In [W.J. Layton, A connection between subgrid scale eddy viscosity and mixed methods, Appl. Math. Comput. 133 (2002) 147-157], a variationally consistent eddy viscosity discretization is given for the stationary convection diffusion equation. We further develop this discretization to include the time-dependent problem. We give comprehensive stability and error analysis of the semi-discrete case. We also state the stability and error results for the fully discrete algorithm with a Crank-Nicholson time discretization. The error bound is near optimal and independent of the diffusion coefficient, ?. Finally, we give guidance on optimal parameter selection for some common finite element spaces.  相似文献

The forced convection thermal boundary layer in a porous medium as an analytically tractable special case of a mixed convection problem is considered. It is shown that some general features of the mixed convection solutions reported recently by other authors [B. Brighi, J.-D. Hoernel, On the concave and convex solutions of mixed convection boundary layer approximation in a porous medium, Appl. Math. Lett. (published online, 2005); M. Guedda, Multiple solutions of mixed convection boundary layer approximations in a porous medium, Appl. Math. Lett. In this study, a fully discrete defect correction finite element method for the unsteady incompressible Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations, which is leaded by combining the Back Euler time discretization with the two-step defect correction in space, is presented. It is a continuous work of our formal paper [Math Method Appl Sci. 2017. DOI:10.1002/mma.4296]. The defect correction method is an iterative improvement technique for increasing the accuracy of a numerical solution without applying a grid refinement. Firstly, the nonlinear MHD equation is solved with an artificial viscosity term. Then, the numerical solutions are improved on the same grid by a linearized defect-correction technique. Then, we introduce the numerical analysis including stability analysis and error analysis. The numerical analysis proves that our method is stable and has an optimal convergence rate. Some numerical results [see Math Method Appl Sci. 2017. DOI:10.1002/mma.4296] show that this method is highly efficient for the unsteady incompressible MHD problems.  相似文献

A priori error estimates in the H1- and L2-norms are established for the finite element method applied to the exterior Helmholtz problem, with modified Dirichlet-to-Neumann (MDtN) boundary condition. The error estimates include the effect of truncation of the MDtN boundary condition as well as that of discretization of the finite element method. The error estimate in the L2-norm is sharper than that obtained by the author [D. Koyama, Error estimates of the DtN finite element method for the exterior Helmholtz problem, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 200 (1) (2007) 21-31] for the truncated DtN boundary condition.  相似文献

In this work, we deal with the numerical study of the new approximation method proposed in [7] for a transient flow problem in porous media. The stationary problem, obtained from a time discretization of this transient problem, is considered as an optimal shape design formulation. We prove the existence of the solution of the discrete optimal shape problem obtained from finite element discretization. We study the convergence and give numerical results showing the efficiency of the proposed approach.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the finite element discretization of the Navier‐Stokes problem coupled with convection‐diffusion equations where both the viscosity and the diffusion coefficients depend on the temperature. We analyze the mean-square (MS) stability properties of a newly introduced adaptive time-stepping stochastic Runge–Kutta method which relies on two local error estimators based on drift and diffusion terms of the equation [A. Foroush Bastani, S.M. Hosseini, A new adaptive Runge–Kutta method for stochastic differential equations, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 206 (2007) 631–644]. In the same spirit as [H. Lamba, T. Seaman, Mean-square stability properties of an adaptive time-stepping SDE solver, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 194 (2006) 245–254] and with applying our adaptive scheme to a standard linear multiplicative noise test problem, we show that the MS stability region of the adaptive method strictly contains that of the underlying stochastic differential equation. Some numerical experiments confirms the validity of the theoretical results.  相似文献

Problems related to combustion fronts in porous media have been studied by many authors recently, see e.g. [Y. Akkutlu, Y.C. Math. 62 (2002) 2175–2198; D.A. Schult, B.J. Matkowsky, V.A. Volpert, A.C. Fernandez-Pello, Forced forward smolder combustion, Combust. Flame 104 (1996) 1–26]. Most of this interest is due to the combustion process for oil recovery.In this paper we construct monotone iteractions for a Cauchy problem arising from a combustion model in a porous medium derived in [J.C. da Mota, S. Schecter, Combustion fronts in a porous medium with two layers, J. Dynam. Differential Equations 18 (3) (2006) 615–665]. We conclude that the monotone iteractions converge to a unique solution of this Cauchy problem, globally in time.  相似文献

In this paper, we will introduce the generalized operator equilibrium problem and generalized operator quasi-equilibrium problem which generalize the operator equilibrium problem due to Kazmi and Raouf [K.R. Kazmi, A. Raouf, A class of operator equilibrium problems, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 308 (2005) 554-564] into multi-valued and quasi-equilibrium problems. Using a Fan-Browder type fixed point theorem in [S. Park, Foundations of the KKM theory via coincidences of composites of upper semicontinuous maps, J. Korean Math. Soc. 31 (1994) 493-519] and an existence theorem of equilibrium for 1-person game in [X.-P. Ding, W.K. Kim, K.-K. Tan, Equilibria of non-compact generalized games with L-majorized preferences, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 164 (1992) 508-517] as basic tools, we prove new existence theorems on generalized operator equilibrium problem and generalized operator quasi-equilibrium problem which includes operator equilibrium problems.  相似文献

In this short note we discuss certain similarities between some three-point methods for solving nonlinear equations. In particular, we show that the recent three-point method published in [R. Thukral, A new eighth-order iterative method for solving nonlinear equations, Appl. Math. Comput. 217 (2010) 222-229] is a special case of the family of three-point methods proposed previously in [R. The three‐dimensional displacement of two‐phase flow in porous media is a preliminary problem of numerical simulation of energy science and mathematics. The mathematical model is formulated by a nonlinear system of partial differential equations to describe incompressible miscible case. The pressure is defined by an elliptic equation, and the concentration is defined by a convection‐dominated diffusion equation. The pressure generates Darcy velocity and controls the dynamic change of concentration. We adopt a conservative block‐centered scheme to approximate the pressure and Darcy velocity, and the accuracy of Darcy velocity is improved one order. We use a block‐centered upwind multistep method to solve the concentration, where the time derivative is approximated by multistep method, and the diffusion term and convection term are treated by a block‐centered scheme and an upwind scheme, respectively. The composite algorithm is effective to solve such a convection‐dominated problem, since numerical oscillation and dispersion are avoided and computational accuracy is improved. Block‐centered method is conservative, and the concentration and the adjoint function are computed simultaneously. This physical nature is important in numerical simulation of seepage fluid. Using the convergence theory and techniques of priori estimates, we derive optimal estimate error. Numerical experiments and data show the support and consistency of theoretical result. The argument in the present paper shows a powerful tool to solve the well‐known model problem.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to establish some theorems on convergence of a sequence in complete metric spaces. As applications, some results of Ghosh and Debnath [J. Math. Anal. Based on a new generalization of discrete Gronwall inequality in [L. Tao, H. Appl. 282 (2003) 56-62], Navot's quadrature rule for computing integrals with the end point singularity in [I. Navot, A further extension of Euler-Maclaurin summation formula, J. Math. Phys. 41 (1962) 155-184] and a transformation in [P. Baratella, A. Palamara Orsi, A new approach to the numerical solution of weakly singular Volterra integral equations, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 163 (2004) 401-418], a new quadrature method for solving nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integral equations of the second kind is presented. The convergence of the approximation solution and the asymptotic expansion of the error are proved, so by means of the extrapolation technique we not only obtain a higher accuracy order of the approximation but also get a posteriori estimate of the error.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a composite iterative scheme by viscosity approximation method for finding a zero of an accretive operator in Banach spaces. Then, we establish strong convergence theorems for the composite iterative scheme. The main theorems improve and generalize the recent corresponding results of Kim and Xu [T.H. Kim, H.K. In [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 41 (1981) 70-93], Majda proposed a model for the interaction between chemical reactions and compressible fluid dynamics. This model is a low Mach number limit of the one-component reactive Navier-Stokes equations [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 43 (1983) 1086-1118] and was extended to the case where the diffusion coefficient is positive by Larrouturou [Nonlinear Anal. 77 (2001) 405-418]. In this paper, the existence of a one-dimensional Chapman-Jouguet detonation wave, or equivalently a heteroclinic orbit, for the extended model is proven. The proof is based on an application of topological arguments to a system of ordinary differential equations which is obtained from the partial differential equations describing the interaction.  相似文献

Two-phase miscible flow in porous media is governed by a system of nonlinear partial differential equations. In this paper, the upwind-mixed method on dynamically changing meshes is presented for the problem in two dimensions. The pressure is approximated by a mixed finite element method and the concentration by a method which upwinds the convection and incorporates diffusion using an expanded mixed finite element method. The method developed is shown to obtain almost optimal rate error estimate. When the method is modified we can obtain the optimal rate error estimate that is well known for static meshes. The modification of the scheme is the construction of a linear approximation to the solution, which is used in projecting the solution from one mesh to another. Finally, numerical experiments are given.  相似文献

We prove stability estimates and derive optimal convergence rates for the streamline diffusion and discontinuous Galerkin finite element methods for discretization of the multi‐dimensional Vlasov‐Fokker‐Planck system. The focus is on the theoretical aspects, where we deal with construction and convergence analysis of the discretization schemes. Some related special cases are implemented in M. In this paper, we extend the one-parametric class of merit functions proposed by Kanzow and Kleinmichel [C. Kanzow, H. Kleinmichel, A new class of semismooth Newton-type methods for nonlinear complementarity problems, Comput. Optim. Appl. 11 (1998) 227-251] for the nonnegative orthant complementarity problem to the general symmetric cone complementarity problem (SCCP). We show that the class of merit functions is continuously differentiable everywhere and has a globally Lipschitz continuous gradient mapping. From this, we particularly obtain the smoothness of the Fischer-Burmeister merit function associated with symmetric cones and the Lipschitz continuity of its gradient. In addition, we also consider a regularized formulation for the class of merit functions which is actually an extension of one of the NCP function classes studied by [C. Kanzow, Y. Yamashita, M. Fukushima, New NCP functions and their properties, J. Optim. Theory Appl. 97 (1997) 115-135] to the SCCP. By exploiting the Cartesian P-properties for a nonlinear transformation, we show that the class of regularized merit functions provides a global error bound for the solution of the SCCP, and moreover, has bounded level sets under a rather weak condition which can be satisfied by the monotone SCCP with a strictly feasible point or the SCCP with the joint Cartesian R02-property. All of these results generalize some recent important works in [J.-S. Chen, P. Tseng, An unconstrained smooth minimization reformulation of the second-order cone complementarity problem, Math. Program. 104 (2005) 293-327; C.-K. Sim, J. Sun, D. Ralph, A note on the Lipschitz continuity of the gradient of the squared norm of the matrix-valued Fischer-Burmeister function, Math.
