This is a survey about our recent works on the Gauss-Bonnet-Chern (GBC) mass for asymptotically flat and asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We first introduce the GBC mass, a higher order mass, for asymptotically flat and for asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds, respectively, by using a higher order scalar curvature. Then we prove its positivity and the Penrose inequality for graphical manifolds. One of the crucial steps in the proof of the Penrose inequality is the use of an Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality, which is a classical inequality in the Euclidean space. In the hyperbolic space, we have established this new Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality. We also have a similar work for asymptotically locally hyperbolic manifolds. At the end, we discuss the relation between the GBC mass and Chern’s magic form.  相似文献

We define a generalized mass for asymptotically flat manifolds using some higher order symmetric function of the curvature tensor. This mass is non-negative when the manifold is locally conformally flat and the σ k curvature vanishes at infinity. In addition, with the above assumptions, if the mass is zero, then, near infinity, the manifold is isometric to a Euclidean end.  相似文献

We prove a vanishing theorem for conformal vector fields on four–manifolds of negative scalar curvature. Our assumptions are conformally invariant, and in the case of locally conformally flat manifolds reduce to a sign condition on the Euler characteristic. We prove the Hijazi inequality, an estimate for Dirac eigenvalues, for complete manifolds of finite volume. Under some additional assumptions on the dimension and the scalar curvature, this inequality is also valid for elements of the essential spectrum. This allows to prove the conformal version of the Hijazi inequality on conformally parabolic manifolds if the spin analog to the Yamabe invariant is positive.  相似文献

We provide estimates on the Bartnik mass of constant mean curvature surfaces which are diffeomorphic to spheres and have positive mean curvature. We prove that the Bartnik mass is bounded from above by the Hawking mass and a new notion we call the asphericity mass. The asphericity mass is defined by applying Hamilton’s modified Ricci flow and depends only upon the restricted metric of the surface and not on its mean curvature. The theorem is proven by studying a class of asymptotically flat Riemannian manifolds foliated by surfaces satisfying Hamilton’s modified Ricci flow with prescribed scalar curvature. Such manifolds were first constructed by the first author in her dissertation conducted under the supervision of M. T. Wang. We make a further study of this class of manifolds which we denote Ham3, bounding the ADM masses of such manifolds and analyzing the rigid case when the Hawking mass of the inner surface of the manifold agrees with its ADM mass.  相似文献

In this paper we generalize Huber’s result on complete surfaces of finite total curvature. For complete locally conformally flat 4-manifolds of positive scalar curvature with Q curvature integrable, where Q is a variant of the Chern-Gauss-Bonnet integrand; we first derive the Cohn-Vossen inequality. In this paper we prove a mass-capacity inequality and a volumetric Penrose inequality for conformally flat manifolds, in arbitrary dimensions. As a by-product of the proofs, capacity and Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequalities for mean-convex Euclidean domains are obtained. For each inequality, the case of equality is characterized.  相似文献

This note contains considerations on the existence and non-existence problem of conformal scalar curvature equations on some complete manifolds. We impose two general types of conditions on complete manifolds. The first type is in terms of bounds on curvature and injectivity radius. The second type is in terms of some particular structures on ends of manifolds, for examples, manifolds with cones or cusps and conformally compact manifolds. We obtain non-existence results on both types of conditions. Then we study in more details the existence problem on manifolds with cones, manifolds with cusps and conformally flat manifolds of bounded positive scalar curvature.  相似文献

This article is the sequel to Lee and Sormani (Stability of the Positive Mass Theorem for Rotationally Symmetric Riemannian Manifolds, 2011. Preprint), which dealt with the near-equality case of the Positive Mass Theorem. We study the near-equality case of the Penrose Inequality for the class of complete asymptotically flat rotationally symmetric Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature whose boundaries are outermost minimal hypersurfaces. Specifically, we prove that if the Penrose Inequality is sufficiently close to being an equality on one of these manifolds, then it must be close to a Schwarzschild space with an appended cylinder, in the sense of Lipschitz distance. Since the Lipschitz distance bounds the intrinsic flat distance on compact sets, we also obtain a result for intrinsic flat distance, which is a more appropriate distance for more general near-equality results, as discussed in Lee and Sormani (Stability of the Positive Mass Theorem for Rotationally Symmetric Riemannian Manifolds, 2011. We study several aspects of the geometry of conformally stationary Lorentz manifolds, and particularly of GRW spaces, due to the presence of a closed conformal vector field. More precisely, we begin by extending a result of J. Simons on the minimality of cones in Euclidean space to these spaces, and apply it to the construction of complete, noncompact minimal Lorentz submanifolds of both de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spaces. Then we state and prove very general Bernstein-type theorems for spacelike hypersurfaces in conformally stationary Lorentz manifolds, one of which not assuming the hypersurface to be of constant mean curvature. Finally, we study the strong r-stability of spacelike hypersurfaces of constant r-th mean curvature in a conformally stationary Lorentz manifold of constant sectional curvature, extending previous results in the current literature.  相似文献

We prove a Penrose-like inequality for the mass of a large class of constant mean curvature (CMC) asymptotically flat n-dimensional spin manifolds which satisfy the dominant energy condition and have a future converging, or past converging compact and connected boundary of non-positive mean curvature and of positive Yamabe invariant. We prove that for every n ≥ 3 the mass is bounded from below by an expression involving the norm of the linear momentum, the volume of the boundary, dimensionless geometric constants and some normalized Sobolev ratio.  相似文献

In this note we study the conformal metrics of constant Q curvature on closed locally conformally flat manifolds. We prove that for a closed locally conformally flat manifold of dimension n ≥ 5 and with Poincaré exponent less than , the set of conformal metrics of positive constant Q and positive scalar curvature is compact in the C∞ topology.  相似文献

In this paper, we study asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds given as graphs of asymptotically constant functions over hyperbolic space ${\mathbb{H}^n}$ . The graphs are considered as unbounded hypersurfaces of ${\mathbb{H}^{n+1}}$ which carry the induced metric and have an interior boundary. For such manifolds, the scalar curvature appears in the divergence of a 1-form involving the integrand for the asymptotically hyperbolic mass. Integrating this divergence, we estimate the mass by an integral over the inner boundary. In case the inner boundary satisfies a convexity condition, this can in turn be estimated in terms of the area of the inner boundary. The resulting estimates are similar to the conjectured Penrose inequality for asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. The work presented here is inspired by Lam’s article (The graph cases of the Riemannian positive mass and Penrose inequalities in all dimensions. http://arxiv.org/abs/1010.4256, 2010) concerning the asymptotically Euclidean case. Using ideas developed by Huang and Wu (The equality case of the penrose inequality for asymptotically flat graphs. http://arxiv.org/abs/1205.2061, 2012), we can in certain cases prove that equality is only attained for the anti-de Sitter Schwarzschild metric.  相似文献

This paper studies Sobolev type inequalities on Riemannian manifolds. We show that on a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold the constant in the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality cannot be smaller than the optimal one on the Euclidean space of the same dimension. We also show that a complete non-compact manifold with asymptotically non-negative Ricci curvature admitting some Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality is not very far from the Euclidean space.  相似文献
