A carbazole-based diaza[7]helicene, 2,12-dihexyl-2,12-diaza[7]helicene (1), was synthesized by a photochemical synthesis and its use as a deep-blue dopant emitter in an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) was examined. Compound 1 exhibited good solubility and excellent thermal stability with a high decomposition temperature (T(d)=372.1?°C) and a high glass-transition temperature (T(g), up to 203.0?°C). Single-crystal structural analysis of the crystalline clathrate (1)(2)?cyclohexane along with a theoretical investigation revealed a non-planar-fused structure of compound 1, which prevented the close-packing of molecules in the solid state and kept the molecule in a good amorphous state, which allowed the optimization of the properties of the OLED. A device with a structure of ITO/NPB (50?nm)/CBP:5?% 1 (30?nm)/BCP (20?nm)/Mg:Ag (100?nm)/Ag (50?nm) showed saturated blue light with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.15, 0.10); the maximum luminance efficiency and brightness were 0.22?cd?A(-1) (0.09?Lm?W(-1)) and 2365?cd?m(-2), respectively. This new class of helicenes, based on carbazole frameworks, not only opens new possibilities for utilizing helicene derivatives in deep-blue-emitting OLEDs but may also have potential applications in many other fields, such as molecular recognition and organic nonlinear optical materials.  相似文献

A new carbazole–fluorenyl hybrid compound, 3,3′(2,7‐di(naphthaline‐2‐yl)‐9H‐fluorene‐9,9‐diyl)bis(9‐phenyl‐9H‐carbazole) (NFBC) was synthesized and characterized. The compound exhibits blue‐violet emission both in solution and in film, with peaks centered at 404 and 420 nm. In addition to the application as a blue emitter, NFBC is demonstrated to be a good host for phosphorescent dopants. By doping Ir(2‐phq)3 in NFBC, a highly efficient orange organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) with a maximum efficiency of 32 cd A?1 (26.5 Lm W?1) was obtained. Unlike most phosphorescent OLEDs, the device prepared in our study shows little efficiency roll‐off at high brightness and maintains current efficiencies of 31.9 and 26.8 cd A?1 at a luminance of 1000 and 10 000 cd m?2, respectively. By using NFBC simultaneously as a blue fluorescence emitter and as a host for a phosphorescent dopant, a warm white OLED with a maximum efficiency of 22.9 Lm W?1 (21.9 cd A?1) was also obtained.  相似文献

Aryl‐substituted phenanthroimidazoles (PIs) have attracted tremendous attention in the field of organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs), because they are simple to synthesize and have excellent thermal properties, high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs), and bipolar properties. Herein, a novel blue–green emitting material, (E)‐2‐{4′‐[2‐(anthracen‐9‐yl)vinyl]‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐4‐yl}‐1‐phenyl‐1H‐phenanthro[9,10‐d]imidazole (APE‐PPI), containing a t‐APE [1‐(9‐anthryl)‐2‐phenylethene] core and a PI moiety was designed and synthesized. Owing to the PI skeleton, APE‐PPI possesses high thermal stability and a high PLQY, and the compound exhibits bipolar transporting characteristics, which were identified by single‐carrier devices. Nondoped blue–green OLEDs with APE‐PPI as the emitting layer show emission at λ=508 nm, a full width at half maximum of 82 nm, a maximum brightness of 9042 cd m?2, a maximum current efficiency of 2.14 cd A?1, and Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.26, 0.55). Furthermore, a white OLED (WOLED) was fabricated by employing APE‐PPI as the blue–green emitting layer and 4‐(dicyanomethylene)‐2‐tert‐butyl‐6‐(1,1,7,7‐tetramethyljulolidin‐4‐yl‐vinyl)‐4H‐pyran (DCJTB) doped in tris‐(8‐hydroxyquinolinato)aluminum (Alq3) as the red–green emitting layer. This WOLED exhibited a maximum brightness of 10029 cd m?2, a maximum current efficiency of 16.05 cd A?1, CIE coordinates of (0.47, 0.47), and a color rendering index (CRI) of 85. The high performance of APE‐PPI‐based devices suggests that the t‐APE and PI combination can potentially be used to synthesize efficient electroluminescent materials for WOLEDs.  相似文献

A blue fluorescent polymer based on poly(vinyl carbazole) (PVK) and terfluorene, combined to make a chemical hybrid at the carbazole unit (PVK‐TF), is fully characterized in this study. PVK‐TF shows useful emission features, such as peaks at 400, 420, 437, 460, and 496 nm, depending on the processing conditions. It possesses a relatively high triplet energy level (2.23 eV), electrochemical stability, good film‐forming ability, and morphological stability. Based on this blue fluorescent material, highly efficient orange phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) were fabricated with a maximum efficiency of 21.99 cd A?1, and a maximum luminance of 19552.3 cd m?2. Single‐layer hybrid white PLEDs were developed, with a high color rendering index of 81.9 that emitted across the whole visible spectrum from 380 to 780 nm, corresponding to the Commission International de L'Eclairage coordinates x, y values of around (0.38, 0.40) and CCT = 3774, with a maximum current efficiency of 10.69 cd A?1, and a maximum brightness of 15723.3 cd m?2. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New deep‐red light‐emitting phosphorescent dendrimers with hole‐transporting carbazole dendrons were synthesized by reacting tris(2‐benzo[b]thiophen‐2‐yl‐pyridyl) iridium (III) complex with carbazolyl dendrons by DCC‐catalyzed esterification. The resulting first‐, second‐, and third‐generation dendrimers were found to be highly efficient as solution‐processable emitting materials and for use in host‐free electrophosphorescent light‐emitting diodes. We fabricated a host‐free dendrimer EL device with configuration ITO/PEDOT:PSS (40 nm)/dendrimer (55 nm)/BCP (10 nm)/Alq3 (40 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm) and characterized the device performance. The multilayered devices showed luminance of 561 cd/m2 at 383.4 mA/cm2 (12 V) for 15 , 1302 cd/m2 at 321.3 mA/cm2 (14 V) for 16 , and 422 cd/m2 at 94.4 mA/cm2 (18 V) for 17 . The third‐generation dendrimer, 17 (ηext = 6.12% at 7.5 V), showed the highest external quantum efficiency (EQE) with an increase in the density of the light‐harvesting carbazole dendron. Three dendrimers exhibited considerably pure deep‐red emission with CIE 1931 (Commission International de L'Eclairage) chromaticity coordinates of x = 0.70, y = 0.30. The CIE coordinates remained very stable with the current density. The integration of rigid hole‐transporting dendrons and phosphorescent complexes provides a new route to design highly efficient solution‐processable materials for dendrimer light‐emitting diode (DLED) applications. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Excimers are generally considered as detrimental to OLEDs. For pyrene‐based chromophores, however, this is not always true. In this contribution, two new methylated tetraphenylpyrenes, 1,3,6,8‐tetra‐o‐tolylpyrene (TTPy) and 1,3,6,8‐tetrakis(3,5‐dimethylphenyl)pyrene (TDMPPy), were synthesized through Suzuki coupling reactions. TDMPPy absorbs and emits light at longer wavelengths than TTPy due to its more planar conformation and thus better conjugation. TDMPPy is prone to excimer formation, thus leading to a strong bathochromic shift (84 nm) in the photoluminescence spectrum of its film. TDMPPy exhibits efficient electroluminescence originating from pyrene excimers, affording a maximum luminance of 26 670 cd m?2 and a current efficiency as high as 10.8 cd A?1 in a non‐doped OLED (ITO/PEDOT:PSS (50 nm)/NPB (30 nm)/TDMPPy (30 nm)/TPBI (40 nm)/Ca:Ag).  相似文献

Carbazole and fluorene‐based random and alternating copolycondensates were synthesized to develop high‐performance blue light‐emitting polymers by improving electron injection ability of poly(N‐aryl‐2,7‐carbazole)s that showed intense blue electroluminescence (EL) with good hole‐injection and ‐transport ability. These copolycondensates absorbed light energy at about λmax = 390 nm in CHCl3 and 400 nm in film state, and fluoresced at about λmax = 417 nm in CHCl3 and 430 nm in the thin film state. Energy gaps between highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of them were about 2.9 eV, and the energy levels of LUMO situated lower than that of corresponding polycarbazole. Polymer light‐emitting diode devices having configuration of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐poly(styrenesulfonate)/polymer/CsF/Al using the copolycondensates, poly(N‐arylcarbazole‐2,7‐diyl), and poly(9,9‐dialkylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl), emitted bluish EL at operating voltages lower than 7 V. The device embedded the random copolycondensate showed notably higher performance with maximum luminance of 31,200 cd m?2 at 11.0 V, and the current efficiencies observed under operating voltages lower than 7 V were higher than those of the other devices. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we describe a bipolar molecular design for small molecule solution‐processed organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Combining the rigidity of the conjugated emissive cores and the flexibility of the peripheral alkyl‐linked carbazole groups, two series of highly efficient bipolar RGB (red, green, blue) emitters have been synthesized and characterized. The emissive cores are composed of electron‐withdrawing groups; the carbazole groups endow the materials electron‐donating units. Such bipolar structures are advantageous for the carrier injection and balance. Four peripheral carbazole groups are introduced in T‐series materials (TCDqC, TCSoC, TCBzC, TCNzC), and another four in O‐series materials (OCDqC, OCSoC, OCBzC, OCNzC). With the single‐layer device configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/emitting layer/CsF/Al, two green devices exhibited excellent performance with a maximum luminescence efficiency of over 6.4 cd A?1, and a high maximum luminance of more than 6700 cd m?2. In addition, compared with the T‐series, the luminescence efficiency of blue and red devices based on O‐series materials increased from 1.6 to 2.8 cd A?1 and 0.2 to 1.3 cd A?1, respectively. To our knowledge, the performance of the blue device based on OCSoC is among the best of the blue small‐molecule solution‐processed single‐layer devices reported so far.  相似文献

Donor–acceptor (D–A) molecular architecture has been shown to be an effective strategy for obtaining high‐performance electroluminescent materials. In this work, two D–A molecules, Ph‐BPA‐BPI and Py‐BPA‐BPI, have been synthesized by attaching highly fluorescent phenanthrene or pyrene groups to the C6‐ and C9‐positions of a locally excited‐state emitting phenylamine–phenanthroimidazole moiety. Equipped with good physical and hybridized local and charge‐transfer properties, both molecules show high performances as blue emitters in nondoped organic light‐emitting devices (OLEDs). An OLED using Ph‐BPA‐BPI as the emitting layer exhibits deep‐blue emission with CIE coordinates of (0.15, 0.08), and a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE), current efficiency (CE), and power efficiency (PE) of 4.56 %, 3.60 cd A?1, and 3.66 lm W?1, respectively. On the other hand, a Py‐BPA‐BPI‐based, sky‐blue OLED delivers the best results among nondoped OLEDs with CIEy values of < 0.3 reported so far, for which a very low turn‐on voltage of 2.15 V, CIE coordinates of (0.17, 0.29), and maximum CE, PE, and EQE values of 10.9 cd A?1, 10.5 lm W?1, and 5.64 %, were achieved, respectively. More importantly, both devices show little or even no efficiency roll‐off and high singlet exciton‐utilizing efficiencies of 36.2 % for Ph‐BPA‐BPI and 39.2 % for Py‐BPA‐BPI.  相似文献

Carbazole-based diaza[7]helicene substituted by thiophene groups, 2,12-dithiophene-5,15-dihexyl-5,15-diaza[7]helicene (6), was synthesised successfully and confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, High Resolution Mass Spectrometry, Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry. Compound 6 exhibited good solubility and excellent thermal stability with no melting point and a high decomposition temperature of 453.64 °C. A doped device with a structure of ITO/NPB (50 nm)/CBP: 10% 6 (30 nm)/Bphen (20 nm)/Mg:Ag (150 nm)/Ag (50 nm) emitted the blue light at 460 nm with Commission Internationale de LEclairage (CIE) coordinate of (0.176, 0.26). The maximum brightness and external quantum efficiency (EQE) were 2306 cd m?2 and 0.41%, respectively.  相似文献

A new class of sky‐blue‐ to green‐emitting carbazolylgold(III) C^C^N complexes containing pyrazole or benzimidazole moieties has been successfully designed and synthesized. Through the judicious choice of the N‐heterocycles in the cyclometalating ligand and the tailor‐made carbazole moieties, maximum photoluminescence quantum yields of 0.52 and 0.39 have been realized in the green‐ and sky‐blue‐emitting complexes, respectively. Solution‐processed and vacuum‐deposited organic light‐emitting devices (OLEDs) based on the benzimidazole‐containing complexes have been prepared. The sky‐blue‐emitting device shows an emission peaking at 484 nm with a narrow full‐width at half‐maximum of 57 nm (2244 cm?1), demonstrating the potential of this class of complexes in the application of OLEDs with high color purity. In addition, high maximum external quantum efficiencies of 12.3 % and a long operational half‐lifetime of over 5300 h at 100 cd m?2 have been achieved in the vacuum‐deposited green‐emitting devices.  相似文献

A novel sextuple hydrogen‐bonding (HB) self‐assembly molecular duplex bearing red‐emitting perylene diimide (PDI) fluorophores, namely PDIHB , was synthesized, and its molecular structure was confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, TOF‐MS and 2D NMR. Compared with the small molecular reference compound PDI , PDIHB shows one time enhanced fluorescence efficiency in solid state (4.1% vs. 2.1%). More importantly, the presence of bulky HB oligoamide strands in PDIHB could trigger effective spatial separation between guest and host fluorophores in thin solid film state, hence inefficient energy transfer occurs between the blue‐emitting host 2TPhNIHB and red guest PDIHB in the 2 wt% guest/host blending film. As a result, a solution‐processed organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) with quite simple device structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS (40 nm)/PVK (40 nm)/ PDIHB (2 wt%): 2TPhNIHB (50 nm)/LiF (0.8 nm)/Al (100 nm) could emit bias‐independent warm‐white electroluminescence with stable Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinates of (0.42, 0.33), and the maximum brightness and current efficiency of this device are 260 cd·m?2 and 0.49 cd·A?1, respectively. All these results indicated that HB self‐assembly supramolecular fluorophores could act as prospective materials for white OLED application.  相似文献

Blue light‐emitting polyfluorenes, PPF‐FSOs and PPF‐SOFs were synthesized via introducing spiro[fluorene‐9,9′‐thioxanthene‐S,S‐dioxide] isomers (2,7‐diyl and 2′,7′‐diyl) (FSO/SOF) into the poly[9,9‐bis(4‐(2‐ethylhexyloxy) phenyl)fluorene‐2,7‐diyl] (PPF) backbone, respectively. With the increasing contents of FSO and SOF moieties, the absorption and PL spectra of PPF‐FSOs show slight red shift, while that of PPF‐SOFs exhibit blue shift, respectively. The HOMO and LUMO levels reduce gradually with increasing SOF unit in PPF‐SOFs. The polymers emit blue light peaked around 430–445 nm and show an excellent spectral stability with the variation in current densities. The distinctly narrowing EL spectra were observed with the incorporation of isomers in the polymers. The full width at half maximum reduced by 15 nm for PPF‐SOFs, resulting in a blue shift with the CIE coordinates from (0.16, 0.11) to (0.16, 0.08). With a device configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/EML/CsF/Al, a maximum luminance efficiency (LEmax) of 2.00 cd A?1, a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 3.76% with the CIE coordinates of (0.16, 0.08) for PPF‐SOF15 and a LEmax of 1.68 cd A?1, a EQEmax of 2.38% with CIE (0.16, 0.12) for PPF‐FSO10 were obtained, respectively. The result reveals that spiro[fluorene‐9,9′‐thioxanthene‐S,S‐dioxide] isomers are promising blocks for deep‐blue light‐emitting polymers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A novel silicon‐based compound, 10‐phenyl‐2′‐(triphenylsilyl)‐10H‐spiro[acridine‐9,9′‐fluorene] (SSTF), with spiro structure has been designed, synthesized, and characterized. Its thermal, electronic absorption, and photoluminescence properties were studied. Its energy levels make it suitable as a host material or exciton‐blocking material in blue phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diodes (PhOLEDs). Accordingly, blue‐emitting devices with iridium(III) bis[(4,6‐difluorophenyl)‐pyridinato‐N,C2′]picolinate (FIrpic) as phosphorescent dopant have been fabricated and show high efficiency with low roll‐off. In particular, 44.0 cd A?1 (41.3 lm W?1) at 100 cd m?2 and 41.9 cd A?1 (32.9 lm W?1) at 1000 cd m?2 were achieved when SSTF was used as host material; 28.1 lm W?1 at 100 cd m?2 and 20.6 lm W?1 at 1000 cd m?2 were achieved when SSTF was used as exciton‐blocking layer. All of the results are superior to those of the reference devices and show the potential applicability and versatility of SSTF in blue PhOLEDs.  相似文献

We report novel host polymers for a high‐efficiency polymer‐based solution‐processed phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diode with typical blue‐emitting dopant bis(4,6‐difluorophenylpyridinato‐N,C2)iridium(III) picolinate (FIrpic). The host polymers, soluble polynorbornenes with pendant carbazole derivatives, N‐phenyl‐9H‐carbazole ( P1 ), N‐biphenyl‐9H‐carbazole ( P2 ), and 9,9′‐(1,3‐phenylene)bis‐9H‐carbazole (mCP) ( P3 ) are efficiently synthesized by vinyl addition polymerization of norbornene monomers using Pd(II) catalyst in combination with 1‐octene chain transfer agent. The polymers exhibit high thermal stability with high decomposition (Td5 > 410 °C) and glass transition temperatures (Tg ≈ 268 °C). The HOMO (ca. ?5.5 to ?5.7 eV) and LUMO (ca. ?2.0 to ?2.1 eV) levels with the high triplet energy of about 2.7–3.0 eV suggest that the polymers are suitable for a host material for blue emitters. Among the solution‐processed devices that were fabricated based on the emissive layers containing the P1 ? P3 host doped with various concentrations of FIrpic (7–13 wt %), the best device with P3 host exhibits power efficiency of 3.0 lm W?1 and external quantum efficiency of 4.0% at a luminance of 1000 cd m?2 that is outstanding among the polymeric rivals. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of a new ladder‐type poly (p‐phenylene) (LPFC) containing alkylcarbazole and dialkylfluorene units in backbone, and its optical and electrochemical properties as well as its light‐emitting device performance. LPFC shows the well‐defined structure, high molecular weights, excellent thermal stability, and good solubility in common organic solvents. And it also shows strongly blue emission (λmax = 465 nm) with quantum efficiency of 70% in solution, while its solid emission (λmax = 470 nm) is almost the same as its solution. Electrochemical studies show that the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels of LPFC is up to 5.29 eV, which is significantly higher than that of LPPP without carbazole in backbone, indicating an enhanced ability of hole injection from anodes. Furthermore, the single layer light‐emitting device using LPFC as the active layer shows blue emission (λmax = 470 nm) with maximum luminescence of ~ 2000 cd/m2 and maximum luminance efficiency of 0.43 cd/A. The attractive properties exhibited from new ladder‐type polymer establish LPFC as a good candidate for the potential application as transporting and emitting layer in polymeric light emitting diodes. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two hybrids based on 1,8‐disubstituted carbazole, 1,8‐OXDCz and 1,8‐mBICz , have been designed and synthesized through a facile process. The incorporation of oxadiazole or N‐phenylbenzimidazole moieties at the 1,8‐positions of carbazole greatly improves its morphological stability, giving glass transition temperatures (Tg) as high as 138 and 154 °C, respectively. Blue phosphorescent organic light‐emitting devices (PhOLEDs) with 1,8‐mBICz exhibit almost the same performance as a similarly structured device based on the mCP host, and green PhOLEDs employing the new host material 1,8‐OXDCz exhibit an ideal turn‐on voltage (2.5 V at 1.58 cd m?2), a maximum current efficiency (ηc,max) of 73.9 cd A?1, and a power efficiency (ηp,max) of 89.7 lm W?1. These results are among the best performances of [Ir(ppy)3]‐based devices with simple device configurations.  相似文献

Two novel copoly(p‐phenylene)s ( P1 – P2 ) containing bipolar groups (12.8 and 6.8 mol %, respectively), directly linked hole transporting triphenylamine and electron transporting aromatic 1,2,4‐triazole, were synthesized to enhance electroluminescence (EL) of poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) (PPV) derivatives. The bipolar groups not only enhance thermal stability but also promote electron affinity and hole affinity of the resulting copoly(p‐phenylene)s. Blending the bipolar copoly‐(p‐phenylene)s ( P1 – P2 ) with PPV derivatives ( d6‐PPV ) as an emitting layer effectively improve the emission efficiency of its electroluminescent devices [indium tin oxide (ITO)/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS)/polymer blend/Ca (50 nm)/Al (100 nm)]. The maximum luminance and maximum luminance efficiency were significantly enhanced from 310 cd m?2 and 0.03 cd A?1 ( d6‐PPV ‐based device) to 1450 cd m?2 and 0.20 cd A?1 (blend device with d6‐PPV / P1 = 96/4 containing ~0.5 wt % of bipolar groups), respectively. Our results demonstrate the efficacy of the copoly(p‐phenylene)s with bipolar groups in enhancing EL of PPV derivatives. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

New copolyfluorenes (PC8OF0–PC8OF50) comprised of 9,9‐dioctylfluorene and jacketed units 2,5‐bis[(5‐octyloxy‐phenyl)‐1,3,4‐ oxadiazole]‐1‐(3,5‐dibromophenyl)‐benzene (35C8) were synthesized by palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. They were characterized by molecular weight determination, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, DSC, TGA, absorption and emission spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). These copolymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents and exhibited high glass transition temperature and thermal stability. The copolymer films showed absorption peaks from 381 nm to 351 nm, and PL peaks from 432 nm to 421 nm with a blue shift originated from 35C8 units. Both the HOMO energy levels and LUMO levels changed little as the content of 35C8 units increased (?5.59 eV to ?5.48 eV and ?2.60 eV to ?2.49 eV). Electroluminescent devices: ITO/PEDOT:PSS[poly(ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrenesulfonate]/polymer/Ca (25 nm)/Ag(80 nm) (a), ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/TPBI [1,3,5‐ tris(N‐phenylbenzimidazol‐2‐yl)benzene](15 nm)/Mg:Ag(10:1, wt)/Ag (b), and ITO/ PEDOT:PSS/PVK[Poly(N‐vinylcarbazole)]/polymer/TPBI(15 nm)/Ca(25 nm)/Ag(80 nm) (c) were fabricated to investigate the influence of jacketed contents and device architectures on emission characteristics. The maximum brightness and current efficiency of the PC8OF25 device (5097.8 cd/m2 and 0.484 cd/A) surpassed those of the PC8OF0 device (3122.8 cd/m2 and 0.416 cd/A). The EL emissions of PC8OF0 – PC8OF50 were pure blue and low‐energy excimer emission bands were successfully suppressed, indicating that these copolymers could be good candidates for blue light‐emitting materials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new soluble alternating carbazolevinylene‐based polymers POXD and PTPA as well as the corresponding model compounds MOXD and MTPA were synthesized by Heck coupling. POXD and MOXD contained 2,5‐diphenyloxadiazole segments, while PTPA and MTPA contained triphenylamine segments. All samples displayed high thermal stability. The polymers had higher glass transition temperature (Tg) than their corresponding model compounds. The samples showed absorption maximum at 364–403 nm with optical band gap of 2.62–2.82 eV. They emitted blue‐green light with photoluminescence (PL) emission maximum at 450–501 nm and PL quantum yields in THF solution of 0.15–0.36. The absorption and the PL emission maxima of PTPA and MTPA were blue‐shifted as compared to those of POXD and MOXD . The electroluminescence (EL) spectra of multilayered devices made using four materials exhibited bluish green emissions, which is well consistent with PL spectra. The EL devices made using poly(vinyl carbazole) doped with MOXD and MTPA as emitting materials showed luminances of 12.1 and 4.8 cd m?2. POXD and PTPA exhibited 25.4, and 96.3 cd m?2, respectively. The polymer containing the corresponding molecules in the repeating group showed much higher device performances. Additionally, POXD and MOXD exhibited better stability of external quantum efficiency (EQE) and luminous efficiency with current density resulting from enhancing the electron transporting properties. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
