the former product, a tri(allyl ether) bearing three hydroxyl groups, with dithiols yielded the corresponding networked polymers. Their glass transition temperatures (Tgs) were higher than those of networked polymers formed by the polyaddition of 1,3,5‐tri‐O‐methyl‐2,4,6‐tri‐O‐allyl‐myo‐inositol. This implied the reinforcement of the networks by hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl groups. Polyaddition of the latter product, a hexa(allyl ether), with dithiols yielded the corresponding networked polymers with much higher Tgs than those of all of the aforementioned networked polymers. This implied that efficient use of the hexafunctional monomer leads to the formation of more densely crosslinked polymers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Oligo(spiroketal)s (OSKs) were synthesized from myo‐inositol, a naturally occurring cyclic compound bearing six hydroxyl groups. The successful synthesis of OSKs was achieved using silyl ethers 2 derived from 1,4‐di‐O‐alkylated myo‐inositol 1 as monomers, which underwent polycondensation with 1,4‐cyclohexanedione (CHD) at 0 °C in the presence of trimethylsilyl triflate as a catalyst. Because of the irreversible nature of the condensation reaction of silyl ethers with ketones, the resulting OSKs 7 had higher molecular weights than previously reported OSKs that were obtained by polycondensation of tetraols 1 with CHD, where backward hydrolysis of the ketal functions occurred. In addition, another series of OSKs, 8, were synthesized using silyl ethers 3 derived from 2,5‐di‐O‐alkylated myo‐inositol 6 , which are more symmetric monomers than silyl ethers 2 . Silyl ethers 3 underwent efficient polycondensation with CHD, whereas tetraol 6 did not, demonstrating that the derivation of such tetraols into the corresponding silyl ethers is a powerful strategy to access OSKs. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Naturally occurring myo‐inositol was developed into a highly rigid diol by converting its 3,4‐ and 1,6‐vicinal diols in trans configuration into the corresponding butane‐2,3‐diacetals. The resulting diol bearing 6‐6‐6 fused ring system, in which conformational change is strictly suppressed, was combined with diisocyanates to perform polyadditions. The resulting polyurethanes were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry, and it was found that their glass transition temperatures were much higher than those of the previously reported myo‐inositol‐derived polyurethanes, which were synthesized from a myo‐inositol‐derived diol bearing 5‐6‐5 fused ring system. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two stereoisomeric trimethacrylates, T1 and T2 , which share a common adamantane‐like rigid core, were synthesized from naturally occurring myo‐inositol, and their radical polymerization behaviors were investigated. For the synthesis of T1 , myo‐inositol was converted to triol 1 , bearing one equatorial hydroxyl group and two axial hydroxyl groups, by orthoesterification, which was used as a precursor. For the synthesis of T2 , 1 was converted to triol 2 , bearing three axial hydroxyl groups, which was used as a precursor. Investigations on the radical polymerization of T1 and T2 , which potentially accompanies the cyclopolymerization of the axially oriented methacrylate moieties, revealed significant differences between the two. (1) The polymerization of T1 affords networked and thus insoluble polymers PT1 , while that of T2 affords less crosslinked and thus soluble polymers PT2 . (2) The amount of residual methacrylate moieties was larger in PT2 than in PT1 . (3) PT2 had higher thermal stability than PT1 , though PT2 contained a larger amount of unreacted methacrylate moieties. These tendencies were successfully correlated with the difference in cyclopolymerization efficiency between the polymerizations of the two monomers. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Linear polyurethanes based on sugar monomers having D ‐gluco, galacto, and D ‐manno configurations and their secondary hydroxyl groups protected as bicyclic acetals, have been prepared by polyaddition reaction of these diol monomers to hexamethylene diisocyanate ( HMDI ) and 4,4′‐methylene‐bis(phenyl isocyanate) ( MDI ). The new polyurethanes seem to be amorphous materials, except that obtained from 2,3:4,5‐di‐O‐methylene‐galactitol and HMDI. Weight‐average molecular weights, determined by GPC, were in the range 16,000–115,200. TGA analyses indicated that the thermal stability of these bicyclic polyurethanes is comparable to those based on the isosorbide; both the onset and the maximum rate decomposition temperatures increased significantly with respect to the polyurethanes based on acyclic sugar monomers. The presence of the acetalized alditol units in the polyurethanes also increased the Tgs as compared with their acyclic analogs. Deacetalization of the polyurethanes containing di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐mannitol units yielded the polyhydroxylated polymers in good yields, without apparent degradation of the polymer chain. These hydroxylated polymers showed an enhanced hydrophilicity and degradability and lower Tgs and thermal stability than their parent acetalized polyurethanes. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bicyclobis(γ‐butyrolactone) (BBL) bearing methyl group 1a reacted with benzyl alcohol (BnOH) in the presence of p‐toluenesulfonic acid (p‐TsOH) through the double ring‐opening of the bislactone structure to afford the corresponding adduct 2a bearing carboxyl group. The resulting carboxyl group underwent condensation with BnOH to afford the corresponding diester 3a . The second step was quite slow at ambient temperature; however, it was efficiently accelerated by elevating temperature to 120 °C or performing under reduced pressure at 80 °C to afford 3a in an excellent yield. Based on these results, the reaction of 1a with xylene‐α,α‐diol (XyD) was carried out in chlorobenzene at 120 °C to obtain the corresponding polyester bearing ketone group in the side chain. The condensation reaction in the second step was effectively promoted by simultaneous removal of water under reduced pressure. BBLs 1b and 1c bearing reactive groups, isopropenyl and chloromethyl, respectively, were also employed as monomers efficiently. Their reactions with XyD gave the corresponding reactive polyesters bearing methacryloyl and chloroacetyl moieties, respectively. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two orthoester derivatives 1 and 2 that are easily accessible from naturally occurring myo‐inositol were exploited as new triol‐ and diol‐type monomers bearing a rigid adamantane‐like structure to polyaddition with diisocyanates that gave the corresponding networked and linear polyurethanes. DSC analysis of the networked polyurethanes revealed their high glass transition temperatures ranging from 155 to 248 °C, suggesting the contribution of the rigidity of the adamantane‐like structure introduced at the nodes of the networked polyurethanes 6. Besides, the polyaddition of 2 with diisocyanates gave the corresponding linear polyurethanes 4, of which glass transition temperatures were high, ranging from 105 to 177 °C, presumably by virtue of the rigidity of the adamantane‐like structure introduced into the main chains. Tgs of the networked polyurethanes 6 were higher than those of the linear polyurethanes 4. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 3498–3505  相似文献

The quasi‐living cationic copolymerization of 3,3‐bis(chloromethyl)oxetane (BCMO) and ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), using boron trifluoride etherate as catalyst and 1,4‐butanediol as coinitiator, was investigated in methylene chloride at 0°C. The resulting hydroxyl‐ended copolymers exhibit a narrow molecular weight polydispersity and a functionality of about 2. The reactivity ratios of BCMO (0.26) and ε‐CL (0.47), and the Tg of the copolymers, indicate their statistical character. The synthesis of poly(3,3‐bis(azidomethyl)oxetane‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) from poly(BCMO‐co‐ε‐CL) via the substitution of the chlorine atoms by azide groups, using sodium azide in DMSO at 110°C, occurs without any degradation, but the copolymers decompose at about 240°C. All polymers were characterized by vapor pressure osmometry or steric exclusion chromatography, 1H‐NMR and FTIR spectroscopies, and DSC. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The phase behavior of ternary poly‐(2‐vinylpyridine) (P2VPy)/poly‐(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVP)/bis‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)methane (BHPM) blends was studied. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic examinations demonstrated that BHPM interacts with P2VPy and PVP through hydrogen‐bonding interactions. The addition of a sufficiently large amount of BHPM transformed an opaque blend with two glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) to a transparent single‐Tg blend. Scanning electron microscopic studies showed that the transparent single‐Tg blend is micro‐phase‐separated at a scale of about 30 nm. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Two new bis(ether acyl chloride)s, 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenylethane and 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethane, were prepared from readily available reagents. Aromatic polybenzoxazoles with both ether and phenylethylidene or 1‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethylidene linkages between phenylene units were obtained by a conventional two‐step procedure including the low‐temperature solution polycondensation of the bis(ether acyl chloride)s with three bis(o‐aminophenol)s, yielding poly(o‐hydroxyamide) precursors, and subsequent thermal cyclodehydration. The intermediate poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s exhibited inherent viscosities of 0.39–0.98 dL/g. All of the poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s were amorphous and soluble in polar organic solvents such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and most of them could afford flexible and tough films via solvent casting. The poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) of 129–194 °C and could be thermally converted into corresponding polybenzoxazoles in the solid state at temperatures higher than 300 °C. All the polybenzoxazoles were amorphous and showed an enhanced Tg but a dramatically decreased solubility with to respect to their poly(o‐hydroxyamide) precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 216–236 °C through differential scanning calorimetry and were stable up to 500 °C in nitrogen or air, with 10% weight‐loss temperatures being recorded between 538 and 562 °C in nitrogen or air. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A self‐polymerizable quinoxaline monomer (A‐B) has been synthesized and polymerized via aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions. An isomeric mixture of self‐polymerizable quinoxaline monomers—2‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐3‐phenyl‐6‐fluoroquinoxaline and 3‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2‐phenyl‐6‐fluoroquinoxaline—was polymerized in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone (NMP) to afford high molecular weight polyphenylquinoxaline (PPQ) with intrinsic viscosities up to 1.91 dL/g and a glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of 251 °C. A series of comonomers was polymerized with A‐B to form PPQ/polysulfone (PS), PPQ/polyetherether ketone (PEEK), and PPQ/polyethersulfone (PES) copolymers. The copolymers readily obtained high intrinsic viscosities when fluorine was displaced in NMP under reflux. However, single‐electron transfer (SET) side reactions, which limit molecular weight, played a more dominant role when chlorine was displaced instead of fluorine. SET side reactions were minimized in the synthesis of PPQ/PS copolymers through mild polymerization conditions in NMP for longer polymerization times. Thus, the Tg's of PES (Tg = 220 °C), PEEK (Tg = 145 °C), and PS (Tg = 195 °C) were raised through the incorporation of quinoxaline units into the polymer. Copolymers with high intrinsic viscosities resulted in all cases, except in the case of PPQ/PEEK copolymers when 4,4′‐dichlorobenzophenone was the comonomer. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of novel mesogen‐jacketed liquid‐crystal polymers, poly[2,5‐bis(4′‐alkoxyphenyl)‐styrene] (P‐n, n = 1–11), were prepared via free‐radical polymerization of newly synthesized monomers, 2,5‐bis(4′‐alkoxyphenyl)styrene (M‐n, n = 1–11). The influence of the alkoxy tail length on the liquid‐crystalline behaviors of the monomers and the polymers was investigated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry, polarized optical microscopy (POM), and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). The monomers with n = 1–4, 9, and 11 were monotropic nematic liquid crystals. All other monomers exhibited enantiotropic nematic properties. Their melting points (Tm's) decreased first as n increased to 6, after which Tm increased slightly at longer spacer lengths. The isotropic–nematic transition temperatures decreased regularly with increasing n values in an odd–even way. The glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) of the polymers first decreased as the tail lengths increased and then leveled off when n ≥ 7. All polymers were thermally stable and entered the mesophase at a temperature above Tg. Upon further heating, no mesophase‐to‐isotropic melt transition was observed before the polymers decomposed. WAXD studies indicated that an irreversible order–order transition for the polymers with short tails (n ≤ 5) and a reversible order–order transition for those with elongated tails (n ≥ 6) occurred at a temperature much higher than Tg. However, such a transition could not be identified by POM and could be detected by DSC only on heating scans for the polymers with long tails (n ≥ 7). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of polyallene‐based well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymers, poly(6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadiene‐4‐ol)‐g‐poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PMHDO‐g‐PDEAEMA), was synthesized through the grafting‐from technique. First, double‐bond‐containing PMHDO backbone bearing pendant hydroxyls was prepared via [(η3‐allyl)NiOCOCF3]2‐initiated living coordination polymerization of 6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadiene‐4‐ol (MHDO). The pendant hydroxyls in the homopolymer were then reacted with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride to give PMHDO‐Cl macroinitiator. Finally, hydrophilic PDEAEMA side chains were formed by single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) of 2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DEAEMA) in THF/H2O initiated by the macroinitiator using CuCl/Me6TREN as catalytic system to afford PMHDO‐g‐PDEAEMA graft copolymers. The narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.35) and kinetics experiment showed the controllability of SET‐LRP graft copolymerization of DEAEMA. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) of PMHDO‐g‐PDEAEMA amphiphilic graft copolymer in aqueous media was determined by fluorescence probe technique and the relationships between cmc and pH or salinity were also investigated. Micellar morphologies were preliminarily explored using transmission electron microscopy. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

A series of methacrylates bearing bicyclobis(γ‐butyrolactone) (BBL) moiety were synthesized and radically polymerized to afford the corresponding poly(methacrylate)s bearing BBL moiety in the side chain, with expecting that the high polarity and rigidity of BBL would be inherited by the polymers. The resulting polymers were soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide and N,N‐dimethylformamide because of the high polarity of the BBL moiety. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the polymers depended on the length of methylene linker that tethered the methacrylate and BBL moieties, making the use of shorter linkers lead to higher Tgs. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A rigid diamine was synthesized from myo‐inositol, a naturally occurring cyclic hexaol, and used as a monomer to synthesize polyamides. myo‐Inositol was treated with 1,1‐dimethoxycyclohexane to yield a bisketal bearing two hydroxyl groups, and from this bisketal, the target diamine was synthesized in three steps: (1) derivation of the diol into the corresponding bistriflate, (2) nucleophilic substitution of the bistriflate with sodium azide yielding a diazide, and (3) reduction of the diazide to the target diamine. The target diamine readily underwent polycondensation with dicarboxylic acid chloride in solution. The resulting polyamides, whose main chain inherited the rigid 5‐6‐5 system from the diamine monomers, have high glass transition temperatures. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Two series of new wholly aromatic thermotropic copolyesters containing the 2‐(α‐phenylisopropyl)hydroquinone (PIHQ) moiety have been synthesized and their basic properties such as glass transition temperature (Tg), melting temperature (Tm), thermal stability, crystallinity, and liquid crystallinity were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG), and wide‐angle X‐ray diffractometry (WAXD) and on a polarizing microscope. The first series was prepared from acetylated PIHQ, terephthalic acid (TPA), and 2,6‐naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (NDA), and the second series from acetylated PIHQ, TPA, and 1,1′‐biphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid (BDA). The Tg values (152–168°C) of the two series are not much different, although the values for the first series appear slightly higher. The Tm values (287–378°C) and the degree of crystallinity of the first series are appreciably greater than those of the second series. Such differences can be explained by the geometric structure of NDA and BDA moieties. All of the present polyesters are thermotropic and nematic. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Three new bis(ether‐acyl chloride) monomers, 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]cyclohexane ( 1a ), 5,5‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐4,7‐methanohexahydroindan ( 1b ), and 9,9‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]fluorene ( 1c ), were synthesized from readily available compounds. Aromatic polybenzoxazoles bearing ether and cardo groups were obtained by the low‐temperature solution polycondensation of the bis(ether‐acyl chloride)s with three bis(aminophenol)s and the subsequent thermal cyclodehydration of the resultant poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s. The intermediate poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s exhibited inherent viscosities in the range of 0.35–0.71 dL/g. All of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s were amorphous and soluble in many organic polar solvents, and most of them could afford flexible and tough films by solvent casting. The poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) in the range of 141–169 °C and could be thermally converted into the corresponding polybenzoxazoles approximately in the region of 240–350 °C, as indicated by the DSC thermograms. Flexible and tough films of polybenzoxazoles could be obtained by thermal cyclodehydration of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide) films. All the polybenzoxazoles were amorphous and showed an enhanced Tg but a dramatically decreased solubility as compared with their poly(o‐hydroxy amide) precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 215–272 °C by DSC and showed insignificant weight loss before 500 °C in nitrogen or air. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel linear carbohydrate‐derived [m,n]‐polyurethanes are successfully prepared using D ‐mannitol as renewable and low cost starting material. The key comonomer, 1,6‐di‐O‐phenylcarbonyl‐2,3,4,5‐tetra‐O‐methyl‐D ‐mannitol is polymerized with a diamine synthesized from D ‐mannitol or with alkylenediamines. These polymerization reactions afford, respectively, a [6,6]‐polyurethane entirely based on a carbohydrate derivative or [m,n]‐polyurethanes constituted by a poly‐O‐methyl substituted unit alternating with a polymethylene chain. All these polymers are stereoregular, as result of the C2 axis of symmetry of mannitol. The optically active polyurethanes are characterized by standard methods (FTIR, RMN, GPC, TGA, and DSC). Thus, GPC analysis reveals weight‐average molecular weights between 18,000 and 25,000 Da. Thermal studies (DSC) indicate that the polymers obtained are amorphous materials with Tg values dependent on the structure and chain length of the diamine constituent. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The curing process of hexamethylene diisocyanate‐based polyurethane has been monitored by applying FTIR and DSC methods. A general relationship between glass‐transition temperature (Tg) and conversion of curing process has been obtained. This suggests that the reaction path and the relative reaction rates are independent of the curing temperature. The reaction kinetics of the system is analyzed using the Tg data converted to the conversion of the curing process. A set of experimental data and one theoretical model of Tg versus chemical conversion are presented to prove the assumption where a direct one‐to‐one relationship between the Tg (as measured) and the chemical conversion is obtained. Apparent activation energies (Ea) obtained by applying three different methods suggest good agreement. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 38: 2213–2220, 2000  相似文献
