A long-range hybrid slot surface plasmon waveguiding structure that is capable of achieving ultra-small mode confinement and a long propagation distance simultaneously is proposed in this article. In comparison with the conventional long-range hybrid surface plasmon waveguide, the proposed waveguide can provide one order smaller mode area and a longer propagation distance by introducing a through-slot in the gap region. Meanwhile, the practical fabrication errors have little influence over mode properties of the waveguide. These results indicate that our designed waveguide can be a potential candidate for high-performance nanophotonic circuit and device.  相似文献

A modified planar waveguide made of a metamaterial with negative permittivity and permeability has been considered. The modification of the waveguide by the introduction of an air channel qualitatively changes its dispersion characteristics due to the appearance of an ultraslow mode. The fields and properties of this mode have been investigated. The mode has been shown to be similar to a surface plasmon. In addition, it has been shown that the plasmons can propagate in subwavelength waveguides. Such ultraslow plasmons can be used in plasmonics, microwave and accelerator techniques.  相似文献

设计了一种由涂覆双层石墨烯的圆形介质纳米线组成的表面等离子体光波导。利用有限元法(FEM),数值分析了纳米线半径、介质夹层厚度、石墨烯化学势以及工作频率对波导所支持的电磁场模式的有效折射率、传播长度、归一化模式面积以及品质因数等模式特性的影响。结果表明,这种新型的混合表面等离子体光波导具有很强的模式束缚能力,归一化模式面积非常小,可以实现极高密度的器件集成,并且传输损耗较低。  相似文献

Theoretical and experimental study of the surface plasmon–polariton and guided wave plasmon polariton modes is presented for the Sapphire/Ag/Polycarbonate/Air structure. Theoretical results are obtained by solving complex multilayer eigenvalue equations as well as the reflectivity equation for this structure. It is proposed that the mode attenuation can be significantly reduced by inserting a low index dielectric buffer between the metal and the guiding dielectric layer. The dispersion and attenuation curves are generated. Both the surface plasmon and guided wave plasmon polariton modes are studied experimentally. The experimental values of the effective refractive indices agree well with the theoretical values. The electric field profiles are generated and used to examine the nature of modes. After optimization of various parameters the condition for low loss single mode guiding is obtained for the proposed structure. Effect of metal thickness on surface plasmon mode is also discussed. It is inferred that in a properly optimized plasmonic waveguide, the losses can be reduced by a factor of 4.  相似文献

The concept of adiabatic mode transformation between silicon waveguide and surface plasmon-polariton modes in subwavelength metal-dielectric slots is investigated. The mode transformer consists of a modulated-index slot region, which is bound by two metal slabs. Using the design scheme, we will show that the optical dispersion of a modulated-index metal slot waveguide can be engineered well above the silicon light-line on a large wavelength region, allowing direct phase-matching between surface plasmon polaritons and traditional waveguide modes. Based on full-field, finite difference simulations, we demonstrate that reversible mode conversion can be achieved within submicrometer length scales.  相似文献

理论上研究了介质/石墨烯/介质梳状波导结构中表面等离子体的传播性质. 波导中表面等离子体模的有效折射率随着石墨烯费米能级的提高而减小, 随着介质折射率的增加而增加. 分析和仿真结果表明, 基于这种梳状波导可以在中红外波段实现新型的纳米等离子体滤波器, 器件的尺度在几百纳米的范围. 通过改变梳状分支的长度, 石墨烯的费米能级, 介质的折射率和波导中石墨烯的层数, 很容易来调节带隙的位置. 另外, 滤波带隙的宽度随着梳状分支数的增加而增加. 这种滤波性质将在可调的高集成光子滤波器件中具有潜在的应用.  相似文献

开发设计了一种新的列阵自动对接方法,该方法将多目标演化法导入光纤—光波导列阵—光纤列阵的自动对接,并行操作次数较常规遗传法大幅减少.数值仿真表明,对于模场非对称因子为0.4%的单模波导列阵与光纤列阵的双芯对接,能实现0.04 dB的平均端面耦合损耗.用于1×8波导分支耦合器与通道间距误差在0.35 μm以内的光纤列阵对接,自动耦合仿真达到了小于0.1 dB的平均端面耦合损耗,最大值与最小值的差小于0.06 dB.  相似文献

提出了一种新的一维金属异质波导阵列的设计方案,即波导芯区周期调制的金属波导阵列.数值模拟的结果表明,金属波导芯区的周期调制引起波导中传播的表面等离激元有效折射率的周期调制,从而可在特定的波段打开一个表面等离激元带隙(如1550nm附近).通过引入合适的缺陷波导单元,可获得特定波长的高品质因子(Q=556)的表面电磁模共振.这一结果可用于设计亚波长的布拉格反射器、光发射器、滤波器等,有可能被用于未来的集成光路.  相似文献

We discuss design issues of devices which were proposed recently [Opt. Lett. 37 (2012) 3903] for terahertz (THz) control of the propagation of an optical waveguide mode. The mode propagates through a nonlinear dielectric material placed in a metallic nanoslit illuminated by THz radiation. The THz field in the slit is strongly localized and thus significantly enhanced, facilitating nonlinear interactions with the dielectric waveguide material. This enhancement can lead to notable changes in the refractive index of the waveguide. The closer the waveguide is to the slit walls, the higher the nonlinear effects are, but with the cost of increasing propagation losses due to parasitic coupling to surface plasmon polaritons at the metal interfaces. We analyze several optical waveguide configurations and define a figure of merit that allows us to design the optimal configuration. We find that designs with less overlap of the THz and optical fields but also with lower losses are better than designs where both these parameters are higher. The estimated terahertz field incident onto the metallic nanoslit required to manipulate the waveguide mode has reasonable values which can be achieved in practice.  相似文献

提出并设计了一种基于电光聚合物的锥形波导,可用于单模光纤与电光聚合物波导器件之间的连接.锥形波导中采用了宽度锥形和折射率锥形结构.宽度锥形采用劈形形状,通过宽度和折射率的缓慢变化实现模场转换.劈形形状的宽度锥形具有较小的损耗且易于制作,折射率锥形可采用灰度掩膜光刻技术制作.研究了锥形波导的传输损耗与锥形波导的长度、波导宽度和厚度、材料吸收损耗等参数的关系及其优化,分析了锥形波导中的功率传输、模场分布与模式转换效率.结果显示锥形波导的传输损耗小于0.37 dB,光纤-波导-光纤的连接损耗优于1.62 dB,对插入损耗的改善达到8.78 dB,模场转换效率达到了83.7%.  相似文献

使用时域有限差分法,研究了各向异性特异材料(AMM)作为包层的AMM/介质/AMM波导中表面等离子体的共振性质.色散关系表明,当特异材料为负磁导率的always-cutoff型时,AMM/介质/AMM波导支持TE极化的表面等离子体,表面等离子体的波长随着中间介质层的厚度和特异材料磁等离子体频率的减小而变短.在有限长度AMM/介质/AMM波导中,由于两端界面的反射,表面等离子体模在波导中形成Fabry-Perot共振,而实现亚波长的表面等离子体微腔.在共振频率,电场强度在微腔的中部达到最大值,而磁场分别在两端界面处达到最大,电磁能强局域在中间介质层中,这一性质将在可调的具有强局域特性的亚波长微腔及腔量子电动力学中具有潜在的应用.  相似文献

A buried channel waveguide composed of several core layers (i.e., a expanded-core waveguide) is proved to exhibit single-mode wave characteristics and a mode field compatible with that of a standard single-mode fiber. A sufficient condition for achieving single-mode operation is derived using an effective-index method. The concept of expanded-core waveguides is then applied to the design of MMIC-based beam splitters. Numerical results show that the mode field would exhibit a strong evanescent wave for TM mode in case the core layers are not many enough, even the TE mode field is well confined in the expanded core region. This situation induces substantial polarization dependent loss and a large fiber coupling loss for TM wave. However, this situation can be improved by using more core layers for the expanded-core waveguide.  相似文献

A novel hybrid long-range surface plasmon waveguide structure comprising a narrow metal stripe, two relative low-index dielectric regions and dielectric ridges is proposed and analyzed. With the dielectric ridges and the two relative low-index dielectric regions symmetrically distributed on both sides of the narrow metal stripe, a symmetric hybrid long range mode with low electromagnetic transmission loss and subwavelength scale confinement is achieved. By optimizing the parameters, the propagation length of the proposed waveguide is increased to over two times to that of the conventional symmetric dielectric loaded surface plasmon waveguide, but the mode size only increases about 20%. For this benefit, the hybrid long-range surface plasmons waveguide is a good candidate for realizing high density photonic integration circuits.  相似文献

金属纳米线波导可以将光局域在亚波长尺度内传播, 在纳米光子集成回路方面有着重要的作用. 本文应用有限元方法, 研究了十字结构银纳米线的表面等离极化激元分束特性. 结果表明, 不同模式的表面等离极化激元在十字结构三个分支的输出依赖于端面的几何结构参数. 此外, 研究还发现由于不同模式表面等离极化激元叠加, 在十字结构的分支上出现了周期性电场分布.  相似文献

本文应用耦合波理论来计算任意渐变折射李光纤的传播常数和模场分布.将无限伸展的抛物型折射率分布光纤作为一个理想波导,任意径向不均匀折射率分布光纤便可以视作该理想波导的微扰,其模场可以展开成一组完备的理想波导模的叠加.然后,模场和传播常数可以通过耦合波方程求得.进一步将一阶微分方程组形式的耦合波方程变换成线性方程组,使计算过程大大简化.文中给出了数值计算结果,并将其与准确值进行了比较.  相似文献

This paper describes a multi-reflected mode based on a narrow waveguide to enlarge the interferential area of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). A reasonable thickness of metal film is coated under the waveguide, the incident angle and the waveguide thickness are optimized in order to effectively increase interferential area. This is a key point for research into the Goos--H\"anchen shift to optimize the waveguide thickness. Finally, the SPP interferential field is simulated with the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique to prove the optimized results, and indicates that not only is the interferential area enlarged, but the high contrast is also maintained. Furthermore, the mode can fabricate some specific interferential patterns by adding some modulating techniques to the waveguide. So the mode has potential application in the fabrication of sub-wavelength patterns.  相似文献

It has been recently demonstrated that negative-index dispersion and mode degeneracy can be achieved by manipulating a spoof-insulator-spoof(SIS) waveguide. In this paper, we propose a new SIS waveguide, which is composed of two spoof surface plasmon polaritons(SSPPs) waveguides drilled with periodic rhomboidal grooves. Both the symmetric and asymmetric cases are investigated. Our simulation results show that the asymmetric SIS waveguides are more significant.By tailoring the tilt of the rhomboidal grooves, the negative-index dispersion can be achieved and the microwave band gap(MBG) can be effectively modulated. At a critical tilt, there appears an accidental mode degeneracy at the edge of the first Brillouin zone. The excitation and propagation of the two coupled modes sustained by the asymmetric SIS waveguides are also demonstrated.  相似文献

研究了紫外表面等离激元在半导体纳米线-绝缘介质-金属构成的波导结构中的输运问题,借助有限元方法,对这种波导所支持导模的电磁能分布、有效折射率、传播长度和有效模场面积随电磁参数和几何结构参数的依赖关系进行了分析.计算结果表明:以氧化锌纳米线作为增益介质,绝缘材料选择折射率小的空气,金属选择铝能够实现对输出光场的亚波长约束,有效模场面积达到λ2/100,同时保持低的传输损耗和高场强限制能力;有望用作纳米光源,使得相关的生物探测器件和医疗诊断设备实现更高的灵敏度和更小的体积.  相似文献

In this paper, we describe a novel waveguide surface plasmon resonance sensing structure, which consists of a symmetric structure and a planar waveguide. The core component is the symmetric structure of the metal layer, tested sample, and metal layer. The refractive index matching condition of this structure can be adjusted through the thickness of the sample. The planar waveguide is used to excite the surface plasmon wave, and then the parameters are tested and analyzed. The surface plasmon wave is excited when glycerin solutions with concentrations of 0%–70% are used to detect at thicknesses of 300 and 500 nm. The problem that the effective refractive index of the ion exchange planar waveguide is large and using this index to excite the surface plasmon wave between the metal and dielectric for detection is difficult to achieve can be countered by appropriately choosing the thickness of the dielectric in order to be able to measure different refractive indices.  相似文献
