Fluorinated polymer particles with grafting sulfonate chains, which showed high dispersion stability in aqueous media, were synthesized by the crosslinking of block copolymer micelles. A crosslinkable block copolymer, poly[(2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene)‐co‐4‐(1‐methylsilacyclobutyl)styrene]‐b‐poly(neopentyl 4‐styrenesulfonate), composed of a statistical copolymer segment of 2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene with 4‐(1‐methylsilacyclobutyl)styrene and a neopentyl 4‐styrenesulfonate segment, was prepared by the nitroxy‐mediated living radical polymerization of a 2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene/4‐(1‐methylsilacyclobutyl)styrene mixture and neopentyl 4‐styrenesulfonate. The block copolymer formed micelles with a poly[(2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene)‐co‐4‐(1‐methylsilacyclobutyl)styrene] core in acetonitrile, which were crosslinked via the ring‐opening reaction of silacyclobutyl groups in the core by a treatment with a platinum catalyst. The deprotection of sulfonate groups in the micelle corona by exposure to trimethylsilyl iodide and a treatment with aqueous HCl, followed by neutralization with aqueous NaOH, provided a polymer particle with polymer chains of sodium 4‐styrenesulfonate grafted on its surface. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carbosilane fine particles were synthesized by core‐crosslinking of carbosilane block copolymer micelles and they were pyrolytically transformed into silica nanoparticles. The carbosilane block copolymer, poly(1‐(3‐butenyl)‐1‐methylsilacyclobutane)‐block‐polystyrene, (polyBMSB‐b‐polySt), [(m, n) = (31, 16), (54, 30), and (75, 28)], was synthesized by anionic polymerization of BMSB and St, where m and n represent polymerization degrees of BMSB and St segments, respectively. The block copolymer formed micelles in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF). The hydrodynamic diameters (Dh) of the micelles evaluated by dynamic light scattering ranged from 40 to 158 nm depending on the copolymer molecular weight. The core of the micelle was cross‐linked by Pt‐catalyzed hydrosilation with 1,2‐bis(dimethylsilylethane). The Dh of the core‐cross‐linked micelles in THF ranged from 56 to 164 nm. These precursor particles were pyrolyzed at 850 °C under N2 to give ceramic nanoparticles. The diameters of the spherical ceramic particles estimated by AFM ranged from 25 to 60 nm. X‐ray fluorescence analysis of the ceramic products revealed that it consisted of mainly SiO2 rather than SiC. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of structurally controllable poly(lauryl methacrylate)-b-poly[N-(2-methacryloylxyethyl)pyrrolidone], PLMA-b-PNMP, diblock copolymers were synthesized by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. The self-assembly behaviors of PLMA-b-PNMP in a selective solvent, tetrahydrofuran (THF), were studied by employing static light scattering, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy in detail. The relationships between the aggregation parameters, such as critical micelle concentration and the aggregation number (N agg), and the molecular structure were established. It was found that spherical micelles can be formed once the solvophobic block length of poly[N-(2-methacryloylxyethyl)pyrrolidone] is larger than 215. Moreover, extremely small and monodisperse gold nanoparticles (<2 nm) were synthesized by employing PLMA-b-PNMP diblock copolymers in THF.  相似文献

A series of tadpole-shaped block-graft amphiphilic copolymers, i.e., block copolymers consisting of a cylindrical hydrophilic brush block and a coiled hydrophobic block were synthesized using “grafting-through” atom transfer radical polymerization. A tadpole-shaped block-graft copolymer from polystyrene bromide and a methacryloyl-terminated poly(tert-butyl acrylate) was prepared first. Then, hydrolysis of the poly(tert-butyl acrylate) side chains to polyacrylic acid side chains provided tadpole-shaped block-graft amphiphilic copolymers, which formed pH responsive micelles in water, the latter being confirmed by dynamic light scattering and atomic force microscopy.  相似文献

Amphiphilic triblock copolymers of poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA-b-PEO-b-PMMA) with well-defined structure were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) initiated by the PEO macroinitiator. The macroinitiator and triblock copolymer with different PMMA and/or PEO block lengths were characterized with 1H and 13C NMR and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The micelle formed by these triblock copolymers in aqueous solutions was detected by fluorescence excitation and emission spectra of pyrene probe. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) ranged from 0.0019 to 0.016 mg/mL and increased with increasing PMMA block length, while the PEO block length had less effect on the CMC. The partition constant Kv for pyrene in the micelle and in aqueous solution was about 105. The triblock copolymer appeared to form the micelles with hydrophobic PMMA core and hydrophilic PEO loop chain corona. The hydrodynamic radius Rh,app of the micelle measured with dynamic light scattering (DLS) ranged from 17.3 to 24.0 nm and increased with increasing PEO block length to form thicker corona. The spherical shape of the micelle of the triblock copolymers was observed with an atomic force microscope (AFM). Increasing hydrophobic PMMA block length effectively promoted the micelle formation in aqueous solutions, but the micelles were stable even only with short PMMA blocks.  相似文献

Homopolymers of tbutyl acrylate (PtBuA) and a monosubstituted acrylamide (PAM) having an amino acid moiety in the side chain, N‐acryloyl‐(L )‐phenylalanine methyl ester 1 , have been synthesized by Reversible Addition‐Fragmentation Chain Transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Diblock copolymers of these homopolymers were also synthesized by chain extending PtBuA with monomer 1 and after modification, using simple acid deprotection chemistries of the acrylate block to afford a poly (acrylic acid) block, an optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymer was isolated. The optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymers, which contain chiral amino acid moieties within the hydrophobic segment, were then self‐assembled to afford spherical micelles which were subsequently crosslinked throughout the shell layer to afford robust chiral nanoparticles. The hydrodynamic diameters (Dh) of the block copolymer micelles and nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and the dimensions of the nanoparticles were determined using tapping‐mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study reports the synthesis of poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether‐block‐poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (MPEG‐b‐PGMA) diblock, and poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether‐block‐poly(glycidyl methacrylate)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (MPEG‐b‐PGMA‐b‐PMMA) triblock copolymers via atom transfer radical polymerization and their self‐assembly behaviors in aqueous media by using acetone as cosolvent. These block copolymers formed near monodisperse core–shell micelles having cross‐linkable cores. Two types of cross‐linked micelles, namely spherical MPEG‐b‐PGMA core cross‐linked (CCL) micelles and MPEG‐b‐PGMA‐b‐PMMA interlayer cross‐linked (ILCL) micelles, were also successfully prepared from these block copolymers by using various bifunctional cross‐linkers such as hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), ethylenediamine (EDA), and 2‐aminoethanethiol (AET). Cross‐linking was successfully carried out via ring‐opening reactions of epoxy residues of hydrophobic‐cores with primary amine or thiol groups of bifunctional cross‐linkers. Finally, these cross‐linked micelles were successfully used as nanoreactors in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in aqueous media. Both CCL and ILCL micelles were found to be good stabilizers for AuNPs in aqueous media. Both CCL‐ and ILCL‐stabilized AuNP dispersions were stable for a long time without any size changes and flocculation at room temperature. These cross‐linked stabilized AuNPs exhibited good catalytic activities in the reduction of p‐nitrophenol. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. New micelle‐like organic supports for single site catalysts based on the self‐assembly of polystyrene‐b‐poly(4‐vinylbenzoic acid) block copolymers have been designed. These block copolymers were synthesized by sequential atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene and methyl 4‐vinylbenzoate, followed by hydrolysis. As evidenced by dynamic light scattering, self‐assembly in toluene that is a selective solvent of polystyrene, induced the formation of micelle‐like nanoparticles composed of a poly(4‐vinylbenzoic acid) core and a polystyrene corona. Further addition of trimethylaluminium (TMA) afforded in situ MAO‐like species by diffusion of TMA into the core of the micelles and its subsequent reaction with the benzoic acid groups. Such reactive micelles then served as nanoreactors, MAO‐like species being efficient activators of 2,6‐bis[1‐{(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)imino}ethyl]pyridinyl iron toward ethylene polymerization. These new micelle‐like organic supports enabled the production of polyethylene beads with a spherical morphology and a high bulk density through homogeneous‐like catalysis. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well-defined poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) was synthesised by nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization using the BlocBuilder MAMA-SG1. The controlled character of the polymerization was confirmed by kinetic measurements and linear increase of the molar mass with monomer conversion. Poly(4-vinylpyridine) terminated with SG1 was then used as macroinitiator and chain extended to form poly(4-vinylpyridine-b-methyl methacrylate) and poly(4-vinylpyridine-b-(methyl methacrylate-co-styrene)) block copolymers. These block copolymers spontaneously organized into spherical inverse micelles in THF with critical micelle concentrations of 0.1 mg/mL for poly(4VP190-b-MMA91) and 0.01 mg/mL for poly(4VP190-b-(MMA57-co-S18)) and sizes of 70 and 130 nm (DLS), respectively. The inverse micelles were loaded with copper(II)acetate leading to a slight increase in micelle size. The uniform structure of the inverse micelles was confirmed by FeSEM images, while the presence of copper in the micelle core was established by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and FTIR spectroscopy.  相似文献

Poly(acrylic acid-b-styrene) (PAA-b-PS) amphiphilic block copolymers were synthesized by consecutive telomerization of tert-butyl acrylate, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene, and hydrolysis. The resulting block copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR and GPC. These amphiphilic block copolymeric micelles were prepared by dialysis against water. Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) and laser particle sizer measurements were used to determine the morphology and size of these micelles. The results showed that these amphiphilic block copolymers formed spherical micelles with average size of 140–190?nm. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the kinetic stability of these micelles were investigated by fluorescence technique, using pyrene as a fluorescence probe. The observed CMC value was in the range of 0.075–0.351?mg/L. Kinetic stability studies showed that the stability of micelles increased with the decrease of the pH value of the solution.  相似文献

Summary: The bis‐hydrophilic block copolymer, poly(acrylic acid)45block‐poly(N,N‐diethylacrylamide)360, was obtained after hydrolysis of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)45block‐poly(N,N‐diethylacrylamide)360, synthesized by sequential anionic polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) and N,N‐diethylacrylamide (DEAAm) in the presence of Et3Al. The polymer is stimuli‐sensitive with respect to both pH and temperature in aqueous solution, reversibly forming spherical crew‐cut micelles with PDEAAm‐core (〈Rhz = 21.5 nm) under alkaline conditions for T > 35 °C as well as inverse star‐like micelles with an expanded PAA‐core (〈Rhz = 43.8 nm) under acidic conditions for T < 35 °C, as indicated by dynamic light scattering.

Polystyrene‐block‐poly(2‐vinyl pyridine)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) ABC triblock copolymers were synthesized by sequential living anionic polymerization. Their solution properties were investigated in toluene, which is a bad solvent for the middle block. Spherical micelles are formed, which consist of a poly(2‐vinyl pyridine) dense core bearing polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) soluble chains at the corona. These micelles exhibit the architecture of heteroarm star copolymers obtained by “living” polymerization methods. The aggregation numbers strongly depend on the length of the insoluble P2VP middle block, thus remarkably affecting the size of the micelles.  相似文献

A systematic study of formation of surface patterns in block copolymer thin layers after their exposure to solvent vapors was performed. The studied effect involves layers of thickness approximately equal to the ordering size of polymers - about 45 nm. Experiments were performed on three styrene - methacrylate derivative block copolymers, synthesized by living anionic polymerization: poly(4-octylstyrene)-block-poly(butyl methacrylate), poly(4-fluorostyrene)-block-poly(butyl methacrylate) and poly(p-octylstyrene)-block-poly(methyl methacrylate). The polymers were exposed to vapors of chloroform, 1,4-dioxane, hexane, acetone and tetrahydrofuran.  相似文献

Biodegradable and amphiphilic triblock copolymers poly(ethyl ethylene phosphate)-poly(3-hydroxy-butyrate)-poly(ethyl ethylene phosphate) (PEEP-b-PHB-b-PEEP) have been successfully synthesized through ring-opening polymerization. The structures are confirmed by gel permeation chromatography and NMR analyses. Crystallization investigated by X-ray diffraction reveals that the block copolymer with higher content of poly(ethyl ethylene phosphate) (PEEP) is more amorphous, showing decreased crystallizability. The obtained copolymers self-assemble into biodegradable nanoparticles with a core-shell micellar structure in aqueous solution, verified by the probe-based fluorescence measurements and transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) observation. The hydrophobic poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) block serves as the core of the micelles and the micelles are stabilized by the hydrophilic PEEP block. The size and size distribution are related to the compositions of the copolymers. Paclitaxel (PTX) has been encapsulated into the micelles as a model drug and a sustained drug release from the micelles is observed. MTT assay also demonstrates that the block copolymers are biocompatible, rendering these copolymers attractive for drug delivery. For the preparation of core‐shell nanoparticles containing functional nanomaterials, a photo‐cross‐linkable amphiphilic ABC triblock copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(2‐cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PEG‐PCEMA‐PMMA), was synthesized. This triblock copolymer was then used to encapsulate Au nanoparticles or pyrene. The triblock copolymer of PEG‐b‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate)‐b‐PMMA (PEG‐PHEMA‐PMMA) (Mn = 15,800 g/mol, Mw/Mn = 1.58) was first synthesized by activators generated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization. Its middle block was then functionalized with cinnamoyl chloride. The degrees of polymerization of the PEG, PHEMA, and PMMA blocks were 45, 13, and 98, respectively. PMMA‐tethered Au nanoparticles (with an average diameter of 3.0 nm) or pyrene was successfully encapsulated within the PEG‐PCEMA‐PMMA micelles. The intermediary layers of the micelles were then cross‐linked by UV irradiation. The spherical structures of the PEG‐PCEMA‐PMMA micelles containing Au nanoparticles or pyrene were not changed by the photo‐cross‐linking process and they showed excellent colloidal stability. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2-Dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and 2-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DEAEMA) block copolymers have been synthesized by using poly(ethylene glycol), poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTHF) and poly(ethylene butylenes) macroinitiators with copper mediated living radical polymerization. The use of difunctional macroinitiator gave ABA block copolymers with narrow polydispersities (PDI) and controlled number average molecular weights (Mn’s). By using DMAEMA, polymerizations proceed with excellent first order kinetics indicative of well-controlled living polymerization. Online 1H NMR monitoring has been used to investigate the polymerization of DEAEMA. The first order kinetic plots for the polymerization of DEAMA showed two different rate regimes ascribed to an induction period which is not observed for DMAEMA. ABA triblock copolymers with DMAEMA as the A blocks and PTHF or PBD as B blocks leads to amphiphilic block copolymers with Mn’s between 22 and 24 K (PDI 1.24-1.32) which form aggregates/micelles in solution. The critical aggregation concentrations, as determined by pyrene fluorimetry, are 0.07 and 0.03 g dm−1 for PTHF- and PBD-containing triblocks respectively.  相似文献

The synthesis, micelle formation, and bulk properties of semifluorinated amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(pentafluorostyrene)‐g‐cubic polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS) hybrid copolymers is reported. The synthesis of amphiphilic PEG‐b‐PPFS block copolymers are achieved using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) at 100 °C in trifluorotoluene using modified poly(ethylene glycol) as a macroinitiator. Subsequently, a proportion of the reactive para‐F functionality on the pentafluorostyrene units was replaced with aminopropylisobutyl POSS through aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions. The products were fully characterized by 1H‐NMR and GPC. The products, PEG‐b‐PPFS and PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS, were subsequently self‐assembled in aqueous solutions to form micellar structures. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc) were estimated using two different techniques: fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The cmc was found to decrease concomitantly with the number of POSS particles grafted per copolymer chain. The hydrodynamic particle sizes (Rh) of the micelles, calculated from DLS data, increase as the number of POSS molecules grafted per copolymer chain increases. For example, Rh increased from ~60 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS to ~80 nm for PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS25 (25 is the average number of POSS particles grafted copolymer chain). Static light scattering (SLS) data confirm that the formation of larger micelles by higher POSS containing copolymers results from higher aggregation numbers (Nagg), caused by increased hydrophobicity. The Rg/Rh values, where Rg is the radius of gyration calculated from SLS data, are consistent with a spherical particle model having a core‐shell structure. Thermal characterization by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) reveals that the grafted POSS acts as a plasticizer; the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the PPFS block in the copolymer decreases significantly with increasing POSS content. Finally, the rhombohedral crystal structure of POSS in PEG‐b‐PPFS‐g‐POSS was verified by wide angle X‐ray diffraction measurements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphilic triblock copolymers with varying ratios of hydrophilic poly[bis (methoxyethoxyethoxy)phosphazene] (MEEP) and relatively hydrophobic poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) blocks were synthesized via the controlled cationic‐induced living polymerization of a phosphoranimine (Cl3P?NSiMe3) at ambient temperature. A PPG block can function as either a classical hydrophobic block or a less hydrophobic component by varying the nature of a phosphazene block. The aqueous phase behavior of MEEP‐PPG‐MEEP block copolymers was investigated using fluorescence techniques, TEM, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The critical micelle concentrations (cmcs) of MEEP‐PPG‐MEEP block copolymers were determined to be in the range of 3.7–16.8 mg/L. The mean diameters of MEEP‐PPG‐MEEP polymeric micelles, measured by DLS, were between 31 and 44 nm. The equilibrium constants of pyrene in these micelles ranged from 4.7 × 104 to 9.6 × 104. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 692–699, 2009  相似文献

Amphiphilic block copolymers, methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(valerolactone) (mPEG-b-PVL), were synthesized via ring opening polymerization of δ-valerolactone in the presence of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG). The copolymers form micelle-like nanoparticles by their amphiphilic characteristics and their structures were examined by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The sizes of nanoparticles ranged from 60 to 120 nm as measured by dynamic light scattering detection, and were larger with higher molecular weight of the copolymers. The Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) of these nanoparticles in water decreased with increasing molecular weight of hydrophobic segment. Stability analysis showed that the micellar solutions maintain their sizes at 37 °C for six weeks without aggregation or dissociation. The lyophilization method was better than the evaporation method when camptothecin (CPT) was incorporated to the micelles. The former method yielded higher CPT loading efficiency and lower aggregation. The loading efficiency of CPT could be more than 96% and a steady release rate of CPT was kept for twenty six days. Moreover, the mPEG-b-PVL polymeric micelles offered good protection of CPT lactone form at 37 °C for sixteen days. The copolymers showed no cytotoxicity towards L929 mouse muscular cells when incubated for one day. Taken together, the mPEG-b-PVL copolymer has potential to be used for the delivery of CPT or other similar drugs.  相似文献

This study synthesized thermo‐sensitive amphiphilic block‐graft PNiPAAm‐b‐(PαN3CL‐g‐alkyne) copolymers through ring‐opening polymerization of α‐chloro‐ε‐caprolactone (αClCL) with hydroxyl‐terminated macroinitiator poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNiPAAm), substituting pendent chlorides with sodium azide. This was then used to graft various kinds of terminal alkynes moieties by means of the copper‐catalyzed Huisgen's 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition (“click” reaction). 1H NMR, FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) was used to characterize these copolymers. The solubility of the block‐graft copolymers in aqueous media was investigated using turbidity measurement, revealing a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in the polymers. These solutions showed reversible changes in optical properties: transparent below the LCST, and opaque above the LCST. The LCST values were dependant on the composition of the polymer. With critical micelle concentrations (CMCs) in the range of 2.04–9.77 mg L?1, the block copolymers formed micelles in the aqueous phase, owing to their amphiphilic characteristics. An increase in the length of hydrophobic segments or a decrease in the length of hydrophilic segments amphiphilic block‐graft copolymers produced lower CMC values. The research verified the core‐shell structure of micelles by 1H NMR analyses in D2O. Transmission electron microscopy was used to analyze the morphology of the micelles, revealing a spherical structure. The average size of the micelles was in the range of 75–145 nm (blank), and 105–190 nm (with drug). High drug entrapment efficiency and drug loading content were observed in the drug micelles. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献
