Various properties of isoperimetric, functional, Transport-Entropy and concentration inequalities are studied on a Riemannian manifold equipped with a measure, whose generalized Ricci curvature is bounded from below. First, stability of these inequalities with respect to perturbation of the measure is obtained. The extent of the perturbation is measured using several different distances between perturbed and original measure, such as a one-sided L bound on the ratio between their densities, Wasserstein distances, and Kullback–Leibler divergence. In particular, an extension of the Holley–Stroock perturbation lemma for the log-Sobolev inequality is obtained, and the dependence on the perturbation parameter is improved from linear to logarithmic. Second, the equivalence of Transport-Entropy inequalities with different cost-functions is verified, by obtaining a reverse Jensen type inequality. The main tool used is a previous precise result on the equivalence between concentration and isoperimetric inequalities in the described setting. Of independent interest is a new dimension independent characterization of Transport-Entropy inequalities with respect to the 1-Wasserstein distance, which does not assume any curvature lower bound.  相似文献

Optimal higher-order Sobolev type embeddings are shown to follow via isoperimetric inequalities. This establishes a higher-order analogue of a well-known link between first-order Sobolev embeddings and isoperimetric inequalities. Sobolev type inequalities of any order, involving arbitrary rearrangement-invariant norms, on open sets in RnRn, possibly endowed with a measure density, are reduced to much simpler one-dimensional inequalities for suitable integral operators depending on the isoperimetric function of the relevant sets. As a consequence, the optimal target space in the relevant Sobolev embeddings can be determined both in standard and in non-standard classes of function spaces and underlying measure spaces. In particular, our results are applied to any-order Sobolev embeddings in regular (John) domains of the Euclidean space, in Maz'ya classes of (possibly irregular) Euclidean domains described in terms of their isoperimetric function, and in families of product probability spaces, of which the Gauss space is a classical instance.  相似文献

We obtain new sharp isoperimetric inequalities on a Riemannian manifold equipped with a probability measure, whose generalized Ricci curvature is bounded from below (possibly negatively), and generalized dimension and diameter of the convex support are bounded from above (possibly infinitely). Our inequalities are sharp for sets of any given measure and with respect to all parameters (curvature, dimension and diameter). Moreover, for each choice of parameters, we identify the model spaces which are extremal for the isoperimetric problem. In particular, we recover the Gromov–Lévy and Bakry–Ledoux isoperimetric inequalities, which state that whenever the curvature is strictly positively bounded from below, these model spaces are the n-sphere and Gauss space, corresponding to generalized dimension being n and ∞, respectively. In all other cases, which seem new even for the classical Riemannian-volume measure, it turns out that there is no single model space to compare to, and that a simultaneous comparison to a natural one parameter family of model spaces is required, nevertheless yielding a sharp result.  相似文献

In this paper we study U-bounds in relation to L1-type coercive inequalities and isoperimetric problems for a class of probability measures on a general metric space (RN,d). We prove the equivalence of an isoperimetric inequality with several other coercive inequalities in this general framework. The usefulness of our approach is illustrated by an application to the setting of H-type groups, and an extension to infinite dimensions.  相似文献

We study the notion of reverse hypercontractivity. We show that reverse hypercontractive inequalities are implied by standard hypercontractive inequalities as well as by the modified log-Sobolev inequality. Our proof is based on a new comparison lemma for Dirichlet forms and an extension of the Stroock–Varopoulos inequality. A consequence of our analysis is that all simple operators ${L = Id - \mathbb{E}}$ as well as their tensors satisfy uniform reverse hypercontractive inequalities. That is, for all q < p < 1 and every positive valued function f for ${t \geq \log \frac{1-q}{1-p}}$ we have ${\| e^{-tL}f\|_{q} \geq \| f\|_{p}}$ . This should be contrasted with the case of hypercontractive inequalities for simple operators where t is known to depend not only on p and q but also on the underlying space. The new reverse hypercontractive inequalities established here imply new mixing and isoperimetric results for short random walks in product spaces, for certain card-shufflings, for Glauber dynamics in high-temperatures spin systems as well as for queueing processes. The inequalities further imply a quantitative Arrow impossibility theorem for general product distributions and inverse polynomial bounds in the number of players for the non-interactive correlation distillation problem with m-sided dice.  相似文献

This Note is devoted to the proof of convex Sobolev (or generalized Poincaré) inequalities which interpolate between spectral gap (or Poincaré) inequalities and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We extend to the whole family of convex Sobolev inequalities results which have recently been obtained by Cattiaux, and Carlen and Loss for logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. Under local conditions on the density of the measure with respect to a reference measure, we prove that spectral gap inequalities imply all convex Sobolev inequalities including in the limit case corresponding to the logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. Let G be a simply connected domain and let u(x,G) be its warping function. We prove that L p -norms of functions u and u ?1 are monotone with respect to the parameter p. This monotony also gives isoperimetric inequalities for norms that correspond to different values of the parameter p. The main result of this paper is a generalization of classical isoperimetric inequalities of St.Venant-Pólya and the Payne inequalities.  相似文献

This paper consists of two halves. In the first half of the paper, we consider real-valued functions f whose domain is the vertex set of a graph G and that are Lipschitz with respect to the graph distance. By placing a uniform distribution on the vertex set, we treat as a random variable. We investigate the link between the isoperimetric function of G and the functions f that have maximum variance or meet the bound established by the subgaussian inequality. We present several results describing the extremal functions, and use those results to (a) resolve a conjecture by Bobkov, Houdré, and Tetali characterizing the extremal functions of the subgaussian inequality of the odd cycle and (b) provide a construction that gives a partial negative answer to a question by Alon, Boppana, and Spencer on the relationship between maximum variance functions and the isoperimetric function of product graphs. While establishing a discrete analogue of the curved Brunn-Minkowski inequality for the discrete hypercube, Ollivier and Villani suggested several avenues for research. We resolve them in the second half of the paper as follows:
  • They propose that a bound on t-midpoints can be obtained by repeated application of the bound on midpoints, if the original sets are convex. We construct a specific example where this reasoning fails, and then prove our construction is general by characterizing the convex sets in the discrete hypercube.
  • A second proposed technique to bound t-midpoints involves new results in concentration of measure. We follow through on this proposal, with heavy use on results from the first half of the paper.
  • We show that the curvature of the discrete hypercube is not positive or zero, but we also give a result indicating that it may satisfy a weaker version of curvature.

A general Sobolev type inequality is introduced and studied for general symmetric forms by defining a new type of Cheeger's isoperimetric constant. Finally, concentration of measure for the Lp type logarithmic Sobolev inequality is presented.  相似文献

Two families of general affine surface areas are introduced. Basic properties and affine isoperimetric inequalities for these new affine surface areas as well as for L? affine surface areas are established.  相似文献

New sharp Lorentz–Sobolev inequalities are obtained by convexifying level sets in Lorentz integrals via the L p Minkowski problem. New L p isocapacitary and isoperimetric inequalities are proved for Lipschitz star bodies. It is shown that the sharp convex Lorentz–Sobolev inequalities are analytic analogues of isocapacitary and isoperimetric inequalities.  相似文献

Summary We establish some isoperimetric inequalities for the solution of an obstacle problem, when the coincidence set reaches the boundary. Particularly we get an optimal lower bound for the measure of the coincidence set.  相似文献

We prove an isoperimetric inequality for the uniform measure on a uniformly convex body and for a class of uniformly log-concave measures (that we introduce). These inequalities imply (up to universal constants) the log-Sobolev inequalities proved by Bobkov, Ledoux [S.G. Bobkov, M. Ledoux, From Brunn-Minkowski to Brascamp-Lieb and to logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, Geom. Funct. Anal. 10 (5) (2000) 1028-1052] and the isoperimetric inequalities due to Bakry, Ledoux [D. Bakry, M. Ledoux, Lévy-Gromov's isoperimetric inequality for an infinite-dimensional diffusion generator, Invent. Math. 123 (2) (1996) 259-281] and Bobkov, Zegarliński [S.G. Bobkov, B. Zegarliński, Entropy bounds and isoperimetry, Mem. Amer. Math. Soc. 176 (829) (2005), x+69]. We also recover a concentration inequality for uniformly convex bodies, similar to that proved by Gromov, Milman [M. Gromov, V.D. Milman, Generalization of the spherical isoperimetric inequality to uniformly convex Banach spaces, Compos. Math. 62 (3) (1987) 263-282].  相似文献

Given a graph G, the modularity of a partition of the vertex set measures the extent to which edge density is higher within parts than between parts; and the modularity of G is the maximum modularity of a partition. We give an upper bound on the modularity of r-regular graphs as a function of the edge expansion (or isoperimetric number) under the restriction that each part in our partition has a sub-linear numbers of vertices. This leads to results for random r-regular graphs. In particular we show the modularity of a random cubic graph partitioned into sub-linear parts is almost surely in the interval (0.66, 0.88).The modularity of a complete rectangular section of the integer lattice in a fixed dimension was estimated in Guimer et. al. [R. Guimerà, M. Sales-Pardo and L.A. Amaral, Modularity from fluctuations in random graphs and complex networks, Phys. Rev. E 70 (2) (2004) 025101]. We extend this result to any subgraph of such a lattice, and indeed to more general graphs.  相似文献

We investigate the isoperimetric deficit upper bound, that is, the reverse Bonnesen style inequality for the convex domain in a surface $\mathbb{X}_\varepsilon ^2$ of constant curvature ? via the containment measure of a convex domain to contain another convex domain in integral geometry. We obtain some reverse Bonnesen style inequalities that extend the known Bottema’s result in the Euclidean plane $\mathbb{E}^2$ .  相似文献

In this article, we propose the notion of the general p-affine capacity and prove some basic properties for the general p-affine capacity, such as affine invariance and monotonicity. The newly proposed general p-affine capacity is compared with several classical geometric quantities, e.g., the volume, the p-variational capacity, and the p-integral affine surface area. Consequently, several sharp geometric inequalities for the general p-affine capacity are obtained. These inequalities extend and strengthen many well-known (affine) isoperimetric and (affine) isocapacitary inequalities.  相似文献

We study equivalence between the Poincaré inequality and several different relative isoperimetric inequalities on metric measure spaces. We then use these inequalities to establish sufficient conditions for the finite perimeter of sets.  相似文献

Let M be a smooth connected manifold endowed with a smooth measure μ and a smooth locally subelliptic diffusion operator L which is symmetric with respect to μ. We assume that L satisfies a generalized curvature dimension inequality as introduced by Baudoin and Garofalo (2009) [9]. Our goal is to discuss functional inequalities for μ like the Poincaré inequality, the log-Sobolev inequality or the Gaussian logarithmic isoperimetric inequality.  相似文献

We extend to a functional setting the concept of quermassintegrals, well-known within the Minkowski theory of convex bodies. We work in the class of quasi-concave functions defined on the Euclidean space, and with the hierarchy of their subclasses given by α-concave functions. In this setting, we investigate the most relevant features of functional quermassintegrals, and we show they inherit the basic properties of their classical geometric counterpart. As a first main result, we prove a Steiner-type formula which holds true by choosing a suitable functional equivalent of the unit ball. Then we establish concavity inequalities for quermassintegrals and for other general hyperbolic functionals, which generalize the celebrated Prékopa–Leindler and Brascamp–Lieb inequalities. Further issues that we transpose to this functional setting are integral-geometric formulae of Cauchy–Kubota type, valuation property and isoperimetric/Urysohn-like inequalities.  相似文献
