In this paper the characteristic equation for the magnetoplasmonic cylindrical waveguide will be formulated and solved. The effect of cylinder radius and the static magnetic field on the propagation constant are investigated. It is seen that, despite the isotropic cylindrical wave guide, there is not pure TE and TM mode for the symmetric modes and there are two propagation mode. Numerical experiments shows that, there is not unique solution for the propagation constants, and propagation constants may depends on cylinder radius and the bias field. Reversing the DC field direction, does not show any change propagation constant and therefore does not exist Faraday rotation for this structure.  相似文献

A full-vectorial (FV) analysis of optical dielectric waveguide bends by using finite difference (FD) method in terms of magnetic field components is developed in a local cylindrical coordinate system. The perfectly matched layer absorbing boundary conditions via the complex coordinate stretching technique are incorporated into the FV wave equations for effectively demonstrating the leaky nature of waveguide bends, and a six-point FD scheme is constructed to approximate the cross-coupling terms for improving the convergent behavior. The leaky modes of a typical rib waveguide bend are calculated and the complex propagation constants and the field patterns for TE- and TM-like modes are obtained. Solutions are good agreement with those from the film mode matching method, which shows the validity and utility of the established method.  相似文献

A chiroferrite is made from chiral objects immersed in a magnetically biased ferrite. A waveguide including a chiroferrite is anticipated to possess some novel features due to the presence of chirality in combination with anisotropy. In this paper, the propagation characteristics of a circular metal waveguide filled with a chiroferrite medium are investigated by an analytical procedure. The equations of relations between the transverse components and the longitudinal ones of electromagnetic fields in general chiroferrite waveguides are derived in a cylindrical coordinate system. The coupled wave equations for the longitudinal electric and magnetic fields are decoupled into two Helmholtz equations which are then solved analytically. The characteristic equation is formulated for the circular chiroferrite waveguide. Propagation constants varying with the structural and material parameters have been calculated for several lower chiral modes. A number of interesting features have been revealed by the numerical results.  相似文献

A kind of nested eccentric waveguide constructed with two cylindrical nanowires coated with graphene was designed. The mode characteristics of this waveguide were studied using the multipole method. It was found that the three lowest modes (mode 0, mode 1 and mode 2) can be combined by the zero-order mode or/and the first-order modes of two single nanowires. Mode 0 has a higher figure of merit and the best performance among these modes within the parameter range of interest. The mode characteristics can be adjusted by changing the parameters of the waveguide. For example, the propagation length will be increased when the operating wavelength, the minimum spacing between the inner and outer cylinders, the inner cylinder radius and the Fermi energy are increased. However, when the outer cylinder radius, the dielectric constants of region I, or the dielectric constants of region III are increased, the opposite effect can be seen. These results are consistent with the results obtained using the finite element method (FEM). The waveguide structure designed in this paper is easy to fabricate and can be applied to the field of micro/nano sensing.  相似文献

针对THz波段介质涂敷空芯金属圆波导传输特性的精确分析问题,基于波导中场方程及边界条件建立关于传播常数的特征方程,并且采用改进的Muller法求解特征方程得到涂敷圆波导主模HE11模的传播常数。计算中对THz波段的非理想导体电导率采用经典弛豫效应模型。仿真结果表明:内径为1.8 mm的银波导,当聚苯乙烯涂敷层厚度为17 m时,HE11模在1.5~3.0 THz的衰减常数在1 dB/m以下,且具有较好的色散特性;内径为2.2 mm的银波导,在2.5 THz时其衰减常数随涂敷层厚度的增加先增大后减小,且存在最佳介质涂敷层厚度,可实现THz波低损耗传输。  相似文献

 根据满足边界条件的一系列电磁场方程,采用场匹配法,详细推导了外开槽同轴波导的特征方程。在外开槽同轴波导光滑内同轴半径等于零的情形下,即变成外开槽圆波导,得到其特征方程。数值模拟了外开槽同轴波导及外开槽圆波导中TE01模式的传播特性,得到了不同尺寸外开槽同轴波导开槽间隙半张角和槽深与特征根的变化关系。结果表明:开槽越深,间隙半张角越小,特征根值越小。  相似文献

Particular features of waveguide propagation of modes in a planar structure that consists of alternating layers of a dielectric and graphene are investigated. Within the effective-medium approximation, dispersion relations are obtained for symmetric and antisymmetric waveguide modes. Based on their numerical analysis, the frequency dependences of the propagation and decay constants, of the group and phase velocities, and of the energy flux carried by waveguide modes are constructed. The influence of the fraction of graphene in the structure on the behavior of waveguide modes is analyzed.  相似文献

In this paper, THz Sommerfeld wave propagation on dielectrically coated cylindrical metal wire and conical metal wire is presented. The propagation characteristics of single wire are largely related to the characteristics of material being used, which may change significantly with the temperature variation. Then, the surface wave propagation along the THz wire waveguide is investigated by the numerical calculation from 0.1 to 1 THz at different temperature. The influences of different conductivity and different temperature on the propagation characteristics of the dielectrically coated cylindrical metal wire and conical metal wire are discussed, including electric field distribution, propagation loss and energy coupling characteristic. The analysis results release a fundamental characteristic for describing the THz surface wave propagation on single wire at different temperature, and moreover, the analysis results also suggest that the single wire is a promising THz waveguide and very useful for the space sensing at cryogenic temperature in future.  相似文献

A new algorithm for waveguide and leaky modes spectrum calculation in multilayer planar waveguides is proposed. The method is of high computational efficiency due to the preliminary search for propagation constants approximation. Numerical efficiency of this algorithm is demonstrated for several waveguide structures. Waveguide and leaky modes propagation constants calculated for these structures using proposed method are in good agreement with previously published results.  相似文献

In this study, a competent numerical strategy to compute the dispersion of optical waveguides is presented and propagation of electromagnetic waves in a coaxial optical waveguide with DB boundary conditions is instigated. For this intend, cylindrical coordinates are here being used to derive the DB boundary conditions and to obtain field components for the modes. The propagation constant for the waveguide to be studied is determined by solving the Bessel and the modified Bessel functions. The cutoff frequencies for various lower order modes have been calculated and their dispersion characteristics are plotted correspondingly. The behavior of the coaxial optical waveguide under DB boundary conditions is shown to be significantly different from that of coaxial optical waveguide and conventional optical waveguide under traditional or tangential boundary conditions. Finally, the effect of waveguide dimensions on the mode cutoff frequencies and fabrication issues are also addressed.  相似文献

A bianisotropic waveguide can be defined as a cylindrical waveguide filled with bianisotropic materials, and all the conventional waveguides are special cases of the bianisotropic waveguide. In this paper, guided wave propagation in bianisotropic waveguide is analyzed by the theory of linear operators, and two types of adjoint waveguides and inner products are introduced respectively. Based on the concept of adjoint waveguides, the functional expressions of the field equations can be obtained, and from which the eigenvalue problem of the bianisotropic waveguide can be solved. Also, bi-orthogonality relations of guided modes are derived. These biorthogonality relations reported here can be used to expand electromagnetic fields in terms of a complete set of modes in straight bianisotropic waveguide. As an example of application, mode matching formulae for a discontinuity problem are given.  相似文献

This paper investigates the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a dielectric anisotropic medium containing conducting planes. A plane and rectangular waveguide is considered for certain particular cases of the orientation of the principal axis of the anisotropic medium relative to the waveguide coordinates. 设计了一种由双平行圆柱形纳米棒构成的金属-介质-金属(MDM)型等离子体波导,采用时域有限差分方法(FDTD)分析了波导结构的传输特性。当光波垂直主轴入射时,电磁场被很好地局限在两纳米棒所形成的中间区域以及介质层中,从而在该波导中能够有效地耦合电磁场能量。在工作波长为1 550 nm的情况下,随着内层金属芯半径的增大,有效折射率减小,传播距离增大;而中间介质层厚度增大时,有效折射率增大,传播距离减小。当外层金属壳厚为20 nm时,电场可以很好地被限制在纳米棒的介质层内。上述结果表明:通过调整波导结构的几何参数可以显著提高金属纳米棒的场限制,降低波导本身的损耗, 使波导的有效折射率和传播长度达到最优化。这种等离子体波导能够实现亚波长的光限制,可以应用于光子器件集成和传感器领域。  相似文献

Spectral problems of determination of the mode propagation constants and electromagnetic fields of a two-dimensional optical waveguide with a diagonal permittivity tensor are formulated mathematically and solved numerically. The results for some refractive-index profiles in the isotropic case are in good agreement with the solutions of other authors. A specific calculation is made for an anisotropic diffusion waveguide. Practical applications of integrated optics require understanding of light propagation in dielectric waveguides of various geometries and calls for elegant and quick methods of analysis. In this paper, we use beam propagation method to analyse some integrated optic waveguiding elements such as waveguide with bend and branching waveguide. The method is extended to cylindrical co-ordinates, so that structures with circular symmetry can be easily solved. We first present a general beam propagation method algorithm, followed by results taking typical values for various parameters. Our studies show that the efficiency of the method depends on thez-propagation steps and on the number of points chosen for the Fourier transform. The algorithm developed can be used to analyse many other integrated optic structures and to study the effect of other input beam profiles.  相似文献
