[n]Helicenes with helically twisted structures have attracted increasing interest owing to their unique properties. Therefore, it has been an important issue to develop facile synthetic methodologies which allow access to a variety of [n]helicenes. Here we report the synthesis of [7]helicenes and [7]helicene-like compounds from the thia[7]helicene as a common starting material. Desulfurative dilithiation of the thia[7]helicene and the subsequent reaction with silicon and phosphorus electrophiles afforded the silole- and phosphole-fused [7]helicene-like compounds, respectively. The cyclopentadiene-fused [7]helicene-like compound and the pyrrole-fused aza[7]helicenes were also successfully synthesized via twofold SNAr reactions of the thia[7]helicene S,S-dioxide with the carbon and nitrogen nucleophiles, respectively. The thia[7]helicene S,S-dioxide showed a slightly red-shifted absorption spectrum than the parent thia[7]helicene, which was well demonstrated by the theoretical calculations. The substituents on the silicon atom of silole-fused [7]helicene-like compounds have little impact on the longest absorption maximum. Such little effect of the substituents on absorption properties was also observed for cyclopentadiene-fused [7]helicene-like compounds and aza[7]helicenes and was well demonstrated by the theoretical calculations. The thia[7]helicene S,S-dioxide and the silole-fused [7]helicene-like compound exhibited bright blue emission, and the cyclopentadiene-fused [7]helicene-like compound and the aza[7]helicenes showed strong violet emission. Each single enantiomer of the aza[7]helicenes showed circularly-polarized luminescence with the dissymmetry factors of 4.2~4.4 × 10−3.  相似文献

A series of fluorescent “push‐pull” tetrathia[9]helicenes based on quinoxaline (acceptor) fused with tetrathia[9]helicene (donor) derivatives was synthesized for control of the excited‐state dynamics and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) properties. In this work, introduction of a quinoxaline onto the tetrathia[9]helicene skeleton induced the “push–pull” character, which was enhanced by further introduction of an electron‐releasing Me2N group or an electron‐withdrawing NC group onto the quinoxaline unit (denoted as Me2N‐QTTH and NC‐QTTH, respectively). These trends were successfully discussed in terms of by electrochemical measurements and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. As a consequence, significant enhancements in the fluorescence quantum yields (ΦFL) were achieved. In particular, the maximum ΦFL of Me2N‐QTTH was 0.43 in benzene (NC‐QTTH: ΦFL=0.30), which is more than 20 times larger than that of a pristine tetrathia[9]helicene (denoted as TTH; ΦFL=0.02). These enhancements were also explained by kinetic discussion of the excited‐state dynamics such as fluorescence and intersystem crossing (ISC) pathways. Such significant enhancements of the ΦFL values thus enabled us to show the excellent CPL properties. The value of anisotropy factor gCPL (normalized difference in emission of right‐handed and left‐handed circularly polarized light) was estimated to be 3.0×10?3 for NC‐QTTH.  相似文献

A carbazole‐based diaza[7]helicene, 2,12‐dihexyl‐2,12‐diaza[7]helicene ( 1 ), was synthesized by a photochemical synthesis and its use as a deep‐blue dopant emitter in an organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) was examined. Compound 1 exhibited good solubility and excellent thermal stability with a high decomposition temperature (Td=372.1 °C) and a high glass‐transition temperature (Tg, up to 203.0 °C). Single‐crystal structural analysis of the crystalline clathrate ( 1 )2 ? cyclohexane along with a theoretical investigation revealed a non‐planar‐fused structure of compound 1 , which prevented the close‐packing of molecules in the solid state and kept the molecule in a good amorphous state, which allowed the optimization of the properties of the OLED. A device with a structure of ITO/NPB (50 nm)/CBP:5 % 1 (30 nm)/BCP (20 nm)/Mg:Ag (100 nm)/Ag (50 nm) showed saturated blue light with Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.15, 0.10); the maximum luminance efficiency and brightness were 0.22 cd A?1 (0.09 Lm W?1) and 2365 cd m?2, respectively. This new class of helicenes, based on carbazole frameworks, not only opens new possibilities for utilizing helicene derivatives in deep‐blue‐emitting OLEDs but may also have potential applications in many other fields, such as molecular recognition and organic nonlinear optical materials.  相似文献

A facile two‐step synthesis of aza[7]helicenes possessing a 6‐5‐6‐6‐6‐5‐6 skeleton from commercially available 2,9‐dichloro‐1,10‐phenanthroline via double amination with aniline derivatives followed by hypervalent iodine reagent‐mediated intramolecular double‐NH/CH couplings was developed. Single‐crystal X‐ray analyses of the helicenes revealed unique structures, including both a significantly twisted center and planar terminals of the skeleton. The azahelicenes show high fluorescent quantum yields (Φ s) under both neutral (Φ : 0.25–0.55) and acidic conditions (Φ : up to 0.80). An enantiomerically pure aza[7]helicene showed high circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) activity under both neutral and acidic conditions (g lum: up to 0.009).  相似文献

An efficient route to the synthesis of benzo[5]helicene derivatives functionalized on the interior side of the helix was developed, and resulted in a series of 1,16‐diaryl‐substituted benzo[5]helicene derivatives starting from easily available 7‐methoxytetralone. X‐ray crystal structures showed that the benzo[5]helicene derivatives had highly helical, twisted structures, and could all create hierarchical packing architectures with alternating P and M layers in the solid state. Moreover, seven pairs of enantiomers based on 1,16‐diaryl‐substituted benzo[5]helicene derivatives were also obtained by efficient resolution through HPLC with semipreparative chiral columns. The enantiomers all showed clear mirror‐image circular dichroism (CD) spectra and high specific optical rotations, and their absolute configurations were determined by X‐ray crystallography. Interestingly, a helical nanotubular structure was formed by the self‐assembly of one enantiomer through halogen bonding. Furthermore, the enantiomers were found to have high racemization barriers and thermostability, which might be caused by the introduction of aryl substituents at the C1(C16) position.  相似文献

Diazadithia[7]helicenes were synthesized from the readily available building block ethyl 7‐chloro‐8‐formylthieno[3,2‐f]quinoline‐2‐carboxylate by a Wittig reaction–photocyclization strategy. The helicene core was functionalized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution with a variety of nucleophiles (e.g., O‐, N‐, and C‐centered) and palladium‐catalyzed reactions such as Suzuki coupling and Buchwald–Hartwig amination. Racemization studies confirmed that the enantiopure forms of these [7]helicenes are conformationally stable compared to their lower analogues. The solid‐state structures of the novel diazadithia[7]helicenes were determined by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. The crystal structures of these azathia[7]helicenes show columnar stacking in antiparallel fashion. The HOMO–LUMO gaps of the new compounds were determined on the basis of electrochemical and optical measurements.  相似文献

Bridged helicenes: 3,15-ethano- and 3,15-(2-oxapropano)-[7]helicene The title compounds ( 35 and 33 , see Scheme 4) have been synthesized from a common intermediate: 3,15-dimethoxycarbonyl-[7]helicene ( 26 ). Diradicaloid helicenes constructed formally by non-benzenoid double π-extension of phenanthrene were synthesized by a common strategy involving double electrophilic benzannulation. Steric effects in the second benzannulation step led to considerable structural diversity among the products, yielding a symmetrical dinor[7]helicene 1 and two isomeric unsymmetrical double helicenes 2 and 3 , containing a nor[5]helicene and [4]helicene fragment, respectively, in addition to a common nor[6]helicene motif. Geometries, configurational dynamics, and electronic structure of these helicenes were analyzed using solid-state structures, spectroscopic methods, and computational analyses. The open-shell character of the singlet states of these helicenes increases in the order 3 < 1 < 2 , with strongly varying diradicaloid indexes and singlet–triplet gaps. Compounds 1 – 3 displayed narrow optical gaps of 0.79–1.25 eV, resulting in significant absorption in the near infrared (NIR) region. They also exhibit reversible redox chemistry, each of them yielding stable radical cations, radical anions, and dianions, in some cases possessing intense NIR absorptions extending beyond 2500 nm.  相似文献

It was serendipitously observed that cis‐[PtCl2(NCEt)PPh3] reacted differently with either racemic or enantiopure 4‐aza[6]helicene, giving respectively cis (racemic) and trans (enantiopure) [PtIICl2(4‐aza[6]helicene)PPh3] complexes. This unexpected reactivity is explained through a dynamic process (crystallization‐induced diastereoselective transformation) and enables a new aspect of reactivity in chiral transition‐metal complexes to be addressed.  相似文献

We present a high‐yielding intramolecular oxidative coupling within a diazadioxa[10]helicene to give a dihydro‐diazatrioxa[9]circulene. This is the first [n]circulene containing more than eight ortho‐annulated rings (n>8). The single‐crystal X‐ray structure reveals a tight columnar packing, with a proton from a pendant naphthalene moiety centred directly above the central nine‐membered ring. This distinct environment induces a significant magnetic deshielding effect on that particular proton as determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The origin of the deshielding effect was investigated computationally in terms of the NICS values. It is established that the deshielding effect originates from an induced paratropic ring current from the seven aromatic rings of the [9]circulene structure, and is not due to the nine‐membered ring being antiaromatic. UV/Vis spectroscopy reveals more efficient conjugation in the prepared diazatrioxa[9]circulene compared to the parent helical azaoxa[10]helicenes, and DFT calculations, including energy levels, confirm the experimental observations.  相似文献

Helicenes and heterohelicenes are attractive compounds with great potential in materials sciences to be used in optoelectronics as ligand backbones in enantioselective catalysis and as chiral sensors. The properties of these materials are related to the stereodynamics of these helical chiral compounds. However, little is known about features controlling stereodynamics in helicenes; in particular, for heterohelicenes the position of the heteroatom could be relevant in this respect. Herein the complete stereodynamic characterization of monoaza[5]helicenes is shown by enantioselective dynamic HPLC and DFT calculations. At variance with previous theoretical calculations, 1‐aza[5]helicene shows a surprisingly high enantiomerization barrier, which is triggered by specific solvent interactions.  相似文献

A tetrathia‐[7]‐helicene bearing in the 2 and 13 positions cyanovinyl groups was used as comonomer in the Michael‐type polyaddition reaction with N,N′‐bis(β‐mercaptoethyl)piperazine. This led to a new polymer bearing tetrathia‐[7]‐helicene units regularly distributed along the polymer backbone, which may be regarded as the first example of a new family of potentially useful nonlinear optical materials. All products were structurally characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry characterizations revealed the presence, in both monomeric and polymeric helicenes, of glass‐transition like temperatures, associated to some conformational variation of the helicene units. The optical properties, the film formation and the morphology of the polymer‐containing tetratia‐[7]‐helicenes were also investigated. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of organolithium reagent (RLi: R=nBu, iPr, sBu, tBu), solvent (diethyl ether, diethyl ether/THF and MTBE), and stoichiometry on the (?)‐sparteine‐mediated silylation of 7,8‐dipropyltetrathia[7]helicene shows that, unusually, substantially more than 0.5 equivalent of RLi (R=iPr, sBu, tBu) and a large excess of (?)‐sparteine (R=nBu, sBu) is often needed to achieve substantial conversions and good ee values. With nBuLi, however, just one equivalent of the organolithium reagent is sufficient to obtain high conversions. Our best results were obtained using the convenient tBuLi/(?)‐sparteine adduct with which the need for a high (?)‐sparteine/RLi ratio can be avoided. Single‐ and double‐kinetic resolution (KR) procedures give enantiopure samples of 2‐trimethylsilyl‐ and 2,13‐di(trimethylsilyl)‐7,8‐dipropyltetrathia[7]helicene and two‐step double‐KR combining (?)‐sparteine/sBuLi and chiral formamides affords the synthetically valuable 2‐formyl‐7,8‐dipropyltetrathia[7]helicene. This is the first use of (?)‐sparteine for the enantioselective lithiation of helicenes and the first report of tBuLi outperforming sBuLi in a (?)‐sparteine‐mediated procedure.  相似文献

In the present study, we have investigated different strategies for diastereoselective synthesis of thia[n]helicenes. We describe the introduction of different chiral auxiliaries at various positions and investigated their effect in the photocyclization reaction. Different chiral groups were placed at the sterically hindered position of the helical core and their interactions with various solvents and metals like copper were investigated. The use of CuI salts has led to high diastereoselectivity in the photocyclization process and we were successful in obtaining the thia[5]helicene in enantiomerically pure form in good yield. The single diastereomer obtained was characterized by X‐ray crystallography. From the study of the barrier of racemization of these thia[5]helicenes, the stability was found to be comparable to unsubstituted tetrathia[7]helicenes and substituted diazadithia[7]helicenes. This approach provides an easy access to enantiopure helicenes.  相似文献

Helicenes combine two central themes in chemistry: extended π-conjugation and chirality. Hetero-atom doping preserves both characteristics and allows modulation of the electronic structure of a helicene. Herein, we report the (BO)2-doped tetrathia[7]helicene 1 , which was prepared from 2-methoxy-3,3′-bithiophene in four steps. 1 is formally derived by substituting two (Mes)B−O moieties in place of (H)C=C(H) fragments in two benzene rings of the parent tetrathia[7]helicene. X-ray crystallography revealed a dihedral angle of 50.26(9)° between the two terminal thiophene rings. The (P)-/(M)- 1 enantiomers were separated by chiral HPLC and are configurationally stable at room temperature. The experimentally determined enantiomerization barrier of 27.4±0.1 kcal mol−1 is lower than that of tetrathia[7]helicene (39.4±0.1 kcal mol−1). The circular dichroism spectra of (P)- and (M)- 1 show a perfect mirror-image relationship. 1 is a blue emitter (λem=411 nm) with a photoluminescence quantum efficiency of ΦPL=6 % (cf. tetrathia[7]helicene: λem≈405 nm, ΦPL=5 %).  相似文献

Synthesis of helically chiral aromatics resulting from fusion of pyrene and [4]‐ or [5]helicene has been accomplished using photoredox catalysis employing a Cu‐based sensitizer as the key step. Photocyclisation experiments for the synthesis of the target compounds were carried out in batch and using continuous flow strategies. The solid‐state structures, UV/Vis absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra of the pyrene–helicene hybrids were investigated and compared to that of the parent [5]helicene to discern the effects of merging a pyrene moiety within a helicene skeleton. The studies demonstrated that pyrene–helicene hybrids adopt co‐planar or stacked arrangements in the solid state, in contrast to the solid‐state structure of the parent [5]helicene. The UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra of the pyrene–helicene hybrids exhibited strong red‐shifts when compared to the parent [5]helicene. DFT calculations suggest that the strategy of extending the π surface in the y axis of the helicenes increased their HOMO levels while also decreasing their LUMO levels, resulting in significantly reduced band gaps.  相似文献

An original approach to helicene frameworks exploiting atom economic isomerization of appropriate energy-rich aromatic cis,cis-dienetriynes has been developed. The new paradigm provides nonphotochemical syntheses of helicenes based on the easy, convergent, and modular assembly of key cis,cis-dienetriynes and their nickel(0)-catalyzed [2+2+2] cycloisomerization. The potential of the methodology is underlined by the syntheses of the parent [5]helicene (2), 7,8-dibutyl[5]helicene (23), [6]helicene (24), and [7]helicene (25). The approach can be adapted to prepare functionalized helicenes as exemplified by the eight-step synthesis of 7,8-dibutyl-2,3-dimethoxy[6]helicene (34). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that bis[2-((1Z)-1-buten-3-ynyl)phenyl]acetylene (1) and isomeric [5]helicene (2) differ enormously in the Gibbs energy content (DeltaG = -136.6 kcal x mol(-1)) to favor highly the devised intramolecular simultaneous construction of three aromatic rings.  相似文献

The synthesis and structural analysis of a quintuple [6]helicene with a corannulene core is reported. The compound was synthesized from corannulene in three steps including a five‐fold intramolecular direct arylation. X‐ray crystallographic analysis revealed a C5‐symmetric propeller‐shaped structure and one‐dimensional alignment in the solid state. The enantiomers of the quintuple [6]helicene were successfully separated by HPLC, and the chirality of the two fractions was identified by CD spectroscopy. A kinetic study yielded a racemization barrier of 34.2 kcal mol?1, which is slightly lower than that of pristine [6]helicene. DFT calculations indicate a rapid bowl‐to‐bowl inversion of the corannulene moiety and a step‐by‐step chiral inversion pathway for the five [6]helicene moieties.  相似文献
