The present paper describes results of plate-impact pressure-shear friction experiments conducted to study time-resolved growth of molten metal films during dry metal-on-metal slip under extreme interfacial conditions. By employing tribo-pairs comprising hard tool-steel against relatively low melt-point metals such as 7075-T6 aluminum alloys, interfacial friction stress ranging from 100 to and slip speeds of approximately have been generated. These relatively high levels of friction stress combined with high slip-speeds generate conditions conducive for interfacial temperatures to approach the melting point of the lower melt point metal (Al alloy) comprising the tribo-pair.A Lagrangian finite element code is developed to understand the evolution of the thermo-mechanical fields and their relationship to the observed slip response. The code accounts for dynamic effects, heat conduction, contact with friction, and full thermo-mechanical coupling. At temperatures below the melting point the material is described as an isotropic thermally softening elastic-viscoplastic solid. For material elements with temperatures in excess of the melt point a purely Newtonian fluid constitutive model is employed.The results of the hybrid experimental-computational study provides new insights into the thermoelastic-plastic interactions during high speed metal-on-metal slip under extreme interfacial conditions. During the early part of frictional slip the coefficient of kinetic friction is observed to decrease with increasing slip velocity. During the later part transition in interfacial slip occurs from dry metal-on-metal sliding to the formation of molten Al films at the tribo-pair interface. Under these conditions the interfacial resistance approaches the shear strength of the molten aluminum alloy under normal pressures of approximately 1- and shear strain rates of . The results of the study indicate that under these extreme conditions molten aluminum films maintain a shearing resistance as high as .Scanning electron microscopy of the slip surfaces reveal molten aluminum to be smeared on the tribo-pair interface. Knoop hardness measurements in 7075-T6 Al alloy at various depths from the slip interface indicate that the hardness increases approximately linearly with depth and reaches a plateau at approximately from the surface.  相似文献

In the present study plate-impact pressureshear experiments have been conducted to study the dynamic shearing resistance of molten metal films at shearing rates of approximately 107 s−1. These molten films are generated by pressure-shear impact of relatively low melt-point metals such as 7075-T6 Al alloy with high hardness and high flow-strength tool-steel plates. By employing high impact speeds and relatively smooth impacting surfaces, normal interfacial pressures ranging from 1–3 GPa and slip speeds of over 100 m/s are generated during the pressure-shear loading. The resulting friction stress (∼100 to 400 MPa) combined with the high slip speeds generate conditions conductive to interfacial temperatures approaching the fully melt temperature regime of the lower melt-point metal (7075-T6 aluminum alloy) comprising the tribo-pair. During pressure-shear loading, laser interferometry is employed to measure normal and transverse motion at the rear surface of the target plate. The normal component of the particle velocity provides the interfacial normal traction while the transverse component provides the shearing resistance of the interface as it passes through melt. In order to extract the critical interfacial parameters, such as the interfacial slip-speed and interfacial temperatures, a Lagrangian finiteelement code is developed. The computational procedure accounts for dynamic effects, heat conduction, contact with friction, and full thermo-mechanical coupling. At temperatures below melt the flyer and target materials are described as an isotropic thermally softening elastic-viscoplastic solid. For material elements with temperatures in excess of the melt point, a purely Newtonian fluid constitutive model is employed. The results of this hybrid experimental-computational study provide insights into the dynamic shearing resistance of molten metal films at high pressures and extremely high shearing rates.  相似文献

This paper introduces an experiment to investigate dry sliding resistance of frictional interfaces at normal pressures up to 100 MPa, slip speeds up to 10 m/s and slip distances of approximately 10 mm. This new apparatus involves a novel modification of the conventional torsional Kolsky bar apparatus, employed extensively in the past for investigating high strain rate behavior of engineering materials. The new experimental configuration represents a significant improvement over conventional tribology experiments because it uses elastic torsional waves with a superimposed static compressive force to control the interfacial traction. Moreover, the apparatus allows critical frictional parameters such as the interfacial sliding resistance, slip speeds and slip without the use of transducers at the frictional interface. The usefulness of the device is demonstrated by presenting results of high-speed friction on 6061-T6 Al/1018 steel and Carpenter Hampden tool steel/7075-T6 Al tribo pairs.  相似文献

The thermo-mechanical responses of Al 6061 before and after equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) at different strain rates and temperatures were measured. Al 6061 was solution heat treated before ECAP pressing at room temperature and subjected to up to three passes. After pressing, the billets were aged at 100 °C for 2 days. An as-received Al 6061-T651 was studied similarly to investigate the differences between processed and non-processed specimens. The responses of ECAP material were determined at −30, 22, 125 and 250 °C, and at strain rates from 10−5 to 2530 s−1; the 6061-T651 specimens were subjected to uniaxial compressive loading at −31, 22, 85, 150, 230 and 315 °C, and strain rates ranging from 10−5 to 2200 s−1. It was found that, the ECAP process increases the strength versus the T651 condition. Additionally, the Al 6061 ECAP is not sensitive to strain rate at room and lower temperatures, but the sensitivity increases as the number of passes and/or temperature are increased and this is the same for the non-processed material. Increasing the number of passes increases the flow stress at room and lower temperatures, has almost no effect at 125 °C and decreases at 250 °C. For both materials, the dynamic flow stress is higher than the stress at quasi-static strain rates even when the quasi-static strain rate regime is insensitive to strain rate. The Al 6061 has strong texture after one pass but steadily increases as the number of passes are increased. This is the first study that reports on the thermo-mechanical responses of ECAP and non-ECAP Al 6061 at such a wide range of strain rates, including dynamic, and temperatures.  相似文献

Differently from most previous studies, the heat transfer and friction characteristics of the pure refrigerant HFC-134a during evaporation inside a vertical corrugated tube are experimentally investigated. The double tube test sections are 0.5 m long with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and heating water flowing in the annulus. The inner tubes are one smooth tube and two corrugated tubes, which are constructed from smooth copper tube of 8.7 mm inner diameter. The test runs are performed at evaporating temperatures of 10, 15, and 20 °C, heat fluxes of 20, 25, and 30 kW/m2, and mass fluxes of 200, 300, and 400 kg/m2 s. The quality of the refrigerant in the test section is calculated using the temperature and pressure obtained from the experiment. The pressure drop across the test section is measured directly by a differential pressure transducer. The effects of heat flux, mass flux, and evaporation temperature on the heat transfer coefficient and two-phase friction factor are also discussed. It is found that the percentage increases of the heat transfer coefficient and the two-phase friction factor of the corrugated tubes compared with those of the smooth tube are approximately 0-10% and 70-140%, respectively.  相似文献

本文考察了Ti3SiC2/PM304摩擦副从室温到630℃范围的摩擦磨损性能,并与Ni-Cr合金/PM304摩擦副的摩擦磨损性能进行了对比.结果表明:Ti3SiC2/PM304摩擦副具有比Ni-Cr合金/PM304摩擦副更好的摩擦磨损性能,特别是在400~630℃的温度范围内,Ti3SiC2/PM304摩擦副具有优异的摩擦磨损性能.从室温到300℃,Ti3SiC2/PM304摩擦副的磨损机制为Ti3SiC2晶粒拔出、脱落后与转移的PM304形成机械混合层,随着环境温度的升高机械混合作用加强.在400~630℃范围内,摩擦界面的机械混合作用受到显著抑制,在Ti3SiC2磨损表面形成富集银的转移润滑膜,而转移润滑膜的连续性对摩擦副的摩擦磨损性能影响较大.  相似文献

Microbubble and air film methods are believed to be applicable to skin friction reduction in ships. Small bubbles are dispersed into the turbulent boundary layer in the former case, and wide air layers cover the wall surface in the latter case. Previous studies did not specifically address the intermediate case between the microbubble and air film conditions. This study is concerned with the possibility and mechanism of drag reduction using relatively large air bubbles compared to the boundary layer thickness in a horizontal turbulent channel flow. The relationship between local skin friction and the bubble’s interfacial structure is investigated by synchronizing the measurement of wall-shear stress with the image acquisition of bubbles. The bubble sizes range from 2 to 90 mm approximately. As a result, a negative correlation between the local skin friction and the local void fraction is confirmed by the time-resolved measurement. A new observation is the fact that the local skin friction decreases drastically in the rear part of individual large bubbles, and rapidly increases after the bubble’s rear interface passes. This characteristic underlies the bubble-size dependency of the average skin friction in the intermediate bubble size condition.  相似文献

为研究AlCoCrFeNiCu高熵合金在强氧化的过氧化氢介质中的摩擦学性能,采用销盘磨损试验机测试了AlCoCrFeNiCu合金与3种工程陶瓷组成摩擦副在90%过氧化氢介质中的摩擦学性能,采用SEM、EDS、白光共焦显微镜等分析了磨损表面,并且探讨了高熵合金与3种陶瓷配副在高浓度过氧化氢中的磨损机理.结果表明:在高浓度过氧化氢中,AlCoCrFeNiCu合金与碳化硅和氮化硅陶瓷配副具有较低的摩擦系数和较小的磨损;AlCoCrFeNiCu/ZrO2摩擦副的主要磨损机制为黏着磨损和磨粒磨损,同时伴随有氧化磨损;AlCoCrFeNiCu/SiC摩擦副和AlCoCrFeNiCu/Si3N4摩擦副的主要磨损机制为抛光型氧化磨损并伴随有轻微的三体磨粒磨损;AlCoCrFeNiCu/Si3N4摩擦副还伴随有边界润滑效应.  相似文献

A pressure-shear plate impact experiment is introduced to study time-resolved friction at interfaces subjected to high sliding speeds under relatively high normal pressures. The conditions of slip at the interface are varied by changing the surface roughness of the impacting plates and by varying the applied normal to shear stress ratio. The configuration offers the simplicity of allowing the interpretation of the experimental data by using the frame-work of one-dimensional plane wave analysis. The interfacial material pairs investigated in the present study are comprised of a wear-resistant grade of tungsten carbide and either an AISI 4340 steel or a Ti-6AI-4V alloy. The experimental results indicate that the coefficient of friction increases with the increase in surface roughness of the tungsten-carbide plates and with cumulative slip at the interface.  相似文献

This paper presents a new framework to predict the qualitative and quantitative variation in local plastic anisotropy due to crystallographic texture in body-centered cubic polycrystals. A multiscale model was developed to examine the contribution of mesoscopic and local microscopic behaviour to the macroscopic constitutive response of bcc metals during deformation. The model integrated a dislocation-based hardening scheme and a Taylor-based crystal plasticity formulation into the subroutine of an explicit dynamic FEM code (LS-DYNA). Numerical analyses using this model were able to predict not only correct grain rotation during deformation, but variations in plastic anisotropy due to initial crystallographic orientation. Optimal results were obtained when {1 1 0}〈1 1 1〉, {1 1 2}〈1 1 1〉, and {1 2 3}〈1 1 1〉 slip systems were considered to be potentially active. The predicted material heterogeneity can be utilised for research involving any texture-dependent work hardening behaviour, such as surface roughening.  相似文献

To quantify the effects of interactions between various microstructure attributes on fatigue life in the high cycle fatigue (HCF) regime, we have proposed a new microstructure-sensitive extreme value statistical framework. This framework couples the extreme value distributions of certain fatigue indicator parameters (FIPs) or response functions to the correlated microstructure attributes that exist at the extreme value locations of these FIPs. We demonstrate the application of this statistical framework to investigate the microstructure-sensitive fatigue response of the PM Ni-base superalloy IN100 at 650 °C. To accomplish this task, we construct statistical volume elements (SVEs) used to compute the local response for 200 instantiations of IN100. These SVEs are constructed and simulated via the finite element method with crystal plasticity constitutive relations. The results of the simulations are used to explore extreme value statistics of the FIPs for these microstructures. The extreme value distributions of the Fatemi–Socie FIP are fit with high confidence by the Gumbel distribution and are defined in a representative nature with as few as 25 simulated microstructure instantiations (i.e., SVEs). The extreme value marked correlation functions of the apparent Schmid factor based on the geometry of the slip systems relative to the loading direction indicate that cube slip may be important to fatigue crack formation in this material system. This supports previous experimental observations of fatigue crack formation and microstructurally small fatigue crack growth along cube planes in IN100 in grains that are unfavorably oriented for octahedral slip at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

Determination of co-seismic slip resistance in earth faults is critical for understanding the magnitude of shear-stress reduction and hence the near-fault acceleration that can occur during earthquakes. Also, knowledge of shear resistance dependency on slip velocity, slip distance, normal stress, and surface roughness is fundamental information for understanding earthquake physics and the energy released during such events. In the present study, plate-impact pressure-shear friction experiments are employed to investigate the frictional resistance in fine-grained Arkansas novaculite rock and an analog material (soda-lime glass), under relevant interfacial conditions. The results of the experiments indicate that a wide range of frictional slip conditions can exist during a single slip event. These conditions range from initial no-slip followed by slip weakening, strengthening, and seizure at the frictional interface. For the case of glass vs. glass experiments, the first slip-weakening, with μ in the range of 0.4-0.2, is understood to be most likely due to thermal-induced flash heating and incipient melting at asperity junctions, while the slip-strengthening, with μ in the range of 0.1-0.4, is understood to be a result of coalescence and solidification of local melt patches. For the case of the fine grain Arkansas Novaculite rocks a similar range of slip conditions is observed.  相似文献

对非对称多孔介质--自由流复合通道内多孔介质内部及多孔介质与自由流体界面处复杂质量、动量输运特性进行研究. 在多孔介质区采用Brinkman-extended Darcy模型并结合速度连续,剪切应力跳跃的界面条件对此复合通道内流体的传递现象进行求解,提出了考虑界面应力跳跃时非对称复合通道各区域流体运动速度及摩擦系数的解析式,分析了界面应力跳跃系数,达西数及无量纲多孔层偏心厚度对流体速度及摩擦系数的影响. 结果表明:改变界面性质可在一定条件下明显控制各区域流体速度分布;在达西数、多孔层偏心厚度一定情况下,界面应力系数的增大会使界面流速减小,而使流体摩擦系数增大,特别是界面应力系数小于0的情况下变化更明显,此时若不考虑界面应力系数则会造成较大误差. 当界面应力系数及多孔层偏心厚度均为较小负数值时,改变多孔层偏心厚度对界面速度的影响要大于改变界面应力系数的情况;而当界面应力系数及多孔层偏心厚度为较大正数值时,情况则相反. 较大达西数下,界面应力系数及多孔层偏心厚度对流体摩擦系数的影响均较大,继续减小达西数至一定程度时,界面应力系数对流体摩擦系数的影响可忽略不计而认为只与多孔层偏心厚度相关,且对较大多孔层偏心厚度更敏感.   相似文献

Current research on nanocrystalline metals and nanoscale multilayer thin films suggests extraordinary plastic strength is due to confinement of slip to individual grains or layers. To assess the magnitude of confinement, a Peierls model of slip transmission of a screw dislocation across a coherent, non-slipping interface is presented. The results reflect that large interfacial barriers to transmission are generated by rapid fluctuations in dislocation line energy near the interface due to elastic modulus mismatch, stacking fault energy mismatch, and antiphase boundary energy for transmission into an ordered phase. Coherency stress is predicted to dramatically alter the dislocation core configuration and impart additional strength regardless of the sign. Contributions to strength are not additive due to nonlinear coupling via the dislocation core configuration. The predicted barrier strength for a coherent (0 0 1) Cu/Ni interface is comparable to atomistic (EAM) results but larger than estimates from hardness data.  相似文献

将断层简化为满足线性滑移弱化摩擦准则的理想裂纹界面。在考虑初始应力的条件下,研究了应力波通过两个相互接触的弹性半空间时的透射和反射关系。在此基础上,得出了应力波扰动断层时的初始滑移条件和不稳定滑移条件,并分析了断层动态触发与扰动应力波、断层特性和初始状态等因素的关系。当入射角一定时,入射波频率越高,所需振幅越大;断层的临界滑移越大,断层越稳定,扰动应力波所需振幅越大。  相似文献

The low-temperature (less than one-fourth of the melting temperature) creep deformation behavior of hexagonally close-packed (HCP) α-Ti–1.6 wt.% V was investigated. Creep tests were performed at various temperatures between room temperature and 205 °C at 95% of the respective yield stress at the different temperatures. The creep strain rate was found to increase with increasing temperature. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy revealed that slip and unusually slow twin growth, or time-dependent twinning, are active deformation mechanisms for the entire temperature range of this investigation. The activation energy for creep of this alloy was calculated to identify the rate-controlling deformation mechanism, and was found to increase with increasing creep strain. At low strain, the activation energy for creep was found to be close to the previously calculated activation energy for slip. At high strain, the calculated activation energy indicates that both slip and twinning are significant deformation mechanisms. The appearance of twinning at high strains is explained by a model for twin nucleation by dislocation pileups.  相似文献
