Quadratic nonlinear photonic crystals are materials in which the second order susceptibility χ(2) is spatially modulated while the linear susceptibility remains constant. These structures are significantly different than the more common photonic crystals, in which the linear susceptibility is modulated. Nonlinear processes in nonlinear photonic crystals are governed by the phase matching requirements, which are determined by the reciprocal lattice of these crystals. Therefore, the modulation of the nonlinear susceptibility enables to engineer the spatial and spectral response in various three‐wave mixing processes. It enables to support the efficient generation of new optical frequencies at multiple directions. We analyze three wave mixing processes in nonlinear photonic crystals in which the modulation is either periodic, quasi‐periodic, radially symmetric or even random. We discuss both one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional modulations. In addition to harmonic generations, we outline several new possibilities for all‐optical control of the spatial and polarization properties of optical beams in specially designed nonlinear photonic crystals.  相似文献

本文利用非线性偏振锁模激光器产生的重复频率50 MHz, 脉宽为1.8 ps的脉冲分别抽运外径均匀和色散渐减两种高非线性光子晶体光纤, 在三阶非线性效应 (自相位调制、交叉相位调制、四波混频和受激拉曼散效应等) 和色散共同作用下得到扩展至蓝光部分的超连续谱. 模拟了光谱在色散渐减光纤和均匀光纤中的展宽过程, 通过对比均匀光纤发现色散渐减光纤在调控色散, 加强拉曼孤子和色散波的群速度匹配条件, 产生超带宽光谱方面具有很大优势. 实验利用20 m长的色散渐减光纤, 得到了406.1至671.8 nm的可见光波段增强的较为平坦的超连续谱. 关键词: 超连续谱 色散渐减光子晶体光纤 群速度匹配 非线性效应  相似文献

We describe in detail the manufacturing procedures for selectively closing holes in photonics crystal fibers and their infiltration with different liquids. We apply our method to create a large mode area liquid-filled photonic crystal fiber which consists of 19 liquid strands. By changing the mixing ratio between toluene and ethanol and by varying the temperature, we show continuous tuning from isolated to coupled behavior of the spatial mode profile. This demonstrates the versatility of selectively closed liquid-filled photonic crystal fibers for future photonic devices. Filling with nonlinear liquids, gases, metals, liquid crystals, low melting compound glasses, or quantum dots is possible, and spatial as well as temporal engineering of linear and nonlinear optical properties will become feasible, which should allow the observation of spatiotemporal solitons.  相似文献

We demonstrate a photonic chip-based all-optical exclusive-OR (XOR) gate for phase-encoded optical signals via four-wave mixing in a highly nonlinear, dispersion-engineered chalcogenide (As2S3) planar waveguide. We achieve error-free, XOR operation for 40?Gbit/s differential phase shift keying (DPSK) optical signals with no power penalty. The effectiveness and broad bandwidth operation of our approach is highlighted by implementing an XOR gate for 160?Gbit/s DPSK signals.  相似文献

We experimentally study the combined nonlinear effects,including four-wave mixing,stimulated Raman scattering,soliton dynamics,and cross-phase modulation by coupling femtosecond pulses around 850 nm into the normal dispersion region near the zero-dispersion wavelength in the fundamental mode of a homemade silica photonic crystal fiber. The nonlinear optical dynamics at different stages are demonstrated,and the discrete ultraviolet(UV) to visible wavelengths widely separated from the pump wave are generated by the interaction of several nonlinear effects involved. The UV to visible wavelengths can be used as short pulse sources for multiphoton ionization,fluorescence spectroscopy,and biochemical imaging.  相似文献

基于光子晶体光纤中脉冲演化遵循的非线性薛定谔方程, 用数值模拟的方法分别研究了飞秒脉冲在单零色散点和双零色散点光子晶体光纤中超连续谱的产生和色散波的孤子俘获现象. 结果表明: 与单零色散点光子晶体光纤相比, 双零色散点光子晶体光纤产生的超连续谱既包含了蓝移色散波, 又包含了红移色散波, 且当满足群速度匹配时, 孤子通过四波混频不仅能俘获蓝移色散波, 而且能俘获红移色散波, 从而产生新的俘获波频谱成分. 为了清楚地观察脉冲传输的时频特性, 通过模拟交叉相关频率分辨光学开关技术, 得到了孤子俘获色散波的演化过程. 关键词: 超连续谱 色散波 孤子俘获 光子晶体光纤  相似文献

We theoretically investigate nonlinear resonance-enhanced excitation of surface plasmon polaritons in a metal coated by a one-dimensional photonic crystal. Tunneling modes above the air-light line can be directly excited in this structure. Then, with suitable parameters, photon energy and momentum conservation between the tunneling mode and the surface plasmon polaritons can be realized by means of nonlinear four-wave mixing. Compared with the nonlinear excitation of surface plasmon polaritons in a bulk metal [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 266802 (2009)], the conversion efficiency in our structure is noticeably enhanced.  相似文献

Nonlinear optical frequency mixing,which describes new frequencies generation by exciting nonlinear materials with intense light field,has drawn vast interests in the field of photonic devices,material characterization,and optical imaging.Investigating and manipulating the nonlinear optical response of target materials lead us to reveal hidden physics and develop applications in optical devices.Here,we report the realization of facile manipulation of nonlinear optical responses in the example system of MoS2 monolayer by van der Waals interfacial engineering.We found that,the interfacing of monolayer graphene will weaken the exciton oscillator strength in MoS2 monolayer and correspondingly suppress the second harmonic generation(SHG)intensity to 30%under band-gap resonance excitation.While with off-resonance excitation,the SHG intensity would enhance up to 130%,which is conjectured to be induced by the interlayer excitation between MoS2 and graphene.Our investigation provides an effective method for controlling nonlinear optical properties of two-dimensional materials and therefore facilitates their future applications in optoelectronic and photonic devices.  相似文献

与传统光纤不同,光子晶体光纤可以具有多个零色散波长,在四波混频光谱中,具有更丰富的相位匹配特性。目前很多文献报道了光子晶体光纤非线性光学特性的实验结果,但对其产生机理及光谱的变化规律缺乏详细的理论分析。为此对光纤中四波混频原理进行了分析,给出了高增益的相位匹配条件。利用多极法计算了光子晶体光纤的非线性系数及色散特性。对具有多个零色散波长光子晶体光纤的相位失配特性进行了分析,得到了相位匹配波长随泵浦波长及泵浦功率的变化规律。给出了相位匹配曲线,分析了不同色散曲线的相位匹配波长特点,两个零色散波长光子晶体光纤,在四波混频光谱中将激发出四个新的波长。实验得到了两个零色散波长光子晶体光纤的四波混频光谱,与理论分析一致,验证了相位匹配理论的可靠性。多个零色散波长光纤,能产生丰富的相位匹配曲线,会出现更多的四波混频波长,可以有效的控制光孤子及超短脉冲的四波混频及共振散射产生的光谱特性。为光子晶体光纤中基于四波混频的波长变换及超连续谱的研究提供了理论指导。  相似文献

A tunable and switchable multi-wavelength Erbium-doped photonic crystal fiber ring laser incorporating a length of single-mode highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Stable dual-wavelength and triple-wavelength operations at room temperature are achieved by employing the highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber to induce four-wave mixing effect and a polarization controller to vary the polarization states of propagation lights in the laser cavity. The laser cavity is free from any wavelength selection components. The laser obtains maximal 30 dB signal-to-noise ratio and the peak power fluctuations of lasing lines are less than 1.39 dB.  相似文献

We show that two Bloch modes launched into a nonlinear photonic lattice evolve into a comb or a supercontinuum of spatial frequencies, exhibiting a sensitive dependence on the difference between the quasi-momenta of the two initially excited modes. This phenomenon results from four-wave mixing combined with exchanges of momentum between the optical field and the lattice.  相似文献

We demonstrate all-optical demultiplexing of a high-bandwidth, time-division multiplexed 160 Gbit/s signal to 10 Gbit/s channels, exploiting slow light enhanced four-wave mixing in a dispersion engineered, 96 μm long planar photonic crystal waveguide. We report error-free (bit error rate<10??) operation of all 16 demultiplexed channels, with a power penalty of 2.2-2.4 dB, highlighting the potential of these structures as a platform for ultracompact all-optical nonlinear processes.  相似文献

A multiwavelength laser source is demonstrated with a high power erbium-doped fiber amplifier as the gain medium. A highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is inserted in the ring cavity to provide nonlinear gain by four-wave mixing. A Sagnac loop is incorporated in the ring cavity serving as a comb-like multichannel filter. The comparison between fiber ring laser without PCF and with PCF shows that the highly nonlinear PCF can generate a larger number of excited wavelengths and help stabilize the output power.  相似文献

We demonstrate a 10 Gbit/s nonreturn-to-zero wavelength converter based on four-wave mixing in a 20 m highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber. The tunable wavelength conversion bandwidth (3 dB) is about 100 nm. The conversion efficiency is -16 dB when the pump power is 22.5 dBm. Phase modulation was not used to suppress the stimulated Brillouin scattering; thus the linewidth of the converted wavelength remained very narrow. The eye diagrams show that there is no additional noise during wavelength conversion. The measured power penalty at a 10(-9) bit-error-rate level is about 0.7 dB.  相似文献

Recently, in papers [1, 2] were described the effect of long-time emission of photonic crystal (synthetic opals) under the action of nanosecond laser pulse. The duration of the luminescence is of the order of seconds. Despite on the other phenomena, which were considered in these papers, below we focus our attention on possible explanation of long time emission from nonlinear photonic crystal. The basis of our consideration is papers [3, 4], those deal with soliton formation in several layers of 1D nonlinear photonic crystal. Because of this, the light wave can exist in photonic crystal a long time (in ideal case—infinite time interval). Taking into account a relation between soliton duration and its maximum intensity, the leaving of laser energy from the layer of photonic crystal takes place due not full reflection from boundaries of layer. The time of light emission for this case depends on nonlinear susceptibility of photonic crystal and the intensity of laser pulse. Hence, soliton formation inside the nonlinear elements of photonic crystal can be one of the reasons of long time emission. We got in computer simulation a long time emission of 1D (layered) and 2D (circular or rectangular elements) nonlinear photonic crystal under the action of laser pulse with femtosecond duration under the conditions of soliton formation in some elements of photonic crystal. Input intensity of laser pulse, at which a soliton appears in nonlinear photonic crystal, can be ten times less due to effects of enhancement of optical intensity in periodic structure [4, 5].  相似文献

We introduce a new physical process that can perform a complete time-reversal operation on any electromagnetic pulse. The process uses only small refractive index modulations of linear optical elements. No nonlinear multiphoton effects such as four-wave mixing are required. The introduced process can be implemented on chip with standard semiconductor materials. Furthermore, the same process can be used to compress or expand the spectrum of electromagnetic waves while completely preserving the coherent information. We exhibit the time-reversal process by first-principles simulations of microcavity complexes in photonic crystals.  相似文献

在远离光子晶体光纤零色散波长的正常色散区入射飞秒脉冲,实验产生了一对由四波混频引起的信号波带和闲频波带,及一对由脉冲内拉曼散射和非孤子辐射引起的孤子和色散波带,并观察到功率饱和现象.利用有限元法理论模拟了光纤的色散和非线性特性,用四波混频的相位匹配条件模拟了光纤在满足相位匹配条件下所产生的信号波带和闲频波带出现的可能位置,并与实验结果符合得很好.结果表明:即使在光子晶体光纤的正常色散区抽运激光脉冲亦可以产生四波混频和孤子效应;研究发现四波混频的产生是由四阶色散参量引起的;并进一步从理论上解释了孤子及色散波的产生原因.  相似文献

We demonstrate polarization-insensitive wavelength multicasting of differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signal based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in a highly nonlinear, birefringent photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The 10-Gbit/s RZ-DPSK input signal is copied to 8 wavelength channels through FWM with three optical pumps. The pump wavelengths are unequally spaced to avoid undesirable crosstalk from pump-to-pump beatings. The dependence of conversion efficiency on input signal polarization is suppressed by exploiting the PCF birefringence together with control of the pump polarizations. All pump polarizations are aligned at 45 degrees to the principal axes of the PCF. Open eyes and error-free results are obtained in all the 8 multicast channels for polarization-scrambled RZ-DPSK input signal.  相似文献
