The threat associated with chemical warfare agents (CWAs) motivates the development of new materials to provide enhanced protection with a reduced burden. Metal–organic frame‐works (MOFs) have recently been shown as highly effective catalysts for detoxifying CWAs, but challenges still remain for integrating MOFs into functional filter media and/or protective garments. Herein, we report a series of MOF–nanofiber kebab structures for fast degradation of CWAs. We found TiO2 coatings deposited via atomic layer deposition (ALD) onto polyamide‐6 nanofibers enable the formation of conformal Zr‐based MOF thin films including UiO‐66, UiO‐66‐NH2, and UiO‐67. Cross‐sectional TEM images show that these MOF crystals nucleate and grow directly on and around the nanofibers, with strong attachment to the substrates. These MOF‐functionalized nanofibers exhibit excellent reactivity for detoxifying CWAs. The half‐lives of a CWA simulant compound and nerve agent soman (GD) are as short as 7.3 min and 2.3 min, respectively. These results therefore provide the earliest report of MOF–nanofiber textile composites capable of ultra‐fast degradation of CWAs.  相似文献

A UiO‐66‐NCS MOF was formed by postsynthetic modification of UiO‐66‐NH2. The UiO‐66‐NCS MOFs displays a circa 20‐fold increase in activity against the chemical warfare agent simulant dimethyl‐4‐nitrophenyl phosphate (DMNP) compared to UiO‐66‐NH2, making it the most active MOF materials using a validated high‐throughput screening. The ?NCS functional groups provide reactive handles for postsynthetic polymerization of the MOFs into functional materials. These MOFs can be tethered to amine‐terminated polypropylene polymers (Jeffamines) through a facile room‐temperature synthesis with no byproducts. The MOFs are then crosslinked into a MOF–polythiourea (MOF–PTU) composite material, maintaining the catalytic properties of the MOF and the flexibility of the polymer. This MOF–PTU hybrid material was spray‐coated onto Nyco textile fibers, displaying excellent adhesion to the fiber surface. The spray‐coated fibers were screened for the degradation of DMNP and showed durable catalytic reactivity.  相似文献

Hybridization of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and polymers into composites yields materials that display the exceptional properties of MOFs with the robustness of polymers. However, the realization of MOF–polymer composites requires efficient dispersion and interactions of MOF particles with polymer matrices, which remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report a simple, scalable, bench‐top approach to covalently tethered nylon–MOF polymer composite materials through an interfacial polymerization technique. The copolymerization of a modified UiO‐66‐NH2 MOF with a growing polyamide fiber (PA‐66) during an interfacial polymerization gave hybrid materials with up to around 29 weight percent MOF. The covalent hybrid material demonstrated nearly an order of magnitude higher catalytic activity for the breakdown of a chemical warfare simulant (dimethyl‐4‐nitrophenyl phosphate, DMNP) compared to MOFs that are non‐covalently, physically entrapped in nylon, thus highlighting the importance of MOF–polymer hybridization.  相似文献

Versatility in metal substitution is one of the key aspects of metal‐organic framework (MOF) chemistry, allowing properties to be tuned in a rational way. As a result, it important to understand why MOF syntheses involving different metals arrive at or fail to produce the same topological outcome. Frequently, conditions are tuned by trial‐and‐error to make MOFs with different metal species. We ask: is it possible to adjust synthetic conditions in a systematic way in order to design routes to desired phases? We have used in situ X‐ray powder diffraction to study the solvothermal formation of isostructural M2(bdc)2dabco (M=Zn, Co, Ni) pillared‐paddlewheel MOFs in real time. The metal ion strongly influences both kinetics and intermediates observed, leading in some cases to multiphase reaction profiles of unprecedented complexity. The standard models used for MOF crystallization break down in these cases; we show that a simple kinetic model describes the data and provides important chemical insights on phase selection.  相似文献

Metal–organic framework (MOF)‐derived nanoporous carbon materials have attracted significant interest due to their advantages of controllable porosity, good thermal/chemical stability, high electrical conductivity, catalytic activity, easy modification with other elements and materials, etc. Thus, MOF‐derived carbons have been used in numerous applications, such as environmental remediations, energy storage systems (i.e. batteries, supercapacitors), and catalysts. To date, many strategies have been developed to enhance the properties and performance of MOF‐derived carbons. Herein, we introduce and summarize recent important approaches for advanced MOF‐derived carbon structures with a focus on precursor control, heteroatom doping, shape/orientation control, and hybridization with other functional materials.  相似文献

New materials and chemical knowledge for improved personal protection are among the most pressing needs in the international community. Reported attacks using chemical warfare agents (CWAs,) including organophosphate soman (GD) and thioether mustard gas (HD) are driving research in field-deployable catalytic composites for rapid toxin degradation. In this work, we report simple template-free low temperature synthesis that enables for the first time, a deployable-structured catalytic metal-organic framework/polymer textile composite “MOF-fabric” showing rapid hydrolysis and oxidation of multiple active chemical warfare agents, GD and HD, respectively, and their simulants. Our method yields new zirconium–porphyrin based nano-crystalline PCN-222 MOF-fabrics with adjustable MOF loading and robust mechanical adhesion on low-cost nonwoven polypropylene fibers. Importantly, we describe quantitative kinetic analysis confirming that our MOF-fabrics are as effective as or better than analogous MOF powders for agent degradation, especially for oxidation. Faster oxidation using the MOF-fabrics is ascribed to the composite geometry, where active MOF catalysts are uniformly displayed on the MOF-textile enabling better reactant transport and reactive oxidant generation. Furthermore, we note the discovery of visible photo-activation of GD hydrolysis by a MOF-fabric, which is ascribed to oxidation at the active metal node site, significantly increasing the rate over that observed without illumination. These results provide important new insights into the design of future materials and chemical systems to protect military, first-responders, and civilians upon exposure to complex chemical toxins.  相似文献

Miniaturizing the size of metal‐organic framework (MOF) crystals to the nanometer scale is challenging, but it provides more advanced applications without changing the characteristic features itself. It is especially useful to investigate the correlation between the porous properties and the interfacial structures of nanocrystals. Using amino acids as capping agents, nanoscale Tb‐MOF‐76 is fabricated rapidly by means of microwave‐assisted methods. Both the modular effects of the amimo acids and the acid–base environment of the reaction medium have an important impact on the morphologies and dimensions of Tb‐MOF‐76. The structures of the samples are confirmed by powder X‐ray diffraction, and the morphologies are characterized by SEM. Photoluminescence studies reveal that these Tb‐MOF‐76 materials exhibit a green emission corresponding to the transition 5D47FJ of Tb3+ ions under UV‐light excitation, which is sensitive to small organic molecules in solution.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous materials that show promise in the removal of toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) from contaminated airstreams, though their development for this application has so far been hindered by issues of water stability and the wide availability and low cost of traditionally used activated carbons. Here a series of three MOF‐activated carbon composite materials with different MOF to carbon ratios are prepared by growing STAM‐17‐OEt crystals inside the commercially available BPL activated carbon. The composite materials display excellent water stability and increased uptake of ammonia gas when compared to unimpregnated carbon. Such properties make these composites very promising in the fields of air purification and personal protective equipment.  相似文献

Owing to their high surface area, periodic distribution of metal sites, and water stability, zirconium‐based metal–organic frameworks (Zr6‐MOFs) have shown promising activity for the hydrolysis of nerve agents GD and VX, as well as the simulant, dimethyl 4‐nitrophenylphosphate (DMNP), in buffered solutions. A hurdle to using MOFs for this application is the current need for a buffer solution. Here the destruction of the simulant DMNP, as well as the chemical warfare agents (GD and VX) through hydrolysis using a MOF catalyst mixed with a non‐volatile, water‐insoluble, heterogeneous buffer is reported. The hydrolysis of the simulant and nerve agents in the presence of the heterogeneous buffer was fast and effective.  相似文献

To achieve efficient water splitting, it is essential to develop catalysts with high electrochemical performance, enhanced durability and tunable properties. Most of the transition metal‐based catalysts employed for the water splitting have been fabricated on the solid‐electrode support by using binder, which decreases the activity and durability of the catalyst system. In this respect, self‐supported metal organic framework (MOF) derived catalysts have been introduced with enhanced catalytic activity and mechanical stability for the electrochemical water splitting. The self‐supported MOF derived catalysts exhibit improved electronic conductivity, high electrochemical surface area, enhanced mechanical stability and strong catalyst‐support interaction. Moreover, these catalysts possess highly porous and hollow structure with designed morphology and multi‐metallic composition. Recently, a tremendous effort has been provided to explore this newly growing field and new dimensions and directions have been achieved. Looking at this point, we have described here the basic principles of catalyst design from self‐supported MOF, structural and interface engineering by controlling the electronic structure of the catalysts to improve the water splitting activity. In addition, the challenges and difficulties associated with this field have been pointed out and addressed for the future progress in this field.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), as a class of microporous materials with well‐defined channels and rich functionalities, hold great promise for various applications. Yet the formation and crystallization processes of various MOFs with distinct topology, connectivity, and properties remain largely unclear, and the control of such processes is rather challenging. Starting from a 0D Cu coordination polyhedron, MOP‐1, we successfully unfolded it to give a new 1D‐MOF by a single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal (SCSC) transformation process at room temperature as confirmed by SXRD. We also monitored the continuous transformation states by FTIR and PXRD. Cu MOFs with 2D and 3D networks were also obtained from this 1D‐MOF by SCSC transformations. Furthermore, Cu MOFs with 0D, 1D, and 3D networks, MOP‐1, 1D‐MOF, and HKUST‐1, show unique performances in the kinetics of the C?H bond catalytic oxidation reaction.  相似文献

Heterostructured metal—organic framework (MOF)‐on‐MOF thin films have the potential to cascade the various properties of different MOF layers in a sequence to produce functions that cannot be achieved by single MOF layers. An integration method that relies on van der Waals interactions, and which overcomes the lattice‐matching limits of reported methods, has been developed. The method deposits molecular sieving Cu‐TCPP (TCPP=5,10,15,20‐tetrakis(4‐carboxyphenyl)porphyrin) layers onto semiconductive Cu‐HHTP (HHTP=2,3,6,7,10,11‐hexahydrotriphenylene) layers to obtain highly oriented MOF‐on‐MOF thin films. For the first time, the properties in different MOF layers were cascaded in sequence to synergistically produce an enhanced device function. Cu‐TCPP‐on‐Cu‐HHTP demonstrated excellent selectivity and the highest response to benzene of the reported recoverable chemiresistive sensing materials that are active at room temperature. This method allows integration of MOFs with cascading properties into advanced functional materials.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising materials for gas‐separation and air‐filtration applications. However, for these applications, MOF crystallites need to be incorporated in robust and manageable support materials. We used chitin‐based networks from a marine sponge as a non‐toxic, biodegradable, and low‐weight support material for MOF deposition. The structural properties of the material favor predominant nucleation of the MOF crystallites at the inside of the hollow fibers. This composite has a hierarchical pore system with surface areas up to 800 m2 g−1 and pore volumes of 3.6 cm3 g−1, allowing good transport kinetics and a very high loading of the active material. Ammonia break‐through experiments highlight the accessibility of the MOF crystallites and the adsorption potential of the composite indicating their high potential for filtration applications for toxic industrial gases.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have limited applications in electrochemistry owing to their poor conductivity. Now, an electroactive MOF (E‐MOF) is designed as a highly crystallized electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitter in aqueous medium. The E‐MOF contains mixed ligands of hydroquinone and phenanthroline as oxidative and reductive couples, respectively. E‐MOFs demonstrate excellent performance with surface state model in both co‐reactant and annihilation ECL in aqueous medium. Compared with the individual components, E‐MOFs significantly improve the ECL emission due to the framework structure. The self‐enhanced ECL emission with high stability is realized by the accumulation of MOF cation radicals via pre‐reduction electrolysis. The self‐enhanced mechanism is theoretically identified by DFT. The mixed‐ligand E‐MOFs provide a proof of concept using molecular crystalline materials as new ECL emitters for fundamental mechanism studies.  相似文献

Herein, we present heterogeneous hollow multi‐shelled structures (HoMSs) prepared by exploiting the properties of the metal–organic framework (MOFs) casing. Through accurately controlling the transformation of MOF layer into different heterogeneous casings, we can precisely design HoMSs of SnO2@Fe2O3(MOF) and SnO2@FeOx‐C(MOF), which not only retain properties of the original SnO2‐HoMSs, but also structural information from the MOFs. Tested as anode materials in LIBs, SnO2@Fe2O3 (MOF)‐HoMSs demonstrate superior lithium‐storage capacity and cycling stability to the original SnO2‐HoMSs, which can be attributed to the topological features from the MOF casing. Making a sharp contrast to the electrodes of SnO2@Fe2O3 (particle)‐HoMSs fabricated by hydrothermal method, the capacity retention after 100 cycles for the SnO2@Fe2O3 (MOF)‐HoMSs is about eight times higher than that of the SnO2@Fe2O3 (particle)‐HoMS.  相似文献

Molecular organization of donor and acceptor chromophores in self‐assembled materials is of paramount interest in the field of photovoltaics or mimicry of natural light‐harvesting systems. With this in mind, a redox‐active porous interpenetrated metal–organic framework (MOF), {[Cd(bpdc)(bpNDI)] ? 4.5 H2O ? DMF}n ( 1 ) has been constructed from a mixed chromophoric system. The μ‐oxo‐bridged secondary building unit, {Cd2(μ‐OCO)2}, guides the parallel alignment of bpNDI (N,N′‐di(4‐pyridyl)‐1,4,5,8‐naphthalenediimide) acceptor linkers, which are tethered with bpdc (bpdcH2=4,4′‐biphenyldicarboxylic acid) linkers of another entangled net in the framework, resulting in photochromic behaviour through inter‐net electron transfer. Encapsulation of electron‐donating aromatic molecules in the electron‐deficient channels of 1 leads to a perfect donor–acceptor co‐facial organization, resulting in long‐lived charge‐separated states of bpNDI. Furthermore, 1 and guest encapsulated species are characterised through electrochemical studies for understanding of their redox properties.  相似文献

Research into extended porous materials such as metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and porous organic frameworks (POFs), as well as the analogous metal‐organic polyhedra (MOPs) and porous organic cages (POCs), has blossomed over the last decade. Given their chemical and structural variability and notable porosity, MOFs have been proposed as adsorbents for industrial gas separations and also as promising filler components for high‐performance mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs). Research in this area has focused on enhancing the chemical compatibility of the MOF and polymer phases by judiciously functionalizing the organic linkers of the MOF, modifying the MOF surface chemistry, and, more recently, exploring how particle size, morphology, and distribution enhance separation performance. Other filler materials, including POFs, MOPs, and POCs, are also being explored as additives for MMMs and have shown remarkable anti‐aging performance and excellent chemical compatibility with commercially available polymers. This Review briefly outlines the state‐of‐the‐art in MOF‐MMM fabrication, and the more recent use of POFs and molecular additives.  相似文献

An unprecedented mode of reactivity of Zn4O‐based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) offers a straightforward and powerful approach to polymer‐hybridized porous solids. The concept is illustrated with the production of MOF‐5‐polystyrene wherein polystyrene is grafted and uniformly distributed throughout MOF‐5 crystals after heating in pure styrene for 4–24 h. The surface area and polystyrene content of the material can be fine‐tuned by controlling the duration of heating styrene in the presence of MOF‐5. Polystyrene grafting significantly alters the physical and chemical properties of pristine MOF‐5, which is evident from the unique guest adsorption properties (solvatochromic dye uptake and improved CO2 capacity) as well as the dramatically improved hydrolytic stability of composite. Based on the fact that MOF‐5 is the best studied member of the structure class, and has been produced at scale by industry, these findings can be directly leveraged for a range of current applications.  相似文献
